In wake of the Giant Shrine’s disappearance and the revival of the entity called Zapdos, Kazuki has taken up more digital cardio.
It’s a pain in the ass, for sure; any plans to train in the Surge Steppes would require heading to another area for healing, as only two shrines remain. Most would opt for fast travel, but he wants to feel the burn in his legs. It’s a breath of fresh air, not being weighed down by a cast.
Sprigatito hums, singing some nonsense ‘meow meow meow’ song as they approach the Precipice Shrine. The lyrics come to a gradual stop as the massive hole comes into view, a wave of psychic energy emitting from the pit with a low, foreboding hum.
“Not a shrine,” Kazuki comments, leaning over the edge to stare at the pit. The cat on his shoulder yelps as he nearly falls off, only for his trainer’s tattooed hand to nab him by the scruff. “This is why I keep telling you to get in the damn ball,” he grumbles, replacing the puffball on his shoulder, the cat mewling gratefully.

Aero was exhausted. After the events that caused the Giant Shrine's sudden disappearance (not that she blamed the Prince who transformed into a Zapdos), she has to move to another shrine to heal her Pokemon after everything they've been through. She wanted to catch some Pokemon and train her Pokemon in time for another quest or event and since she unlocked the Beta Island after spending a lot of Bytes for it, she needed some preparation before she could venture off into the unknown.
As she approached it, her Gothita suddenly came out and cried to her about something coming out from the shrine. "What's the matter, Lollie?"
Before she knew it, a portal suddenly appeared between Aero and the shrine. "That never happened in the Giant Shrine before! It looks interesting, but I have some other things to do right now. What do you think, Lollie?"
Her Gothita thought as she stared at the portal and cried to her while pointing a direction away from it.
"Yeah, let's check it out if we have time. Right now, it's healing time."
With that, she activated the shrine's other function...

Last time she’d needed to heal, Taylor had visited the Noonlight Shrine. This time, for variety, she’d headed to the Precipice Shrine instead. Now, as she found herself approaching the yawning chasm, she began to regret the decision. Mist and odd, psychic energy filled the pit, ensuring that the naked eye was helpless to see just what might be down there, and there was an odd hush about the entire place. Kneeling at the lip of the pit, the young woman’s hand brushed one of the tiny pink flowers and she closed her eyes. As much to avoid looking into the portal as to pray.

<It’s all my fault!> Sprigatito sobs. This is it. Now his trainer is going to be mad, and say a bunch of bad words, and then he’ll replace him with a fire type who he is sure is the man’s favorite type which is just silly because obviously grass types smell better and—
“Well yeah, it was, but chill.”
It stumps him hard enough that he freezes in the middle of a sniffle. Even Mudbray sitting beside him seems bewildered at the fact their trainer, who has a solid record for getting pissed at even the slightest inconvenience, is letting him off with a pass. After losing a battle and wrecking an antique shop.
Kazuki snorts. “We’re going to go back. You can deal with the cat then, so stop crying and get up.”
The man is already walking off. Sprigatito scrambles to his feet, tears still drying on his fluffy cheeks. <W-why?! I don’t get it! Why are we going back?>
Kazuki doesn’t stop, though his leisurely pace means his pokemon do catch up with him once they pick their jaws off the floor. “I want a crossbow.” He squints. "And I am getting a crossbow." And he will destroy every antique shop in the settlement if that's what it takes.

Well heck, it felt like she’d only just been here, and back she was again. Quite why Taylor had chosen to return to this Shrine as opposed to the other when this one gave her such a severe case of the heebie jeebies was a mystery, but here she was. The Rufflet encountered on Route 3 was no joke, and some healing was called for before the fight could continue.
A hand rested gently on Vixey’s back as the pair sat quietly by the edge of the void, staring down into it in quiet contemplation. Taylor wasn’t quite sure what she was expecting, but a feeling of empty dissatisfaction certainly wasn’t it. With a shudder, she stood and lifted the Vulpix into her arms, holding her close. “Come on girly, I think that’ll do.” With one last, uneasy glance back at the pit, she shook her head and turned to leave.

Aaaanad she was back again. She was beginning to get the impression that this process would take a while. In fairness, there were an overwhelming number of wild Pokémon to tackle (no pun intended) and even with her entire team thus far out on the field, they were easily outnumbered.
If anything, at least the healing breaks gave the woman a chance to tend her own, quite literal wounds. Could wounds get infected in VR? Probably not, but best not to test it! Around five minutes later, her arms from wrist to elbow were tightly bandaged, the speed and surety with which the process was completed speaking volumes as to how many times she’d done this before…

Verai had gone to Giant Shrine, first, and had stood there for a while before reluctantly admitting to himself that little would happen there, if anything. So, he had trekked, and made his way then to here, Precipice Shrine. It was similar to how Giant Shrine was now- a massive hole in the ground- But he liked the feel of this one less. It reached for him, almost, leaving nothingness in its wake. It unnerved him, and he was careful to keep everyone in their pokeballs. Whatever musings he had wanted to have- they would find no purchase, here.

Verai stood, looking over the inky surface of the shrine. It was funny, wasn't it? How visceral of emotions could be drawn from a simple game. How invoking in a relaxation tool could make him so exhausted. The shrine was dark, and bottomless. With everything recently, Unovr was drawing something from him- Was it the game's actions? His own subconscious trying to heal? Or his subconscious, trying to ensure those around him would always understand?
He didn't like the answer his mind gave, and the shrine offered only unsatisfying silence.

With any luck, this would be the last time she found herself here for a while. The game really hadn’t been kidding when it chirped about dangerous enemies. She found herself endlessly appreciative of the fact that reaching zero HP in a tall grass encounter didn’t result in whiting out. She’d yet to experience the failstate and if she was honest with herself, she was a little worried about it. It was bound to happen at some point, and with pain levels set to realistic, she had to wonder if it would feel like quite literally passing out.
“Well, that’s not something I’ll find out today, at least,” she murmured to herself as she stood from the neat kneeling position at the edge of Precipice Shrine. One positive to the repeated need for healing was that she felt a fair deal less unnerved by the gaping hole in the ground.

She really had been too optimistic last time, hadn’t she? Trudging back to the edge of the shrine, she crouched down once more and set to tending her wounds. It was fortunate that she didn’t have to send out her team each time - if she had to patch them up this many times in such quick succession, she wasn’t sure she could stand the guilt! They might only be made up of code and part of a game but they were cute and fluffy creatures made up of code.
By the time she finished up at the shrine this time, makeshift steri-strips held together the cut on her face, along with the previously bandaged arms. Hell, she was really starting to look the scrappy fighter!

They head back to the shrine. Tepig seems particularly sulky, waddling with his head down as they walk past the gates and approach the pit smack dab in the center.
“Will you lift your head already?” Kazuki says. “I said you did fine, didn’t I? You killed it, but training isn’t done, so we’re getting you healed up first.”
Tepig nods, and it is a very sad nod. He's not teary-eyed like Sprigatito, he just kind of reminds Kazuki of a moody teenager. Kazuki finds himself wishing he’d just eat one of the magic flowers already. And how is a kid like this not amazed at the sight of the giant magic pit?
“Come on. Let’s make this quick, and then we can throw you back into the next fight.”

Silvermoon looked not at the pit, but at the little flowers. They were tiny, petals little more than specks, and they felt soft when they ran their fingers over them. "Maybe... maybe I'll get some flowers. When I'm out next." Liven up their apartment. It was good energy, right? Having living plants around? Kasey didn't really know... but it probably couldn't hurt.
The darkness yawned, but Silvermoon looked at the flowers, instead.

The shrine was alight with the sound of mad cackling.
"Oh, man, Gex, this is the most fun I've had in years." M'Foxy said, flopping down in the little flowers. "He was so big! And that other little guy! And the fire!" She let out another peal of laughter. Gex... didn't quite understand.
"Oh, but." She sat up quickly, grass falling from her hair. "That tepig wasn't working alone. He had... an accomplice. We gotta find them!"

<Um. What happened?> Tepig gets up, feeling a bit dizzy. A punch to the face tends to do that. He wonders if they ended up wiping because of it.
“Dinosaur killed me.” He sees his trainer pick himself up and immediately begin marching down the shrine steps. Tepig scrambles to follow after him.
<You- what?>
“Tried to punch it. Killed me.” The sound of his voice makes him seem angry, but Tepig is unnerved to find his trainer grinning. “Gotta kill it back,” he says, cracking his knuckles.
Wasn’t this supposed to be his training session?

<I think you should use pokemon,> Tepig insists, <in a pokemon battle.> He hasn’t been a trainer pokemon for long, but he is very, very sure, that this is how it’s done.
“I think you should shut up,” Kazuki says, stretching his arms over his head and abusing the miracle of the game where he instantly regenerates.
<You are going to die again and we’re going to come back here a hundred times.>
“Death is temporary,” Kazuki retorts, “cardio is forever.”
