"Hooookay," Adrien muttered to himself as he pulled up his party again with a thoughtful frown, scrolling through the options with adept little flickers of his fingers, "we're just gonna check up on a few things and-" Whatever elegance he might had had went out the window almost immediately as he fumbled, the very tip of his finger managing to tap on the pixels at the edge of the frame for a different prompt than the one he'd wanted-
And he found himself in a strange little area, Exochomper standing before him with his head tipped and the edges of his vision blurred out, designating a limited little clearing for the two fo them. "... Huh," he mumbled, blinking owlishly, "who would've thought they would've added a Pokemon Refresh option to the game."
<Dile!> the little Water-type cried, his tail wiggling behind him before he waddled forward, eager for the attention from his Trainer. Adrien blinked down at the crocodile, blanking for a moment, before he shifted a little.
"Ah. Right. Yeah. Refresh. Right. I, uh. Guess I should do something, right?"
<Dile!> Exochomper agreed, jumping up and pointing at one of the prompt windows that popped up and- A squeaky toy? The Totodile wanted a squeaky toy?
Well. Who was Adrien to deny him?
Shrugging loudly, he reached to pluck the rubber toy from the window, ears perking up in surprise when it turned solid in his grasp before he tossed it to the Totodile. "Uh? Here?" Immediately, Exochomper launched himself at the toy, grabbing it with his flippers and growling as he bit down on it with his jaws, shaking his head what little bit he could with how little give the toy had to offer him, the rubber offering weak little squeaking noises as he landed, rolling on the ground as he kept trying to tear at his toy, hind flippers kicking at it now as he grunted and growled.
"R-right," Adrien mumbled, stepping back a little before he coughed. "Well. Enjoy, I guess. You earned it," he offered before the Totodile slowly faded away, the squeaks of his new toy lingering even after the Pokemon had retreated back to his ball.
That was... definitely the weirdest thing he'd done yet so far in the game. By far.

"All right," Adrien stated as he came around the corner, arms full of a number of brushes and other grooming supplies that were included in this section of the stables in Briarbane Settlement - no doubt for exactly this purpose, looking after the various hooved ride Pokemon that would be stabled here for care, "Let's take a look at you, Wild."
<Ta,> the Fire-type snorted, stomping one hoof on the ground, but since she was locked into the UI herself, all she could do was look mildly annoyed as her Trainer came around and set the bundles of brushes down on a long bench, sorting through them with a flick of his tail.
"We can start by brushing out your fur, I guess?" he stated, pulling out a shorter brush with a long handle that looked almost like a vaccuum cleaner attachment. "I'd say the mane and tail, but I don't think I can really comb out fire." He stepped in close then, starting up high on her neck and brushing downwards in what had initially been longer strokes only to end up shifting to short and quick when he saw the way she was shedding off dirt and fur under his brush. "Huh, maybe I should've started by rinsing you off with a ba-" he mused.
Only to be cut off with a loud yelp as the Ponyta slammed her hoof down directly on his foot. "Ow!" Immediately, the Trainer crumpled, the fur of his tail fluffing out like a feather boa as he dropped the brush and stumbled backwards - thankfully out of range of his Pokemon. His fingers reached up, tugging at his head until he closed them around the headset and yanked it off, violently disconnecting to pant heavily in his bed, foot throbbing in painful memory of what had happened only a few moments prior.
"Got it," he panted, collapsing back down again onto the bed, "No baths for the Ponyta."

It had been a few days since Adrien had logged on, still smarting from the last encounter with his Ponyta - so it probably shouldn't have been that much of a surprise when he logged back in directly into the Refresh session. Wildfyre was gone from the grooming spot in the barn, but the brushes were still scattered about from earlier, and he sighed, tail flicking behind him as he crouched down to start gathering them up. By all rights, he probably should quit while he was already behind, but...
When the prompt window popped up, he hit the button to select his Ponyta again, the Trainer maintaining eye contact with the Fire-type for a long moment before he clicked his tongue, ears flattening on his head and tail swishing. "All right. Look. I get that you don't really like me, but the thing is, you're stuck with me, yeah? So we can either learn to deal with each other or we can make this a whole lot worse." The Ponyta snorted, pawing at the ground with narrowed eyes, but didn't say a word as she watched her Trainer turn back towards the bench...
Only to jerk her head up sharply with a snort when he turned around again, the bucket in his arms and tipping it in her direction. "Which one of these am I supposed to use on you?"
The Fire-type blinked before she leaned forward to tug a large, rubbery circular brush from the tub, dropping it on the ground in front of him - and he took the hint, grumbling a soft "You could have just handed it to me, you know" as he bent down to grab it before straightening up and starting to brush. At first, he was a little awkward, stroking along with the weave of her fur, but after a few snorts and pointed shoves, he got the hint to rub in circular motions, pulling up loose fur from her pelt and working over her muscles in a way that saw her relaxing. Maybe the human isn't so bad after al-
Adrien couldn't have told you how he knew. He really couldn't - he'd never been around horses (or many animals at all, for that matter) and he certainly hadn't played the game long enough to be able to notice any cues... and yet, his body instinctively moved backwards, narrowly dodging the snap of teeth from a muzzle he hadn't even seen move. Golden eyes widened as they stared at the Ponyta, his tail fluffed up and heart racing, before he swallowed, noticing the nock of darkness in the bright flames dancing on her neck. The nock that he'd...
"... Sorry," he mumbled. "I... sorry." Silence reigned as the two stared at each other for a long moment before she snorted, leaning forward to knock her muzzle against his hand before disappearing, the session ending as she returned back to her Pokeball.

It was only because he felt bad about fainting the little guy.
Adrien sat himself down out in the grass, a flick of his wrist pulling up his UI - he was getting better at that, a little more used to it at this point - and selecting the little Phanpy where it was in the menu, then the option to bring him out of his Pokeball. "All right, Bubba-" he began, his tail swishing behind him with a jingle of metal-
Only for the Phanpy to immediately burst into tears, sending the Trainer's ears darting back up again. "Whoa whoa whoa whoa hey! Hey, it's okay, c'mon now." He scooted himself in closer and reached out, stroking the little Ground-type's head with a hand. "Shhh, it's okay."
With a loud little cry, the little Ground-type threw himself forwards. "Ack!" he yelped, easily bowled over by the powerful little Phanpy... but immediately, he softened, wincing as he lifted a hand and stroked up and down the bright blue skin. "There, see? It's not so bad. Shhh." He kept petting, murmuring soft little reassurances until the tears slowed down and the little Ground-type peeked up at him, sniffling a little from his trunk. "C'mon, little guy. I bet you'd feel better to get some bandaids on you." he murmured, hoping to build on that start.
And, luckily enough, it seemed like Bubba was amenable to it - the little Phanpy sniffled but shuffled off his Trainer with a soft little <Py>, watching with big, wet eyes as the other sat up and brought up the menu again, trailing his way through it until he found the right section - medicine and herbs. A few taps later and he had a few Oran berries in his hand, which he offered to the sniffly little elephant to keep him calm while he carefully patted clean the bumps and bruises on the little guy from his earlier battle with Exochomper. <Phan?> the little Phanpy questioned, glancing back at him curiously when he felt the dampness pull away from his skin without coming back, and Adrien smiled softly.
"Shhh, it's all right. Just getting your bandaids ready now," he promised, giving the little guy a pat before he found himself some ointment this time, which he applied onto a little Pikachu bandaid that he carefully stuck onto the Phanpy before, on a momentary impulse, he leaned down and brushed his lips against the plastic cover. "There. All better."
<Phanpy!> the little Ground-type agreed, butting his Trainer (and sending him stumbling backwards before he caught himself with a hastily thrown hand and a puffed up tail) before slowly fading out, disappearing back into his Pokeball.

"All right, Bubba," Adrien called as he puffed himself up, tail flicking behind him to the merry jingle of gold, "we... are going to be teaching you to use that strength for good."
<Phan?> The Phanpy paused in where he'd been bouncing happily around a glaring Exochomper, the little Totodile having tried snapping at him a few more times with no success, before he scampered over to Adrien, giving the Water-type some peace to return back to his Pokeball.
"Yes, hi," he murmured with a rueful shake of his head when the Phanpy let out a little cry, rearing up on his little hind legs and reaching up with his snout towards Adrien's hand, just wanting a pat from his Trainer before Adrien wrangled him down. "Now. I want you to push me over, okay?"
<Phan?> Bubba tipped his head to the side cutely, not understanding. Push Adrien over? Why would he push Adrien over? That didn't sound like a game?
"C'mon. Do it."
<Phanpy...> Well... If Adrien insisted.... The Phanpy jumped forward, putting all of his little might into bowling the Trainer down as he collided with his legs.
"Oof!" Adrien grunted as he was immediately knocked over - just as he knew he would be, of course, the Phanpy had been throwing Exochomper around like he was nothing and shoving even him down here and there when he wanted to - but it was progress. Training progress. Progress in making Bubba into a conscious battler rather than someone who was just wanting to play.
Bubba blinked before he turned around and- Oh. Oh that had been. Kind of fun. <Py?> he questioned, tipping his head to the side.
"All right, go again," Adrien murmured as he sat up.
<Py!> Bubba bounced in place for a moment before diving forwards again, bowling his Trainer back down to the ground, clearly getting more into the game.
"Ack!" The Trainer squawked as he went down this time, ears flattening, and they darted even further back into his hair when he saw the little Ground-type already bounding forward to go again, and- Okay. Maybe it hadn't been the best idea to train Bubba himself, but in his defense... Yeah okay he had nothing. "Whoa, whoa, hey! That's enough!" he stated hurriedly, holding up his hands.
But it was too late. "Ack!" The Phanpy collided right with his middle, sending him flying backwards until he landed with a heavy "Oof" and laid there for a few minutes - long enough for a little blue snout to come snuffling at him worriedly because he hadn't gotten up. With a sigh, he reached up to pat it, not wanting the little guy to think he was mad. "What am I gonna do with you..." he mumbled with a shake of his head, even as the little Phanpy wiggled and squirmed closer to his touch, eager for the attention.
What was he going to do indeed.
