Though little had changed geographically about Ostellia since Aero , Josh Devlin , and many others had freed the area from Hearteater's grasp, the child was excited to be able to roam the Drowned Harbor's beaches without the threat of Nihilego latching onto his head and injecting their potent neural poison into him and his Pokémon. The harbor and surrounding waterfront looked far less gloomy, though shipwrecks and mangled buildings still poked out from the water's surface.
Thunder dug into Mirage's saddle deeply with his talons, the Galarian Zapdos holding on for dear life as the Ninjask revved up his wings. Storm hovered above the beach on his tiny wings, flying in perfect sync with Slider the Rufflet as the two looked for helpless water-types to prey upon. "Looks so much different with the sun out now, doesn't it, Aero ?" Josh mused as he ran his hand across his Pidgeot's feathers, the large bird sounding a mighty squawk upon sighting a pair of Wattrel flying in their direction.

Before the Hearteater raid, Aero was paranoid after hearing about Ultra Beasts roaming around wreaking havoc. She had some bad memories such as escaping a Xurkitree with her life or barely losing her Fuecoco from a Buzzwole... She thought she might get more if she continued exploring Ostellia in its current state.
Thankfully, that wasn't the case anymore. She got a new Buzzwole who was much more friendly than the last one, and now, her Braviary and Zubat were playing with the cutest Zapdos duo she had ever seen. She was standing next to Josh Devlin after he called about trekking through the route now that the source of their troubles was gone. As she saw the sun shining at them, Aero smiled and said, "Yep. It's much better than the gloomy clouds before."
She then stretched her arms to prepare for the trek ahead with Type: Null by her side and a familiar green egg with hexagon pattern in her backpack. "By the way, what happened before the raid? I'm pretty lost at the plot, so I'm basically out of the loop with the Ultra Beast and those strange colorless Pokemon earlier."

Storm, taking the Braviary's presence as a challenge, play-fought the larger flying-type with his beak if Aero and her Pokémon allowed it. He had to be careful; as small as that beak was, it was still sharp as a needle! Meanwhile, Thunder was having the time of his life as Mirage's erratic flight yanked him around, the Ninjask teasing the Zubat in a language only the Pokémon could understand.
Josh's eyes shifted toward Aero's Zygarde egg as he told his story of Hearteater's first half. "Oh, that. We went into Hearteater to scout the place out. Was me, Sarah Lee , Kyukon , and Ruby ," he started to tell his story. "Lots of recon, lots of learning about Hearteater. A little combat, but not as much as I thought there would be. Tried to save their lives, but ended up creating more victims instead. Ares, my Charizard, and Ulysses, my Dewgong, are both in the Everworld because of it. I was so excited to see him evolve. Now I need find a good day to go down there and... win him back."
Were Aero to ask follow-up question around Ares' and Ulysses' last moments, she would get nothing but evasive answers from the child.

Oh? Was this a challenge from a little Zapdos? Ruffy could tell from their eyes that they were raring to fight him in a play battle. Being a senior Pokemon of sorts, the proud Braviary was willing to take on their challenge and see if it could handle its beak of strength...
"Ruffy, don't get too rough on Josh's Zapdos or you're gonna get a time-out!"
Well... Not in a way that would disappoint his trainer. Either way, he was willing to endure the Kantonian Zapdos's peck thanks to its Electric mod. As for Zuri, she was a bit annoyed at the Ninjask's teasing. Of course, that didn't mean she would ignore sportsmanship over her petty rivalry. She was a bit impressed with Mirage's progress after all.
As for Aero, she was surprised by what Josh Devlin had been through. He risked his life to complete a Quest that would end up being a prelude to the Hearteater raid. Yet she was saddened to hear what happened with his Pokemon in the aftermath. "I'm sorry about your Pokemon. I won't say anything else. But I heard Everworld might be tough to get through. I haven't been there before since I haven't got white-out, but I can't help but imagine what Ares and Ulysses have been through while they're gone."

As fun as it was zipping around, Mirage eventually got tired of chauffeuring Thunder around. He landed and let the Galarian Zapdos jump off, landing in the sands below with an expertly placed somersault. One of the few things Josh hadn't done in mainline was complete the Galar DLC, so he didn't know a lot about the flightless legendary bird. Seeing such a feat performed from such a young age made him wonder just how strong Storm would be when grown up!
Josh shivered at the thought of two of his prized Pokémon being trapped down there. "It's way harder than that. You know Ares was my very first Pokémon here, right? And he sacrificed himself to try to save someone very close to me. And he failed." Aero may have remembered from the time they first met, when Ultra Beasts swarmed Ostellia.
Storm swooped in, goading Thunder to try to catch him. The two Zapdos chased after one another, Thunder hooking his talons on Storm's and bringing the electric-type out of the air. Thankfully, the sand below them was soft - that would have hurt, were they above harder ground!

As soon as the Electric Legendary birds focused their play battle on each other, Ruffy was still standing proud. Well, to an overconfident Braviary. In reality, the Braviary was secretly screaming in his mind. Just how powerful were those pecks? And the Zapdos were only babies! It didn't help his ego when he noticed Zuri chuckling behind him. He would have attacked her right there. But knowing his trainer's temper, he rather avoids confrontation in front of her.
Speaking of which, Aero clutched her chest upon learning more about his Pokemon. She couldn't imagine if her Skeledirge would have suffered the same fate as his Charizard. It was luck that allowed her to know about the quest and avoid her participation. But it still gave her shivers down her spine.
"The same thing happened to my Frosmoth during the final moments of the raid. He sacrificed himself for this guy's Poipole, but the opposite happened. It hit really hard on that Lunala and gave us the win to avenge the lost Pokemon." Aero sighed. "I'm still frustrated at what happened even if he didn't go to the Everworld. But I know from my parents that I can't focus on my guilt forever. Your Charizard did the right thing after he failed and I know he won't be happy if you keep being Mr. Gloomy."
She then took something out from her bag, revealing a small wooden house resembling a shrine painted in green decorated with hexagon patterns. Aero gingerly placed it on the ground along with her egg and smiled. "I played this game for a long time now, but I'm no expert on it. I mostly play it to have fun and I don't want to game's story to make me gloomy all day. Besides, you still have a chance to get Ares back. Don't waste your time thinking he failed. Rather, try to apologize to him and tell him that he did the right thing in the end. The same goes for your Dewgong" Josh Devlin{Party}Coco the Skeledirge (Tank) Claws the Type: Null (Sweeper) Ruffy the Braviary (Sweeper) Zuri the Zubat (Sweeper) Crystal the Frosmoth (Support) Vonnie the Buzzwole (Sweeper)

Those Pecks were indeed powerful, and would only get more so as they grew up. "You know, Aero, I bet a spear crafted in the image of a Zapdos beak would be strong," Josh speculated, wondering what rare materials he would have to get ahold of to forge something so strong. They would likely have to be gathered from zones with mobs so advanced that he wouldn't survive for long.
Aero's point really hit home. "That's something I've struggled with my whole life. When something goes wrong, even if it's out of my control, it's hard for me to blame anyone but myself. Think of something I could have done differently. Putting me in a religious school system was one of the worst mistakes my family ever made." Their intent may have been pure, trying to keep him out of the dangerous, borderline dysfunctional Illinois school system rated in the bottom ten percent of the country, but it turned him into a self-deprecating suck-up that even seven years of being an adult didn't let him shake. "You are right, though. You never know until you try."
Josh's eyes shifted toward the small replica of a green, hexagonal Shrine. "That's really well-made," he complimented. "What is that?" he asked, Storm landing near the uniquely-shaped and colored object to sate his own curiosity.

Aero couldn't help but chuckle at watching her Braviary try to shake off the pain while Zuri teased him about it. "True. But I doubt I can wield it since you know, I'm small." She couldn't imagine how could she carry it even in real life. "Maybe that's why I prefer swords and daggers with my Ironsmith as well as games outside Pokemon."
She was surprised at an unexpected revelation from Josh's real-life self. She was attending a normal public school, so she couldn't imagine how he had gone through his life. She was relieved that he could still enjoy riding with his Pokemon. "Just be careful in the Everworld. If something happens to you, I can't call you my "friendly rival" in riding and adventures."
Eventually, the topic switched to her homemade shrine and her egg sitting next to it. "It's a mini-shrine I made for my Zygarde egg. I can't find any shrine that relates to it. So I decided to make one myself. I hope the game counts it as a "shrine"." Josh laughed at Aero's assumption. His own assumptions had been tested within Hearteater; perhaps he was not only getting better at controlling his own faulty assumptions, but noticing those of others better. "I didn't mean the same size as a Zapdos beak! I just meant forged in the shape of one, silly," he retorted. "I'm more of a sword wielder myself, but from what I understand, polearms are effective weapons when used from the saddle."
There couldn't be enough caution with regards to the Everworld. The trials were truly challenging: not in terms of combat, but in terms of truly understanding the Pokémon that was snatched away. He would have to go through Seta's Trial not once, but twice. Once for Ares and once for Ulysses. Both Pokémon were important to him in more ways than one, even though he had captured other aquatic Pokémon.
"Right, I think Alicia Westfield mentioned that, too," Josh nodded, realizing how easy he had it that Zapdos had the Thunderfall Shrine he could bring his own Pokémon to. "I've been to every major Shrine in UNOVR except for one, and it's on Beta Island. Good luck with raising yours; these two little ones are more of a handful than any other Pokémon I've ever raised." Both flying-types raised their heads high, dripping with enthusiasm.

"Oh... Really?" Aero cheekily grinned. "I do like having the idea of riding a Pokemon in a battle with a weapon. But if you ask me, I'm still sticking with my swords and Pokemon by my side any day. I think those MMO players call it a "melee DPS fighter" or a "squishy rogue", I think..."
Aero grinned to witness his motivation rising. She knew it would be a risk to be charged into UNOVR's version of the afterlife, But she also knew Josh was strong. Strong enough to fulfill his goal of bringing back his beloved Pokemon.
She then nodded with a chuckle. "Well, I know much about Zygarde from the anime. So I have a feeling I will be busy taking care of this guy once they hatch. Maybe Rocky might help me since they're part-Ground-type since I still have another Legendary to take care of." She eyed her Type: Null, who was staring at two Zapdos play-fighting. "It might take a while for me to get them to evolve soon." Josh mirrored Aero's grin at the mention of his dream build. "That's exactly my dream here: to ride a legendary Pokémon into battle with a weapon I craft myself. I've got such a long way to go to get there, though. I don't know a single person with a legendary Pokémon I can reliably beat in battle." His best bet was ARAVAN ESCHER, his RIVAL, who had a Kyogre. One of his birds had a type advantage against it. Sarah Lee 's Groudon certainly wasn't an option. The support titan could outheal any damage the two birds dealt with their Flying-type attacks, and that was without Primal Reversion. With it, the ground-type would be restoring thousands of hit points per round.
At the mention of Aero's evolution plans, Josh pulled up the page about Type: Null. "I think the hardest part is going to be capturing a Pokémon of every type," he added, misreading the requirement. A Silvally would be an excellent addition to the team, but it seems like more work evolving one than even raising a legendary Pokémon.
The two young Zapdos returned to Josh's side. "If you need a hand hatching an egg, let me know; I've got some legendary bird DNA I'd like to stack up and get eggs out of," he offered, unsure whether the next legendary Pokémon he wanted to raise would be an Articuno, a Moltres, or whatever that mystery strand of DNA sitting in his inventory was from the DOG TOWER.

"Well, if I can hatch Zygarde along with other ones in my inventory, I'm sure your Zapdos will have great opponents to face. And if you don't want too much disadvantage, I'll try raising a Jirachi or a Solgaleo," Aero offered. "In fact, my dream is not only to explore UNOVR but also battle alongside them in my armor! Until I clean it up, of course." She still recalled her armor was corrupted by the mysterious mist back in the Hearteater raid and she feared something might happen if she kept it for too long.
After hearing Josh's guess on Type: Null's evolution requirements, Aero raised her eyebrow as he opened her Pokemon's stats. "That's odd. I had them meeting different Pokemon in my playthrough and it was added to the list. There's nothing said about capturing every type." Either way, she shrugged her shoulders as she closed the window. "Still, it depends if you also want to explore like me. I barely meet other players outside World Events and Quests."
Eventually, her Braviary and Zubat returned to her side as well and she nodded to her friend. "Same here. I am planning to stack up on Cosmog DNA soon. I just got a nifty sword from the raid and it would look cool wielding it alongside a Solgaleo." The mention of a Solgaleo made Josh remember he got a strand of Cosmog DNA. "That's the one of the two I'd want to raise, as well," Josh replied. "Just not until these two grow up. They've had almost my full attention since Professor Ash helped me sequence them." And before long, the young Zapdos would start talking, too.
Upon hearing the two trainers' murmurs, Thunder and Storm crowded around Josh as he looked through his UI for the Type: Null quest. One of the objectives, as he saw it, was to capture a Pokémon of every type. "Am I running on an old patch or something? Cause I reread it. It says capture one Pokémon of each type." Perhaps they were settings he needed the Beta Tester class to access. While he didn't mind the higher difficulty for now, knowing where to adjust it in the event things got ridiculous would be nice to know.
"Speaking of armor, I was rereading through some class blurbs after our battle," the Bolter's bright mind whirred aloud. "It might be time to go out to the Steppes and gather some materials for crafting barding for my Pokémon. Nothing that will weigh them down too much, but just... something." Completely unarmored, impacts would hurt a lot. Even if it wasn't full-body, having some armor in sensitive spots, especially around critical joints, would be a huge help. There would be nothing worse than flying on a dragon, only for one of its wing joints to be struck by an attack and sending it crashing to the ground.

Aero couldn't help but squint her eyes at Josh's window. Clearly, his UI must be bugged or something. But she didn't have the heart to tell him or even correct him based on the info she recently got. "Either way, you can try interacting with all of the Pokemon without catching them. Don't forget we can't have more than 50 Pokemon in our box. Unless you want to trade them for some rare Pokemon, it's best if you should try interaction before heading to the catching route."
Even with one of his subclasses being Ironsmith, Aero smiled to see his creative ways to use them for his riding goals. "I guess I should do the same with my swords and armor. My armor just got corrupted by that Hearteater's mist and I was planning to clean it up at that new shrine." She showed him the description of her aforementioned armor as she didn't want to infect their Pokemon by accident. "So far, it hasn't affected me or given me that rumored Parasite subclass. But there's no way for me to keep something so cursed without knowing its effects. Plus, I heard the Contact subclass has immunity against them as long as I have Vonnie with me. Which might be a double-edged sword for me..." She groaned, now conflicted at this accursed blessing. "Might be worth a try," Josh nodded, though he had the vast majority of the types covered already. "Come to think of it, how many of the types do I have covered?" Though he could not withdraw from his Box without being in town or at a camp that specifically allowed it, he could at least view his Box from the menu. "Accounting for Ulysses, who is stuck in the Everworld, I have all but Ghost covered. The problem is there are very few Ghost-type Pokémon that can feasibly be ridden. Dragapult's about it; I think the rest are legendary." The alternative would be to purchase a Ghost Type Mod and slap it on one of his Pokémon, but that cost almost as much as a strand of DNA. "Might be worth thinking about getting Lunala DNA to fill that need."
Josh's eyes lit up when Aero mentioned a new Shrine that could cleanse Corruption. "Hold up. A Shrine that can purify a Corrupted Pokémon? Where is it at? I've been looking for a means to cleans my Absol of this Corruption since the end of Hearteater." He rambled on and on about how precious his Absol was and how terrified he was of using the Pokémon. What if a greater source of Corruption possessed the Absol gain, just like Hearteater did? There were too many unanswered questions... questions he would rather not deal with answering. If he could purge the Corruption simply by visiting a shrine, he would.
It, of course, wouldn't be that simple.
