Aero froze at her words Yggy Br00ks said. Half-siblings, she never thought of using that plot device as an excuse for why she shared the same house as the other players. Then again, she was still learning the ropes, both in gameplay and lore, so she shrugged it off as a handwaving plot. "That makes sense, I think?" Aero said as she slowly entered the house. "And yeah, I'm new in this game. Played for about 2 weeks or so, I guess. Well, not so much because the game was suddenly on maintenance while I'm playing for some reason." Her eyes widened to see the mentioned basement behind the other players. "Well, I didn't know about it until now! Where did it come from?!"As she entered the basement along with the other players (or rather, her half-siblings), she was amazed to see near-infinite amounts of shoeboxes on the shelves. Were these boxes containing shoes for new players like her before? Just like Yggy said, she would feel bad if they break into their mother's vault. "If we're splitting up, I'll take the group going into the creepy hole! It won't be fun if we do the door!"

Steeling themselves to the worst that was to come, the nervous members of our party braved into the curling mists of the cave. It was thankfully an effort devoid of wall-bumping, for the mist seemed to part respectfully around wherever the players stepped. The closest one got to an incident was a time where Jinx almost stubbed her toe (and head, due to her height) onto the side of a hastily-placed makeshift table that they couldn't quite see the contents of. A paper was visible, at least, and someone daring decided to pick it up and look closely at the contents within... 'How terrible! As soon as my baby children had gone on their first adventure, an earthquake had struck our poor little town. I didn't want to tell them... I don't want to make them worry. Still, I'll need to deal with the consequences. My basement is in total disrepair!
Goodness. I'll need to get into contact with Redead's father for a hand to help with the repairs. He always knows what to do in a time like this...' For fear of seeing something mushy further within the letter, the poor reader decides to put the paper down. There was something more distracting that had just come to light, quite literally as a fact. As the players had descended further into the cave, a guiding light had begun to shine at what all could only assume to be the other end. Despite themselves, despite caution, a growing curiosity drove all further towards that very light. Before any could realize it, the hands of everyone involved had already reached out to that light. By the time it made contact with the source, one could see what it was. A glimmering stone of blue, sitting perfectly beneath the starlight of a tiny hole in the ceiling above. The altar it sat upon was covered in rubble, as if it had been placed on solid rock which had carefully crumbled away until something representing a pedestal remained. A gentle light radiated from within it, one that playfully washed over each fingertip that rest upon it. Ah, that was right--You had placed your hands upon it in some curiosity. What had overcome you? You have picked up Impulse. It will be added to your inventory-- You had time to read no more. At this time, a great light of the same color as the stone itself had filled the room. As if lightning had struck dead in the center of the room, hearing had become meaningless-and soon after, so too did sight. Even thought faded away as your body registered an impact onto the wall. Some time afterwards, your eyes began to open once more. The mist had cleared, leaving an empty room inside of what all had thought to be a cave in the mist. It appeared now to be a ruined circular room, the chipped walls adorned with boxes full of countless shoes. A glance to the road behind confirmed a suspicion that came with creeping dread--The way back had been sealed off, rubble having formed a wall that prevented passage. The only way now was forward. The altar in the middle lie devoid of the shard it had held, and the players could see that they were alone... or so they thought. These shoe boxes, as one, began to rattle as the players stirred. The crystal-clear lightning of the shard darted from box to box, empty shell to empty shell as if moving with purpose. Each box that was struck burst free from the wall, hazardously falling to the ground one after another. At about this time, the chaos faded along with the horrible rattling. For a single moment were the players granted the respite of blessed silence in which they could stare at the innocent pair of shoes, waiting for something to happen. The shoes stared back. They were waiting, listening... Listening to you.
When making a post, roll the following, removing the *s: [*roll range="*1-100"] Afterwards, add +2 to the result of your roll. The resulting number of shoes (including your two own) shall become your thralls, following every order you give them. When you move, unless specified otherwise, the shoes will follow you in an orderly pack. By some notion, the shoes seem to understand how many and which ones among the horde you wish to follow a spoken direction. As your shoes, too, have come to life, you can no longer run. You must walk carefully, as the ruined floor of the post-earthquake vault will tear into your feet with sharp and pointed stones otherwise. You cannot put your shoes back on, for the ethereal eyes which innocently stare at you from within block the entrance through which your feet should otherwise go. Your enthralled horde of shoes are considered to be Normal-typed. At the end of the altar room, you find a path that leads forwards. You have a choice of one direction:
The way forward: A twisting hallway of stone and ruined walls appear to be the only way forward. Whatever lie beyond, you will have to face together.

Yggy read the scrap of paper out loud, making sure to use her best Mom Voice in an attempt to break any tension that the foggy journey might have brought the rest of them. As resident class clown, it was Kenny's job to make sure everyone had fun, even if they were having fun at Yggy's expense.
"Who's Redhead? I mean, @redead," she was saying, then "Do you guys think this is like, our origin story or something?"
A blue light from deep in the fog had appeared. Maybe it was just her imagination, but it seemed to be calling her. "...Yeah," the blonde answered her own question, feeling absentminded. Her shoes turned and she continued down the misty tunnel, questing for the source of the color. "Do you guys see that big... thingy?"
She reached out a hand. Something brushed her back and Yggy realized with a chill that all of them were reaching out, hands drawn towards the crystalline form like moths to a flame.
A shiver ran down her back as the thought Am I in danger? suddenly occurred to her, then the room was filled with BLUE. Some time later, she regained her senses. What just happened? Everything was a slowed-down blur. "Holy crap. Are you guys okay?" the tomboy managed to ask, crawling over to Aero and Jinx. The younger girls reminded Kenny of his little sister, and Yggy tried to feel them over, still half-blinded, making sure there were no broken bones. "Nobody's playing on Realistic, right?"
The light was gone. Only the name - impulse - remained in her recent notifications.
The sound of footfalls came next. "Maybe... Mom sent a rescue team?" Yggy faltered, eyes glued to the wall of rock and rubble cutting off their escape. I don't get it. The earthquake was in the past, right? So how could it have happened just now? Was the paper about the future, instead?
Yggy let out a yelp as her Running Shoes flopped off her feet. "Hey, come back!" she made a grab for them but they skittered free, laces dragging on the ground. One of them turned to look at her and Yggy found herself staring at a single star-blue eye, which gazed speechlessly at her. "Holy crap." Her heart jumped in her chest and Yggy scrambled backwards, grabbing for the nearest person. "My shoes have eyes!"
And not just hers.
Flopping, dragging, and rolling, an enthralled army of Running Shoes was coming to greet them.

But like life, the dungeon went on. Yggy couldn't stop to panic over every little drop of spilled milk and every little animated sneaker. Trying to lighten the mood, Yggy stood up, looking over the eight-and-a-half pairs of shoes in rapt attendance. "C'mon, guys, I think they're friendly!" d100+2

Out of all the trainers in the group, Aero was not nervous upon stepping into the strange hole. Rather, she was excited at the prospect of the unknown ahead even if it was found under their "mother's" basement. As they stepped in, Aero noticed a paper on the table and picked it up to read its contents. "Probably," Aero answered Yggy Br00ks . "I mean, there should be a reason there is a hole in Mom's...basement..."She looked up and like everyone in the tunnel, she gasped to see a bluish glow ahead. Being too curious for her own good, she went deeper into the tunnel with the others and gasped to see some kind of a large blue crystal sitting above the ceiling. For some reason, it released several orbs of light of the same color and one of them dropped onto Aero's hand. "Wow, pretty~ They are like snowing lights," she said before she noticed a notification pop up in front of her. You have picked up IMPULSE. It will be added to your inventory-- "Weird. What does IMPULSE mea-" Before she could finish, the room around her turned BLUE...
And all of the sudden, she found herself getting up from the floor, groaning as she heard Yggy's voice. "I'm okay!" She waved to the tomboy. But as soon as she got up to her feet, she noticed something odd to her feet. Aero looked down and her eyes widened to see that her loafers were gone. There was nothing but her long socks. "What the heck?! Where are my shoes?! Those are my favs!" She looked around and gasped to see her shoes suddenly flop about on their own. What was even more shocking was both of them have blue eyes, the very same color that was rained on the group earlier. "No way! Did they suddenly turn into Pokemon? I don't hear a shoe Pokemon in other games!"Just as she could panic, she looked from behind and gasped at what she saw. HVkyQC|F1-100 To her shock, there were other shoes that came alive and for some reason, they lined up like Falinks right behind Aero. To her eyes, they looked...kinda cute. She even tried to walk like a Piplup to see their reaction, forgetting about what happened to her shoes. [OOC: Because I forgot to add my roll, the current total is 19. Sorry about that!] 1-100

Big Bee rubbed his eyes, sitting up and feeling like he'd just been sucker-kicked in the back of the head. "What the...what the heel happened?" He prodded at a particularly tender spot on his bare foot. Maybe he'd stepped on a rock or a piece of broken glass, or...wait. Why were his feet bare?
Ht39kQ881d100+2
As he pulled himself gingerly to his feet he noticed the swarm of blue stars surrounding him. Each of the glittering lights was lodged inside of a shoe. Dozens of unblinking blue eyes that orbited him like a little cons-toe-lation. "Are you guys seeing this?" he asked, possibly the least useful thing to ask in a video game. At the very least Yggy Br00ks and Aero were dealing with their own swarm of shoes. "Why...why are they alive? And better yet, do we get to keep them?" Big Bee asked, picking up a thick-soled boot and cuddling it close while it tried to wriggle free from his grip. "This is great! It's just like that movie! 101 Doc Martens!"
Unfortunately, Big Bee didn't have time to elaborate, as the shoe he'd been holding managed to get free of his grip. It tromped off down the corridor with it's dozens of sliplings, and he followed in its wake.
But as the group made their way down the single path available to them, Big Bee pondered on the nature of innanimate objects. Were these shoes living creatures now? Were they Pokemon? More importantly...did they have soles?
And had they eaten his goddamn socks? 1d100+2

Orion winced in pain as he rubbed his eyes, trying desperately to sooth his injured irises. He hadn't been expecting the dark, dank, and dim dungeon they were in to go critical mass akin to the fucking Demon Core. The air seemed slightly charged, like some sort of energy had been unleashed into the musty tomb of timbs. "God fuck." The fighter managed to sputter, sight still speckled with spots. "I hope that didn't just give me like, E-Cancer or something." As his vision did return to him, so did his seeming sense of dread. What had just happened? What the fuck was an impulse? Was that-
Where those moving shoes?
He watched with a sense of wonder as a small army of boots began to gather at their heels, like leathery little pikmin ready to tussle with whatever was in this tomb. It was only until he noticed that his Bro Bee was barefoot, or that the Yggsters grippers were out that he even considered that someone had swiped his own kicks. His gaze dropped down to his own bare feet, eyes narrowing as the revelation hit him.
Was this a weird fetish thing? Was someone at Hydance really into Feet? This would make its way to a tweet when he was done, maybe that spokesperson dude would know. What was his name? Bryan? He seemed like a homie you could get a drink with, and at the very least he posted dank memes.
A rather loud CLANK drew Orion back to reality, and the light crackle of flame tickled his ears. Turning around, Orion found his own mini army of boots gathering around him, leading the pack however, were three pairs of shoes. A man ready for any occasion, Orion had gathered the standard running kicks from mom during the post C0D13 ass kicking BBQ, a nice well worn pair of black Air Force Ones. To their left, clanking and clamoring, were a fuck off pair of steel boots that were also magnetic, something he'd earned as a reward for goomba-stomping some bugs in a weird and hellish mining quest. To the right, the Trailblazer kicks he'd gotten for helping moltres reclaim the Birchwild from corruption sizzled with anticipation, eager to get the led out.
"This is some weird specific fetish thing, I'm positive. Whoever let this through QA needs to be sat down..." Orion muttered under his breath. "Anyways, looks like the shoe is starting to drop, I get the feeling this is the start of some sort of...puzzle. Let's see where these pumped up kicks are taking us, eh?"

Vanta's refusal to wear shoes seemed justified the moment they all came alive. He gripped the lamp post a smidge tighter, as if the prospect of blunt force trauma was sufficient to ward off any spectacularly suspicious sneakers.
gQR0|fZC1-100 + 0 = 33
Unfortunately, footwear didn't have the capacity for rational thought. A veritable horde of the hightops seemed determined to follow his every movement.
It was hard to tell if Bulba Fett was laughing or not, but ones that got too close were thankfully nudged back by his vine whips.
"Why the fuck would someone ever program this?!" there was such force behind the whisper that it easily carried throughout the room. He pushed his bandana a little further up to wipe at a bead of sweat that wasn't there. Did Mom have some kind of fetish he didn't want to know about?
A stray converse mistakenly approached him from behind. The resulting screech was high enough to peak the audio of anyone within the room. He swung his makeshift weapon like a bat, and the shoe was sent flying with enough force to wobble a nearby shelf.
After a moment of silence, he'd nod frantically in response to Orion's proposal. "Y-yeah, lets, um. Not deal with this any longer than we gotta."

Jinx had been barefoot from the outset, not as any sort of bold statement on the matter but just because she hadn't bothered doing the running shoes tutorial yet (or... any tutorial, for that matter, whoops), and she hadn't gotten any neat shoes as loot from any dungeon or quest or whatnot yet, either. It was kind of nice being able to feel the ground beneath her feet, though, in a setting that meant that she wasn't likely to get impaled by stray shards of glass or rusty nails, and any such injury that did happen would likely be solved simply by logging out for a bit.
Jinx wasn't sure yet if it was a good thing or a bad thing that the throng of shoes that had decided to follow her around now therefore didn't include shoes that she had previously been wearing... but it was definitely some kind of thing, that was for sure...
"Yeah, this is a weird place for sure, but then what else could we expect, given how it all started?" Jinx's mind didn't turn to fetishes; it was possible, sure, but she knew well enough that sometimes video game designers, or other creatives, just threw in weird shit for the sake of weird shit, and that was how this felt to her. Just somebody spitballing a realm based on "shoes" as the opening prompt. "But uh, still no need to dilly-dally. I'm ready to get on with things myself."
