Cream and rouge dunes stretched into the distance, their rounded bodies shot through with tendrils of black from the Corruption Zone to the North.
"I have never seen such sand!" Torino said, gobsmacked at the sweltering scope of the desert. On the EU server they had only had tundra, forest, and ice castle. There had been no Beta Island and definitely no Ostellia.
Her Petilil Girasoli bounced along the sands like a rubber cactus, soaking up the harsh sunlight.
"And you Wolf? Do you like hot things or cold things?"

It was a sight to see, that much was clear. Pale golden orbs shifted over the vast sea of sand and city, honestly kind of blown away by what was in front of her. It was like a scene from one of those post-apocalyptic and dystopian action movie, where the city has been destroyed for reasons the watcher is about to find out. Wolf has never been to the desert in real life, though this made her feel like she could cross it off a bucket list.
It wasn’t until she heard the other play speak until Wolf snapped out of her ‘aww’ moment. Her gaze fell upon the pink haired woman with the gamertag Torino floating above her head only for a moment before disappearing, Wolf allowing her shoulders to casually roll in a shrug. “I would say hot but this- may be too hot for me.” The sun was hot, very hot. And the sand was hot, very hot. Everything was hot here. How could anything survive in this type of climate? Luckily, the heat didn’t seem to bother her avatar. Yet. "How about yourself? Hot or cold?"
A low grumble of a growl rattled in the type null’s helmet, dark gaze took in their surrounds with edge. To be fair though, Ziryan was always on edge so Wolf simply ignored him. “Do you know where we need to go? I haven’t really been exploring the new region as of late.”

"Oh it is good and warm for me," Torino laughed, as the sand whipped up alongside her. "I do not want cold now, thank you. It is Summer, Wolf! The land should be bright and hot and not even dreaming of ice!"
"There!" Torino said, pointing across the sands at a crackling ruin poking upwards like concrete driftwood. "That's where we go. The castle!" She skipped down the face of a lopsided dune, her bare feet kicking up sprays of hot sand. As she did, the desert underneath them trembled with the hiss and roar of wakening wings, and a bright purple creature rose into the sky. "Ah! run Wolf! I do not want a bug chasing us today!"

Pale golden orbs lifted to the direction the player pointed, eyes narrowing at the ruins off in the distance only to see the other player skipping towards it without a second thought. Her mouth parted, about ready to ask if they should be a little more careful traveling here with the whole invasive species thing being an issue. But as the player shifted into a sprint to follow after them, the hot blanket of sand below them began to shift.
Wolf ears fulled erected on her head, brows high on her expression. The other player screamed to run faster, making the hybrid’s heart race. Not questioning her advice, she ran after the other player. In the corner of her eye, the player spotted something big and purple emerging from the ground. She cursed, unsure how to make her avatar run faster than it was already going. “Holy sh**!”

They sprinted past the purple creature, down the dunes and towards the crunchy ruins of the abandoned theme park. Torino set her sights on a toppled Ferris wheel, it's cogs long since filled with grit and burning sand and its paint stripped to rust by the winds of the desert. "Ah! Go with me! We can hide down in the old park!"
Behind her, the purple beast rose into the arid air and darted around, its venomous eyes poised and searching for prey.
"Follow me, Wolf!" Torino called, as she ran as fast as she could down the tumbling sands. Out on the dunes they were exposed, in deep trouble if the creature spotted them. But in the tangling wreck of the theme park they could lose themselves among the flaked paint and bright graffiti.
Torino hit the base of the dune and darted around a cracked and crooked wall, where she waited for Wolf to join her. Had they lost the purple beast?

This place was no joke. It was dangerous beyond belief. Yet, her exploring partner seemed unfazed by it all. While she dashed through the hot dunes, Wolf couldn’t help her pale golden orbs from darting left and right in fear she was about to get blocked out. Luckily, she had both her running shoes and the added speed thanks to the Bolter subclass made it easier for her to keep up with the other player.
As soon as they got behind the wall, Wolf avatar huffed and puffed. Her stamina nearly drained. And for a moment, she leaned up against the wall. Wolf ears twitched, listening for the sounds of an ultra beast still on their trail. However, it was silent. “I- I- I think lost it,” the player breathed heavily, moving to peak around the corner. But as she did, her eyes widened at the sight of what she came here for. A blacephalon. “There’s a different ultra beast,” she whispered, observing the creature’s bizarre movements across the sand dunes, “I think it’s Blacephalon.”
Almost like a the damn thing has some super earring aids or something, it turned towards her and sprinted in their direction. She player cursed under her breath. “It found us.” Moving out in the open, the player summoned her type null. It materialized in seconds, emitting a low growl as his dark gaze fell upon the approaching beast. “Aerial Ace!”
The chimera like creature didn’t hesitate, body encased in a light glow. Legs fixed, claws tug into the soft sand as he sprang into action. Snarling all the while, his body became light as a feather. He charged, leaping high into the air just before they were close to each other only to come crashing down onto the ultra beast with all his might. “Here we go Torino!”

"Here we go!" Torino echoed, laughing as she sent out her Doduo. The Pokemon hit the sands running, and sprinted past the Blacephelon in a burst of speed. It was a strange sight, seeing Type: Null and Doduo together. Torino had never seen the gorgeous Chimera before, and her eyes widened with wonderful.
"It is so beautiful!" Torino said, her heart melting at the sight of the creature. It was armored, part bird, and yet definitely a dog. It was perfect! "Where did you get him?" Torino asked Wolf. She needed one of her own.
Meanwhile Doduo was fighting with beak and claw. It jabbed at the Blacephalon's balloon head with its twin beaks and slashed at the clown's wriggling feet. The thing was too slippery!
Doduo jumped back, feathers singed by an explosion. He kicked up a sand cloud, obscuring the Ultra Beast and giving him time to reposition.

The dust cloud exploded from within, spraying grit and flames through the abandoned park, but Passero was already moving. He dashed behind Type: Null and jabbed at pressure points on his fellow fighter. The Acupressure activated his ally's muscles, sending strange blood coursing through Type: Null's body.
He parted back into the fight, leading the next assault with his jabbing beaks, which curved through the air like dual scimitars in a gorgeous Swords Dance. His feet may have been build for speed across the plains, but they were perfect for the quick turns and sure footing required to fight in such tight quarters.
Blacephalon lunged at Passero, its wriggly limbs tangling around his body like a tossed bolas.
"Passero!" Torino called, but there was no need for worry.
Doduo pulled his legs out of the entangling clown like greased fingers slipping from a paper trap. He let out a triumphant crow and kicked off the creature, slashing it with his long talons just for good measure.

Blacephalon's head spun on its neck, tracking Doduo with unseen eyes. The bird was singed but still singing. His body was amped up on Swords Dance, his beak sharp as a rapier and with twice as many points.
Passero crowed again. He paced slowly backwards, leading the clown away from Torino, Wolf, and Type:Null.
Blacephalon followed, snaking across the sands with its long and slithery limbs. The way it moved made Torino feel uncomfortable, like she was watching someone dance with no bones.
Torino looked over at Wolf, and then made a motion to the clown. This was her chance! The creature had its eyeless orb turned away from them, and was focussed solely on Passero. This was the perfect moment for a surprise attack.

The type null raced across the hot sandy desert, leaping into the air only to come crashing down onto the strange beast before him. Their bodies collided, his foe letting out a grunt of pain of pain before lasting out back at him. A single swipe was all it took, its length arms with covered hand like appendages connected with his body and sending Ziryan flying through the air. He landed a few paces back, sand blooming out from his hit into the sand. The chimera rolling end over end until coming to a stop. Wolf blinked, shocked.
The hybrid was quickly distracted by her partner whom not only sent out a speedy little Doduo that was kicking butt, but seemed very interested in her own creature who finally got back to his feet and charged at the ultra beast once again. “Oh. I was in the shop…” she started, pausing to be sure her beast wasn’t out already before continuing, “… browsing the store to see what there was to offer and seen it in there. Read the requirements and sent the bytes. It’s really not too difficult to get if you are willing to wait in upgrades.”
To be honest, Wolf probably should’ve waited to get the type null. It seems that investing in updates early was the best strategy. However, she always wanted a type null with its evolution silvally being one of those top tier creatures designs in her opinion. Also, it was canine like and Wolfie like her canines. She needed all the canines.
Torino's dodou was putting in the WORK. It tangled with the ultra beast, really giving it a run for its money so to speak. Ziryan observed carefully, waiting for his turn to give the creature a new one. And when the opportunity came, the type null didn’t hesitate. He charged again, leaping into the air to hit it with another round of AERIAL ACE in a surprise attack. It grunted in pain, stumbling on itself as it tried to recovery from the sudden second attack.

"Oh! So I can just get it from the shop?" Torino said, eyes wide. She retreated a little from the fight and opened up her UI. Her eyes bulged when she saw the price next to the icon. "It is so much!" she said with shock. "400 BYTES? I was going to upgrade but..." she looked at the majestic form of Wolf's Type:Null "It is so beautiful!"
She felt her heart melt.
Like Wolf, Torino was a dog person through and through. Growing up her family had always had a dog or two running around the garden. She had cute dog pajamas on right now! And back in the outside world her walls, diary, and even her Worldscreen had little dog stickers on it. The allure of a custom built dog made with all of her favorite parts of her other Pokemon was just too much.
"I will buy it," she said, finger hovering over the UI. "But only once I have the perfect Pokemon to mix together!" It was a reasonable compromise, and one that took all of Torino's willpower.
She closed her UI.
Meanwhile, Doduo and Type:Null had been hard at work battling the Blacephalon. The air was full of sand and scattered pixels and sharp battle-cries.

Wolf remained by Torino, observing from the corner of eyes as the player seemed to not noticed the type null in the shop and was shocked by its price. And as such, the player gave a pain nod. “It is unfortunately. I decided to spend the byte before upgrading anything. But, I do think it’s worth it in the end.”
Her own pale orbs flickered to her Type Null, observing silently for a moment as it attempt to be as badass as the three headed bird. “It is such an awesome design,” the player mumbled mostly to herself, “I would get another one if they weren’t so expensive and wans't limited to one.” She loved everything about the pokemon, Unvor really making the pokemon unique which is one of the first reason she loved it.
Movement bought her attention back to the other player, offering a small smile and nod when she claimed she would get it only after combining the right pokemon. And to be honest, Wolf didn’t think of that. She just took the first pokemon she has and did it. Maybe, that’s why she Type Null was struggling so hard against the ultra beast.
Speaking of Ultra Beast, the strange clown like creature llashed out at her creatures again. The blow sent Ziryan back several paces, though he somehow landed majestically on his paws/talon. Exhaustion was clear, his breath even louder though his helmet like head. “I think he might be close to done here soon,” Wolf mumbled, somewhat embarrassed that her Type Null was already wearing down, “I might need to retreat quick to heal.” Her gaze fell to the players pokemon, watching at it took a nasty hit from the beast. “You go ahead and heal quick. We’ll distract it for now. Just, hurry back. Ziryan is on his last bit of heath too.”
With that, it was time to distract. “Hang in there. Metal sounds!” The chimera like creature took in a deep breath, chest expanded with the sudden intake of air. And when ready, the Type Null’s muzzle burst open. An ear piercing noise erupted from deep within him, causing the Ultra Beat to flinched away in pain. “Go now,” Wolf said to the player if she hasn’t retreated already, fearing that it wasn’t going to be enough and her creature was about to be KOed too.

Torino fast-traveled back from the Nexus, and sprinted over the dunes back to the amusement park.
The clown was gone.
"No!" she shouted, throwing her hands up in frustration. "That is no fair!" She had wanted to capture the orb-headed Pokemon. It was scary, with its explosions and snake-like movement, but something about it drew her eye. Was it just morbid curiosity? A way to quiet the many questions bumping around in her head?
She took two steps down a broken alley and the sand EXPLODED underfoot. She was thrown back in a wave of red grit and smoke. Torino wiped her face and looked up to see the Blacephalon wrapped around Passero!
It had ambushed them!
Her Doduo pecked and jabbed at the clown tangled around its body. It raked at its assailant with long claws, trying to pry it away.
But the clown held tight, and its head started to expand as it prepared another detonation.

The ultra beast came at her type null without a second thought. Its gloved appendage swung wide, managing to back hand Ziryan mid jump and send him across the sand landscape several feet out. The player cursed under her breath, unable to do anything other than watched her poor creature take a short flight before crashing into the hot sand. At least, the sand cushioned his fall some. The ultra beast softly snickered maniacally, its strange head turning to focus on Wolf. Her eyes widened. “Nope!”
Using her new Bolter subclass and running shoes, the hybrid avatar was at Ziryan’s side in a blink of an eye. His chest rose and fell, simply unconscious but not dead. Good. Good. She quickly recalled the beast, side glancing at the ultra beast to see it find her once more. Without a second thought, Wolf was off to heal up.
…
To be honest, if it wasn’t for Torino Wolf would’ve probably not came back. Personally, she didn’t find any of the ultra beast design attractive. And with no intentions of getting one or using it, calling it a lost was find with her. Yet, she didn’t want to abandon the other player. She seemed smarter, smarter than her in this game. And really, Wolf did need to start playing the game with others inside of always being an actual lone wolf here.
By the time she found the wild pokemon and the player, it appeared that Torino had already engage the beast. Loud explosions rung in her wolf earth, the ground quaking with such force. “Ziryan. Round two. This time. Kick its a**!” The type null emitted a low growl, it rattled in his helmet as his dark red eyes glared at it. “Go before it pops again.”
Without hesitation, the chimera moved. Talons and paws pressed into the sand, pushing himself faster and faster towards the formidable foe. And when he was within range, the creature leaped at it. Sharp talons flexed, landing on its head and flexing on it to pop it with a CRUSHing CLAW. The Ultra beast whaled in pain, air escaping its balloon like head as it wouldn’t build up the bomb again. The type null attempted to leap off the ultra beast in its stumbling agony, trying to get some distance before it counter attacked him in close range.

The burning clown hit the sands, sending up a spray of grain and smoke as it was finally knocked out.
"We did it, yay!" Torino cheered, clapping her hands and hugging her Doduo with joy. "Wolf you are so smart and strong, and so is Ziryan!" Torino fawned over the Type:Null, praising its powerful attacks and handsome helmet.
Once they were done celebrating, Torino threw her Golden Pokeball at the fainted clown. It disappeared inside with a flash of light and the smell of sparklers. "Yay! I do not know if this one will be as happy and good at dancing as my Xurkitree, but we will try anyway!" Torino made a determined face and then smiled at Wolf.
"I would like to do this again! Maybe next time we can go somewhere even more exciting!" Torino thought for a moment. "Or somewhere with dogs!"
