"Okay, so what are we going again boss?"
Achilles was following Orion as he dragged his heel through the loose dirt, cleaving a line in the sand as he walked. "Cause I'm not quite sure I follow." The cats pawprints followed in the trail alongside his trainer in a jaunty little pitter patter. Orion, for all it was worth, remained silent with a furrowed brow as he focused on his task with a diligence and zeal rarely seen from him.
"He said he was making a blueprint!" Hades answered, breaking from his very important task of "gathering lumber" which consisted of him assembling a rather large pile of sticks which in no way could ever be useful for any sort of construction, but the sentiment helped. Ares the Tepig dumped a small branch alongside the pile and snorted thoughtfully.
"But it aint even blue!" "That's what I'm saying."
"Sush you three, please Im almost done." Orion muttered quickly, breaking his silence for the first time in about thirty minutes. Another swoop of the leg, a couple steps, another line, round the corner aaaaand.
"There." Orion took a step back, looking at his work. "All done."
"But aint even blue!" Ares complained. "All you did was make a bunch of brown lines in uh...boxes?" The three pokemon squinted at the work, but Orion simply shook his head and picked the three of them up. Ares found himself on Orion's left shoulder, Hades on the left, and Achilles was perched carefully on his head. With a change in perspective the three all let out a simultaneous aaaaah.
"It's a plan!" Achilles yelped excitedly. "Why didn't you say so."
"That's what a blueprint is dumbass!" Hades quipped.
"Oi cut the shit guys." Orion scolded, "We're a team, and there's no I in team unless you look in the A hole."
"Sorry." "Sorry..." The two made nice and Orion continued the next step of his master plan, writing one hell of a community letter.
I've come to make an announcement. The fact that this city has been up for more than two hours and nobody had begun planning a watering hole for us to turn up is a fucking disgrace. I've planned out the floorplan of a sick ass bar, now I just need some hands to gather up the wood and do sommadat Ammish shit to snap this thing together like a lego set. If you're down come catch me at the western edge of town by the sick tree that kinda looks like Groudon if you squint real hard.

Olga appeared at the new settlement when she logged back in. New responsibilities rested heavy on her very impressive shoulders and she was going to make sure she was worthy of it. Plus she really needed to check out the new area. The devs were being extra hush hush about it and even when she plied them with energy drinks and hot chips they wouldnât reveal what the starter settlement of Asper looked like. Jerks.
But as Olga looked around the new area she realized that they hadnât shown her because, well, there was nothing to show. Of course. Of course they would offload the design work to players. She had a sneaking suspicion that this was more of a corporate plan to save money than it was to actually have more gameplay for players. Afterall, why pay devs to design a plan when you can get some schmucks in-game to do it for free?
Before she could really work herself in a tizzy over it, Olga spotted a letter asking for help. âSaloon? Yes. Olga like saloon.â Time to find that weird looking tree. Seeing as how there really wasnât anything else around it didnât take Olga much longer to spot someone standing by a dead tree. That was probably him. Olga walked up to him and squinted at the man. She would have to remember to pull up his player data later. But that was a Felicia job, not an Olga job and right now she was Olga. âOlga gather wood. Olga very strong,â she flexed her muscles just to prove that she did, in fact, have many muscles.
âOlga prove Olga very strong,â and she walked over to another mostly dead tree before wrapping her arms around it and pulling it. It was more difficult than she initially thought it would be. âShit,â she whispered to herself before taking a deep breath and pulling harder. Muscles bulged, wood cracked, but eventually she just straight up lifted the tree out of the ground. She carried it over to Orion and dropped it at his feet. âOlga get job?â

Peace was not in town and had not seen any fliers. He was just coming back to town from his adventure of almost being an Avalugg's pet. diva's hand was clutched firmly in his. Even though he was in objectively worse shape, the high of making a new friend in the game was just too much! So he had pulled her along with him on the way back to town. In his other arm, his Scorbunny was still snoozing. She was slumped over like a plushy.
As they came back from their wild adventure, Peace just so happened to pass the show of Olga BanHammer pulling a tree from the ground. Dropping Diva's hand, Peace adjusted Abby in his arms to clap.
"That was really cool! Are we, uh... having a party?" Giving a wave to orioncayge, he stepped over and glanced at the lines on the ground. He hummed and frowned some, leaning down to make a few X inside certain places inside the boxes.
"This is a.. building? You'll need structural supports there, there, there, and... there!" Peace pointed to the Xs, straightening back up and smiling wide. A small laugh left him as he tapped the side of his own head. "Used to be an Architect." |

He could absolutely not focus on anything except the feeling of Peace's hand holding his right now. It wasn't as large as the man's hand in real life, that much he knew. But it was the fact that this was also something that could never happen outside of the game that had him blissed out. Sure he had just saved him in the game but that wasn't the point. Hand holding. That was a big deal. He was being led into town by Peace Maker in order to get him bandaged up and taken care of for the most part. He wasn't that bad off at least. Or at least not as bad as he could be.
Disappointment drifted forward a bit when his hand was dropped but he couldn't exactly say anything about it. Not when he wasn't sure what was going on in that head of his really. So instead he would just focus on the task at hand once more. Taking on a more serious stance and look on the face he was wearing. "You're going to need to make sure you measure better as well. This isn't even." Stamping a heel on one of the lines drawn he redid it in a much better fashion. "A crooked floor will end up getting someone hurt after all."
But he was impressed by Nikoli's work again. Then again he always was.

You know what they say, threaten to build it and they will come. First up was the giant woman, one of the few people to ever make Orion feel small, which was an accomplishment in and of itself, let alone her ability to simply RIP a tree from the ground and sumo slam it like it was nothing. A different man would be scared, or aroused, but Orion was simply impressed. "Fucking excellent Olga, you're hired on the spot! Do some more of that, gather up as much as we can in a pile over uh..." he motioned to a clearing nearby but neither blocking the road nor their building location. "There. Rip em up and stack em over there so we can start processing it all into lumber."
Her turned to the other two, some form of couple perhaps? One had the twink bunny and the other wasn't showing off any pokemon so he couldn't snap judge her. His eyes twitched a little bit as they corrected his schematics, but he wasn't going to let that stop him. "I mean, I was doing it all from memory. It's a rough recreation of my Uncle Mac's bar, though I salooned it up a bit so I may have cut some supports out on accident. But you're right, a good carpenter measures twice and cuts once, gotta make sure everything is supported and level, though we totally need one of the floorboards by the door to creak so that if a newcomer walks in we can all turn and look at him menacingly, while all the regulars know which one to avoid" He offered them each a hand to shake. "Orion Cayge at your service. If you don't mind helping, I could really use some help slapping this all together. There should be some carpentry tools back at the square if you wanna scamper down and grab them. A quick wiki crawl told me the carpentry system is a weird mix of gathering materials and a rhythm based minigame, we can work on refining the hell out of all the materials our lovely giantess brings us and then get crackin eh?"

Olga flexed her muscles again at Orion just because she could before she noticed the other two walking up. Holding hands. She squinted her eyes and made a mental note of their player names. She would definitely be looking those up later on; they sounded way too familiar and if her hunch was right, she was going to add a little more money to a secret office betting pool.
âOlga no measure or cut. Olga rip wood apart with bare hands,â she demonstrated by picking up a small chunk of log and doing exactly what she said she would, she ripped it in half. Who needs axes when the game has muscle sliders?
But she was ready to move on with this build. She needed a virtual drink. So Olga wandered off from the other three to continue ripping out nearby dead trees and added them to a pile. Let those nerds think and measure and play mini-game stuff. Olga was planning on setting up a pretty decent pile of wood. After all, anything they donât end up using would probably be taken by other players.

Peace's eyes lit up at the suggestion from orioncayge. "That's a great idea! A squeaky floorboard on purpose..." He laughed, eagerly taking the other's hand in a firm shake. A professional one, like he gave to people he met daily. Yet his smile was easygoing and eyes bright with a childish energy.
"I'm Ni-uh... Peace Maker! I'll help... hmm." Turning to watch Olga BanHammer as she continued to rip up the wood, he nodded some to himself. Walking over to Orion's pokemon, whom he smiled at, he gently sat down his Scorbunny next to them. "Can you guys help keep an eye on her? Abby is always really tired." The Scorbunny dropped over from her seated position, snoring and almost slumping onto Achilles.
That done, he waved to diva and walked over to the first tree that Olga had placed down. A pop-up appeared, a basic tutorial on how to build. After making a plan, which Orion had done, and gathering raw materials, which Olga had done, it looked like this would have two mini games. One to 'process' the raw materials into 'usable' ones, then another to actually build it.
Closing out of that and reaching out to touch the log, there was a flash and a round circle appeared around Peace. There were six spots to touch and a flurry of notes that came at him all at once. Peace was stunned, letting dozens float past him in a 'MISS' before he finally... tried. It went badly.
In the end, his flailing around only netted them three planks. So sad.

Peace Maker really needed to get his starter Pokemon checked by the bug team or something. With the way it was constantly falling asleep on him. But she wasn't about to say that out loud. It would give her away and there were more important things to do right now. Like deal with the fact that they were now going to help build this saloon or whatever it was. Why a Pokemon game needed a saloon she wasn't sure but she wasn't going to question it. That was part of the game. Building what they players wanted.
But of course she kept an easy eye on Peace as he attempted the rhythm game that didn't exactly seem like his thing. Of course it wouldn't be. She'd seen him try to play those silly rhythm phone games before that were extremely popular. But unfortunately, Diva was good at those games. With a resigned sigh she released the NidoranF that had just hatched, patting it on the head carefully to not hit the horn.
The pair stepped up to the mini game menu and Diva leaned down, giving the NidoranF a high-five for the 'pokepartner' bonus. She was going to need all of the help she could get with how long it had been since she'd done this. "Okay, leave it to me then." With a smile she started the mini-game, focusing on the incoming circles that needed to be hit at precisely the right place.
Her body moved in correlation to the correctly hit notes. A dancing mini-game that correlated with rhythm games. Of course. She needed to talk to the devs to find literally any other sort of mini game. But she didn't have time to think about that as she continued to move, a strange heel tapping dance that some how made planks appear quite quickly.

Orion's squad watched the sleeping scorbunny with a mix of delight and apprehension. On one hand, fire pokemon gang, on the other hand it was a girl who may or may not be in the egg group. They'd literally never met on of those before. Orion watched as the gang managed their work, Olga ripping tree after tree up from the ground and processing it, Peace who'd flunked his processing game and his...girlfriend? Diva who was living up to her name and crushing some sort of dancing mini game to lay planks down. Of course it was a dancing mini game, the devs seemed to have created one mini game and were milking it to hell and back. Given the asinine amount of features the game had, it was hard to disagree with the decision, he'd rather have one shit mini game to do over and over and lots of features than no features and a million shitty minigames.
It didn't help that Orion had some fucking moves.
He navigated a couple menus and cranked the difficulty to YES, cracked his knuckles, and went to work. He had, as the kids say, the moves like jagger. His heels clicked when needed to click, he could do the running man in the dirt with ease, and he shuffled side to side as if he were on a nice polished dance floor and not the middle of fucking nowhere. His leg was stanky, and his patch was cabbaged, and he was a tenured professor in teaching people how to Dougie. His soulja boy cranked, and he was setting of the richter scale in Harlem, and Cupid was shuffled to the left to the left to left to the left...
When he was done, he wiped the sweat and dust from his brow with his trust bandanna, looking up to process how much they'd managed to knock out he was surprised to find out he'd...
Made the stairs up to the porch he'd planned.
All that work, all that blood sweat and tears, for the equivalent of an opening sentence of an essay. He felt like spongebob spending all night scribbling and scrawling only to create a very fancy "The."

That was not a lot for a lot of work. If they didnât start to beef this thing up, it was going to take forever. Lucky for them, Olga was at least 93% beef. âOlga will crush game between thighs,â she grunted as her own mini-game popped up. But she wasnât about to attempt the dumb rhythm part. No, she knew that her bulky character was not exactly cut out to perform the fancy dancing that Diva and Orion showed. So she had a plan. Afterall, her policy while playing was âplay harder, not smarter.â Of course her version of harder was more like âpunch harder,â but the same principle applied. As the lights started to appear to show where her feet should be going, Olga moved a stack of logs over so the movement lights appeared on top of them. From there, Olga started to punch the logs in time with the flashing lights. A POWERFUL HIT! The next color lit up and another punch into the logs. EXCELLENT! Oh yeah, she had this under control. With a flurry of fists, Olga unleashed her strength on the logs. No need for fancy feet when you have fists made of steel. Splinters flew in all directions, bark went spinning off into the distance, the smell of sap strong in the air. COMBO! The sweat poured down her face and her knuckles felt raw, but she was not about to quit just because of a little bit of pain. She could take it. Olga let out a scream and raised both fists above her head before dropping them in one final blow. POWER OVERWHELMING! Olga straightened back up and placed her hands on her hips to admire her work. Before her on the ground was an entire wall. It was missing the details, like windows, but it was a full wall. Ha, take that. She knew she could bust out something cool. She turned to the others and nodded. âOlga punch so hard wall appeared.â |

While Olga BanHammer, orioncayge, and diva worked hard to build up this place, Peace cheered them on from the sidelines. Lots of cheering and clapping, a wide grin on his face, but it made him feel a little... useless, to say the least. That rhymn game just kept coming at him! He didn't understand it at all! Maybe there was something else he could do?
While Peace was no master of the menu he did know how to pull the tutorial section back up. Flipping through it, he quickly scrolled through the sections to see if there was anything else maybe they had looked over... No, it was all the same. But. In one of the pictures, the mini game was different? There wasn't any information there but maybe somewhere else?
Tucked at the bottom of the page was a little article on mini game accessibility options. While the game was VR, it was still trying to make it easy for all kinds of players no matter the skill level. One of those changes was that while rhythm games were usually the default, you could change them over to other games if you wanted! Variety was the spice of life!
Picking up one of the boards, Peace looked between the menu for instructions again and it in his hand. Twisting it around and pushing it forward, a simple motion, pulled up a whole scroll wheel. The names were incomprehensible to him so he selected one at random.
The plank turned into a basket and berries started to fall from the sky. Occasionally, one was rotted and would splat on the ground. The shadows would appear for a few seconds before they fell in. Stretching out, he caught one in the basket to test it. When the mini game stopped, a half of a plank sat there uselessly.
But now Peace had his answer.
"This is just like the Fruit Throw game from Princess Pangolin 3: Prickly Pinecone Prince!" A real favorite of his granddaughter. They played it together on his aging Wii every time she came to visit.
Starting the game over, soon Peace was dancing and twirling along the ground. Not one of the good fruits were missed while the bad berries splatted to make a mess everywhere. When Peace was done, he held the basket over his head and panted as he caught his breath.
Half of the whole building was now put together, decorations and everything. It was kind of weird to look at. One of the tables was in a perfect half. |

She wasn't surprised that Peace Maker managed to find a different way to complete the mini game. Though it seemed like @olga had also found an alternate way to complete it. Interesting. So the dancing mini-game wasn't the only thing they were stuck with. That was good to know. With a smile she gently patted him on the head again, just because she could. "You've worked really hard too." And had found a solution to the issue of all of them having to work harder and harder to complete the building. Between the all of them they seemed to have it halfway completed. A saloon would be an interesting addition to a children's game for sure. Though she hadn't really been sure if she'd met any actual children playing yet.
"We should make sure to take regular breaks as well." So that they wouldn't get overwhelmed and over worked. Especially Peace Maker.

Orion watched with eager eyes as their work inched itself closer and closer to completion. This team was doing amazing, each had managed in their own way to overcome the obstacles the game had presented on them. He paused in his cranking dat soulja boy, wiping beads of sweat from his brow as he took a deep breath filling his lungs with fresh air.
"Yeah, a break might be in order."
He dabbed some more sweat from himself. His hip flashed and his Dewpider Arachnae popped out of her ball, looking up at him.
"You thirsty boss?" She asked wiggling a bit.
"For...pokewater?" He asked.
"Well I mean..." She drawled. "It's...water."
"It's like pokepee." He replied, squatting down to get on her level.
"Nuh uh!"
"Uh huh."
Meanwhile, Ares, Achilles, and Hades were watching dutifully over a sleeping Scorbunny, having constructed a small nest for her to sleep on.
