Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

You arrive at the Pokemon Lab on the edge of a new frontier— miles of unexplored wilderness that hide secrets, corrupted Pokémon, and unknown potential. As you are teleported from the starting screen into the Lab, you don't know where to step, much less move. Books are stacked in haphazard piles on the floor, beakers of bubbling black fluid balanced precariously atop them. Styrofoam containers of old takeout are piled up in the garbage bin. Strange machines built of PVC piping and salvaged materials are scattered around like a car show gone wrong, some clearly still in-progress, some in the process of being rebuilt. A small woman in a stained lab coat is crouched on top of the desk, looking for something. "Where is it... where is it... NYA-HA!" She straightens up triumphantly, fitting an oversized monocle into one eye, and scooches forward so that her legs now dangle off the front of the desk like a kid in a high chair. "There we nyare! Hiya, nyewb! I'm Dr. Bunya!" The region's newly-appointed Pokemon Professor seems more like a stray cat that wandered into someone's house than any kind of working professional, but you don't see an alternative. "Sit nyanywhere! You're here for a starter Pokenyan, right?" Your eyes are drawn to the display case behind her, where 27 sealed Pokeballs wait quietly behind the glass. System Admin:Bunyaa makes a show of shuffling some papers on her desk. "I got some questions to ask nya first! Heheheh..." Her expression changes from gleeful to panicked as she seems unable to find the relevant manual. "...Eh, I'll just wing it," you hear her mutter under her breath before turning back to you, chipper as before. "Nyall righty! When you're ready, say 'fire!'" Tueslay: REPLY TO START THE INTERVIEW!

A laboratory, though one cluttered and defiled. Trash swept over every surface, books and journals amidst piles of tar. A child of a professor muttering to herself. So this was the world that awaited her. No matter. Th child- Dr. Bunya- spoke to her, and Tueslay smiled, winningly and confident. She waits, the interaction preprogrammed, preplanned- for now, at least. Bunya gives her the opportunity to speak, and what else is she to say? Soft tail swishing behind her, Tueslay puts a hand on her hip. Ready for anything. “Fire.”

The only way to go is up, after all.” At the next question, she thought. “Yeah. I have.” She said, unflinchingly confident. “When I needed to be saved, no one came to hel- save for me. I pulled myself out of that scrape, and I’ll keep doing it.” At the fairytale question, Tueslay paused to give it more thought. Fairytales… “I don’t know about favorite- I don’t think about them often. But there’s Doctor Know-all- a classic. But then there’s The Elves and The Shoemaker, which… It’s a bad mindset to get into. That people will just show up to help.“ It’s not realistic. If you want something done, it needs to be done yourself. Every time.

These are all very serious questions, and the scientific input of a respected random visitor is deeply appreciated. She tears off the sheet of paper she was writing on and reaches absentmindedly down into the file cabinet beneath the desk, unlocking it with a satisfying click. On the paper, you see a glimpse of two dancing elves wearing big shoes. "This nyan is the best," she says, excited, then tosses the Pokeball into your hands. On the front is a piece of white tape with the name of the Pokemon written in precise, angular letters. Interview complete! Reply one more time to complete your starter lab thread. Tueslay

Prompts for TUTORIAL MODE overlay one another in a stack of miniature pop-ups, prompting you to do things like ~~say goodbye to your mother!~~ and ~~battle your rival!~~. "You can find your way from here, right?" She looks at the well signed path into town. "I'm sure you'll be fine. Seenya, Tueslay!" THREAD COMPLETE! SOBBLE has been added to Tueslay's box!
