"Yeah, lord of earth and fire," Big Bee said, holding the egg close. "Well I haven't really put him near the earth, aside from taking him underground to the Bedrock Shrine. Mainly fire I guess." He looked around, but there were no caves within sight, just the vast expanse of open steppe. "I haven't seen any geothermal anything since we were on Beta Island."
He followed Orion towards the spire, stopping at a bare patch of ground to grab some dirt and rub it on the egg. "That's better, right?" he asked the egg. "Or, well, it should probably be hot mud or molten rock or something."
"There better not be any more Yanmas," Big Bee said flatly. "Just the sound of them makes my head shudder. They're like a flying headache."

"I mean..." he motioned to the massive fuck off spire of Iron before them. "Tons of earthy metal shit right here. I wonder if we could like..." he rubbed his chin as he contemplated. "We could do some like...redneck engineering and run a copper line off here and use it to heat up some water? Like a hotub but...spicier?" He switched to rubbing his temples. "Or we could heat the water and then fill it with dirt and make like...one of those soothing sauna like mud baths? Real hot and muddy? Maybe the lil tike needs a spa day before he's ready to play."
He began to pace, and at the mention/threat of a looming Yanma attack he whipped out a pokeball and brought out Hades and Achilles, both of which did a big stretch as they emmerged.
"Ooh big stretch boys." Orion found himself instinctively saying.
"Oh shit!" Achilles quipped, his eyes darting to Bee. "It's the Bandana dude again!" "Hi Mr. Bandanna man!" Hades chirped, raising on both legs and waving his front arms.
"Keep an eye out for any danger boys..." Orion drawled. "Also, best way to hatch a groudon egg?"
"A what?!" They both replied looking confused. "Groudon doesn't hatch from an egg silly!" Hades continued. "And if you bought a groudon Egg, I have a bridge I'm looking to get rid of if you're interested" Achilles mewled.

"Yeah the physics engine here is pretty robust, so I bet we could boil up a mud bath!" Big Bee cradled the egg as he spoke and scratched a circle in a mostly bare patch of ground. "Like here maybe?"
"I mean, it is called 'Groudon Egg' in my inventory," he told Hades and Achilles. "That should be pretty conclusive, right? Now how do we connect it to the electricity. Do you have any steel types Orion?"
Deep in planning, Big Bee didn't even hear the whir of gears until they were pinching at his arm. "AHHH!" he screamed, as the metal bit into him. He leapt back, coming uncomfortably close to dropping the egg. "Jesus! Ah my goddamn arm!"
Big Bee's Oricorio swooped, wings aflame, and suddenly molten metal was splattering the ground. Some landed on the egg, sizzling like mercury. "The egg! Protect the egg!" big Bee called, stepping back as the battle heated up.

Perhaps it was the fact that the Bandanna dude had been injured.
Maybe it was the fact that this Klink had endangered their lord and saviour, Groudon.
Or maybe it was that he was a Steel Type which gave all three of his pokemon the chutzpa to go to town, but when Bee cried out, it was on like motherfucking Donkey Kong. Achilles let out a hiss and charged forward, tackling into the Klink with the force of a raging housecat. This created space for rest to do their work. Cyndiquil let out a mighty war cry and released a gout of flame towards the gears, hoping to melt them in one go. Ares let out a mighty squeal, like some sort of hellish boar before hitting him with a flamecharge. \
Orion for his part, dove towards Bee, yanking his own Bandanna and grabbing his buddy. "Shit Bee, you alright? It didn't break the skin or nothin did it?" He carefully dabbed at the Groudon egg trying to remove some of the molten metal, forgetting it was in fact molten metal and singing his own fingers. "FUCK."

Big Bee pulled off his bandana, dabbing at the metal. "Shh, shhh, it's fine. We're all good," he said, half to himself and half to the egg. As the molten metal soaked into his bandana, leaving dark splotches on the ruby shell.
The clan of fire types took charge of the battle. There was a WHOOSH as a column of flame ignited the poor Klink and Big Bee breathed a sigh of relief, anticipating victory.
"Thanks Orion, man. It broke the skin, but that'll heal when we hit up that shrine next." Big Bee wound his bandana around the tear. Now with blood and metal in the mix, his already colorful bandana was becoming a patchwork of war. "Your fingers okay though?"

AND THERE GOES THE BATTLE
Orion gingerly sucked on his burnt fingers, the taste of metal souring his mouth deepening the blur between reality and game. It was wild how real it felt, he was half worried it was going to be a persistent problem when he went to glove up for his next training session. He chuckled for a moment and shook his head.
"Nah man, nothing I've never felt before and nothing I can't deal with till we roll over to the shrine."
BOOM.
Ares and Hades lit the steely heretic up with the fury of hellfire as a large column erupted. The Klink was left yamcha posing in the dirt, zigzags over its eyes. Orion hit it with another fastball special, nailing it and causing it to disappear in a flash of red. He removed his injured hand and gave it a wave through the air, as if to cool it by running fresh over it.
"Hey, at least it wasn't a Yanma." a chuckle escaped his lips as he turned to the circle. "And now we have a steel type for our mudbath..."
Ares and Hades trotted back looking smug, and Orion gave em both an enthusiastic thumbs up with his uninjured hand. "Nice work you two!"

Big Bee grabbed his own Klink, copying the one that Orion had caught. There weren't too this time, so the duplication feature came in handy. "Oh Yanma aren't that bad," Big Bee said, looking over at where his own Yanma was zipping around across the plains. "I mean, I don't feel like fighting any more of them, but they evolve into a MASSIVE dragonfly. Have you seen a Yanmega before? Those things are jacked!"
Big Bee went back to planning. "Okay so first things first, a pit." Drilbur appeared next to him, and the shovel-armed mole set to work carving out a nice hole in the ground. "Greeeeeat! Yeah, that's the stuff," Big Bee said, as the hole widened into a fully fledged pit.
"Almost too easy. Now all we need is water and then we gotta hotwire the spa!" One water type later and the pool was ready. "Orion. You know how to hotwire this thing?"

Orion shot Bee a rather mischievous grin, and gave him a thumbs up. The process was complicated. First Orion fetched a pickaxe from his menu and performed the obligatory mining mini game, which for once DIDN'T involve dancing, instead it was something akin to Taiko no Tatsujin in which you smacked the rock in rhythm to the song. A few rounds of mining games later, he'd carved enough ore from the nearby spire in order to begin his work. He fetched a hammer from his menu and began the OTHER obligatory minigame that was a duplicate of the mining game, but this time the UI was a hammer hitting an anvil and not a pickaxe smacking a rock. A few songs later he had a coil of wire and tossed it to his Yanma.
"Wrap that around that jut over there..." he commanded the Yanma, which obediently coiled the makeshift wire around a small little spike poking out of the large metalic spire. As it did that, he casually placed four metal rods he constructed into the mud of pit. He gave each a light stomp to dig them into the dirt of the ground below, wedging them in place. When Yanma returned, he carefully coiled the line around each metal rod several times before attatching it to a smaller metal spike and embedding that into the ground.
"Alright, so here's the theory. Lighting strikes big pole, our line bootlegs some current from the spike to this ground here." he motions to the smaller spike. "When the current flows, it should heat the wire up, hot wire heats up rods." he motions to the rods. "Hot rods heat up the mud, which hopefully shouldn't be conductive. To be safe we should wait for the mud to heat up, then remove the line to prevent any more power surges, then place the egg." He squints, looking over his design once more. "I'm not an engineer, but the only point of failure I see here is the current being too much for our wire and causing it to uh..." he looks up to Bee and makes a kaboom sort of motion with his hands. "Explode."

As if summoned by Orion's words, a bolt of cyan lightning cracked against the metal spire. The current skittered downwards and split across the wires, making them all glow bright red and brining the muddy bath to a harsh boil.
"Yes!" Big Bee shouted, clutching the egg. "Hell yeah man! That was some precision engineering right there!" Boiling mud splattered the ground around him as he crept forward and plopped the egg into the pit. It rolled down the side, disappearing under the mud. The whole experience was strangely reminiscent of Big Bee's usually breakfast routine, and he found himself with an odd craving for bacon and buttered toast.
He stepped back, watching the boiling mud for signs of movement, but when nothing happened after a few moments, he turned to Orion. "Dude, I think we may have a slight problem. If the egg doesn't hatch then how are we supposed to get-"
Big Bee was interrupted by a tremendous crack from above. He looked up just in time to see the specter of brilliant blue electricity shoot down the spire. It forked along Orion's lines, melting the poles and wires to slush as the terrawatts of power arced into across the through the bath. "EGG!" Big Bee shouted, arm outstretched as the muddy bath EXPLODED in a geyser of burning mud.

"FUCK."
Orion dove to the dirt for the umpteempth time this day, tackling Bee forcing the two to cover, as molten mud sprayed into the air. In another life he would be screaming oil! Here he was screaming bloody murder. The wires popped and cracked, exploding into bits of molten shrapnel. His mud heaters sunk into slush beneath the roiling murk, and there chances of getting the egg? Probably really slim to none. Scalding bits of debris splattered down, cooled ever so slightly by nature of their particulate form falling through the air allowing thermodynamics to do it's thang.
Achilles and Hades were screaming in horror, running from the mess as fast as they could, Orion and Bee be damned.
When it was all said and done, which was rather quickly all things considered, Orion managed to pull himself to his feet and offered Bee a hand as well, surveying the carnage. The Mud pit was a smoking mess, and he couldn't quite peer into it. Achille and Hades were covering behind a large rock, twenty or so feet away. The back of his shirt and pants were splattered with scalding mud, but luckily his cowboy parapanalia was thick and kept most of the heat at bay. A couple splotches had landed on his hands and neck, leaving scorched skin behind.
"Well..." He narrowed his gaze at the crater. "Not to say I told you so but...I did say we should unhook the apparatus before we dunked the baby."

Big Bee was too shocked to even agree with Orion. Had he told him so? Probably. But the only thing that mattered now was his egg!
"Egg! You okay?" he called at the smoking pit of mud. "Are you okay?" Mud wasn't conductive of electricity right? Worst case it was just really hot, and that could only be good for Groudon, right? Hot earth. That was the essence of Groudon!
"Taka! Dammit, I mean, uh, Marsh!" Marshtomp appeared next to him, and under Big Bee's command he doused the boiling mud bath with cold water, turning it into a warm pond that seeped out of its hole and spread across the steppe. "Can you go and get it Marsh?" he asked.
"Marsh!" he answered helpfully, before wading forward. His wading slowed to a sticky, difficult slog, and then he stopped, confused. "Marsh?" The mud bath was drying rapidly, and as Marsh struggled to get free of the hardening mud, steaming cracks spread from the center of the pit.
The pit had been boiled, cooled, and now dried, and the heat of a long, harsh drought spread from the mud. This wasn't sauna heat. This was dry heat. Baking, crackling. The sort of heat that sucks the moisture from your mouth as you go to complain about how hot it is.
The mud crunched as a tiny, clawed, black and red hand burst up through the crust. Big Bee gasped. "My boy!"
He rushed forward, sweating heavily as he hauled the little basketball-sized Groudon up from its muddy hatching hole. He cradled the miniature legendary in his arms. Groudon scratched at the patches of dried mud that covered his body and Big Bee helped to brush them away. "We did it Orion! Isn't he beautiful!" Big Bee asked, turning to face the new legendary's godfather.

Orion watched with hesitant fear as they went about the operation of digging the lost Groudon Egg out. It was like watching a car crash, or an earthquake recovery zone, or some fucked up hybrid of both. It was like...like the miniaturized effects of a kaiju movie, and as Marsh waded into the er- marsh, he found himself holding his breath. Then came the heat, something he only knew too well. The type of dry summer heat that let you cook an egg on the sidewalk, that baked cookies in your trunk and killed toddlers if you left them in parked cars. It was suddenly burning up, and for a moment he couldn't quite figure out why. Then the claw punched out of the earth, and his heart skipped a beat.
Bee skipped forward, clawing the freshly born baby from the muck and mud, whilst Orion found himself staring dumbfounded. Their stupid add hillbilly engineering had made server fucking history. Groudon, the same voice that had filled his ears and lent him the strength to kick C0D13s ass was now here in the flesh. A little smaller than he was expecting, but he could barely judge the lil dude for that. HE let father and son have their moment, but when Bee turned to face him, he would have found a VERY emotional fighter. Holding back tears, Orion approached the two.
"He's so handsome! Aren't you, lil guy?" he gave the Ruby Lizard a boop on the snoop playfully before removing his bandanna, giving it a lick, and going to town on dabbing the mud from his face in a way that only a loving uncle would. "Though you're all messy from your bath, we need to get you cleaned up, yes we do." Suddenly, he felt very self conscious and looked up to Bee.
"I think, adventuring aside, we might need to get to the settlement and get this lil dude washed up and show him to the professor eh? I bet she'll lose her mind when we tell her we HATCHED a fu-" he paused, clearing his throat. "Freakin Groudon." A thought occured to him. "Have you come up with a name yet?"

Big Bee held the little legendary aloft, grinning as its brilliant red scales caught the light through the cracks in the drying mud. "Huh," Big Bee said, thinking hard. "The names usually just come to me. Like they feel natural, you know? I've never really named a legendary before."
Even in the games it usually felt weird to him. He just left the Pokemon named as they were. A fully grown legendary had a history, a story and mythos all to its own. It felt wrong to take that away. But for a baby? Maybe it was the right move to name it. Distance it from its legacy so it could build a new identity.
His arms started to ache. The baby was heavy, even if he was no bigger than a basketball. He kinda looked like a basketball too. "Huh. You know what? I think I've got a name, actually." He set down the Groudon and squatted next to him at the edge of the pit, patting his mud-covered head with one hand. "I'm going to name you after the greatest basketball movie of all time."
He looked over at Orion, Groudon's de facto Godfather. "Say hello to Jam."
