argent was tired. He sat at the shrine- quiet, since everyone was off fucking around at the new update whatever-
And, for once, he wasnât there. He wasnât the guy on the bleeding edge, snapping up the best gear and obliterating the competition. He just- He felt tired. This game felt⌠different. Angel was different.
Maybe he was different.
He didnât know what he expected to happen, at the tree. Like Lizard suddenly manifesting like, âOkay! Iâm here! Iâm all better now! Letâs go fucking dunk!â
But nothing happened. Just the rustle of wind through wilting leaves, and silence. Heavy, expectant silence.

Asper's ASCENDED MOLTRES was roosting atop the tree comprising the MOONLIGHT SHRINE. With the PokĂŠmon Center busy and Josh headed away from the Surge Steppes, the shrine here was the most convenient one for him to visit. He took a glance upward, beholding the legendary creature's rainbow-colored wings. What an incredible steed such a creature would make. Of course, he couldn't imagine being able to bring one into his party until he reached endgame content. He was still in early game hell, even the most common encounters bringing his party to their knees.
Taking a knee much like he would at church, the wannabe knight genuflected before the Shrine's altar and touched it. His peripheral vision would catch the life and tech bars of his PokĂŠmon filling up, completely healing them and making them ready for battle again.

After catching that Phantump, KFC was a bit roughed up. Well, technically both of his Pokemon were pretty worn. "Might as well take a pit stop here while I'm in the area." He muttered to himself as he stared at the quiet shrine. Walking towards the tree, he pressed his hand against the smooth bark as he felt.... nothing. Huh, well that was anticlimactic. Still... Eyeing the roosting Moltres he frowned, wishing he could catch it himself. Shaking his head he realized he needed to stay focused. Heal his Pokemon and then worry about legendaries when he's a bit stronger... "Heal up, we got work to do."

Alicia offered a soft sigh, having to take a break from her search. But at the very least, there was a shrine close by. And one she hadn't visited yet.
She had to admit, the great bird roosting above was an impressive sight. The colored accents on her wings lent an ambiance to the first phoenix of the PokĂŠmon World that the usual design just... didn't have.
Still, she was here for a reason, and reached her hand out to get her team topped up.

He belatedly realizedâthat visiting this shrine was actually one of the mini âobjectivesâ he had planned, and so coming by here was a good thing, after all.
âCanât fault you for coming out here,â the Grookey would drawl, and he would cringe for a few moments.
âMust you really be so harsh on me?â
âWeâre stuck with each other!â
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his noseâŚ
[tangent=âOh, balls,â]âChe palle,â[/tangent] he would grumble quietly as he came to a stop in front of the quiet little shrine, reaching out a hand to touch the smooth surface.
lucky the shrine is nearby!

The good thing about coming out to the Noonlight Shrine was that it wasnât too far away from where the Grookey was waiting for him to return; beady eyes affixed on the Vulpix since they had been expressly forbidden from fighting the thingâ
âAlright, alright, Iâm coming, give me a few minutes,â he would say to nobody in particular as he swore under his breath and touched the shrineâs structure with one of his hands.
(And no, he wasnât going to subject his other PokĂŠmon to the Vulpixânot yet, at least.)
time to throw hands again!

This time heâd put the Murkrow on guard duty alongside the Grookey; before making a mad dash towards the Noonlight Shrine once more.
For a few moments, he thought he saw somethingâlarge, roosting up in the higher branches⌠wait.
Wait a second, wasnât thatâŚ?!
His trembling hand would touch the shrineâs surface once more as he ruminated if that was the darker version of the Moltres he was familiar with back home; or if this was the earlier version of thatâŚ
ruminating on the rumored Moltres high up in the tree branches.

Had Don been a man with a shred more common sense or the slightest experience with video games, he might have noticed that no one else around the shrine seemed as panicked as he was. Instead he rushed up, an exhausted Wilson in his arms with his health bar blinking an empty red.
Don had had to read so many pages of the guide to figure out where he was supposed to go to heal his Pokemon. The adrenaline racing through him certainly hadn't helped. If he'd been a bit more coolheaded, he might have noticed the handy search function or remembered how to mark a waypoint on his minimap.
So it had taken far longer than he liked, but he was here. As he approached the shrine, he saw a mass of technicolor light high in the glowing tree. He had neither the time nor the inclination to wonder what it might be. Instead he pressed himself as close to the base of the shrine as he was allowed, only sighing in relief when Wilson's health bar filled back up.

Subsequent visits to the shrines would (hopefully) be far less panicked than his first. He was glad that it was often populated, with people relaxing and healing their own teams. He felt less like a failure. Get knocked down nine times, get up ten, after all. He took the time to re-center himself, take a deep breath, and prepare to leap back into the fray. It was at once exhilarating and frustrating. He felt like a total newbieâwhich, to be fair, he was. But for so much of his life he'd stuck with the things he knew and already knew he was good at. It had been years since he'd stepped so far outside his comfort zone. It was refreshing.
He watched his teams hit points slowly fill back up until the bars were entirely green again. "Back at it," he said, a grin tugging at his lips.

He remembered the dark-bodied Moltres that was the symbol of the rebellion back home; certainly the one high up in the trees didnât look like that!
A variant, maybe? (Or was that the original?)
Either way, he was more than a little overdue for another quick return here; and so he was accompanied by the Grookey (as the Murkrow was holding the line) before he looked up into the canopy far above him.
âI wonder.â
here and back again

While the latest trek to find a second Vulpix had ended in failure, he would still need another trip to this particular shrine; and he would look skywards to the supposed âprotectorâ that called this particularly gigantic tree âhomeâ.
âYou know, I wonder how theyâre holding out there right now. Your⌠your European counterpart,â he would quietly mutter to himself as he touched the tree bark and felt the energy humming through him.
âBut then again, who knows what theyâre all up to these days. Being delusional in that eternal court I think. Thatâs most of them, anyway.â
another introspective trip

Shalin had a lot of offensive-minded PokĂŠmon, but she needed a healer. Badly. The Ponyta she had caught with her racing-crazed acquaintance would do nicely... with a small makeover. After doing a little legwork, she knew where she could get that makeover done: the MOONLIGHT SHRINE.
As Shalin and Reynir stood in the shrine's light, the girl pressing her hand against the tree's trunk, she felt a warm presence: that of a MOLTRES. The legendary PokĂŠmon's multicolored light shone down upon the Ponyta, causing her to glow purples and pinks. The girl gasped when she saw his silhouette change form, the light eventually getting so bright that her entire field of vision faded.
Before her was a Galarian Ponyta, who promptly touched Shalin with the flat of his horn. Positive energy flowed through the glitch hunter, working together with the shrine's healing energy to completely restore her and her team. "The transformation cutscene is really detailed," she said to herself, peering up at the Moltres and waving at it before she headed back to town.
Transforming Reynir the Ponyta into a Galarian Ponyta!

He didnât realize that heâd be making a return trip to the Noonlight Shrine so soonâhowever that stupid-ass Jigglypuff wrecked him good while heâd brought Shalin Nariya out of its singing voice range and to safety.
He knew that his Murkrow was one tough cookie, and would definitely continue fighting while he came out to this shrine here in the grove; looking up the tree and wondering if the Moltres was hiding somewhere in the massive canopy.
Someday⌠he thought as he touched the tree.
Someday Iâll get that Vulpix. Please let it be today!
praying for good luck in this hunt!

Xira's wings roared like an engine as the duo raced toward Noonlight Shrine, the ASCENDED MOLTRES' giant eyes opening to answer Josh's prayers once he was within the shrine's primary zone. The area transitions felt a bit laggier than normal. Perhaps it was because Josh was in a hurry?
His thighs were happy once they had landed. While it was convenient being able to at last fly, a Yanmega's vibrations were hair-raising, his exposed skin covered in goose bumps. Not only did she sound like an engine, she felt like one, too. The giant dragonfly let Josh dismount right in front of the shrine's monument, just outside its reach. Once he slid off, he rest both his hands against the sacred structure, feeling the MOLTRES' sacred warmth...

The trek to the Noonlight Shrine was silent. The Life Dew that Josh's Dewgong granted them was enough to get Gou up on his own feet and moving, and he insisted he wanted to walk on his own rather than be carried or returned to his Poke Ball. Arthur wondered if his Pokemon's pride was hurt in that battle. It was technically his first actual battle, though it was against a Wild Pokemon, and they were thoroughly thrashed. What more of it was a fight between a trainer where he couldn't just run? (Or maybe he could? The game didn't seem like it was going to prevent him from being a coward. He could've ran away from the Vulpix, but he didn't, because he thought they could handle it, even if things felt off. And this time, they were lucky.
The little dot on the mini map that represented him eventually made it to their destination - a tree that, at first glance, immediately commanded its age and wisdom. There didn't seem to be any Pokemon around - just him and Gou and the tree.
They stared at its bark for a while, and its branches. Leaves fluttered in the wind, and it felt like a safe space. Here he wasn't going to be harmed, only healed, but he also knew he could not stay here for long. He pressed his hand on the trunk and let a warmth envelop him, almost like a hug, but airy.
<Kon.>
âYeah?â
<I don't like losing.>
âThat's perfectly normal.â
<I don't like getting beat up.>
Arthur wondered what he should say here, but it didn't sound like Gou was shying away from a challenge. He was just stating the obvious.
âThen we'll need to work hard.â
<You'll help me, right?>
How amusingly arrogant. He met the eyes of the little Chimchar that stood beside him, fully healed. Arthur believed that the scratch on his face was gone too. A trifle little thing. âI believe that is my line, Gou.â
perhaps a new resolve?
