Dissuade game-dating? As if that would stop anyone. Regardless, she laughs along with Lucky and smiles as he introduces himself. "Well, I would hope I'm going on an adventure! That's part of the whole game, isn't it?"
Mom came back into the room, her cheeks stained with just that bit more tears that she had clearly wiped away before she returned. "Oh, goodness I remember when you were just babies! And now my dears are traveling the world." She spoke, a shoebox casually in her hands.
She'd set the box down to hug Lucky as he left, before turning to face Laguna. "Oh, if your father was only here to see you now... He'd be so proud of you." A look of sorrow crossed her face, "And do, please steer clear of quicksand... I couldn't stand to lose you too, I'd-"
"Alright, alright, I get it Mom. I'll be careful." Laguna would stand up, hugging the sad woman herself. Of course, she did suddenly begin to worry. Quicksand wasn't even remotely scary in real life, movies and video games only made it scary... But this was a game. "I'm gonna meet Lucky outside, okay?"
After a flurry of packing away the pie Laguna hadn't eaten into a small tin for the future, tying her own brand new shoes, and being given just a little too much advice about how to survive being swallowed by the earth, she finally made it outside. As Laguna took her first few steps out the door, her steps were clearly unbalanced. Her arms wobbled back and forth a bit as she strode forwards.
"So uh, hey... There isn't like, quicksand everywhere, is there?" Laguna would suddenly ask, seemingly out of nowhere. "Just a thought. But anyway, uh, how long have you been playing? I'm not afraid to admit, I spent like, hours in the character creator." As if her blue hair and elegantly cute outfit didn't attest to that fact already.

"Oh! Uh, hey Luckster!" Laguna would call out as Lucky spoke to her. "Yeah, they said something about... I don't know, Navy Shells protecting eggs? But I, have no idea what they were talking about." She certainly looked a bit sheepish, laughing quietly to herself.
Her eyes scanned the surrounding area, only to see a fight happening just a bit away. Another trainer came up to them. absolutely decked out in Navy Shells gear! It was like he just came out decked in loot! Well, there was at least someone who knew what she was talking about!
And then, Yggy proceeded to confuse her once again. "Uh... Scrolls of Bagugagu? What now? Are people really talking about me? I didn't know there were prophecies in this game! I think you might have me confused with some other girl, though. I'm just trying to help protect these eggs."
She'd finally send out Marina her Popplio, the seal pokemon excitedly looking all around. Before she can even move, Laguna is quick to warn them. "No, you can't use an egg to balance on your nose like a ball! We gotta protect the eggs, not hurt them."
The Popplio seemed offended, rolling its eyes... but it was clearly caught red-handed. Flustered, Marina began to slowly waddle towards the fight with the Oshawott, hoping to help before the fight was over completely.

Laguna visibly jumped as someone else simply appeared nearby and spoke. She had been right after all! This was the tutorial bit! She was quick to sigh, shaking her head with a soft smile. Big Bee was kind of a cute name if she was being honest. "I'm Laguna. Uh, if you mean in the beta, sure. But I've played Pokemon like, dozens of times. I know how this wo-"
And that's when COD13 spoke. What exactly was he, anyway? The mascot? In truth, she probably should have paid more attention to the marketing for the game. Laguna had kind of just jumped into it as soon as she realized it was a full-dive VR, the fact that it was Pokemon only made that a better experience. She willingly walked further into the grass as she was moved along, but she wasn't exactly excited.
"I mean, even if I say no, you're going to show us anyways. So I guess." Laguna shrugged as she spoke to COD13. "I mean, is there anything actually new about it this time?"

Laguna honestly didn't know what she was expecting, but it certainly wasn't a strange man sitting inside of her home. Their home? The game really expected them to just believe this was normal. A very strange turn of events.
"O-oh! Uh, hello!" She called out, an excited grin on her face. "I take it, this is Mom's Hous-"
Before she could even finish her words, the Mother character walked into the room. She seemed so... real. So emotional, so passionate. For the briefest moment, she swore that had to have been a real person. The tears alone broke her heart.
"Oh... Uh, Mom? Don't cry!" She'd fully step into the house. Her every step was a bit wobbly, clearly fighting to keep her balance. Despite her unsure gait, Laguna continued to smile softly all throughout. "It's alright! I'll uh, call? All the time. And come back home whenever I can!"
"Oh, I know, but I'm still going to miss you!" Mother replied, wiping away her tears as the pie was promptly placed down upon the table. "You just sit down dearie! I'll be right back!" And as quickly as she arrived, the woman hustled back through the house. Presumably to grab the same gift she gave every trainer before they start, their own running shoes.
Laguna blinked, completely stunned for a few moments. She'd finally turn to her fellow new player, speaking as she rather unceremoniously flopped into the chair. "Is this, always how it goes? Are we like... siblings? Is that the lore? Also uh, hi! I'm Laguna."

She always expected the pokemon trainer in the video games not wearing shoes to be a bit of a bit. Some kind of funny joke, but it seemed the game had decided to make it a quite literal feature. Laguna had no shoes on. For a girl who had not felt anything with her feet in years, she couldn't have cared less about covering them up.
Until she stepped on a particularly sharp rock and realized just what the realistic pain setting meant.
So here Laguna stood, double-checking her mini-map over and over again as she stared at the house in front of her. Mom's House. It seemed almost bizarre, did every single character have the same mother? What even was Mom like? Did every single player share the same bedroom?
"Well," Laguna spoke up, gently tossing the Pokeball in her hands. "I guess this is just what I gotta do. Tell her I'm going on a Pokemon Adventure, yeah?" The Pokeball didn't respond, considering her Popplio wasn't out of her ball. It simply felt better talking to it than to no one.
Waddling up to the door, her legs still oddly stiff, the girl raised a hand as if to knock on the door, only to realize just how weird it would be to knock on your own home. Laughing quietly to herself, she finally opened the door and pushed inside.
"Uh, hello?" She spoke, sticking her head into the house. "Anyone home? M-mom?"

Well now this was a peculiar experience as any.
The Navy Shells. She had, at first, expected navy-colored shells. But no, they were supposed to be soldiers. Were the eggs supposed to be the soldiers? Were the trainers supposed to be the soldier protecting the eggs? Could eggs protect eggs? A knife strapped to an egg wouldn't exactly help matters much.
Did it?
She didn't quite feel like a badass soldier, if they were supposed to be the Navy Shell, not with only one Pokeball strapped to her waist, but there was no shame in pretending you were something you were not. Not in a video game, anyways.
With a laugh, Laguna held her Popplio's Pokeball in her hand as she began to carefully move through the underbrush. "Alright, lil' eggies," Laguna spoke, eyes scanning the area for any wayward eggs or other trainers that might have also come out to assist.
"Where are you guys hiding, huh?" She mumbled quietly to herself, still quite confused. "Hey does uh, anyone know what the Navy Shells look like? Are we sure they aren't Navy colored? Actually, scratch that, are we the Navy Shells? I don't think I actually know what's going on right now. The tutorial didn't prepare me for this."

Tall Grass.
She stared at it in the distance, the sight being quite obvious. Was this area truly designed with the intent to teach new players about how to catch pokemon? It seemed almost bizarre. There was no one around.
And yet, she knew that if she stepped out into the grass someone would appear out of nowhere. That was the trope that happened in the older games, right? Someone coming out of literally nowhere to teach her how to catch pokemon for the 15th time in the past 4 years.
She suddenly began to doubt her own eyes, scanning the area around her. "Uh, hello?" Laguna spoke out to nobody in particular as if that would somehow solve her budding questions. "Someone's around here, right? You know, you don't have to do this, whoever you are! I know how this works by now!"

Popplio.
For some reason, she didn't quite expect it. She knew about pokemon and had even played a few of the games in the past, but Popplio had never quite stood out to her.
Even still, the young woman looked at the Pokeball in her hands with a soft smile on her face. Even if she had a preference at this point, it was long forgotten. It was different, getting a pokemon on a small handheld device versus in person.
It was so much more real. Like the start of a new adventure. In a sense, she supposed that was the atmosphere they were wanting. She smiles widely to herself, ever so slowly moving to attempt to stand up. Using the professor's desk as support, Laguna finally stood up to her feet on her own.
After taking a single step just to prove to herself that she could do it, the young woman immediately flung her arms around the professor in a hug, her excitement, and joy over this brand new leash on life overtaking her.
"T-thank you!" Laguna spoke, moving to run out of the build as fast as her waddling legs could carry her. Like a clumsy penguin, or someone who couldn't quite fully bend her knees. "I promise, I'll do all the research help you could ever need! Just call me! I- well, I presume you have my number!"
And with that, the young woman took her first steps out into the world.
A world of adventures and dreams in the world of Pokemon awaits!
Let's go!

Laguna had the impression that the Professor was probably used to this by now. With her comments about technology, perhaps even she already knew the truth? That this was a game? It made sense that if anyone, the tutorial NPC would recognize stuff. Even still, despite her curiosity, she was much too focused on her legs.
Her hands gently began to massage them, almost as if she needed to return blood flow, despite them being perfectly normal and capable. It was almost like she was a mermaid and just gained legs for the first time, incredibly clumsy with them.
To be fair, thinking of herself like a mermaid was a much better mental image than the reality. Much more preferred.
At the questions, Laguna's head began to tilt as she mentally debated. The threat question made sense for choosing a pokemon, but the others seemed completely out of the left field. She couldn't help but laugh, a high-pitched giggle as she continued to rub at her legs, slowly bending her knees back and forth as it became easier with time.
"Uh, well! As it stands, depending on the threat, I'd try and outsmart it! If it's like a wild pokemon, hiding from it and striking as soon as it has an opening is good! Of course, if it's not something I can fight, and just like some angry man, I suppose I'd try and calm him down... and if I can't- actually, yeah no that probably suffices." Laguna chuckles quietly, shaking her head.
"My fridge, umm, has a lot of juice! Apple, grape, orange, uh, even cranberry... There's a lot of juice." Come to think of it, she could use some juice herself now. Actually, how would she even know if she was hungry or tired? Would her in-game body and real body get hungry and tired at the same time to prevent getting hurt? It made logical sense.
The last question was the one that caused her to fumble the most. Before, she might have attempted to do some actual flirting. Maybe make a few smooth comments, and see if they picked up the hint. But now...
Laguna looked over to the side, humming to herself. Even with this new beautiful body, that kind of confidence probably didn't exist anymore. After a few moments of thinking it over, she finally spoke. "I think, I'd make them something. I'd probably draw them some art, maybe of their pokemon or them, or something they really liked. A-after befriending them first, of course! Just, giving a cute stranger a drawing of them without asking would be creepy!"

To say that there was a sense of vertigo would be underselling the whole situation.
Abby, or perhaps she should start referring to herself as Laguna now, was currently struggling to even keep her balance. As she spawned into the world. She hadn't been able to stand unaided in such a long time that her brain genuinely freaked out for a moment, these new sensations almost overwhelming for a brief moment.
"Ah, just uh-" Was all she managed to get out before suddenly falling down onto her butt with a solid thump. Now she knew what all those health and safety papers she had thrown away were all about. This all felt so real! She couldn't even feel her real body at the moment. In fact-
"My, my legs..." Laguna spoke in a dumbfounded manner, completely confused as she wiggled her toes. She could feel them, actually move them. Of course, she had been hoping, it was the sole reason she got this whole setup, but experiencing it was another thing entirely. It was going to take some getting used to, but she couldn't help but giggle excitedly to herself.
Grinning, Laguna quickly wrapped her arms around her knees and pulled them close to her chest. Casually wiggling her toes, working parts of the mind that hadn't seen use in forever. Her eyes looked up at the woman before her, who had just spoken about getting her pokemon starter and she was once again dumbfounded. Was this truly just a computer? It sounded so much more real than that.
"Umm, Sorry, Professor, was it? That's usually how this goes, yeah? I'm just so used to... a wheelchair, yeah. I guess I've healed?" She shrugged, it seemed logical enough. Did the NPCs even care if you mentioned real-world stuff? Would they think you insane? She had no idea. Just even saying that however, revealed the truth to her. Nobody here had to know, and perhaps nobody else would know. She'd figure this all out in no time! "The uh, wonders of Pokemon medicine! Yeah, let's go with that. I'm ready for my quiz!"
"Just, uh," She'd slowly wiggle her legs on the floor, hands slowly rubbing up and down the skin on her leg, amazed with the new sensations. "Please don't mind if I'm on the floor, I'm... still relearning to walk, yeah. That one. That's the thing." Flawless execution, nothing weird about that surely.

PLAYER: Abigaelle Gauthier | CHARACTER: Laguna | | | PRONOUNS: She/Her AGE: 23 ORIENTATION: Pansexual LOCATION: Quebec, Canada OCCUPATION: Freelance Artist | GENDER: Female AGE: Adult ENABLE PKMN SPEECH? Yes PAIN THRESHOLD: Realistic TRAINER CLASS: Swimmer |
OUT OF THE GAME Abigaelle was paralyzed from the waist down during a horrific car accident on her 18th birthday. Celebrating her new adulthood, she and her friends had gone out on the town to go shopping and simply party like irresponsible high school girls do. A drunk driver had slammed into the side of the car she was sitting in, swerving around a corner late at night.
The next thing Abigaelle knew, she was waking up in a hospital bed. Time seemed to pass like a blur, the fear and the panic all completely undermined by an ever-present numb feeling, inside and out. She barely remembers those first few days, looking back upon them as if viewing photos from someone who wasn't there. Completely disconnected from her own life. She could no longer walk, and her life of excitement and plans to travel the world were completely neutered.
Her friends, feeling guilty beyond measure at her accident, at first did everything they could to try and support her. Eventually, the guilt became too much, however, and they slowly stopped showing up. They were all fine, healthy, the survivor's guilt tore the friend group apart. Leaving Abigaelle more and more alone as time passed, having no one her age to rely on.
Her single mother tried her best to support her daughter, but Abigaelle had already made up her mind. Her pride was simply too great to rely on someone else's help for daily living, she couldn't stand the humiliation. And so she moved into her own apartment, using her growing art skills to supplement her income along with regular disability checks to help keep her afloat.
As soon as the news of the beta branch of UNOVR was said to be available in America, Abigaelle wasted no time in getting it set up with a proxy. She had always loved video games, but this time the sheer concept of feeling her legs again was all it took to convince her.
| INSIDE THE GAME Laguna is everything that Abigaelle used to be and more. Confident and excitable, Laguna is free to explore the world at her own pace, and she fully plans to see every single square inch of this virtual world. Able to not only walk but actually feel through her virtual legs, she can often be found doing the most random of things, embracing the chaos of this new virtual world.
While consciously she knows it is all just a game, it is very easy for her to simply get so lost in it all, treating NPCs as normal people, trying to make casual small talk and get to know everyone as well as she can. Pokemon too, she just can't help but want to spoil them. While she didn't originally have any desire to battle regularly, she always finds herself lost in the strategy of it all regardless, enjoying it like just another puzzle to be solved.
With this world being so much more fun and enjoyable then the real world, Laguna is found online at almost all hours at random times of day or night. Only truly leaving when she has to. | FACE CLAIMS Josee from Josee, the Tiger and the Fish. Sailor Mercury from Sailor Moon
