Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

There was indeed signage back to the settlement. But not much else. She was excited to explore, and Briarbane would be the perfect place to start. But she was still getting used to her game body, and didn't know if risking the walk back would be worth it. Perhaps there was an alternative. Maybe catch a pokemon nearby and try to ride it? As she thought about what she could do, she felt a tug on her socks, looking down, her fuecoco was gesturing. <What if we rode on that?> He said, his gesturing leading her to look at a black carriage nearby. How had she not noticed that? Had it just spawned in? Either way, it was an option, and bonus points! It had a quest marker! Glancing over the information in her UI, she saw that it led to Briarbane and it looked like she'd be accompanied by another player. "Perfect!" She exclaimed rushing up to it and inspecting it. Introduction to the new world and with the potential of a new friend!? She squeaked in excitement at the thought, not noticing the driver atop the carriage until he cleared his throat. "Good afternoon, young lady. Is it bold of me to assume you would like a ride?" He quizzed, raising a brow, "given that you're examining my vehicle like you've just struck gold." He smiled, causing Jupiter to blush lightly and give him a sheepish look. Whoops. She'd have to remember that yes, people do exist. "yes, please." She smiled in return, regaining composure. She hopped up into the carriage, sliding into her seat, Peppercorn following suit, and making himself comfortable in her lap. Jupiter wrapped her arms gently around him. It wasn't long until another player joined her. She smiled brightly and waved. "Hi! Heading to Briarbane too, I'm assuming?" She asked cheerily. "I'm Jupiter! This lil guy here is Peppercorn! Looks like we're partners on this trip!" She beamed. Her first friend! Well, potential friend anyway. She hoped it was someone she got along with, the journey may be uncomfortable otherwise. Note: I use the dark skin, if you can't see the coloured font, let me know and I'll change it for you!

How'd I get here?❞ Jinyu scratched his head as Herr Forehead floated beside him, mouth still hung open like how Magikarp usually do. It was a powerful (and absolutely stupefying) moment, really, when he realized that hidden away in his settings, there was an option to toggle different parts of the class flavor he was equipped with. Somehow, "Let Water types swim in the air" was toggled off. Why? Did he do that? Did the game? That would've saved so much trouble with the rival fight! Well, it was better late than never, he supposed. Herr Forehead, confused at first, was particularly happy with the adjustment, even if he would sometimes swim too far and skid around in the air. It didn't take him all that long to control it properly (Jinyu figured it had something to do with the air not weighing as much as water). Anyway, back to the matter at hand: he suddenly found himself in front of a carriage, which reminded him of those period drama vehicles that looked very posh. If he squinted, the wood seemed to sparkle, or maybe he was just imagining things. Nonetheless, the driver also seemed to be looking at him with interest, and it also took a little time before Jinyu noticed him. ❝Err, a ride to where?❞ It was up to them to decide, apparently. Or maybe it would be explained further as they progressed through the quest (the UI flashing at him at the corner of his eye told him that it was marked as such). Lightly shrugging, he called Herr Forehead to get on the carriage, and it turned out that there was already someone waiting for him there. She looked young, and reminded him of his niece, who was starting to grow into her teen years. Ah, they grow up so fast... Heading to Briarbane too? ❝Oh, I was...❞ he decided not to mention that he just came from there and chalked it up to game logic. ❝Yeah! Nice to meet ya, I'm Jinyu, and this is Herr Forehead.❞ it only dawned on him then that His Highness must've been whisked back into his inventory when he teleported. Upon checking the windows quickly, he let out a quick sigh of relief to find the egg safely tucked in there. He raised his hand to offer a handshake, but hopefully she didn't find it weird that he was somewhat older (then again, his avatar was designed to look like someone in their early twenties, or maybe even someone around twenty. It wasn't like he wanted to be reminded of him aging). ❝You're new, yeah? So am I! How're you finding the game so far?❞ he sat opposite to her and let his Magikarp rest between his legs so that he wasn't just lying on his side uncomfortably. jupiterrain

She caught the pause in his response, but pushed it aside, this was her first friend! Her first companion! He seemed to be a little older than her, but he was friendly, that’s all that mattered. She shook his hand without hesitation, continuing to beam at him as he settled himself and Herr Forehead across from her. “Nice to meet you too! Interesting name for your Magikarp!" She beamed down at the pokemon before focusing on Jinyu once more. "Yeah, I’m new.” She nodded. “The game is good so far! It’s kinda weird getting used to the body. Mentally you know it’s not yours, so it takes some adjusting.” As if to prove a point, the carriage lurched forward and she found herself falling forward, arm pushing out to against the window to catch herself, and her poor pokemon companion finding the floor. Peppercorn looked up at her as if he were about to cry. After a moment of composing herself and brushing off the fall, she gingerly picked Peppercorn up of the floor, hugging him close. “I’m sorry dearest… are you okay?” She asked him. He shook his head, burying into her. She just held him, attention drawn to the scenery outside. “Wow! So foggy out there! And look at the trees! Kinda creepy… Think we’ll get to the settlement okay?” She turned her attention to Jinyu, a slight hint of concern in her expression. She didn’t know what to expect from the game, and there was a pain management option for a reason. “… Nope! Not going to creep myself out!” She decided a moment later. “How about a game of twenty questions to pass the time and get to know each other” She’ll just distract herself by talking instead. "First question! .... Favourite pokemon?" She asked, being deliberate in keeping her eyes away from the window. Jinyu

He's a chill dude.❞ he patted the back of his Pokemon, behind his fin. Herr Forehead just let out a cry of contentment. ❝I get what you mean about the whole body thing, but it makes it easier to remember that we're playing on VR.❞ he wasn't going to say that he had already done this before, but with an entirely different look, and he remembered that one took a while to get used to as well. With this body, well, it was more of the size than anything else (he certainly did not have this much bulk in real life), but he wanted to give off a friendly bear kind of vibe. The lurch of the carriage displaced his Magikarp somewhat, making his fins flail, but between his legs he was mostly secure and settled back quite quickly. The carriage, however, was not going to be a smooth ride, unfortunately. Oh, and poor Fuecoco, that tumble looked like it hurt! At least she seemed like a friendly, caring sort. She immediately tried to comfort the fire type, who didn't look like he was in the mood to converse for the time being. (Not that Jinyu would know, he chose to turn off PokeSpeech this time around, though maybe that would change in the future). ❝I think so. If ever, we actually do have fast travel if things get sticky, unless the quest is gonna keep us here.❞ at that thought, he did check his UI again to see if things were grayed out -- aaaand yeah, they were. Oh boy. ❝This region is supposed to be safer, 'specially since the corruption hullabaloo is in Mistra.❞ he had read up on it through media channels since he was thinking of eventually trying to head to Ostellia as well. No real reason other than he felt like...he might find something there. And adventure! Poor thing also looked scared though, and Jinyu thought that, err, this wasn't exactly a sunshine and rainbows kind of game. Good luck to her, he supposed. ❝Oh, sure! Good question, Magikarp?❞ he let out a laugh. ❝What about you?❞ he then thought for a moment, noting the Fuecoco still looked rather hurt. ❝Oh hey, I think I got a Poffin that I purchased from the shop for the lil guy, to cheer him up.❞ he quickly scrolled through his inventory and pulled it out of the holographic box. ❝Hope he likes spicy ones?❞ he had a red spherical pastry in hand, outstretched to Jupiter. jupiterrain [Glitch]Mk8L0Zhy1d100 1d100
