Was he going to like, actually marry the fish? Were mermaids or some shit going to spawn? Orion had no clue, but as of late he'd been feeling pretty adventurous. Either dancing in a pitch black pit, with starts both in a weird metaphorical but less abstract form, or going on a rampage as a fictitious Duke Dueling out Dark Dames that Destroyed Dreams. Both of those things had some common denominators, but the most common of those denominators was a gent who seemed intent to steal the fighters attention. Mannisimo. The two of them had run in concentric orbits, only crossing paths when the stars aligned and the game brought most of the movers and shakers to one place to do one thing or another. They'd danced with death, daring the dark devices of Chandra mama and coming out ahead. The Event had allowed them to earn an earnest chance to escape together, making their elopement from the darkness a team effort. Fate had forced the two to fraternize, and the fighter had found the fungus fanatic to be a fun guy. Manish seemed like a great guy, a real genuine gent who got shit going, probably grew great green in his garden for long term gratification. Had only they happened to habit the same haunts sooner, they'd have harvested the fruits of being homies sooner. Introductions crossed out of the itinerary, Orion invited the introvert to this particularly grassy incline with an interesting idea. What better way for two dudes to get to better solidify their friendship than with a couple of cold ones and a line in the water. They could shoot the breeze, have a couple of cold ones, and get to know each other when there wasn't some sort of impending sense of danger looming above them. Though, with the way this game went, there was always something around the corner. All Orion had left to do was wait, however. He'd already put out the invite, brought the drinks and set up some lines. He just needed to practice the patience he'd patented for phishing, and soon he'd parley with a new pal.

Be cool, be calm, be normal. Don't ramble. Don't say anything weird. You got this,” Manish whispered to himself as he strolled through the fields to the designated meeting point. It wasn’t every day he got an invite from. Well. Anyone to hang out. But extra so from Orion. Sure, they’d had their run-ins quite a few times around UNOVR, but an actual personal invite? Manish was trying to be very cool and chill about the whole thing. Judging by the troop of mushrooms that were bursting from the ground around him. As he crested the final hill and Orion came into view, Manish took a deep breath and gave himself one final pep talk. “Be calm, totally chill. This is a normal thing, just two guys hanging out. You’ve seen this in movies before, you can do this. Just be calm.” Manish immediately ignored everything he said and waved both arms in the air, “Orion! Hi! Hello! Hi!” Yep. Super chill. He ran up at a totally normal and calm pace before letting out a small wheeze and giving a final wave. “Hi, uh, again. So um…fishing! I mean, um, that’s what you want to do, right? Fish for uh, for Blarney? Do you like fishing? I’ve uh, I’ve done it a bunch but never on purpose? Or, well, I mean, I went fishing on purpose, but never actually caught anything on purpose.” Did that make him sound bad? It probably made him sound like he was bad at fishing, he didn’t want to give Orion a reason to think he couldn’t do it. “I mean! Well, that’s uh, how good I am at it? That uh, that I can catch stuff when um, when not even trying? Yeah, yeah! That’s it. I’m a great fishing buddy.” He pulled his fishing pole out of his inventory and glanced down at the water. Yep, that sure looked like water. It dawned on him that yeah, he never actually caught anything on purpose. But really, how hard could it be to actually try? “Do uh, do you have a pole? I mean, um, to fish? Or oh, or do you catch fish a different way? I’ve seen people grab them with their bare hands!” Orion was cool enough that he probably didn’t need a pole at all.

His legs and arms were metaphorically flailing all over the place, desperately floundering for something, any form of traction whatsoever to stay upright. Part of Orion was infinitely amused by how hard he was trying, another part of him pitied the poor lad. He'd had a friend or two growing up that were just like Mannish, his Uncle Joey used to call em 'Spergs but the rest of the family called that uncouth. It was part of the charm, how genuine the little mushroom man was. Finally, after a bit of flailing, Orion would give the man a warm smile and a clap on the shoulder, as if to steady him. "Catching something on accident sounds like one hell of a story my man." He would motion to the two folding chairs he'd set up for them and the two rod holders he'd spiked into the ground and hammered in with the heel of his magnetic boots. "You should tell me about it," With a creak, the fighter opened his classic white cooler and plunged a hand into the frigid water, fumbling his way around by feel alone before pulling out a Pokecola. "Would you like a beverage? I got Pokecola, Phantumpa, Spirite, and Dr Joy. If none of those boat your float I've got water and maybe a few lacroix I keep around on the off chance Bee makes an appearance. Dude sips those things like they've got booze in em." Drinks presumably dispensed, he would grab his rod and give it a little flourish as if to demonstrate he had one and wasn't in the business of diving in and wrangling them out with his bare hands (as impressive as that would be). "I borrowed a rod from Blarney, it's kinda old fashioned but it gets the job done." He'd raise it up, make sure his surroundings were clear, and with a flick of his wrist would send the line flying out into the center of the pond with nigh perfect positioning before setting the rod in his holder. "Though I do like to fish, it's one of the few hobbies my grandfather indulges his grandchildren in. I just haven't had the bytes to spare to justify sinking them on a minigame rather than upgrades."

How could his stories of being attacked by every Magikarp on Beta Island compare to the definitely super cool and manly stories Orion probably had? He was baffled even further by the drink choices. Mother was not a fan of any drinks she deemed ‘unhealthy,’ which was most drinks. But one did catch his attention, “a uh, I’ll take a um, a la croix?” If Big Bee liked it, it was probably a safe guess. “Fishing with a uh, a grandparent sounds fun. I don’t um, don’t actually have uh, grandparents? Or, I mean, I guess I um, have to like, have them, you know? I just think they were already dead or whatever by the uh, the time I came around.” Is that weird? Manish was pretty sure that was weird. People on tv shows always had a few episodes about grandparents coming. As Manish finished tying bait onto his hook he desperately tried to think of a story that made him sound cool and also like a normal person. Or at least as normal as things got on UNOVR. “I uh, I got my rod from Blarney too, actually. But um, it was sort of a gift? See, I helped him catch this fish. Like, not a normal fish. It was giant. I mean super giant. I think it was called Splash Mommy? It was weird. But yeah, we had to make it a sandwich and uh, the sandwich was um, bad? I guess? Or I assume it was because Splash Mommy threw up stars on all of us. It was gross.” Manish casually tossed his fishing line into the water. In his experience they always jumped out when he was least expecting it, so tossing a line mid-story felt like the right move. “So then we gave up feeding it and just killed it. It exploded into gross fish filets. It was a whole thing. But uh, yeah. Blarney was so happy we committed a mild uh, fish murder that he um, gave us all poles.” Manish shot a look at his very still fishing pole. “Do you think we’ll uh, actually um, catch something that Blarney uh… I guess, I mean, I don’t actually know what he wants with the catches. Orion couldn't imagine a life without his grandparents, or at least without his poppop. Meemaw had passed when he was around fifteen, shortly after the fallout with his mom going MIA and Uncle Mac coming out of the closet. Lots of fond memories down that lane, though sad to think about for too long. Warmer days long gone and all the jazz, but why did people talk about jazz like that? Nobody ever said "and all the rock" or "And all the techno", though truth be told techno was less a genera and more of an umbrella for lots of music. Wait, so was jazz, what the fuck? Anyways. "Did your dad never take you fishin? I mean, it can be kind of a pain in the ass if you don't live near a body of water in which fish tend to exist in enough quantitiy to catch, but, still." He shrugged. It donned on Orion that he was prying slightly, but in all truth he didn't really know much about his companion. They'd spent so much time haunting the same game and nearly missing eachother at events, but he could probably count the number of conversations they'd actually had on one hand, maybe two. Factor in the man's pentiant for bumbling through a statement like he felt every word was an insult to the person he was talking to and you ended up with and enigma shrouded in mystery. He would let the man expound on his story more, listening intently, nodding along as he detailed the rather surreal events of this...Splash Mommy incident, eliciting a raised eyebrow but no interjections to the story as he let the man finish. "Splash mommy sounds like a rip roaring good time, not gonna lie." Cracking his neck, Orion would watch as his friend cast his line, and then take a sip. "I get hella FOMO with some of the events on this game, it's like...you miss one event and suddenly everyone has this fucking rad memories and you just gotta be like "Damn I missed that shit" and unless Hydance decides to recycle events you're not gonna be able to catch a rerun or somethin. It's like real life, but like, less lame and has cool pokemon." HIs bobber would dip below the surface and his line would begin to zig and zag. Orion, another odd tangent locked and loaded in his mouth, tutted slightly and picked up his rod. "Shit we got a live one." He would give it a flick and begin the rad fishing minigame that was more like actual fishing than he'd even found in any game. After a moment or two he would find a flailing Azurill of a rather large size bearing a half eaten soggy pretzel in its mouth. "I mean, Im sure Blarney will like something eh? I mean, does this look like wifey material to you bud? Kinda cute, I wouldn't mind coming home to-" the fighter paused. "Actually, that would be weird, not sure what Blarney is on about, but he did ask you to help deal with something called splash mommy so..."
