ENTERING THE TALL GRASS!
loading... When a Wild PKMN appears, reply using the ATTACK button to weaken it! You may reply as many times in a row as it takes to knock out the Wild PKMN. But watch out— it may fight back! You may also choose to RETREAT from the Wild Pokemon. Your Retreat automatically succeeds and you are free to request a new spawn in the same thread. If your PKMN faints, you must go to the closest SHRINE to restore your PKMN. When the Wild PKMN's HP reaches 10% or below, up to two players may choose to capture it for -25 BYTES. Please post in Automatic Deduction (-25) to complete your capture and close the thread!

A forest in perpetual autumn.
"Eh... It's aesthetic, I guess."
By which The Captain of course means "Nice, but not really my thing." It's unique. The sort of place that can seem wonderous to visit, at the very least. It'd be great if he had his camera with him and maybe, just maybe, there's more to it...

The Captain may know his way in the oceans, he may have mastered the seas and currents, but a place like a forest is a completely different beast, and as his bad luck would have it, he does forget one very important rule: watch your step.
A blood-curdling scream startles him, causing him to stumble back. Is it a Banshee or something?! No, it's a giant worm-leaf-thing that he had apparently stepped on.
"Oh... Sorry little dude, my bad."
Offended, the Sewaddle crawls away, although not without first leaving The Captain with a serious ear ache.

Having now been forced to remember the grave importance of looking down, The Captain is now more careful as he continues to walk down the path — watching his surroundings from beneath the brim of his hat.
Is another Pokémon about to jump down and attack him? From where?
This time, he'll be ready for sure.
"Come at me." He demands, not even bothering to whisper. He's not a man for stealth, alright?

Oh shit, that thing looks angry.
Like... real angry.
"Woah, little dude. Calm down." The Captain gets out of the way just in time to avoid the vicious attack of the... spotted thing? It tries to charge head first right into him, and he avoids it by a mere inch. Now, kicking animals is always wrong, but kicking a pokemon had worked like a charm last time, so maybe he should try again?
He does have Charlie, but truth be told... The Captain has no idea how to call out a Pokémon just yet.

Works like a charm. When The Captain kicks the... mushroom-thing — Yeah, it looks like a mushroom — its send flying back, tumbling down a small hill and falling right into a pile of leaves. The Captain takes this chance to slip away, caring little for a fight like this.
So, anyway, where was he?
Ah, yes, exploring the woods. That's going pretty well, isn't it? Exciting!... Maybe he should climb a tree to get a better view of his surroundings.

"You know... I'm starting to get real tired here." Who is he even talking to? Probably those nearby leaves that wiggle when he approaches, soon turning out to be yet another little green Pokémon. There's a lot of those, huh?
"Okay, okay, I'll leave you alone." The Captain laughs, raising his hands, but then again, do Pokémon even understand that kind of stuff? Probably not, right?

"Hmm... Okay, so... which way was I going?"
After having lost all of his HP, having the screen fade to black, and waking up next to what he soon learned was the noonlight shrine, The Captain tried to make his way back to where he had been before, but all these birch trees look the same even to someone with his spectacular navigation senses.
"Hmm...."
He settles for walking north. That should be just fine, right?

A... cotton ball? With leaves for ears? Is that what that thing floating a few metres away is?
"Ha..." The Captain stares at it, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Aren't you a cute little guy? Harmless and cuddly, huh?"
Famous last words?
This particular Cottonee happens to be more of the vicious sort, leaving our captain to run away through the woods when it attacks him with terrible and sparkly wind.

It's while he's in the middle of running away from the sparkly wind that our idea occurs to our dear captain: maybe he should try that catching thing with the next Pokémon that shows up! He had watched some episodes of the Pokémon show with Neri before and that's what the kids in that always do, right? They throw those little red and white balls and then the Pokémon become their friends! Easy as can be!
There must be some of those in his inventory, right? But... How the hell to open that?
The Captain stops running, and looking through his HUD, he attempts to search for any possible sign of an answer to this question of his.

"AHA!" Is a cry of success warranted in this case? Our Captain seems to think so, because he all-but-screams it when a Pokéball appears in his hands after much fiddling with his UI. Of course, the appearance of this Pokéball comes followed by a message telling him the Pokémon he looks at cannot be caught yet.
Said Pokémon is one of those leaf-worm thing he had seen before. Maybe it's even the same one.
"The hell? When do I catch it, then?"
Reading a guide would probably help, but you know... why bother with that, right? It's just a game! If he can figure out things with no guides in real life, surely he can do so in a game as well!
So The Captain thinks, at least.

The leaf-worm thing runs towards him, headbutting his leg. The Captain exclaims, this time in shock and slight pain, but when he looks down at the Pokémon, he just ends up blinking in confusion.
"Little man, what the hell?"
It headbutts him again.
That's when it occurs to him that maybe he needs to immobilize (or something like that) the Pokémon if he wants to catch it. You know... catch it physically first! That would make sense, right? Totally!
And so, our Captain sets out to try to tackle a little bug.

In the process of tackling the wild Pokémon, another one of those red and white spheres falls out of The Captain's pocket, but this one happens to not have been empty. It's the same one Professor Ash gave him back at her lab up in those grass plains with all the iron spires, and from it, emerges a... little flaming monkey?
<'Hey, man. You need any help with that?'>
"Huh? Where did you come from? Eh... Sure, have at it."
What is it that people say? Never look a gift horse in the mouth? His aunt is always saying it, but it sure sounds better in Spanish. Anyway...that! Our Captain lives by the rule of not whining about things that are free in this life.

"Ha! Look at you go!" The Captain exclaims when the little monkey shoots a... ball of fire at the bug. It's pretty damn sick, even if good ol' capt himself barely has time to get out of the way.
At least he's not the one being headbutted by the bug now, right? He probably should give the little monkey name...
Such are the things The Captain muses on while watching the fight, soon finding a tall birch to lean against as if his clothes weren't covered in dirt and leaf litter now.

"You know, usually when bugs are burning they kinda up and die." But that would probably be a little too brutal, right? Is that it? Are they giving bugs a fighting chance or are they making it all be more PG for the kids? Maybe giant bugs are much resilient than smaller ones. But, then again, that can't be right... lobsters and stuff are basically bugs and they're still pretty damn easy to kill, so what gives?
<'Pfft! It'll up and die soon!'> The monkey declares, spitting out another fireball towards the bug.
"Hmm... I think I'm gonna call you Charles."
