And, he also feels it in the way claws dig into fabric, as if it truly believed this desperate attempt were enough to stop him. It's not. When they reach the first blotch of darkness, the kitten understands, its fur bristling with static electricity and a hiss ringing like lightning's strike. It had never been here before, and yet it knows. It has spent enough time with Yuze to know. ^{"That's it.} _{Use that fear."} When Yuze speaks to it, he doesn't really sound like himself — his voice a mere whisper that rings with an edge of something strange and twisted. He crouching down besides the small beast despite the threat displayed by every fiber of its body; despite the violence with which it trembles, despite the foam that drools off its mouth with every hiss, despite the claws that are out and at the ready, and even despite the sparks that strike him when he reaches for it. _{"It's right for you to be afraid.} ^{It's right for you to hate."} He strokes the kitten's fur, bristled as if a thousand needles piercing his skin with every touch. ^{"Hurt them.} _{Hurt them before they hurt you."} He lets go then and the kitten runs, a single thing in its mind: attack. He opens his eyes and the first thing he sees is a pool of tar under his palms. He raises his head and sees a world he doesn’t recognize, void of life. Looking behind him reveals that what he’d broken free of wasn’t even an egg—it’s some kind of black mound, like hardened magma, shattered now. He does not hear the approaching steps of an enemy. He doesn’t realize he’s under attack until he’s been tackled, having just been born and immediately placed under the mercy of some rabid beast. He grits his teeth and doesn’t scream even as his fur is torn as he holds it away from him. Black eyes are wide with shock, with the urge to scream. His body is drenched in tar, half-formed and sloughing into pieces, and it’s not even this that causes him distress. Pansear has never been able to utter a word, but never has he been unable to hear. It moves with a power its small body does not possess, running with the urgency of a starving hunter. He has come to know that hunter well. It's a hunter that is within him as well. ^{"Fascinating."} He whispers, following after his beast with spectral steps. He makes no sound, he leaves no footprints upon the ground; he is as if a phantom, silent. And oh, his beast. What a marvellous thing. It shifts and changes, tar clinging to sharp paws with every step it takes towards its prey. It grows in size and speed and strength. It becomes the perfect hunter to take down this prey. And, the closer it gets, the more the ground trembles beneath, as if it too were rumbling with hunger. Soon, it will feast. Soon, they will all feast... Feast on this prey that had done nothing to deserve such a name, other than existing at the wrong time and the wrong place. Innocent. So perfect. ^{"There's a connection, then."} The beast lunges, but the phantom now looks at the ground instead, his attention stolen away. He watches how it trembles. He watches the way dark pools ripple in anticipation when murderous fangs cut into a jugular vein. ^{"All corruption is the same. How cruel of you not to mention that we're all connected."} This time, his whispers are full of scorn, yet with them rings an amused chuckle that does not match his expression at all. _{"You knew that already."} Faintly, he smirks, and once again, crimson eyes follow the movements of the beast. Claws dig through flesh, red and black ooze pooling beneath hunter and prey. Fangs grab onto muscle, pulling until tearing away a mouthful. It chews, it feeds, and beneath, its prey still lives. _{"So sloppy.} ^{It only cares about feeding.}_{Feeding is all that will ever matter."} How curious. Here, the parasite's motivations are their beasts motivations as well. Truly fascinating. SHINX HP: 50/150

He is still worthy. He does not deserve to be abandoned here. He has apprentices to return to; a young Chimchar to raise. His foolhardy trainer will not be able to rein in their hodgepodge team without his guidance. He has recipes to try. Loved ones to feed. He cannot die. The monkey grits his teeth. He is summoning fire from the depths of his core. He takes the silence he has been unwittingly plunged in — his world changed forever — and molds it into peace. The fire bubbles up his throat, and detonates there as the nozzle is clamped shut with fangs. It is an instant kill. As he fades, vision turning to black, he sees something beyond the tar beast that has slain him. Red eyes. His trainer’s are green. Who are you? The beast growls, unsatisfied, and the world growls with her, tar sizzling with justified anger. The prey is gone, faded — it has returned to its rightful place. And, in watching it fade, the hunter understands: it had been a being touched by Mistra corruption as well. A corrupt creature? No... A beast touched by a parasite's corruption, just like his own? Yes, that's more likely. So, then... ^{"You'll go as far as eating your own when there's nothing else to feast on.} _{Why not? All food is food, it doesn't matter where it came from.} ^{Omnis Vorare, then."} Omnivorous. The word forms itself, unspoken but known to both parasite and hunter. Cannibalistic tendencies. Unsurprising, really. Instances of cannibalism have been recorded in over a thousand species, with the rate for it increasing in nutritionally poor environments, and Mistra undoubtedly is—... The beast's growls are now full of pain, and with her, the land cries out in pain as well. He knows. He understands. He feels it within himself: a hunger so deep that it aches. It's not his hunger. He reaches down. He reaches for the beast, ignoring the way black ooze leaks off her fur and clings to his fingers. ^{"You did well."} He offers praise, but there are no words to comfort her — he doesn't tell her that soon she will feel better. Why lie? Why say things of which he's not certain? After all, the hunter knows that if this land is hungry enough, it will take this beast of his as well. Walking with the starving creature by his side, he's aware a truth that many refuse to acknowledge: this is simply the way of nature, there's no reason to cast blames.
