It’s humid.
It occurs to Tuesday that the environment of the Misty Timberland is perhaps supposed to be creepy, unsettling, and perhaps even spooky, but to her the mist the air just ends up being annoying. Another one of those ’it’s a feature, not a bug’ features. Who would ever think players would enjoy an excessively humid environment?
Then again, there’s something nice about how cold it is. About the scents of pine, damp soil, grass, fallen leaves, and so much more. It’s almost enjoyable to be able to walk through the fog without the annoyance of actually breathing it in… If it weren’t for the fact that it still makes it difficult to see her surroundings.
Tuesday makes note of all these things, and she finds herself appreciating the attention to detail.
<'I don’t like it.'>
Needless to say, Aesop isn’t nearly as appreciative.
"Why not?"
<'It’s wet.'>
Sparks shoot out of the Fennekin’s ears, but they’re immediately extinguished by the mist around it. Him. Around him. Last week, when looking at her starter’s stats, Tuesday had learned that apparently Aesop is actually a boy.
"Yeah, it sure is."

She hears it before she sees it, because how could she not hear it?
It interrupts her short conversation with Aesop: the quacking in the distance. Where is it coming from? Is that a pokémon? It sounds like it’s saying something, but she can’t tell exactly what from so far away. Good thing that it sounds as if it’s getting closer.
Or, maybe it’s not such a good thing…
<'YOU! I see you! Get away!'>
Tuesday can tell where the sound is coming from, but unlike the claims made by the pokémon, with all this fog around her, she can’t see shit. Not until it’s almost too late.
The executive decision to pick up Aesop is made, much to the Fennekin’s dismay. Just in time too, because despite the wild pokémon telling them to leave, she soon sees a blue duck running towards them. It doesn’t look very happy either.
"What the fuck."
In what could almost be called a signature move, Tuesday puts a foot on it to try keep it at bay, the sole of her boot leaving mud all over the poor Ducklett. It’s no wonder it starts shooting a WATER GUN at her.
"For fuck’s sake, Aesop! Use PSYBEAM or something."
At least she had spent enough time looking at the Fennekin’s information to know its moveset.

Aesop does not use PSYBEAM. Probably because he’s too preoccupied with suddenly getting picked up or with trying to get away from the water. The only thing stopping the angry little duck is Tuesday’s boot, and apparently that does a whole two damage. Great. Amazing. Wonderful.
Her socks are wet thanks to the incessant WATER GUN, and in this world there’s only a few feelings worse than wearing wet socks.
"Dude! Do something!"
<'Okay, okay!'>
Sparks shoot out of the Fennekin’s fluffy ears, and good thing Tuesday is a Kindler, or she’d be even more annoyed. But, there’s a PSYBEAM indeed, one that sends the bird bouncing back a couple of metres.

"WHAT. THE. FUCK."
From head to toe, Tuesday is soaked, which is pretty bad when in an environment that’s already damp and cold. They really don’t joke around when they say realistic pain threshold, huh? The Fennekin in her arms shivers, which is not that surprising when considering when the poor thing is a fire type.
<'Let’s just get out of here!'>
What happened to all of its confidence and pride?
"Hell no. Listen here, you little rat, you’re going to attack that thing and you’re going to beat it up, or I’m taking you to the shop and trading you for something actually useful."
<'I’m not a rat!'>
Apparently, threats sure work well as motivation, because they get Aesop annoyed enough to bite her so she lets go. The Fennekin gracefully falls to the ground, proceeding to try to to SCRATCH the angry duck. It probably won’t do much good, but surely the situation can’t get any worse, right?

Somewhere in this horrific situation, there’s something ironic about a golden fox named Aesop getting beat up by a duckling. Like something out of… well… One of Aesop’s fables.
Too bad Tuesday is too preoccupied with being angry, soaked, and cold to think about things like those.
The Ducklett’s water is merciless and takes out the Fennekin with deadly swiftness, leaving its trainer as the only target to the bird’s rage. It looks up at her, and although Tuesday claims to not be afraid of much, it's then that she takes a step back.
"....Shit."
Might have been a good idea to call out her Petilil, but instead the catgirl's instinctive response is to kick the blue duck.
Maybe this is karma.

Lucky had the fortunate power of walking into situations at the strangest of timings. Lucky sometimes called this phenomena a curse, as it was usually all but convenient for him. Take now, for instance-Lucky was just enjoying a stroll through the forest at evening's toll, waiting for night to fall so he could get into the game as he always did under the cover of dark. He spent these new early times in the Timberlands, as they always felt darker than they were before nightfall. He was taking this stroll with his trusted companion Omen, who also found a new love for this misty forest. "It's like I said, lass. Nothing's gonna up and ambush us out here. I don't think any Pokémon out here wants to fight..." His words timed perfectly with the scenery he walked straight into. What was happening out here? It seemed almost like someone had taken a wrong turn during their first wild battle. And now that malice-filled Ducklett, previously looming over the poor girl, was now looking over to him. "Wow. Is that a Ducklett or a Gooselett? What an aggressive little bleeder." Lucky was at a loss at the sight for a moment. The leaves of the foliage besides him rustled in the ominous wind, as if to ask him shall I take care of this, Master?"Nah, just relax. We've got to let the others get some action." Lucky tosses out his golden Pokeball, and from out of the depths of storage came his Skorupi, once more bearing his signature glorious hat. It was grand and wonderful enough to catch the attention of that Ducklett right up. "Oi, lass! Get out of here if you're not gonna do anything! Hurry!" He calls, as if to spur Tuesday into either fight or flight right then. The two tiny terrors of unevolved Pokemon began to clash, and Lucky wasn't sure if they were even using moves yet. They were just sort of slapping each-other.

They say that everyone wants to be a hero, and when playing an MMO, that’s probably true for most people. Tuesday’s hero of the day does not wear shiny armour, but he does have a scorpion-thing that wears a funny hat, so that’s a great trade-off right there… except for the fact that the scorpion-thing seems to be as ineffective in taking down this angry duck as her Fennekin had been. Seriously, what is this duck made of?!
"Oi, lass! Get out of here if you're not gonna do anything! Hurry!" Cold and dripping onto the already muddy forest floor, Tuesday stares at the guy with her mismatched eyes, as if weighing her options for a moment there. She could just leave him to deal with the raging beast and she wouldn’t feel bad at all, but honestly, this stupid duck had pissed her off.
"Oh! Sure, yeah, no problem. I got this!"
Does she?
Out from her pokéball comes a Petilil, and the poor thing shivers when looking at her surroundings. Tuesday sighs, staring down at it and pointing at the Ducklett. ”Can you shoot some leaves at it?”
Surely MAGICAL LEAF will do something, no?
Shaking the top of her head, the Petilil releases leaves that shoot out towards the Ducklett.

"Aye, there you go! Keep someone out of the ball at all times. Don't let yourself open!" Lucky's words were some form of encouraging, like he was there to help the girl train instead of actually trying to defeat the Ducklett himself. He was relaxing, giving few orders to the great and noodle-y Skorupi who lightly slapped the opposing Pokémon from time to time.
But Serket was not the kind of Pokemon to wait around forever. The Petilil's Magical Leaf struck the wild Ducklett and threw him off of his unflappable stride. It was in that moment that the Skorupi's lust for violence shone through once more. A terrible, wordless screech erupted from the little insect at she leapt towards the Ducklett, volleys of POISON STING lashing out from her tail!
For the most part, they missed. What an embarrassing moment.
"Girl, you've got to focus on aiming. Do it like the Petilil! C'mon!"

Honestly, considering her experiences in the game so far, that’s some helpful advice right there. Her Fennekin hasn’t proven himself to be all that great at protecting her so far, but at least he tries, right? There was an attempt. Tuesday would put a gold star sticker on him if she had one, mostly because she has a feeling the fox would hate that.
Her Petilil, on the other hand…
That one clearly craves validation, because she looks all too pleased when Lucky Guy implies she’s doing a good job. Tuesday herself doesn’t bother with saying as much, instead being more preoccupied with watching the little scorpion release some noxious liquid. Damn, that’s cool. It barely hits the target, sure, but it is cool. If only her pokémon could do things like those.
Petilil can’t, but what she can do is cover the Ducklett in spores while attacking it.
"Hey. Are pokémon this small usually this hard to deal with?"
Tuesday is not one to ask questions of the sort all that often, but this is getting rather ridiculous, isn't it?

Then, from out of the weeds, a Deerling charges forward. Head down, it laughs in jubilant glee as it Tackles the Ducklett. The Ducklett is sent flying, but if it actually has any sort of effect will need to be seen. Regardless, the Deerling hops around and laughs, clearly having a damn good time.
< Got it, got it, got it, got it!~ > Sing songed. On the other two Trainer's screens, they might see the Auto Party feature activate, a curse, as Furrlicity steps onto the scene.
He looks between the Ducklett, his pokemon, and the two trainers and their pokemon. He'd seen the two familiar faces pop up on his mini map and figured a quick detour was in order. Always nice to socialize and all that. Now he just looks concerned. Furrlicity had been watching the last few rounds from the sideline like a creeper before deciding to step in and assist.
"They're not." Sure, he'd had a little trouble with the Jigglypuff he found, but it was mostly because he wasn't prepared for Status effects. Nodding to Tuesday, he tilts his head. "You upgraded your 'Tall Grass HP' any?"

"Yeah, I gotta say it feels like this guy's equipped the tank tree-" "Oh. Welp!" Lucky turns over and quickly sprints to his Skorupi. The little bugger was screeching in fury at the Deerling who clearly stole her glory. Lucky had anticipated this ahead of time, and snatched the little scorpion straight out of the air just as it tried to leap at the Deerling with what would likely have been another inaccurate attack. "Alright, bud, time to chill out. You're right ossified right now, don't blame other people just 'cause you can't bloody aim. Go on then, back in the ball. Git." Serket indeed retreated back to the comfortable confines of her home after receiving a reproachful bonk on the head via the golden Pokéball in Lucky's hand. A quiet sigh escaped him at the effort he had to put in just to make the little girl behave sometimes. His gaze turned over to his friend Furrlicity Purrfection , as well as the other cat that stood in the grove. Cat people really were a trend, huh... "Aye, thanks for the assist. That was going a bit thin, I gotta say... I'm surprised I keep running into you at all the right times! You run on European hours, too, or do you just like to see me enough to bump in once in a while?" His words were accentuated by the fancy spins he made with the Pokéball at his fingertips. Lucky had been practicing this, clearly...

Damn, talk about unexpected.
Just as Tuesday becomes 82% sure that this damn duck is going to down another one of her pokémon and then chase her to the very edge of the Misty Timberland, a Deerling appears from amongst the fog, dealing with the semi-aquatic beast in one fell swoop.
It’s then that the familiar voice of Furrlicity Purrfection confirms her doubts just as Lucky Guy does too: there had definitely been something wrong with this Ducklett. Like it had the strength of three ducks or something!
”Weird. Who would have thought a duck could be that strong, huh?” She chuckles, trying to ignore the fact that she’s soaked and freezing cold. That burning tree shrine in Birchwild Grove sure sounds like a nice place to visit right about now. And, just as she has that thought, the question regarding her “Tall Grass HP” catches her off-guard.
There’s an urge to say ”What’s that?”, but of course Tuesday would never admit to such lack of knowledge! She looks at Furrlicity Purrfection, blinks, and then opens her mouth in a perfect “o”. ”Oh! Yeah, I totally meant to do that. Thanks for the reminder!”
Then, her head tilts, cat ears twitching.
”Thank you both for the help, by the way! I’m Tuesday.” She smiles, introducing herself to the one she’s not acquainted with just yet.

A small snort and grin as he watches the Skorupi. Furrlicity doesn't know if his pokemon would win but he wouldn't have said 'no' to a friendly scrap. The Deerling had a big head that needed to be taken down a few notches in his opinion.
He just shrugs at Lucky Guy's question. There is the temptation to be a smart-ass but he likes Lucky. The guy has been nice in all the times they've met, so he doesn't see a reason to be a needless dick. Honest answer it is. "Guess so? Irish Standard Time. I also don't sleep well." Which was maybe a little over-sharing. His character model did always look fucking exhausted though. A true reflection of who he was deep inside.
A brow is raised at Tuesday. Furrlicity doesn't believe her but doesn't call her on it. Taking out his golden pokeball, he tosses at the fallen Ducklett. Sadly, with far less pizazz than Lucky had.
"I'm headed over towards the Birchwild if either of you want to go with." Usually he liked to stay by himself when he explored but he was feeling social. "I want to know what the hell spawns out there that we haven't seen."
