To be fair, there was a storm, and it doesn't take a lifelong sailor to know that you don't just sail through a storm — especially when in a small sailboat and alone. Remy is a lifelong sailor, though. He spends his days sailing around the world. So... maybe he should have dedicated a little more time looking at the weather and planning a safer route instead of expecting the storm to be a mild one and relying on the fact that "It'll be fine, I've sailed through rough seas a thousand times before". Maybe, if he had done that, he wouldn't have missed his daughter's eighth birthday. Or, maybe he still would have for some other reason. That's just the way it is with Remy. Careless, reckless, and completely selfish. That's what people call him often, at least (especially his exes). A manchild, they would say. And, what would he say in response? "Eh, they all just need to live a little." Why not, right? Who needs to be careful? Who needs to make intricate plans? Those things are only meant for when things get really tough. Throw caution to the wind! Follow your heart! Do what makes you happy! Have some fun! Remy always has fun. The moment things get boring, he turns tail and runs (or, as he would call it: "he goes find himself a more interesting path"). Two years of university wasted because "Man... It's Marine Biology, I shouldn't be spendin' more time in a classroom than in the ocean. That's fucked." Of course he dropped out and sailed away as soon as he saved up enough to buy himself a boat! And it sure was smooth sailing for a while, let me tell you! Sailing around the globe, going to new places, meeting new people, and doing all sorts of amazing things was The Life, and he didn't even mind getting into underwater photography and doing odd jobs to get by. Eventually, underwater photography even started to pay pretty damn well, and he made a name for himself in the field. He even found someone he wanted to sail with during that time! But, that eight month long relationship with a woman he once called "The One"?... Well, eventually he left because she decided to stop sailing after finally finding a place where she wanted to spend the rest of her life (to be fair, neither of them knew she was pregnant at the time). Now, don't get me wrong, Remy loves his daughter very much, more than anything in life (other than her younger half-brother, they obviously share the that title), and he does visit her often and talk to her every week, but... he's just not the kind of person who would do well settling down, you know? It did seem like he would at one point: years later, when he lived in the Cook Islands and his son was born, but the seas called to him again not long after Nīkau turned two, and just like that, that was that. Despite this endlessly thrill-seeking, seafaring nature of his, Remy would do just about anything for his children (except staying in one place, apparently). He loves spending time with them, talking to them, bringing them gifts from all over the world, and telling them stories. Even when he can't always be there, he still turned up at his ex's place in Cartagena two days after Nerissa's birthday, armed with an apology and a very special gift: a copy of UNOVR and a WorldScreen so they can spend more time together while playing Pokémon like she loves to do! Was it responsible of him to convince her mother that eight years old was old enough for deep dive VR? Probably not, but hey, at least they'll be spending more time together from now on, right? Bless the wonder that is satellite internet for allowing him to go online in the middle of fucking nowhere — it sure is helpful when it comes to regularly updating his travel blog and TikTok.

INSIDE THE GAME "You're the captain and I'm your first mate! "Ha! Is that so? Alright: avast ye, me hearty!" Just like that, a name was decided upon and there was no room for argument. The Captain. The. Having the article before the noun matters, according to his daughter, because she had recently been learning about grammatical articles in school and was very proud of herself for that one. How could he say no to that? But, name aside, The Captain is Remy just as everyone knows him to be... aside from a few key differences. Sure, he didn't get to replicate all his actual tattoos just right and while on-brand, the pirate outfit is something he'd usually only wear for Halloween, but he still looks just like he actually does, down to the fit physique and everything. Well... Except for the dog ears and tail, doubtlessly. That part had started as a joke, because Jones — his dog — is a cream coloured Australian Kelpie and since Neri likes Jones so much, when Remy saw all the animal feature options in character creation, he thought she would find it funny if The Captain had ears and a tail just like Jones'. Afterwards he couldn't figure out how to completely get rid of those features without just changing them into something else, and so, The Captain now forever has a tribute to Remy's dog and unofficial first mate. The Captain is Remy, and Remy never cared for games before. He's daring, he's bold, and he's also chill, and a total joy, but... he doesn't have a clue what he's doing or know a single thing about how the game works. Will he figure it out? Probably! He can't look like a fool in front of the daughter who admires him, after all! Plus... Isn't discovery his greatest passion? He's got this. Totally. Not a problem at all! (Not)
