Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

Orion stepped into a dilapidated apartment, looking around. Behind him, Gilgamesh the Whimpod, Achilles the Inciniroar, and Morpheus the Type Null trotted through a recently kicked in door. They were on about floor seven of about thirty of some sort of mega apartment building that had about two to three units per floor, and they'd been at this for a while. "Uhm, it's giving very uh," Gilgamesh paused looking around. "Bombed out crackhouse vibes" The bug skittered past a few pieces of rubble, insectoid gaze glancing around to see if it was from anything load bearing. "It's not the worst we've seen, the ones on the first and second floor were torn to fuck and back" Achilles added, kicking aside a ruined lay-z-boy. "This one is mostly intact, no holes that span multiple rooms..." "Yeah but like," Morpheus added putting his front legs up on a small counter that divided the living room from a small kitchenette. "I can't really see myself hosting any dinner parties in this kitchen man. That oven looks like it has room for like...two digiornos max." "Yeah, that is a small oven." Orion would muse, "And those are a lot of issues with the structural integrity. Not something we can't fix with some crafting minigames and scrapping from other buildings." "You've said that about the last fifteen units!" Gil groaned. "They're good units Gil." Orion would quip back, gazing out a shattered sliding door into the city below. "Hell, with enough gumption and elbowgrease I could fix this whole place up and...rent...it...out." He stopped and blinked. He could be a landlord if he wanted, he just needed to claim his dibs first.

It was doable, but not in a timely manner that was for sure. Surprisingly there we no foul suprises in store for him. No environmental storytelling skeletons, no rotten food, nothing leapt out at him and tried to throw hands. It was just a busy day willed with a sense of generic tedium. The top of the building was a different story altogether. The last three floors were each their own unit, large and grandiose penthouses that you would see in fancy movies. The sort of shit Tony Stark or Reed Richards lived in, with those grand floor to ceiling windows that looked out over the city with a near unobstructed view. These seemed to have endured the least amount of abuse, almost as if all of the commotion had failed to scale this ivory tower and scratch these luxurious condos. Some of the windows had been shattered of course, but some of them were in surprisingly good shape. Sure the floors needed to be scrubbed, and a lot of damage had come from the weather seeping in through the cracks, but structurally the place seemed almost unphased. There were no holes in walls, just superficial damage that could easily be repaired or repainted. Maybe it was a metaphor for how the rich don't suffer like the poor, or maybe it was just another clue into the puzzle of what happened. Either way, Orion found himself standing on top of the tower, the wind blowing through his hair as he looked down upon the ruined city. This entire time he'd spent exploring the city had been filled with a sense of melancholy. He was an intruder digging through the corpse of a city long lost to...something. This land was dead, barren, left to rot while the world continued onwards. He'd swam to the bottom of the bay and surfed the sands of the dune district, he'd dredged through lost labs and abandoned buildings and was left with one notion. He would rebuild this city. They'd been brought here to find a weapon to fight the corruption, and while he wasn't quite sure what exactly kept it at bay, he knew one thing for certain. They could start their counterattack from here. Press north into the world, into the belly of the beast and reclaim this land for mon and man alike.

The words hung in the air for a long minute while Orion rubbed his chin. Gilgamesh was posted up on a ruined ottoman eating some grapes that'd been plundered from mom's fridge. Achilles was sprawled out on a relatively torn up loveseat half asleep while the sun shined down on him through cracked floor to ceiling windows. Morpheus had wandered off into the kitchen and was constantly musing aloud about backsplashes and lazy susans. "I think we're def gonna have to figure out the elevator sitch." The longer Orion sat in this pad the more it grew on him. Give him some scrap, a few dance crafting games, and time and he'd be Tony Stark up in this motherfucker. He could hold hella parties, plan hella raids, and play hella cards with the homies. Couple of bros and stoagies and he was ready for poker night. Now they needed to unlock actual crafting, but that was just a matter of time. "I mean duh," Achilles droned sleepily. "Those stairs are gonna be killer going up and down. Our calves will be gorgeous though..." "I meant for the coffin." Orion quipped. "That thing is gonna be a MOTHERFUCKER to get up here." "Gonna need to make sure the power is good." Gil added between grapes. "Last thing we need it that getting stuck midway." "Gonna need a bigger fridge in here." Morpheus chimed in. "By my count we can only fit like ten digiornos up in this freezer. And only like...five cases of modelo in here." "We should check on that next." Orion sat up, "The elevator, not the fridge. Locating the elevator shaft had been an easy task, after all it was the center most portion of the building, with each floor housing it in a small sort of foyer before branching off to the various apartment units. The stairs seemingly spiraled around this center shaft, keeping all traffic up and down the tower towards the center and away from the living quarters of the once residents. Muscling the door was also an easy task between Orion and Achilles' combined bulk. Staring down the dark well was a different animal, and it took Achilles flexing his flaming belt to illuminate the seemingly endless abyss ever so slightly. "I can really elevate my party game with a new fri-" Morpheus was cut off by Achilles pressing a paw to his mouth. "I swear to god I get it, you want to have a party, drop it before I stuff you back in your ball myself." "Hey!" Gil protested weakly from behind the trio. "One, you should be nice! Two, no roughhousing in front of an open elevator shaft! That's super not safe!" "I'm gonna take that as a no." Orion mused to nobody in particular as his mon quickly descended into familiar bickering and banter. Orion had always prided himself on running his team like they were one big happy family, and that unfortunately had the distinct side effect of them quibbling with eachother like siblings. "Alright gang, I'm gonna need to bench yall for this next portion. I'll call you out if I find something interesting." "What!" Morpheus groaned, breaking away from his big burly brother. "No fair! I want to plan out the house more!" "You're not climbing down that are you?" Gil chirped. "Oh I know enough to know he's walking down it." The cat leaned into the shaft and tapped the interior material, the sonorous ring of his knuckles on metal echoed down into the darkness. "Correct, and I can't carry you all, and I'm sure as shit not leaving you here where an Ultrabeast can get you. Love you three, see you in a lil bit." Orion would reply, giving each of his mighty mon a gentle pat. "Be safe! Wear my helmet!" Gil cried out as Orion returned all three of them into the digital hammerspace that was his inventory. Cracking his knuckles, Orion would open his inventory and equip his magnetic boots and pull out a flashlight he'd tactically acquired from Chadwick's failed halloween birchwild haunted forest event. Something about making merry on the aniversary of a tragedy had left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, but Orion knew that IRL it would have coincided with the con, so it was likely scrapped due to a desire to avoid conflicting event schedules. He would point it down the shaft, squinting to see if he could find any sign of the elevator itself but no dice. Looks like he was going to have to do this the hard way.
