Genesis was watching their step rather carefully and trying to ignore the way their gut quivered at the sight of the ground far, far below them and the rickety, already-occupied wooden steps that served as their only way back down. Fear of heights was one of the more rational common fears, Shiloh always maintained, and it was all too easy to imagine falling to one's death here.
Though the game probably wouldn't allow that. The steps were probably programmed to be sturdier than they looked. Probably.
At least Genesis didn't have the scar Shiloh had from that tree-climbing incident gone wrong to remind them of the damage that one wrong step could do when up in the air...
But never mind all that. Something had darted past, and they were making headway on the plot of this Tower... such as it was, anyway. And all they needed to do to progress further was keep fulfilling the simple prompts thrown their way. This particular prompt wasn't a problem for Genesis. Hell, they'd just done the same prompt on a whim over in the Tower of Cats.
This section of the tree really didn't look like it could support Merdeka's weight, but somehow the Duraludon's summoning from her Poke Ball didn't cause the whole kit and caboodle to come crashing down on top of them. Thankfully. Though that would be an easier way of getting down to the bottom of the tree again...
"Dragon Tail!"
Genesis tried to focus their attention on why Breaking Swipe and Dragon Tail had such different names and effects despite both being Dragon-type moves involving flinging your tail at the opponent--the animation in here was almost identical, they noted--and not how the steps looked like they'd blow over if somebody so much as sneezed the wrong way at them.
It was an uphill battle, metaphorically if not literally...

First it was a lot of climbing up, and then now tight stairs down... Verai wasn't out of shape by any stretch, but he wasn't quite used to it. He certainly wasn't used to it with giant birds screaming and swooping at his head constantly. "Can you do something about this?" He hissed. Kitten, who was wrapped around his scalp, said nothing, just staring at the birds and hissing at the uselessly when they crept too close.
It was Sphinx who came to Verai's side, looking dismissively at the creatures everywhere. Verai struggled to keep his balance between the large cat, the birds, and the stairs. <This is... unsightly.> He said, ears flattened. No matter. He looked up, towards the pidgeotto, ears drooping as he widened his eyes, glossy and tear-stricken.
The pidgeotto fell from the sky.

'Worming' her way inside the tree when she'd only just caught up with the others wasn't exactly what Momo had been hoping for, but she'd never been one to fear getting dirty. The passage was narrow, smooth wood scraping her shoulders as she turned sideways to fit inside. She couldn't help but duck when a Pidgeotto exploded up from a nest on the ground, squawking in rage. In such tight quarters she had no space to face it head-on, so she crouched. "Masamune, go!"A fairy-type move was needed, and the round, serious-looking Igglybuff who materialized was the first Pokemon who came to mind. "We need a fairy move. Can you do it?" Her tone was even. Even with a shrieking raptor swooping at her head, she was able to maintain her calm. <Of course.> Masamune inhaled, body expanding like a pink balloon, then let out a burst of sound. It sounded like <HA!>Frightened by the sudden Disarming Voice, the Pidgeotto flapped away back into the tree canopy, leaving feathers drifting behind. For a moment, Momo saw a flash of something green wiggling away into the darkness. She frowned. What was that?Well, the only way to go now was down.Igglybuff used disarming voice! Blackthorne had been under the impression that selecting the button to get to the Tree of Worms would, y'know, maybe send him to the front of the tree. Or, maybe at the latest cleared room? Floor? Area? Whatever. But... no, he spawned in on the inside of the tree, stumbling down a thin curling stairwell, harried by far too many birds. "This- is- ridiculous!" He huffed, twisting back to see the pidgeotto swooping at him. He had to do something- He pawed at the ui, trying to find a prompt-
Okay, okay- He could do that! Darien grabbed at his pokeball, tossing it up to release the espeon, whho fell into pace beside him. "Regent! You've- you've got fairy moves, right? We need your help!"
<Right!> She said, launching herself up into the air to whirl, and face the pigeotto- eyes flashing not ominously, but almost sweetly.
A pigeotto wavered, knocked out of the sky- and Damien noticed something bright, just for an instant. Was that-?

Lacrimosa was devoted to seeking out information wherever he could, but… this was so dull. A hollowed out tree full of birds. It was a pain more than anything, and instead of panicked he simply looked annoyed as he walked down the inside of the tree.
<There’s so many…> Wysteria’s baby soft eyes were wide with wonder that went unshared. She froze as a massive Pidgeotto swooped in front of her, screeching. <Lacrimosa!>
He glanced back at the squeak of terror. Right. He was meant to be a dutiful trainer. ”You can do it!” Lacrimosa called back at the little cat.
She blinked, confused. ….she could? With renewed vigor, she lunged, snapping at the bird’s wing and bringing it down.

A tree of worms! Worm friends! Rose was super excited when she learned about the whole ordeal, and instinctively wanted to bring Wyne- whatever her Caterpie's name was, to meet them! But it seemed that it was filled with birds instead, who were being quite greedy and mean!
"Humph!" Rose stomped her feet all upset, staring at the mean Pidgeotto birds. The inside of the tree was super neat, but that's why she brought her own big bird to help teach the mean birds a lesson.
"I really don't know if this is the right course of action, dearie." Gerana the Bombirdier began, only to glance down at her trainer to see how genuinely upset she was, and sigh.
"Alright, to protect the worms-"
"Wormies! They're friends!"
"Alright, wormies." Genera chuckled quietly, spreading their wings as they flew forwards. With a powerful strike with the move Thief, the Bombirdier not only molly whopped one of the opposing birds, but they yoinked the whole nest to boot in their pouch, and began flying away with it, forcing some of the naughty birds to follow after if they wanted it back!

Tower of Worms Floor 7: Wet and Wormderful You follow the lime green sliver downwards. Down into the deep, damp dark, where you can hear running water and barely see your own feet.
The massive roots and barkways beneath your feet are thick with moss and slime, and the precipitation sluices along them, creating natural slip'n'slides in the dark.
The paths meet in shallow pools, only to diverge again, carrying you deeper and deeper down into the darkest depths of the tree of worms.
Follow the slippery paths, but beware! Pidgeotto are using the water slides too, and they are far more hydrodynamic than you. Dally too long and you'll be in for a slide-by pecking!
You have defeated 10 Pidgey and unlocked Burmy (U)! The next reward (Applin) will be unlocked at 70 Pidgey.

Continuing through the tower of worms leads him to a place full of slippery paths and slip n’ slides.
At least one of them is enjoying it, though.
<WEEEEEEEEE!> Buizel squeals, going down the waterslide on her belly. Kazuki follows right behind her, keeping watch for any incoming obstacles.
“Bird incoming!” Kazuki hisses, trying to dodge, but is hit by one passing beak.
Buizel, however, delights in not only the ride, but the in-flight meal! She opens her mouth, rearing for a BITE.

Sarah and Focus shot along the tunnels, protected and propelled by a barrier of Psychic energy.
"Going left!" Focus called, and the pair leaned to the side as Braixen shunted them down one side of a split path. They skimmed through a shallow pool, but didn't stop. There were beaks in these waters. They shot down a ramp covered in wet lichen and around a tight corner, spraying an arc of mossy water into the air, and attracting the jealous eyes of the birds.
"We got company! Coming in from behind!" Sarah called, and the sliding bird behind her screeched a battlecry as it slid past, pecking the pair ruthlessly. "Damn bird! Go back to the skies!"
It didn't matter if this was their tree, there was something very unnatural about having to deal with birds while on a slip'n'slide.
Focus grinned, and with a wave of her wand she created a shimmering Psychic call that sent the bird flying up into the air. Not in their lane and not their problem anymore. Prompt #62: [Tower]yrL7F7pJ1d501d50

The floors go up, but they go downwards instead; down to the root system of the tree. Even though in the back of his mind Muin knows none of this is actually real, there's a sense of marvel and wonder when looking at the roots — the marvel and wonder of someone who is actually quite fond of botany and all things of the sort.
That marvel and wonder, however, is quickly replaced by dread when he quite literally slips into a slide.
"Good gods."
<'WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!'> Clearly, the Rowlet clinging to his shoulder is having a much better time than him, and as great as that is, Muin sure isn't appreciative of the way her sharp talons dig into his skin. And speaking of talons... in his peripheral, he can clearly see some headed straight for them where the root they're on and another almost intersect.
"Nin, on your left."
<'HEY YOU!'> The Rowlet points at the Pidgey, much to its astonishment. Is she threatening enough for that? Apparently so, if judging by the eerie aura that currently surrounds her. <'YEAH, YOU! LEAVE US ALONE! WE'RE HAVING FUN HERE AND YOU'RE KILLING THE MOOD!'>

Stable pathing gives way to natural fonts. Water and moss urges them downwards Tiernan only able to keep himself upright, and marvel at what the tree has become. Falin'rush, though, is more than capsble. He sees apidgey coming, and with a quick rush of his wings, bombards the creature before it can draw too near.

Orion growled, sidestepping slide pecking pidgeys that tried to persistently punish his pursuits to procure pestlike pokes. This was getting old, Discoes, Constructions sites, and now waterparks? Fuck this. Orion took a few sure steps and then flung himself a slippery stream, chasing after the last offending pidgey like a bowling ball down a freshly oiled lane. Or...he would have had he been half the man he was, the sheer friction of moss on his back was enough to drag him to a screeching halt, back scraped to hell as he let out a hiss. "Fuuuuuuck this, gettim Triton."
With a flick he sent out his Carvanha, which did slide down the water flume and found itself barreling like the aforementioned bowling ball metaphor down into a catch pool with the previous pidgey who'd perhaps predicted a lack of pursuit, was paling around presumptuously. Triton cried havoc and let loose it's mighty teeth, chowing down on the pidgey like one might a KFC five dollar fill up box, though it lacked the flavor of the eleven herbs and spices and didn't come with a biscuit, side, and drink. Tragic, not the brutal bird butchering of course, that was baddass, but the lack of a great deal.
Anyways.
Orion uses the premier Hoen bird bruncher to get even.

Yggy shot down the slip'n'slide, yelling "Cowabunga!"Ahead of her was a bright green worm she couldn't quite make out in the darkness, but between her and the worm was a Pidgeotto! The bird had its wings tucked like a diving falcon, making it a perfect torpedo shape. It was like water off a duck's back. Or a duck off the water's back? Oh, hoop! That gave her an idea! "Come on out, Ducker!"The Farfetch'd appeared in a flash of light, immediately gaining speed on the Pidgeotto with its superior water-repelling feathers. He shot past the Pidgeotto, ejecting it from the slip'n'slide with an indignant squawk. But they still weren't fast enough to catch that worm! "Full speed ahead! BREAKNECK BLITZ!" Yggy yelled, bumping her elbows on the slick sides of the slide as she attempted to do a Z-Pose while sliding flat on her belly. Brilliant white light burst from Ducker's form as the mallard ignited like a normal-type rocket engine, propelling them forward to new heights. Or depths! G.FARFETCH'D USED BREAKNECK BLITZ! Aero was back in the Tower of Worms again and she was very excited at the prospect of getting a new Pokemon on her team. Of course, that would mean dealing with a lot of nasty Pidgey coming towards her. This time, she was prepared as she took out her Fuecoco and they started running away the moment they saw a flock charging towards them, which she expected.
"I've already been in this tower before and I'm not planning to become bird food on our return trip!" Aero declared. "Coco, use Incinerate!"
Her Fuecoco proceeded to spew out large flames toward the flock without any hesitation.

The whole slip and slide get-up here was... better than those unsteady wooden stairs from before, at least. Not that that said much of anything in Genesis' book. But it was a step in the right direction, at least, both literally and metaphorically.
Just had to take out a few more birds along the way first...
"Arecibo?"
Genesis didn't even have to name the attack they wanted the Frogadier to use; their starter Pokemon was used to the command by now, enough that all it took was calling his name and shooting him a slight nod of the head. The rocks he shot up by Smack Down hit the wild bird Pokemon squarely, and feathers flew everywhere as the birds fell down, down, down into the hollow of the tree.
Better the birds fall than Genesis themself, they figured...
