Jam toddled across the pitch-black court, his tiny footsteps shaking the ground as he prepared for the big jump. He held the basketball in both hands, a clear violation of the traditional rules, but given he wasn't much bigger than the ball himself it couldn't be helped.
"And here comes Jam!" Big Bee shouted, fake announcing the moves of his new son. "Twenty-four inches of primordial power! Can anyone stop him?"
The Gothita umpires had set up a little ramp at the end of the court, right underneath the net, and Jam approached it at a rather middling speed. "Here he comes! Up! Up! Annnnd!"
Jam leapt off the ramp, gaining all of another six inches of air and falling to the ground in a heap. The ball popped under him with a bang.
"You almost had it that time!" lied Big Bee, rushing over and helping up the baby Groudon. "That was a great jump bud. And you've almost stopped dribbling!" Big Bee wiped away the spit on Jam's chunky jaw with a fireproof rag. "Just a little higher next time, yeah? We've gotta work out those leg muscles, haha. Let's go again, okay?" Big Bee flashed Jam a big thumbs up and his most encouraging smile.
Jam grumbled, nodded, and toddled back to the starting spot on the far side of the court.

"Ayo pass me the rock." Loki growled, downing the last little bit of their iced coffee and tossing the bottle to the side. Orion would raise an eyebrow at them, but the punch weasel would simply reply with a "gimme gimme" motion with their fingers, and the fighter would reluctantly pass the ball with a satisfying THWUMP of psuedo leather on blacktop. The weasel would struggle to catch it with all the force he'd sent along with it, but then would grin. "Comeon! I'm a shoe in for this! With the power of Dunkin on my side, I should have no problem dunkin!" The fighter's eyes would shoot over to the brand tie in sponsored coffee stand, Dunkin Donuts. How they'd managed to weasel their way into this game he'd had no clue, but the tagline "Briarbane and their dunkers run on Dunkin" brought a slight smile to his lips as he raised his iced coffee to his lips and watched Loki warm up.
The whole squad was out an about, Incineroar was currently doing lines (the drill not the drug), Hades was stretching in some strange yoga poses while Ares was busy posing for the pokerapsi with his sick J's. Everyone was dripped to the nines, fresh sneaks, fresh bandannas, sick wristbands and jerseys that matched the squads color scheme. Normally such a fresh fit would run a pretty penny, but Orion had spent almost four hours on the dance crafting minigames maxing out triple S rankings to provide only the finest quality drip for him and his homies. Finally, it would be time for Loki to take his shot.
"You got this Loki!" Orion would call out, clapping his hands. "Show em how we do it bud!"

Loke dribbled up to the net with incredible speed, aaaaand...slipped busting ass across the blacktop elliciting a strings oh pained "ooohs" from the crowd. Orion quickly darted forward and grabbed his companion, pulling him to the side to get some booboo kisses from their trained nurse Arachnae. "Sall right man, we can try a run back in a lil bit."

<Come on, come on, come on hurry up! Weâre gonna be late for tryouts!> Lucy yelled as she dashed towards the basketball courts. Manish lagged behind, quite literally dragging his feet. He didnât even like most sports in the real world, he couldnât imagine liking them in a game. But what Lucy wanted, Lucy got. âWhy couldnât it be baseball? Baseball is, you know, good! Father did a job about baseball once. I mean, well, it wasnât really about the uh, well, actual sport? Part? But it was technically about baseball kind of.â <Aw itâll be fun! You can watch me and Lucy play some ball and you can, you know, sit on the sidelines, cheer at the appropriate times, and probably get in a nap.> Ryan tried to reason as he followed behind the two. The prospect of a nap cheered Manish right up. âOh thatâs okay then. As long as I donât uh, have to um, play? I donât think that would be uh, a great um, idea?â Lucy and Ryan shared a look before nodding, <yeah thatâs probably for the best, bossman.> Manish made his way to the rather sketchy looking wooden stands and nervously watched as the two pokemon made their way to the court. Ryan appeared to be his normal, calm self but Lucy was acting more jittery than normal. Her competitive nature must be kicking in. Manish just hoped it didnât ruin her chances. <Iâll go first, you burn off some of that steam by running laps or something.> Ryan suggested and was quite shocked when she nodded and took off to run circles around the court. The lumbering toad made his way onto the court. He shot a glance at Manish in the stands before eyeing the judges. Ryan didnât particularly care about impressing them, really he was just there for Lucy. He unwound his vines from his fungal bloom and used those to grab one of the free balls. He steadily made his way down the court before gently setting the basketball through the hoop. âWoo! Go Ryan! Good job getting the uh, touchdown? Is that right? That doesnât feel right.â Manish cheered from the stands and Ryan waved a vine in his direction. Lucy charged onto the court, <Bruh, do you have a passport?> Ryan stared blankly at her, <for the amount of traveling you did?> There was still not a flicker of recognition in his large eyes and Lucy sighed. <Get it? Traveling? Like, not dribbling the ball? Oh why do I even bother. You go sit by Manish and think about what youâve done. I gotta finish stretching.> Ryan shrugged as much as he could and wandered to the stands. âI thought you did great.â Manish said as he patted Ryan on the head. "Abigail, Benny, Cecil, Duncan, Evangelista, come on, let's go!"
Despite what it might sound like, Jinx was actually calling out to one Pokemon, not five. Technically, anyway. Falinks was weird like that.
"Are you ready to get your dunk on?"
The fourth in line gave Jinx a strange look; it took her a moment to put together the pieces, but once she did, she let out a loud laugh.
"Oh, silly, I said 'dunk on', not 'Duncan'! Though with a name like that you'd better be good at dunkin', eh, Duncan?" Jinx punctuated her question with another laugh, which just gave her more weird looks from the Falinks members.
"Now, individually each of you are pretty small, but working together, I bet you'll be able to reach that hoop no problem! And there's no rule that says a Falinks can't compete as a single team member! ...there isn't, right?"
Jinx ran off the court to confer with a Gothita umpire before returning to her Falinks' side.
"Yeah, no rule against it! Though, uh, the umpire gave me a weird look for asking. I don't think they'd thought of that one yet. Anyway, are you guys ready to show off your stuff?"
All five members of the Falinks nodded their heads in unison.
"Alright, here's the ball for you. Abigail, lead the way to victory! Benny, Cecil, Duncan, Evangelista, just follow her lead and do what you gotta do to get the ball through that hoop!"
The Falinks ran after the ball immediately after Jinx threw it in their direction, with Evangelista grabbing it. It was a comical sight, really, the little Falinks member dribbling a basketball that was nearly as big as she was, and the sight only grew stranger as the ball got passed along between the five of them.
Soon enough, though, all five were lined up under the basketball hoop. Jinx held her breath, waiting for the throw...
...which never came, not really, because instead of throwing the basketball, the Falinks just climbed on top of each other and passed the ball between them until Abigail on top was able to gently toss it into the hoop.
"Alright! Nothing but net! Though, uh, next time you might want to try actually throwing the ball, alright? Or at least climbing up to the hoop a little faster?"
Five pairs of unconvinced eyes stared back at Jinx as the Falinks members climbed back down to the ground.

Autumn leaves flowed behind the newly-evolved Dewott as she took her place on the court, leaving smudges of soot behind in her pawprints. She took the ball in both paws, sighting down the court towards the basket.
"You can do it! Impress those scouts, Watson!" Yggy shouted from the stands, waving a big foam finger she'd paid a handful of bytes for. This wasn't exactly baseball, but it was still totally fun, and a bunch of her friends like Big Bee and manish and orioncayge were here. Oh, and a new kid too! "Hi, I'm Yggy! It's short for Yggylopolis. You know, the lost city?" The tomboy grinned at Jinx, sticking out her big foam finger like a handshake. "Just don't pull it, right?"
<I'm not Watson,> the Dewott said to herself, though the reply was starting to feel hollow. Especially after evolving, she felt more like the replacement for Yggy's starter than ever.
She glanced down the court, feeling pressured with no teammates to pass to. Maybe if I use a little water power... As she thought, she powered up a Water Pulse and used it to make a stream of water down the court.
"Woo! Man, we're gonna get so many points you guys'll be wishing for a point guard," Yggy joked, watching her starter slip down the court with the ball. The speed was incredible, but unfortunately, the otter was a little too slippery. Her back paws gave way and she went flying off the court, ball and all.
<Out of bounds!> One of the Gothita umpires blew her whistle. Not-Watson glanced back, tilting her head to the side. <I guess I didn't know the rules,> she said, unfazed.
<Bet you didn't know about the penalty, either,> the Gothita said gruffly, shoving a slip of paper into the otter's paws.
Yggy watched from afar as the Dewott read the paper, looked up, and waved it in the air at her. <It's a curse!> the otter shouted.
"Huh?" Yggy put both hands around her mouth to yell back. "Are you winning?" Yeah, still didn't have Poke Speech enabled.
<''Your best friend will feel the freezing chill of a thousand winters in three weeks!'> Not-Watson read. She looked visibly pained. <Can they really enforce this?>
The Gothita's face was stony. <Don't go out of bounds,> she said ominously.
Sighing, crumpling up the curse slip into a ball, the Dewott started down the court to try again.

Lucy gripped the basketball tight. This was her shot. Her time to shine. Her opportunity to rise the ranks and become the famous ball player she was destined to be. Sure, she didnât know until a little while ago what basketball was, but it was her dream. She got this. Probably.
<I got this. Ball is life.> She said to Manish and Ryan, moreso to assure herself.
âItâs okay Lucy, I bawl all the time! So I guess itâs my life too.â Manish commiserated.
It took a moment for Lucy and Ryan to both realize what he said.
<Aw buddyâŚ> Ryan said, patting Manish on the back with one of his vines.
Lucy moved the basketball under one arm to also pat Manishâs shoulder. <You doing alright, bossman?>
âSure? Iâm fine? What are you guys doing? Iâm fine. Itâs totally normal to bawl, Lucy just said so. Iâm fine. Right? IâmâŚam I fine?â Manish replied, voice getting steadily thicker with emotion as he insisted he was totally, definitely fine.
<Of course youâre fine, champ.>
<Weâre here for you. But not right now. Right now I gotta go ball. Not your kind of bawl. Actually ball.> Lucy slowly backed away and with a reassuring smile from Ryan that he was going to handle their weepy trainer, she made her way to the court.
<See, little known rule, but if you do a flip when you go to dunk, it counts for double!> Lucy dribbled the ball, before dashing down the court and using all the excessive amount of energy she said she jumped as high as she could, doing a flip before slamming the basketball into the hoop.

The court had filled up with eager ballers, and with the eyes of more and more players and even a professional Umpire Hunter on them the pressure was mounting faster than a cowboy at a timed rodeo.
Big Bee bent down, grabbing Groudon before he could trundle off to fail another dunk.
"Shit, I mean, uh, Skitty, did you see what happened to Yggy? Cursed to a thousand years of cold showers or something. I couldn't quite catch it and I don't want to ask in case it rubs off on me. Either way we've gotta be careful buddy. Yeah?"
Groudon grumbled.
"I know, and we WILL, but first we've gotta get ready!" Big Bee opened his inventory and took out two of the Burning Bandanas. He replaced his own blue bandana with the blazing one, and tied the other around Jam's neck. "Now we look like a real team!"
Jam tried to look down at the bandana, but his lack of neck prevented him seeing his own full glory.
"I'm not done yet either," said Big Bee, and he retrieved the most crucial upgrade from his bag: the Trailblazer Kicks.
One size fits all, they slipped straight onto the stubby feet of his stumpy son. "Hell. Yes. Now those are some damn fine kicks. Go for a run!"
Jam took a few steps, and almost fell over from the extra speed! He sprinted and stumbled, barely keeping his balance as he shot around the court, leaving a trail of flame behind him. He did two more laps, and ran straight through the legs of the Gothita umpiress.
"Whoa! Careful buddy, we don't need to get cursed! Come back, I've got something to tell you." Jam, grinning like a mud shark, skidded to a halt in front of Big Bee.
"Now remember how you fell over last time?"
Jam nodded.
"Well, this time don't do that."
Jam frowned.
"I'm serious! When you get to the end of the board you have to bend your knees. Almost squat down. Then, extend your legs and use that momentum to rise higher into the air, taking you closer to your target. It's called a jump. Like this." Big Bee demonstrated what jumping looked like.
Jam looked unconvinced, but he put on a brave face.
"Are you ready?"
Jam growled and nodded.
"I said ARE YOU READY?!"
"SHHHH!" The umpiress stomped over and angrily scribbled on a slip of paper, which she handed to Big Bee.
'No shouting! Your voice will leave you when you need it most, to wander, unheeded and untethered, only to be claimed by the East wind.'
"What? Are you serious! No shouting! But this is sports!"
The Gothita reached for more paper but Big Bee waved her down. "Okay okay! I'll be quiet."
"You ready?" He whispered, and Jam nodded. "Then let's goooo."

Okay, so the Falinks that Jinx had begun to call the Horde as a catch-all name had kind of flubbed the first time around, but that was no reason to give up, right?
"Alright, you guys--Abigail, Benny, Cecil, Duncan, Evangelista, and Fern--that was a rougher start than I would have hoped for, but I know you all have real potential! The talent is there, deep down, and that's the most important part! You've just got to polish things up a bit, and you know what's a good way to start?"
Jinx rummaged through her bag before pulling out a colorful bandana... and then another... and then another... until a total of seven bandanas were in her hands, before running up to each Falinks member and putting a bandana on each one.
"See, if you want to be a member of the Briarbane Bandanas, the first step is getting a bandana of your own! Abigail got red, Benny got orange, Cecil got yellow, Duncan got green, Evangelista got blue, and Fern got purple! All the colors of the rainbow, right in a row! And..." Jinx pulled out the last bandana and tied it around her head triumphantly. "I got a rainbow bandana to use while I root for you guys! I think rainbow colors look cute on me, don't you think?"
The Falinks remained silent.
"Whatever. I like it, and that's what matters. Plus, with those big bandanas on your cute lil' noggins, you look kind of like the Bandanas mascot! That's gotta count for something, right? Dressing up like that has to help your dunking skills!"
Benny nodded slightly, but Fern wasn't even looking in Jinx's direction. You win some, you lose some.
"Alright, now, I do like the whole climbing on each other thing--if you can do it faster. Like, a lot faster. Mid-game, your opponents aren't gonna just stand there and watch, right? They're gonna get in your way! So if you want to do things that way, you've gotta be quick about it! Let me see you go for it!"
The six Falinks members did their best to run through climbing over each other, growing a little bit quicker each time... but even so, it took precious seconds for each member to join the line, too long to do on a regular basis in the middle of a game.
"Look... I think you guys were hoping to avoid this, but... you're gonna have to learn how to throw the ball, okay?"
A few grunts and groans were audible, though Jinx couldn't tell which team members in particular had made the noises.
"I know, I know! But that way, you don't have to climb on each other every time. Or you can climb with only two or three of you, and that'd cut down the time even more, right? And then you're still elevated for the big throw! Now, let's see you toss it into the hoop with all your might!"
The first throws were... pretty pathetic. Most weren't nearly high enough to make it inside the hoop, and many were at the wrong angle to boot. But with a bit of coaching and words of encouragement, the Falinks grew better at aiming and throwing, to the point where they could make throws without climbing on each other and still get the ball through the hoop every now and then.
It was... a start, at least. There was potential. That's what would have to matter here--potential.
After several minutes, though, Jinx noticed that not all of the "throws"... were actually being thrown. Instead, Abigail and Fern seemed to be developing a technique where Fern would bounce the ball off of Abigail's shields at just the right angle for it to go flying into the air.
It wasn't what Jinx had asked for, but maybe it was what she had really needed to see just the same.
"Abigail, Fern, I love it!"
The two Falinks members looked up at Jinx, shocked.
"Yeah, that's great! I bet nobody will see that one coming! Keep perfecting that technique, you two--it just might come in handy when the other guys least expect it!"
Abigail and Fern nodded and went back to it, the other Falinks members kept tossing the ball... they seemed to be into it, now. They were learning, improving, every step of the way.

Did Genesis particularly care about basketball? Not really.
Did Genesis want to get in on this limited time event anyway? Absolutely.
And once the Air Bud reference stuck in their head, they couldn't help but bring Marley along for the ride.
"After all-" Genesis was talking more to themself than to anybody else, even though they were speaking out loud now. "Ain't no rule that says a dog Pokemon can't play basketball, amirite?"
One of the Gothita umpires came running up to Genesis and whispered something in their ear, their eyes widening as they repeated what they had heard.
"Unless they're a Golden Retriever? Well, that's... oddly specific..."
Seems they weren't the first to think of the Air Bud reference there, huh?
"Good thing you're not a Golden Retriever, right bud? You're a... I dunno, a mutt of some kind? I'm not good at guessing dog breeds..."
Luckily, Marley didn't seem all too bothered by Genesis' apparent enthusiasm, the dog Pokemon running towards the nearest basketball with glee, grabbing it in his mouth, batting it around... and then burning it with the candle on his head, which left a foul stench and clearly put a damper on the Greavard's enthusiasm.
"Ooh... yeah, don't do that, bud."
Marley rolled his eyes at that comment.
"Hey, you gotta learn somehow, right? Just keep the top of your head away from the ball and you should be fine. And hey, once you're a Houndstone, it'll be a nonissue!"
Marley was still slow to resume playing, the dog seeming unconvinced by Genesis' words.
"Maybe, uh..." Genesis rummaged through their bag, revealing an astonishing and frankly geometrically improbable amount of supplies hiding in there before finding a roll of aluminum foil and quickly molding it into a makeshift hat. "Here, wear this and you'll be able to play without fear!"
Marley still didn't look too happy with the situation, but he trotted over to Genesis' side and begrudgingly let his Trainer put on the hat, which covered the candle's flame.
"Yeah, now you're dressed to play ball!"
Marley looked up at Genesis with quite literal puppy dog eyes, still full of sorrow from burning the basketball before, and even Genesis' cold heart wasn't immune to that look. He knew he had to say something to cheer the pup up.
"Don't let that early slip-up get you down. Everybody messes up at some point, yeah? Especially early on, when you're just learning the ropes. What matters is how you react to it. You've just got to learn from your mistakes, and keep putting yourself out there. People like to talk a lot about talent, but from what I've seen, most 'talent' is the result of years and years of practice. So get practicing, and soon enough you'll be better than anybody, you hear me?"
The dog gave a happy bark and waddled over to the nearest basketball before starting to prod it again, pushing it with his paws, bouncing it up and down, holding it in his mouth, spinning it on his nose...
...wait. Spinning it on his nose? Oh, that was cute. Even if it did put Genesis more in mind of a seal than a dog...
"That's pretty cool there, Marley. But just spinning the ball isn't gonna do much for you in a game..."
Marley let out a low growl before launching the ball into the air with a tilt of the head. It looked like a wild throw at first, but the spin on the ball made it go closer and closer to the hoop, eventually hitting the net... and bouncing off of the rim.
"Okay, now that, that's got promise! Just gotta train your aim a little bit more, I think, but remember what I said about practice?"[b/]
Honestly, in their heart of hearts, Genesis had always thought that entering a dog into a basketball game was a ridiculous idea, in real life or in the Pokemon world. Dogs were shorter than people, they didn't have hands to hold the ball in, their four-legged frame didn't easily accommodate dribbling... but as Genesis watched Marley keep playing around with the ball, he thought that maybe the dog's sheer determination would be enough to prove them wrong in the end.

Valentine hadn't been sure about the basketball event--she wasn't really much for sports, truth be told (that was one of the things in everyday life that Logan came here to avoid, after all)--but Grim's eyes had lit up upon hearing that the basketball team was holding try-outs, and who was she to deny the Weavile a bit of fun?
"Before you get started, you need to get dressed for the part, Grim! Pretty sure they have a rule against bare feet on the basketball court, after all!"
A Gothita umpire spoke up to clarify that it only mattered if the bare feet in question were dirty, excessively sweaty, or otherwise tracking in grime, but too late. Valentine had already gotten out the little booties she had bought for Grim, and she wasn't going to be stopped by a little thing like them not being necessary. Plus, what if the Weavile ended up working up a sweat during practice? Better safe than sorry!
"These sneakers are made for athletes, so maybe they'll help you become one! It's worth a shot, at least, right?"
The Weavile didn't look especially convinced by Valentine's argument, and he made a face as she shoved his feet into the sneakers, but he at least tolerated wearing them, so it could have been worse, all things considered.
"Really, Grim, I believe in you here, and not just because I can tell you're into this sport, though that sure helps. But really, you were practically made for basketball, all tall and skinny like you are! And now that you've evolved, you're even stronger and faster and taller than before! Get some practice in, and I'm sure you'll blow them all away! Now, go show the Bandanas scouts what you're made of!"
Grim didn't have to be told twice, shooting Valentine a quick nod before running onto the court after his owner's pep talk. And he did seem to be something of a natural at the sport. He could dribble! He could shoot! He could... pop the ball with one of his claws, apparently? Oh dear, that wasn't a good ability to have... and after the ball popped, Grim just stared at it, deflated on the floor, for a long minute...
Valentine didn't hesitate to take the chance to go cheer up her Pokemon.
"Tough break there! I'll admit, I didn't see that one coming. But having claws doesn't mean you can't play basketball, not even close! Now, I can see two solutions here. Either I go get you some cute little gloves to match those adorable sneakers you have on-"
Grim snarled at the idea, baring his teeth for all to see. Valentine shuddered a little, but she didn't let it stop her, though her speech after the snarl was a bit faster and more high-pitched.
"Or you can learn to hold your hands so you don't pop the basketball! I'm guessing we're going with option number two here!"
Grim nodded and looked back up at Valentine.
"So, uh, it's just the tips of your claws that are sharp enough to do that, right? So you just need to learn to play with the rest of your paw. Try to keep the ball close to your palm when you're dribbling--like this, kind of?"
Valentine's display, with the last knuckle of each fingertip pointed out to vaguely resemble claws, probably wasn't as good as she thought, but it was enough for Grim to get the idea, at least.
"Now you try?"
The Weavile was hesitant, but he took the ball, dribbling it cautiously a few times before darting across the court at his usual speed once more.
"There you go! Now, if that's not a Bandana team member waiting to happen, well, I don't know what is!"

<'Ugh⌠Do we really need to do this?'>
"Obviously."
<'...Can I ask why?'>
"Ha. Silly Orm." Tutting reproach is offered by the petite blonde, her arms crossed over her chest. The most mischievous of smirks tugs at her rosy lips and her mismatched gaze remains fixed on the ongoing basketball game. "Do you know what I really love? Dunking on people. As my pokĂŠmon you must love it too, obviously."
<'....Y-YeahâŚObviouslyâŚ'>
The reality of the matter is that the slender and elegant Dragonair truly couldnât care less about basketball or dunking, but Tuesday is very much like an overbearing mother encouraging (read: forcing) her children to join their local sport teams for her own sake. But, hey, at least she has a plan, because doesnât she always have a plan?
"Listen, Orm, itâs pretty damn simple⌠You donât have to be the best player out there, you just have to be the one that the audience likes the most and that catches the scoutâs attention. You know how to do that?"
<'...By playing weâ'>
"Thatâs right! Charisma! Everyone likes players who stand out, have a good time, and above all else, those who have the sickest, coolest, and funniest signature celebrations when scoring." Sagely, she nods to herself, as if impressed with her own wisdom in the matter. Putting a hand on the smooth sapphire scales of the Dragonairâs back, she smirks at it. "Youâre one of the rarer pokĂŠmon out here, Orm. Youâre already cool by default. You got this! Oh, and remember to smile for the cameras! This whole thing is being recorded, you know?"
<'Butâ'>
No more protests are allowed on the Dragonairâs part. Tuesday urges him onto the court, and with a sigh, Orm finds himself forced to respond to his trainerâs demands. Now, at this point you might ask yourself: how does a Dragonair play Basketball with no legs or arms?
Terrible question! The clear answer comes quickly enough, for Orm uses his tail to slap the ball right out of another pokĂŠmonâs paws, spinning it on the tip of his tail as if he truly were a pro. In reality, heâs just bored and wants to do his own thing.
In a serpentine motion, he slithers towards the nearest basket, avoiding other pokĂŠmonâs with grace. The ball bounces against beautiful crystal orbs, and when Orm deems the distance as good enough, he rises in the air and guarantees a dunk.
Now, about that celebration dance?
Itâs The Worm, of course.

"Blobert, you adorable little ball of goo, this is also you need."
Hilda, not unlike others among those present, has a certain appreciation for Space Jam 1996, and such being the case, when she had heard that the UNOVR Briarbane Bandanas were recruiting new players, she couldn't not have one of her pokĂŠmon participate. She had chosen her Ditto, because of course.
Said Ditto is currently being given the bandana Domino usually wears around her neck, although its a bit of a struggle to wrap it around the amorphous blob of a pokĂŠmon. Still, the flames make it look cool as hell.
"Sick drip and this." Winking, Domino shakes the bottle she has by her side.
Secret techniques?
Nah, forget that. How about DOMI'S SECRET STUFF?
Now, it sure tastes an awful lot like water, but Blobert is a good boy, and he fully believes the words coming out of his lovely trainer's mouth. Surely this is supposed to make him super strong and powerful, right? Flexing, the Ditto steps onto the court...
And then he transform's into someone's mighty mighty Groudon.
The Gothita umpire gives them a disapproving look, but Domino just shrugs and smiles, almost as if to say "Sorry, sugar, I see no rule against that."
Sure enough, there isn't, for the UNOVR Basketball rulebook is as large as it is comprehensive, and dearest Hilda had read all of it. Ain't nobody getting them on a technicality.
"YOU GOT THIS, YOU GLORIOUS GLORIFIED PLAY DOH!"
And sure enough, Blobert does, because it's oh so gloriously that he attempts to dribble while in the form of a Groudon that bears the goofiest of smiles.

Despite Lucyâs impressive dunk, no one seemed that particularly hyped about her dunk. Which, well, that just didnât make sense, she even did a flip and Manish was pretty sure flips were always a crowd pleaser. Judging by the way Lucy was dejectedly shuffling off the court, she must have picked up on the lack of enthusiasm as well. Manish didnât really know anything about basketball, but he knew Lucy and that had to count for something, right? Manish stumbled his way over to Lucy and crouched down to look at her. âAre uh, how are you doing?â Lucy shot him a glare that told him exactly how dumb of a question that was. âRight, sorry, I just, um, I thought it was really cool? The flip? But uh, but maybe thatâs not a thing here? Like, Iâm pretty sure I saw a pokemon set a ball on fire, thatâs um. Well, thatâs just uh, a lot to compete with.â <Wow, bossman, just say Iâm boring and get it over with> Lucy pouted as she crossed her arms and kicked at the ground. âWait, no thatâs not, I mean that wasnât, no no, wait, that wasnâtâŚâ Manish tried to backtrack before tripping over his own words. He took a moment to take a deep breath and gently set his hands on Lucyâs shoulders. âLook, Luce, you are wild. And full of energy, and intimidating, and well, most of the time just looking at you makes me tired.â <Yep, go ahead and rub salt in the wound.>âLet me finish. Youâve been with me since the uh, the beginning, you know? And, I mean, Iâve seen you grow from a hyperactive tiny little lizard to aâŚaâŚâ Manish took a deep breath, preparing himself for what he was about to say â...a not at all boring badass.â Lucy gasped in gleeful shock. <Manish! Language!>Manish ducked down and watched the mushrooms cover the court around him to hide his blush. âYeah, yeah, I know. But uh, but itâs true. Come on, Luce, you know how cool you are. Now you just have to show everyone else.âRyan finally ambled up and nudged Lucy with a large shoulder. <Yeah, Lucy, I didnât take you for a quitter. You just gonna give up? I mean, if you are, I could probably do it instead, I am better than you after all.> Now that immediately sparked a fire in her. <What!> she screeched, <no way in hell youâre better than me! Look at you, and look at me! I am built for this. Youâre a hulking behemoth who couldnât ball to save his life!>Ryan gave Manish a wink before squaring up with Lucy. <Oh yeah? âCause from where Iâm standing youâve be throwing up so many bricks this might as well be a construction site.> <How dare you! First of all, that wasnât even a brick, I dunked it fair and square, itâs not my fault they are all blind and canât recognize pure talent when itâs right in front of them.> While it was a good idea at first, Manish was realizing that Ryanâs attempt to help fire her up was working a little too well and if he didnât do something fast they would start fighting for real and he really didnât want to deal with that again. Their campsite barely survived the last time it happened and there was a large section of the fence around The Fungal Fields that can attest to it, and also was the cause of the âMust camp a safe distance away from Briarbaneâ rule. Manish shivered at the thought. Time to distract the two. âBesides,â he said loudly to catch Lucy and Ryanâs attention. âYou just needed a uh, you need a umâŚâ Manish cast his eyes around quickly for what exactly Lucy needed. It took just a moment for him to see it: a sweatband discarded on the ground. âThis!â He scooped it up and presented it to her like a great gift. <Someone elseâs gross sweatband?> âYes! Well, no, I mean, you want to play uh, ball, then you need to look the part.â Lucy stared at Manish then stared at the legitimately kind of gross sweatband. She sighed and grabbed it out of Manishâs hand before placing it on her head. Yep, it was gross. But Manish was beaming and his joy did make her feel even more pumped. <Letâs do this.> Lucy once again took to the court. <You losers donât like flips? Fine, that was nothinâ. Check out my special move!> Lucy dribbled the ball a few times till she hit center court. From there, she lobbed the ball as hard as she could then fired off Razor Leaf, battering the ball into the hoop. Her own cheers were only drowned out by Manish and Ryan celebrating on the side of the court. jr99Rdhm1-20 Give your Pokemon a pep-talk (there's no motivation like friendly rivalry) +3 Use your Secret Technique (encourage the ball into the hoop with Razor Leaf) +3 Dress like you're ready to dunk (used sweatband) +2 Learn from your mistakes (no dunking) +2 Add a worldbuilding detail about Briarbane Settlement in general (no camping within city limits) +2 1-20
