Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

She had a fun plan for how to get involved in the big Valentine's Day-related event, and was looking forward to putting it into action as she headed off to the Misty Timberlands. "You see, Mr. Toad, while most people would use a fishing rod to catch fish, I intend to fish by casting a net," Rina explained to her Paras as she walked along the trail towards the pond. "You can catch more fish at once that way. I'm sure we'll find at least one that Mr. Blarney would like." Well, that was how it worked in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, so surely it would work just as well here. <Mr. Toad finds this plan to be logically sound,> Mr. Toad replied. <However, Mr. Toad would like to add that it includes an element of additional risk. Snaring multiple Pokémon at once may lead to a difficult battle.> Rina smiled. "That's true," she said, "but we're not going to be doing this on our own. We're supposed to meet up with another trainer. Don't you think spending time fishing together is a good way to get to know someone?" Arriving at the side of the pond, Rina brought out her fishing net and waited for someone else to come along and join her.

The trees groaned, seeming to part before her evil and villainous silhouette. Evergreen boughs on either side of the path seemed to bow before her as their needles turned to stone before her eyes. At last, the mists cleared, and a triumphant (for some reason) girl with a big forehead was revealed. Under one arm she held the symbol of True Wealth: a Rare Gold Calico Magikarp. It stared ahead of itself, numb and sightless as a plastic replica. "I have three questions for you!" she announced without any lead-up, pointing directly at the blonde child Celastrina Nestlewood. "One! What's your favorite fish Pokemon?" "Two! What are your thoughts on marriage?" "And three! Did you bring a Fishing Rod? Because mine is broken." Morgana flaunted her broken rod like a pair of nunchucks, unaware of Celestrina's cunning plan to use a net instead. "The tale of how it broke is harrowing," she said, though nobody had asked anything, and narrowed her eyes. *"Are you sure you want to hear it? Well,* if you insist." She sat down on a rock, crossing her legs and placing the motionless Magikarp on its side in her lap. Bergamot made it her job in this game to be much more annoying than any mandatory cutscene. "It's simple. I was in the middle of telling the Longest Joke in the World when it happened- oh, have you heard the joke?"** In the depths of the pond, a dark shape swam back and forth, drawn by the sound of the voices above it. But when she looked up to greet the newcomer, she instead saw a young woman who must have shaken the trees solely through the power of Dramatic Entrance. Before Rina could even introduce herself, the woman launched into a series of questions. "I guess... Horsea," was Rina's reply to the first question, after a pause to regather her thoughts. Misty's Horsea was pretty cute back in the early anime episodes, after all. Next, Rina was asked for her thoughts on marriage. "Well, um... it's an important way for adults to show their love for each other," she replied. "It's like saying you're going to live happily ever after... at least that's the hope." It didn't always work out that way in reality, but it made sense for Rina to be a bit more optimistic about it. Rina didn't even have the chance to answer the third question, as Morgana began chatting away. Rina made a few attempts to try to cut in as politely as possible, but in the end, she simply handed over her fishing rod and turned her attention back to the pond. She tossed the net, letting it spread out over the water before sinking into the depths with its weights. Her eyes shone with triumph. "Oho! A foolish move, handing your fishing rod to the enemy..." the young woman said, stroking the pole the way villains stroked persian cats in movies. "What makes you think I'll give this back?" She spun around like a magnificent ballet dancer, blue skirts flaring in a perfect bell shape. "One... two... three!" She stopped suddenly, swaying in place at the sudden change of momentum, and threw out a hand. She made a perfect cast with Celastrina's Fishing Rod into the pond. Morgana wasn't unhinged, she was just uninhibited. It was fun to play a villain on UNOVR, which (in her opinion) lacked suitably villainous NPCs. The amount of damage she could do was limited since, of course, you couldn't actually steal players' items or Pokemon without making a trade request, and PVP was strictly disallowed. She couldn't even pull the Sword-Art-Online strategy of knocking someone out and using their finger to access their UI while they were unconscious - players de-spawned immediately after whiting out. Why did there have to be shrines everywhere? It was ruining her mojo. "So back to the story," Bergamot said, barely watching as Celestrina successfully netted a large and suspiciously dingy Mantyke. "I'd almost finished telling the joke I just told you when I heard a sound. It sounded like, choo! Choo!" She pitched her voice in a high, sweet tone, like a child imitating a train. "Why, I was terrified, of course, so I summoned my most powerful Mudkip to fight it. Then, before I could even cry 'Tackle'— oh, I have a bite!" Morgana reeled suddenly (and literally) as she felt a tug on the other end of the fishing rod. "This rod is quite good quality. Is it the default?"
