"Gex," M'Foxy said, raising a hand to hold it against the sun, shielding her eyes. "D'you think this is an allegory for, like, life?"
<... what?>
"The futility and resilience of mankind. Getting knocked down, and destroyed... and coming right back."
Gex frowned down at her. That didn't... sound right at all. M'Foxy sighed. "I guess it's a lot like love, too."
He was certain that was absolutely not correct.

“I’m just saying,” Kazuki huffs, crossing his arms. “Don’t step in for me. It’s not like the injury’s permanent anyways.”
Tepig by this point, has proceeded to lounge. He lies in a bed of flowers near the strange abyss. <It’s a team effort, trainer. And considering how long we’ve been at this—> he gestures to the dirt nearby, where he has carved a few prison lines indicating their many deaths, <—you need all the help you can get.>
“Bold words, from the pokemon who didn’t even follow me back down last time.”
Tepig stretches, chewing a flower placidly. <I like to think of it more as… skipping the journey and appreciating the destination.>

She was PUMPED she was READY.
Gex was not- He sat there, watching his trainer jog in place. "We've got this, Gex." She said, looking down at him with intense eyes. "That dura-whatever? He's dead meat." She drew a finger across her neck. Gex winced.

M'Foxy blinked. She had... been in the middle of a conversation. What had even happened? "Hellooooo?" She called, spinning a bit. There was no one there! Not even Gex! Her Deep Cover Gecko! What a mess! M'Foxy siiighed, straightening her outfit before stepping out, and falling into a little skip. Maybe she'd have another fun conversation with that guy!

Silvermoon sat on a rock, facing the Shrine. But their attention wasn't on it. Kintsugi was laying against them, armored head resting in Silvermoon's lap. Silvermoon couldn't pet their head, like you could a cat, but... They stroked down Kintsugi's neck, just taking the moment to sit, and rest.
It was a lot nicer with someone else there.

She realized she hated this shrine. The massive pit. The flowers. The fog. It was all too much, all crowding her mind in a way that ached Even staring at it gave no reprieve, no sense of healing or rejuvination. Just a full body emptiness. Just... nothihg.

M'Foxy retreated back, sevral paces. Closer to the shrine, closed to the dark pit. The venipede was still there, still watching. It scuttled, a bit, legs rustling against the grass, eyes bright and luminous. M'Foxy turned away, to keep from looking at it, but the terrible sound remained. With any kuck, the shrine would continue to keep it at bay. Maybe forever. Maybe it would get bored and leave.

She'd managed to go a week or so without needing to return to the shrine, but the wet, bedraggled state in which she now presented herself rather dampened (geddit?) any sense of achievement that might have granted. Water drip-drip-dripped from her sodden hair onto the ground, and she did her best to avoid meeting the disgruntled eye of Dinah sat beside her. The feline was not a fan of being so wet. Mumble, on the other hand, was having the time of his life!

Orion spent a moment reflecting on all that had happened here, the ice skating incident, the fight to free the timberlands from the long night, and all of the hauntings he had faced in this forest. On one hand, he wished none of those things had ever happened. People had suffered, endured all sorts of pain and walked away with trauma at their very core. Yet...on the other hand it had made him stronger. This shrine and it's former ruler had bestowed upon him a curse that had made him a force to be reckoned with, and taught him that the mind could propel the body to do things it never thought itself capable of. It had given him a tool to protect people, it had made him stronger, and it had allowed him to help those he cared about and dispose of the false tyrant.
Taking a deep breath, he clenched his hands into fists.
There was much to do still, and he wasn't done growing. Neither was his team, and while this shrine was likely long since done providing him challenges to grow, it was still nice to stop and think about. How far he'd come, and how far he'd go. Walking away, he took a deep breath. This wasn't his first stop here, and so long as the coffin in his crypt kept spawning him there it wouldn't be the last.

Zmey had, in fact, not dealt with that thing. Actually, that thing had effectively given the Cyndaquil a can of proverbial whoop ass, leaving him at no more than 1 miserable HP by the time Yuze got up, picked him up, and got him out of there.
He needs his only Pokémon not unconscious, thank you very much.
Now, Zmey stands at the very edge of the Precipice, looking into it with boundless curiosity.
"Don't fall." Yuze warns, gaze fixed on the flickering energy that dances over the abyss. "We're not going there yet."
Eventually, yes, but they have a lot to do before then.
"Let's get out of here, we have Drilbur to...defeat." He'd say kill, but that just wouldn't be accurate.

They take a quick break, though returning to the shrine is a much longer endeavor as Tepig refused to be carried or returned to his ball.
“Not sure if your stamina’s really what you need to work on here,” Kazuki says, taking millimeter steps to stay right behind Tepig, who is currently traveling at the pace of a slug. His little nubby legs are trembling as he waddles up to the abyss, at which point Kazuki takes the lead.
“Let’s get you topped up.” He kneels down at the edge, looking over into the portal and waiting for its strange energy to seep into his tired pokemon.

He sits at the edge of the precipice, but his attention is not on the abyss. Not on the swirling psychic energy, not on the timberlands, nor on the mist. Instead, Yuze looks at the UI before him, considering possible upgrades while a hand rests on his Cyndaquil's head.
Zmey, seated next to him, does look at the shrine, fascinated and curious and not at all scared. Perhaps he should be, but that's not the way the Cyndaquil is. Not usually, at least.
"Hm... Maybe I should evolve you..." Yuze muses, catching the attention of his starter.

Strangely, despite the fact that it had unnerved the hell out of her to begin with, Precipice Shrine was quickly becoming her preferred place to heal. As uncomfortable as the gaping maw made her feel, Taylor found herself drawn to it. Perhaps it was because it made her so uneasy that her mind couldn’t stop thinking about it…
This was the first time she’d considered using the sacrifice feature here. She had a new Pokemon in her inventory that she knew she didn’t intend to keep, but the wording of “sacrifice” just sounded so… ominous. Crouching at the lip of the chasm now, she hovered over the options presented. “Exalting” was also an option, and sounded much less severe, though she suspected it was just another word for the same action, present to excuse the associated guilt.
Still, there was only one way to find out, she supposed. Tapping the “exalt” option, she selected one of the three recently caught Magikarp and waited to see what would happen.
As it turned out, not a whole lot. The named pokemon disappeared from her box and a small chime sounded in confirmation. She stood, perplexed, before noticing a small, orb-shaped item on the ground by her feet. Reaching down, she made to pick it up but shrieked at the texture.
“Is that… an eyeball?!”

It's been a while.
A while since she begun avoiding this place. A while since things changed. It seems ridiculous in retrospect, because no matter how many times Tuesday may tell herself that's not the case, the truth is that while in UNOVR, she will always have a certain connection to this place.
Too many memories.
Too many choices.
Too many sacrifices.
"You know..." The Alchemist says to the air, walking along the edge of the abyss. Step by step, fearless. There is no unknown factor now, no real mystery, and yet, she still feels drawn to it. "I'm not really sure of to whom I should be praying to these days. The king? Or, is it possible that despite everything, your spirit is still somewhere to hear me, princess?"
She smirks, mocking, and yet a part of her, the part that still refuses to get rid of that circlet she once stole, that part of her hopes that her words are true in some form...

He kept going back, on occasion. He never truly expected anything, but... he hoped. As errant as that was.
Kitten stayed by his side, every time. as he knelt by the shrine, and closed his eyes, and hoped.
