Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

If it wasn’t one thing, it was another. It felt like it was never going to end. Yet, here she was late at night unable to sleep. Sure. If she would’ve laid down for several hours, the sand man might have blessed her with peaceful sleep. However, sleep seemed to be avoiding her with her mind running non-stop from the day. Instead, Wolf choice to hop online. It’s even a while since she was online. And honestly, Wolf felt rusty. So instead of hopping into a raid battle or quest, the hybrid kept her online session simple. Catch a pokemon. Of course, the player had to read up on a bunch of new information first. And that, too a while. Still, she was eager to explore Birchwild Grove again. Tired, yet wide awake. Pale golden orbs flickered over digital land, ready to see what she could find.

Instead of her mixed creature lot she was leaning towards, she went with what she always wanted to do. A canine team. A bold move, but something she always wanted to do. Of course, this would exclude any special pokemon. Speaking of special pokemon, Wolf finally was about to get enough DNA for a zygrade. But now, she had a new task. Wolf has to learn how to build in the game. Great. She was never good at that. All well. At least, no one could judge her here. It’s for her pokemon, and no one else. The only thing that had to like whatever she built was the egg itself. Which, shouldn’t be too hard. Right? A heavy sigh escaped her, strolling deeper into the wild grass of the birchwild grove.

Within seconds, the ebony fur of a houndour materialized. Her lips lifted, baring her teeth at the wild pokemon as it emerged from out of the tall grass. The wild shroomish frozen, eyes wide at the sight of an aggressive canine and a taller creature behind it. A snarl ripped through the fire and dark types throat, intimidation in full effect. “It’s just a sroomish,” the woman sighed, clearly disappointed with it, “Let’s go. I don’t want one of those.” With that, the half wolf and half human turned to continue the search. The houndour let out a snort at the grass type, turning to follow after the player though occasionally looked back to be sure they weren’t being followed. Behind them, the shroomish let out a sigh of relief.

Her mouth gapped open, a tired yawn consumed her. Yet, the sand man didn’t make her feel tired enough to sleep. Even as she let out a heavy sigh and continued to move, exhaustion still escaped her. “Why is it that when you want to sleep, you can. And when you can’t sleep, it’s hard to stay awake.” The houndour by her side titled her head, pointed black ears perched forward. “If you are tired, then go to sleep.” Wolf’s gaze fell upon the canine, a slight annoyance in her tone. “I tried.” This puzzled the canine, unable to understand what the player was talking about. “What do you mean you tried?” “Nevermind-“ Wolf replied bitterly with a sigh, gaze returning to the path before her. “Just keep an eye out for pokemon.” Azula let out a snort.

While the hybrid simply turned to the creature, the houndour went into the defensive. Ebony lips lifted, pearly whites being bared at the grass and normal type as it emerged from the tall grass. A low snarl ripped through her throat, ears fell back and stubby tail raised. Panic filled the deerling, eyes wide and all. It was quick to turn and flee, darting off so quickly that it was kind of impressive. Azula snarled, springing into action the chase down the foe. “No,” the player called out, head shook in a no, “Leave it. It’s not worth it.” Azula halted in her tracks, head whipped around to see her handler already moving in the opposite direction. She growled, turning to follow after her.

It darn near startled the woman, taking a step back and gasping. The deerling stopped in its tracks, glancing back at her with wild fearful eyes. Wolf casted it a questionable look, the houndour at her side emitted a low growl and bared its teeth. Wolf expected for it to turn and fight, like most pokemon in the game do. However, the deerlings eyes got even wide. It turned, running away from them. What was going on?

That, was strange for unvor. Yet, it seemed at it was all natural. Like a deer in real life, running from being hunted by the prey. Regardless, the battle music stopped leaving her and her canine to continue to venture further into the wild. Maybe, the could run into whatever it was clearly running from.
