Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

Having been unlocked early (before Area 2, in fact!), Area 3 will play a little differently than UNOVR's standard gameplay cycle. Unlike Asper, players did not come to Ostellia to explore, colonize, and catch Pokemon: they came here with the express intent of finding a new way to cleanse Corruption. Until this objective is met, the following options will not be available in Ostellia: Wild Pokemon or Fishing Spawns* Settlement Development Bethany's Trade Shop Players may still encounter "invasive" spawns (see below) While these particular options may not be available to you until after the World Event, you are still welcome to make your own threads exploring, creating your own narratives, and catching "invasive" species! Our intent is definitely* not to discourage solo or freeform play, just to make gameplay match player intent. What are they? That's for you to find out! ⚠️IMPORTANT: Invasive Species do not communicate using any known form of language, including PokeSpeech. By default, they cannot read, write, speak, or understand human speech. You will have to learn how to communicate with one another over time if you wish to learn more about them! There is no limit or special requirement for catching invasive species. You may catch as few or as many as you wish. However, invasive species are very dangerous and unpredictable in the wild. It is recommended to take on an invasive spawn with 2 or more players, and to increase your Tall Grass HP to the new maximum of 300. Additionally, Invasive Species should not be taken out of Ostellia. Trying to do so will cause them to behave extremely erratically, making them dysfunctional for the purposes of battle or companionship. You are welcome to roleplay this phenomenon. Invasive Species have a unique Rarity of -5 (Invasive), which can be raised via Pokemon Refresh. Ostellia Quests To progress the story, trigger the World Event, and unlock the options above, players must complete a series of prompt-based quests in Area 3. During your time exploring Ostellia, you find a rusted key linked to this quest in ROUTE 7: DROWNED HARBOR. Notably, this quest only activates at night. As you walk to the end of the pier, you find a small rowboat chained and padlocked to the dock. The key you found matches perfectly. When at least one other player with the same quest has arrived, a location marker for dragon's den will appear on the map somewhere out to sea beyond the harbor. Make your way to the location, bearing witness to the following: One or more 'invasive' species carrying lights across the sea A new constellation shaped like a spiral The massive whirlpool marked 'Dragon's Den' You may request a spawn if desired, or just NPC your own! You may encounter NPCs, invasive species, or other challenges along the way (such as the boat leaking, threats in the water, etc). If you end up going down the Dragon's Den, your character will either black out and wake up back in the boat close to shore or white out and re-spawn at the Thunderfall Shrine (Everworld optional). It may be tempting to think there's nothing worth exploring on the flooded ROUTE 7: DROWNED HARBOR. The secret is below the surface, as any players who equip the SWIMMER subclass (even temporarily) will find out. The waters are choked with the wrecks of sunken ships, tower cranes, old power lines, but in the depths beneath all that is something fascinating: an endless expanse of rusted doors inlaid into the concrete sea floor, each different from the last. Should you manage to unseal any of these doors, you will find a portal to an identical door somewhere else in the world. Curious indeed! When at least one other player with the ~~Swimmer~~ subclass has arrived, the following will appear in your character's UI: Complete the following objectives: Find a path through the doortals to Area 1: Asper Find a path through the doortals to Area 2: Mistra Visit an alien world and return safely You may request a spawn if desired, or just NPC your own! You may encounter NPCs, invasive species, or other challenges along the way (such as Corrupted threats in Mistra, unstable architecture underwater, etc). Remember, you must have the ~~Swimmer~~ subclass currently equipped to take this quest, as it will allow you to communicate normally underwater with your partner and remove the need for air. Players have to wake up early to catch this unique phenomenon. Those online between the hours of 3:00-5:00 AM will receive a special quest marker summoning them to the edge of ROUTE 9: DUNE DISTRICT. From here, you can witness a Night Parade of invasive species filtering out of the Nexus and towards the desert. The procession moves in single file and is non-hostile— some walk, some float, and some even dance their way through the dunes. Each one is carrying water, vegetation, or even small Corrupted Pokemon, and will travel non-stop until dawn. The question is: where are they going? When at least one other player has arrived at your location, the Night Parade will begin. Complete the following story beats: Join in with the Night Parade until they reach their destination, the Broken Sundial (pictured above) Witness a meteor shower, some of which land explosively in the dunes Be blinded momentarily by the rising sun, after which the Night Parade vanishes. You may request a spawn if desired, or just NPC your own! You may encounter music, hallucinatory effects, or strange compulsions along the way. Interfering too much with the Night Parade (disrupting its progress, attacking it, etc) will cause it to disappear early, resulting in a quest failure. You may try again the next day. Players who still have Dr. Bunya's corruption tracker will begin to pick up readings the farther north across ROUTE 9: DUNE DISTRICT they go, until the sand itself is stained black. You find yourself at the edge of a new Corruption Zone, blocking progress into the mysterious Area to the north. Fortunately, this place seems to be a sort of 'gray zone' between the two. Blanketed by the desert, you find a defunct amusement park, its Ferris Wheel toppled, its equipment mostly-buried. When at least one other player has arrived at the Amusement Park, the quest will trigger. A seemingly endless sprawl of reclaimed city holds secrets in its underbelly. Players exploring Route 8: Forgotten Nexus may discover a secret keycard along the way. Once you have the keycard in hand, you will receive an alert for a new quest at a location near the Thunderfall Shrine. A slippery abyss of rusted beams and girders can be crossed to reach the Abandoned Laboratory, where you find yourself facing a locked, stainless steel door. When at least one other player has joined you, the following objectives will appear in your UI: Complete the following objectives: Find a way to get the power running Clean up the lab with the aim of possible future use Locate 3/3 Diary Entries SPOILER: Click to show {DIARY ENTRY} 20:00 11-11-XXXX The situation has escalated. I received word the Pokemon League was destroyed at 18:00 last night, for reasons you probably know as well as I do. Our sister lab was vaporized, as were most of my colleagues. Unfortunately, there is no time to grieve. My work on the extradimensional portals has been coming along well, but I never expected we'd need it so soon, or in such dire circumstances. The public is being told it was a freak terrorist act, but that story won't hold up long when it crosses the ocean and they get a good look at it.
