Kazuki enters the tent looking freshly beat-to-shit, covered head to toe in dirt and sporting a mosaic of welts and scratches. He has evidently arrived straight from training and getting repeatedly bulldozed by a Godzilla mini.
“Scrapyard delivery!” He grins, sauntering up to the professor’s desk and unceremoniously dropping four pokeballs onto it, many of them bouncing and one clacking onto the professor’s keyboard. “There’s uh, the fucked up little magnet who wrecks my ears, two of those weird cogs, and the kiosk dino. Probably enough for an arm.”
He looks around with restless energy. The tent is still a strange set-up for a lab, but since he began the game in this state, he doesn’t know what else to expect. Although—“So, where’s the gundams?”
A pair of brown rabbit ears stick up behind his ankles, Tepig waddling out of his shadow to say: <Not what you were supposed to ask.> He’d been briefed on some of his trainer’s adventures on the way there, as a motivation to continue training after an admittedly underwhelming session.
“Ah, right.” There’s now a barren spot where The Giant Shrine used to stand. The disappearance of a monument should be first priority, but he’d been under the impression wack shit happening is just mundanity in this game. Plus, he wanted to lump the chores together so he could get straight to punching things.
“Prof, did you see what happened to the shrine?” He gestures vaguely in its direction, or where it’s supposed to be. “With the big bird, and the lights show. Well, the bird’s actually some prissy fucker called The Prince. We found him buckass naked out in the wilds.”
His face tightens a bit, eyes squinting. “We may have made him some ling- armor. And turned him into the bird. That doesn’t make us liable, does it?”

It has been some time since Tuesday last checked in with Professor Ash, yet once again here she stands: outside the professor's tent, her stance firm and her arms crossed over her chest. "Hmm..." What is she waiting for? What is she thinking about? Why is she hesitating? No one at camp would ever understand why the short Alchemist frowns the way she does, but to her right, a Braixen perfectly immitates this pose of hers — right down to the frown. <'Hmmm...'><'What? What happened?'> A confused Eevee asks, standing to Tuesday's left, and in doing so she earns herself a sigh on part of her trainer. "Alright, let's go." With no time to waste, she steps forward and into the tent, her previous contemplative expression being replaced by a smile that radiates the same usual confidence. "Ash! I got some more Steel types for you."Out of one of her dress' pockets they come: three Pokéballs, labelled as the ones she had brought last time had too. Klink, Klink, and Duraludon."You remember my Eevee, right?" The question is asked while placing the Pokéball's on one of the desks in the tent, but Tuesday already knows the answer: of course Ash knows the Eevee, it's the same one she had brought before and which the professor herself had given to her. The Eevee in question looks up at Ash and wags her fluffy tail. "I decided to name her Cid after El Cantar del Mio Cid... and Sid Vicious, I guess. I was going to take her to the Giant Shrine to evolve her into a Jolteon but now that's gone. Which is seriously inconvenient since I've been avoiding the Precipice Shrine after that whole invitation thing turned into a mess—"A pause. It's Tuesday that stares at the professor this time, brow furrowed. "Do you know anything about that, by the way? I mean... mostly the Giant Shrine disappearing, although I think they're both connected in some way."Tuesday gives the professor two klinks and a duraludon

Generally speaking, Muin is of the mentality of only catching Pokémon he likes and that fit well with his carefully planned themes. Out of the six currently in his box, two sadly don't quite meet these criteria of his. So... It's up to him himself to find them good homes, no? He hasn't been all that lucky with doing so for the WishiWashi he had received as reward during the Valentine's Hookup event, but the Duraludon he had caught recently is a different matter entirely. The answer had been given to him the moment he caught the Pokémon, by the same person who had helped him bring it down. Apparently, this is some sort of side quest or something? From what Muin has gathered, it will probably be connected to Asper's larger storyline, and that part sounds interesting. What is the professor researching? Why does she need Steel types? Such are the questions he's here to ask. Truth be told, he had forgotten all about the Byte reward. "Good morning, professor." Despite his ever so stoic appearance and emotionless tone, Muin never fails to be polite. He looks at Ash when entering the tent, making sure not to intrude. "I hope I'm not interrupting your work. I have a Duraludon for you."Ever one for efficiency, Muin doesn't waste any time in producing the Pokéball. Granted, it also helps that despite his interest in Ash's work, he'd still rather keep interactions as short as possible (nothing against the professor, he's like that with most people). Still, he can't help but ask the question, a glimmer of curiosity shinning in those cold amethyst eyes of his: "May I ask what you're working on?"Muin GIVES THE PROFESSOR A DURALUDON

Verai ducked into the tent, a few stray fingers of static quieting and dissolving as he stepped in from the storm outside. Tama kept close to his leg, the meowth looking bushier than usual as he watched the entrance flap.
"Professor Ash... Kazuki," He greeted, a touch more kindly to the first than the second. "It occurred to me that we never spoke after the incident at the shrine."
Judging from Kazuki's expression, the other man had already offered something of an explanation. What that was... Verai couldn't fathom a guess.
"While exploring the edge of the Surge Steppes, I came across a fallen man. He was terribly injured, to the point where I worried he would not live. He was nude, and his arms had metal shackles, and long lengths of chain. There was no sign of where he'd come from, or who imprisoned him." Verai spoke cleanly, as if reading a written report.
"Kazuki, and a young girl, Aero, quickly arrived, and our pokemon worked together to heal him. We gave him food and water, and some cloth with which to keep warm. He identified himself only as 'the Prince.'" Verai shook his head. "He insisted on being made armor, and taken to the nearby Shrine. He was going whether or not we aided him, so the three of us assisted him forward. Together, we were able to..." His gaze slid to Kazuki, and then flicked away, focused on the side wall of the tent. "... craft him some armor."
"Once he'd donned it, and we approached, the Shrine reacted strangely. The birds were unable to fly, and the earth-bound creatures- like Kazuki's mudbray- were all floating. They all moved to attack the Prince."
Now... for the strange part. Verai frowned, trying to figure out how to make this... believable. "The Prince had grown a pair of massive, obsidian wings, and used them to keep the attacking pokemon at bay. He then... rose, turned into some yellow, sparking bird, and... pulled the Shrine out of the ground, and left. Which is when you showed up."
"I trust Kazuki said something to that effect?" The tone of his voice suggested trust otherwise.

"Just a moment," Ash tries to say, swiveling in her chair, but Kazuki is already dropping his haul all over her desk. It was a pity Pokeballs had to be spherical— there was always the chance of some rare Pokemon simply rolling away like a stray tennis ball when she wasn't looking.
Kazuki is less hostile than the last time they interacted, but his change in demeanor brings with it new questions. "How do you—" Ash starts, then sighs, seeming to catch herself. She smooths a lock of silver hair back over one ear. "There are no gundams here, Kazuki."
She listens to Kazuki's story, brows raising here and there. "Long armor," she repeats dubiously. "The 'bird'— are you referring to Zapdos?"
With her current information, it's impossible for Ash to make sense of your story, but she does her best. "...As a matter of fact, I did see what happened. I was studying the Giant Shrine before it was taken— there had been some unusual changes in its magnetic field before it disappeared."
Ash taps her chin with her pen. "Perhaps 'disappeared' is the wrong word. I have a reading on the Giant Shrine now— it's mobile, somewhere in the lower stratosphere. Not that this information is helpful to anyone, but technically it may still be possible to recover it."
She sorts the steel-type Pokemon into their compartments while she thinks, considering the other information Kazuki has brought her. "You had direct contact with a Legendary Pokemon," she says slowly, but before she can question the man further Verai enters the tent, offering additional information.
His story is far more lucid, and Ash listens intently, taking notes on her small pad. When the story is done she takes a moment to put together the pieces in a way that makes sense. "So you crafted this 'Prince' long armor. And then he approached the Giant Shrine, which caused a magnetic disturbance." She nods, casting a quick glance over to some charts on her wall. "That explains the readings I picked up." One question answered, but many more raised.
"And you're saying that this Prince transformed into Zapdos?" It was unprecedented, but in science that really just means 'unobserved previously'. "There are factual accounts of Pokemon masquerading as humans in the past. Most predominantly Zorua, Ditto, and powerful psychic types. I've never heard of an electric type doing such a thing." She taps her pen on her page of notes.
"You said that Zapdos spoke to you in a human form. What else did he say?"
250 BYTES for Kazuki PROCESSED
50 BYTES for Verai PROCESSED As Tuesday enters the lab she is backed by a gust of stormy wind. It's crisp and wet, a remnant of the rain elsewhere on the Steppes. "Hello, Tuesday," Ash says as the catgirl enters. She's deep in her research and seems a bit absentminded as she turns towards you. How long has it been? With all the excitement at the Giant Shrine, it's hard to remember. "Your Eevee... yes, I recall offering some questions to help you ascertain the most suitable name. I hope it proved useful." Ash was no expert on naming conventions— her own Pokemon were unnamed— so she had defaulted to her usual method of determining an outcome: personality quiz.
Professor Ash does not appear to show any interest in discussing the Precipice Shrine.
But when you bring up the Giant Shrine, she has plenty to discuss with you. "I wouldn't say missing, Tuesday. I'm not in the habit of losing any samples, let along a piece of metal the size of a skyscraper." Ash's eyes slide over to a growing pile of paperclipped memos on her desk in a tray labelled 'GIANT SHRINE', "In fact I am well aware of its current location." Her eyes slide back to you. Slate gray and full of excitement.
She brings up her holographic map. The blue sphere blooms from her desk like a neon lotus, filling the workspace with tinted light. With a single finger she spins the globe and zooms in on a familiar section of Asper: the Surge Steppes. As the sectioned map grows larger, the topography comes into focus. Large patches of open plain studded with frantic collections of rings to indicate the spikes in altitude. There are blinking dots, custom markers, on the map too. They track vaguely East to West, and are timestamped from today. "This shows the movements of the shrine in the last twenty-four hours. All readings show it to be between 4,300 and 4,900 meters above the Steppes."
Ash taps another section of the map, the view of the steppes is overlaid with meteorological readings. A cloud of black and red smothers the blinking dots, moving East to West in perfect synchronicity with the location of the high-altitude shrine. Ash lets the cycle repeat a few times. "Keep an eye out for any unexpected weather patterns, and let me know if you see any unusual thunderstorms."
200 BYTES PROCESSED The Duraludon from Muin is gratefully received. Professor Ash is currently running a program on her computer in the background. It stays frozen on an error: unsafe levels of Corruption. simulation terminated message on the screen behind her as she finishes sorting out Muin's BYTE reward.
At his question Ash sighs, sitting back in her chair. She seems exhausted. "Too many things," she says. "I've been monitoring the Corruption levels in Mistra to see if it would abate over time, opening up room for potential human habitation. But the levels are still too high— any fluctuation seems mostly circumstantial at this stage."
Sensing a fellow academic, Ash fills in some backstory. "When we first came to UNOVR, I'd hoped forward progress would be as simple as it was after Beta Island. You weren't with us at the time, Muin, but it seemed fairly straightforward. Once both shrines on Beta Island activated, the combination triggered a surge of power that drove back the Corruption over Asper. I believed it was that simple."
She closes out of the frozen simulation, shaking her head."My readings show that all three Asper shrines are now fully active. I can only assume some final step is needed— but with the Giant Shrine missing, how are we to find out what? It's frustrating, to say the least. And unprecedented."
Research only worked as long as someone else had similar experience. In this, Ash— and all of UNOVR— are alone.

Verai staggered into the tent, looking worse for wear. Static still clung to him, and he opted to simply loiter by the door. His hair was wispy from the shock, and he thought it better to not approach Ash, or any of her equipment, or objects, or anything.
So it was Kitten, still clad in her little armor, who hopped up onto Ash's desk, brandishing the little pokeball in her mouth. This was offered to the Professor with bright eyes, and a hearty "Mrrreehhh!!"
"These were still things you were collecting for your research?" Verai asked, running fingers through his hair in an attempt to tame it, and sparking himself again for his efforts.

"Prof, have you ever had donuts?" This is, in fact, exactly how Domino greets Professor Ash when entering her tent in the Surging Steppes, box of the aforementioned donuts in hand. "I was planning on coming to the Steppes anyway, so I figured I'd bring you some." She explains with a smirk, setting the box down on a table that doesn't look too full of... research. Oh, Ash, always hard at work! So inspirational! Speaking of... "Oh, and also this!" From a pocket in her jacket, she produces a Pokéball. "Magnemite. Still need those, right? How's the project going?"And so, she sits, fully intending to eat a funfetti down while chatting with the professor. Domino gives the professor a Magnemite

The conversation progresses—excruciatingly. With Kazuki’s half-assed explanation, there’s really no wonder why Ash struggles to put together the pieces and it’s a herculean feat in of itself to try and make sense out of the drivel, but Kazuki’s attention has already dropped by several points upon being informed that there weren’t any gundams to behold.
To his and Ash’s relief however, Verai walks in with a puffball in tow. Kazuki’s grin returns, wider this time, and far less friendly. He’s spared from having to proofread his statement by letting the other man monologue the entire experience. He laughs when Verai glares at him while describing their little crafting session.
At the end of the impressive monologue, Kazuki throws his arm over Verai’s shoulder, moving to pull him up to his side as he sneers. “Oh, absolutely. I was serenading the Prof with all the details. No, you nerd.”
Alright, now he’s paying attention. Professor Ash compiles what they’ve said, clarifying some things about the mysterious pokemon known as Zapdos—an apparently Legendary pokemon, which meant they really should’ve made use of those chains when they could.
“Hmm… beyond the demands? The Prince wasn’t really that chatty.” Kazuki rubs his chin. He supposes there were a few things off, though. “He did act like he wasn’t much of a human. Said ‘this body is too weak’ before he demanded our stuff. And when he told us he planned on going to the Shrine, he mentioned being ‘away from these lands for too long’.”
He chuckles. “And then he called our armor ‘something worth wearing’. It wasn’t long armor, by the way. It was called ‘Armor of the Sky’.” Ah, well, since he was already this far in. “And it looked like lingerie.”
Having implanted that image, Kazuki moves on to a few more curiosities. “Shit, back up, you said the Shrine is still up there? I figured the bird would’ve put it down somewhere already.” He had taken his sweet time coming here, after all. Maybe they could still catch up, though it’s a wonder what Kazuki intended to do with a bird that made the Giant Shrine look like a children’s toy.
Meanwhile, a stray pokeball rolls out from under Professor Ash's table, having been lost in the haphazard delivery of Kazuki's haul. It glints innocently despite housing a terrible beast.

“Good afternoon, Professor.” It had been quite some time indeed since Taylor had seen Ash - hell, not since she’d first launched the game and received her starter a few weeks back! Now, thanks to some stubbornly optimistic exploration of the Steppes and conveniently timed help from a friendly stranger, she had a pair of Klink to offer the NPC.
“I heard you were looking for certain steel types,” she ventured, gently smoothing her hand over Mumble’s head as the Piplup leaned into her leg. “Are you still in need of more? I have a couple of Klink here, if so.” Her voice was hopeful - she sincerely hoped she hadn’t run out of time to get involved in this side quest! As she spoke, Mumble lifted a flipper to wave happily and cluelessly to the professor.

Verai made his way to Ash's tent. Kitten led the way, jangling as she went, chirping at the professor as she hopped inside. Verai... took his time, slowly making his way up to the desk, and gently setting down the dusty pokeball. "Kazuki said this was a- duraludon?" He asked, slowly feeling out the name. "He said you were using these, too, for your studies. I... apologize if either of those are not the case."
Kitten just wiggled. <Yeah! He was big and shiny and he went ROOOARGH but Kazuki hit him really hard with his hands and Purrai got him like BZZTK with his sword and->

They must have first met at some point long ago; when Yuze first received his starter Pokémon. It's what she assumes, at least, but she has no way to know for sure — the account had come to her possession long after all that had taken place So, in a way, this is Yuze's first time meeting Professor Ash, and when he steps into the tent that is her field laboratory, his first impression of the researcher is that she definitely seems much more put together than Bunya (even if Yuze does dig Bunya's vibe). "Professor." He simply says, his gaze wandering over the equipment around them when placing the Duraludon's Pokéball on a table. Then, he looks at her. "If you don't mind, I wanted to ask you something. Corruption... What do you think it is, exactly? Surely if we understand its origin, it might be easier to find a way to counter it, no?"Or perhaps a way to use it as an advantage.Yuze gives the professor a DURALUDON

"So, I've been thinking about our dilemma with the shrine being up in the sky—" Tuesday begins when stepping into the professor's tent, sure that she's more than capable of listening while continuing with her work. She's sure that if Ash needs to, she'll pause what she's doing, but for now the Alchemist takes a seat and gets all too comfortable. "Sounds to me like the logical next step is to try bring it back down, no? Like... don't the Steppes need their shrine?" All of Asper might need it, as far as Tuesday is aware. Shrines seem to be much more important than mere places of worship. Otherwise, why would Zapdos steal his? Why would Moltres call hers her home? Why would the Precipice have become the gate to the Dream World? "I'm surprised it hasn't come down already, given all the gravitational surges in the area... I'm not exactly a scientist, but could those maybe be replicated? Enhanced? What about like... magnetism? Maybe a giant magnet could bring that big chunk of metal down. Bet you sure have enough Magnemite to build one by now, huh?"That last part is a joke, obviously, as Tuesday makes clear with a laugh. It does, however, remind her of her original reason to be here. "Speaking of which, brought you another, along with three Klink and a Duraludon. It's been really stormy out there, just like you said, but at least it's good for training my Pokémon."With that, she delivers the boons of her hunt, all in labelled Pokéballs just as the previous ones. Domino
"Donuts. Yes," says Ash slowly, "I believe I have."
A strange expression crosses her face for a moment as the Professor searches her memories for the experience. Context tells her it's a common food, so the likelihood is high she would have tried it. No one has ever specifically brought her donuts to go with her coffee before, but she knows they go well together.
It's a little like asking Ash if she's ever worn a dress— she remembers she has, but that memory itself is nowhere to be found.
"I'll put on a pot of coffee," she decides, shaking off her momentary pensiveness and accepting the Magnemite. "Much appreciated. Thank you, Domino."
50 BYTES PROCESSED ON 5/7 Kazuki
Ash patiently takes notes about the pieces you remember, though you see her pen stop for a moment at the word 'lingerie' before she wearily writes it down. "I can't say whether Zapdos is still carrying the shrine or if there's some other explanation for why it's still floating— before the event you witnessed, there were some strange anomalies all across the Steppes regarding the local spires. Perhaps a similar phenomenon has affected the Giant Shrine."
Something bumps against her ankle and she stoops down to retrieve it. "Ah, excellent! Another Duraludon. Well done, Kazuki." She doles out another portion of her research grant and forwards it to your account.

"Certainly!" Ash seizes on your offer immediately, swiveling in her chair. "Klink are particularly valuable due to their ability to "link" together. I'm not the engineer, but System Admin:Cygnus swears by their properties of interconnectivity."
While she's forwarding the BYTES to your account, Ash stops to observe the waving Mumble. "Your Piplup seems in good health, I see," she says, amused. "You've trained it well."
100 BYTES PROCESSED Verai
Ash looks up when Verai enters, eyes flicking to the Litten beside him. She does not comment on the illegal Pokemon— she's the one who gave it to Verai in the first place, after all— but she discreetly closes the tent flap behind the white-haired man in case of watchful eyes. The townsfolk would not respond well to hearing their regional Professor was occupied in black market trade.
"I am," she says, confirming what Kazuki had told Verai. "You worked together to take it down? Good idea. They can be quite dangerous." Though having a fire-type starter must have helped.
Ash collects the steel-type with a small smile, giving Verai his BYTE reward. "I reviewed my notes, and I had one more question about what you and Kazuki told me the other day," she says evenly. "How did you know the name of the armor you created? Did Zapdos tell you?" She does not question how it was possible to forge a suit of armor— she assumes all trainers are highly trained and capable— but she seems to hone in on this detail.
100 BYTES PROCESSED Yuze
"Hello, Yuze," Ash says when the man steps into her tent. She does not appear to notice any difference in his demeanor, though his new, sudden interest in the topic of Corruption makes her frown.
Over the past year in Asper, many trainers have asked her a similar question, and her original theories and speculation have been largely simplified by this point. "I believe Corruption is a supernatural phenomenon similar to a curse, though some of my colleagues would liken it more closely to a disease. It is extremely dangerous," she says sharply, perhaps suspecting you might be considering a trip across the border into Mistra. "There is a chemical combination proven to work effectively in combatting its effects— Germanium, Americium, and Yttrium, I believe. You may wish to speak to the Mythstar guild leader, System Admin:Cygnus, for his thoughts on the topic, as he spent some time exploring the Corruption Zone. Though..." Ash hesitates. "Well. If you meet him, I suppose you'll see."
100 BYTES PROCESSED Tuesday
"While I wouldn't say the Steppes need the shrine, it's certainly convenient for all of us humans." Her lips quirk slightly. "This goes without mentioning the problem in Mistra. I believe all three shrines need to be active and present to clear the Corruption. Expansion of our regional survey depends on it."
Ash does not say 'Bingo' at Tuesday's suggestion, but she gives you a direct nod that indicates you're right on the mark. "Remarkably astute, Tuesday," she says with a small smile. "That's precisely what I've been working on— at least as of late. My original plans for the magnetic rail were for practical reasons, but I'm hoping to reshape them precisely for this purpose."
She stands up, stretching, massaging her tired wrists. "With all the Duraludon, Magnemite, and Klink we've gathered, I believe we should be able to power an electromagnetic device— no, a structure— with the size, intensity, and stability required to bring the Giant Shrine back to the Steppes."
Of course, she imagined Zapdos would not be happy.
Making an enemy of a Legendary Pokemon is perhaps not how Professor Ash wanted the survey team's time in Asper to end, but one way or another, the end is on its way.

It had been a while since Big Bee had dropped in to see Ash. In fact, he hadn't seen her at all since she'd relocated to the Steppes! "How's it going Ash! It looks like you're thriving out here. I'm a big fan of camping myself but this tent is wild." He looked around as subtly as possible. He'd heard rumors of a Gundam in the works, but he hadn't seen one outside. There was no evidence of one inside the lab either.
At least not yet.
"Caught this little guy out near one of the spires before they all shot off into the sky," he said, depositing a Klink on the table. "I'm sure it'll be more use to you than me. Hey, you let me know if you need Yanma, okay? The whole area is thick with them."

The trade is simple, BYTES pressed into his palm. He slipped them into his bag, where they will simply exist as a concept until he reaches for them- a process of the game that is confusing, and gives him a headache.
Her question is bright, piercing. And in truth- he should not know. No one spoke the name, outside of modal pop-ups. And yet, he and Kazuki knew the name clearly.
Was he meant to lie to the professor? She would have no way of knowing whether or not the Prince spoke it-
"I... worry I can't tell you," He admitted. "The three of us worked together, forging it with material from the Steppes, and Kazuki and I offered it a prayer, for strength and protection. Once it was finished... I simply knew what it was." Perhaps not the full truth, but the majority of it.
"... there's something else. After the Prince left, He... " Verai raised his hand- sparks playing between his fingers. "I think He gave us His blessing, but I don't know anything about it." He'd left far too quickly to explain. "Have... you heard of anything similar?" Unable to gauge her face for a reaction, Verai had to simply hope he was not treading towards something more dangerous.
