Well, that whole thing had gone shockingly well!
With her team now recalled, the Duraludon caught and goodbyes said to Taylor, Tamara was ready to try again. The older player had mentioned something about the side quest ending soon, so she figured she might as well keep hunting for a little while longer! Especially as that last steel-type had spawned almost as soon as she’d entered the Steppes!

Humming tunelessly, she scrolled through her box again, quite clearly not having learned her lesson about keeping a couple of pokemon out from the get go in case of ambush. She walked as she considered, moving deeper into the Steppes. Who had she been about to release when the Duraludon appeared, again?
Oh, that’s right, the unnamed Eevee! Now, who of the rest of the team would be useful for naming advice…

“Belle, it is,” she decided, releasing the Audino and Eevee with a couple of taps.
“Hi!” She greeted, beaming at the pair. Decibelle settled in at her side easily enough – she knew the drill here.
<Another steel-type hunt, is it?> The Audino checked, glancing around the area as she fell into step beside her trainer.
“Yep!” Tam confirmed cheerfully, smiling down at the Eevee at her heel. “And I thought we could look at figuring out a name for you while we’re here, little one!”

The normal-type perked up at this, her tail wagging behind her in excitement.
<I get a name?> She chirped, turning a few times on the spot as though she couldn’t possibly contain her anticipation and needed to release it in the form of movement. <What’s it going to be?!>
“Of course you get a name!” Tam laughed. “We just have to figure out what suits you!”

She grinned at the last question. “Well that’s just the thing – we don’t know yet!” When the Eevee’s ears dropped a little, she rushed to go on. “We have to find it together!”
She glanced over at Decibelle. “Any suggestions, Belle?”
The Audino’s head canted to the side as she thought. <Well,> she answered after a few moments. <Will you be evolving her, or keeping her as an Eevee?> That would definitely be an important consideration to take into account!

“Evolving, for sure!” The answer came easily, and the Eevee’s body language perked right up at this news.
<What will I be evolving into?> She asked, a little shyly.
“A Sylveon!” Tam beamed in response. “Is that okay with you?” She certainly hoped so, as she wasn’t sure what she’d do with an answer of no, to this. |

“Oh! Looks like we’ll have to finish this conversation later!” Tamara announced, as yet another Duraludon lumbered towards them. The Eevee blanched, never having faced such an opponent, while Decibelle stepped forwards; well-used to this by now.
A quick message was shot off to Taylor, before the blue-haired teen released another of her team. Cinder tended to do well in these battles – her fighting-typing extremely advantageous against the steel dragons.

Taylor’s own hunts hadn’t been going so well today, so she was grateful for the deal made with Tamara that they would call each other in for back-up where possible. With the side-quest ending soon, she really did want to get at least a few more contributions lined up. The kid seemed like some sort of magnet for these buggers, so she was useful to have onside!
She hadn’t been far away when the ping alerted her to the request for help, so in hastening her way over, she’d arrived before too many blows had even landed.
“Hey, Tam!” She called in greeting, sending out Dinah and Bullseye, before entering the fray, herself. |

“Hi!” Tamara grinned as the other trainer arrived. She swayed lightly on the spot as Cinder’s battle theme played, unable to resist moving to the music.
The Combusken in question launched into battle before the other pokemon could so much as blink. He quickly landed a series of solid double-kicks, before darting back out of range.
Decibelle, meanwhile, kept things simple with a Growl.

They’d have this bugger down in no time!
Ah, the boundless optimism truly was alive today.
While the Duraludon was preoccupied with Tamara’s team, Taylor dashed in and threw a series of attacks into the beast’s back. “Ow, ow, ow!” she breathed, shaking out her hand, immediately regretting having used her bare hands.

Tam giggled. “Might wanna use your staff!” She called passed the opponent, a slight teasing tone to her voice. A huff was all the reply she received, before she was distracted by the as yet unnamed Eevee dashing into the fight. Tam was surprised – while the little normal-type was out, she hadn’t expected her to get herself involved in the actual battle.
Apparently she was full of surprises though, because the Eevee wasted no time in kicking dirt into the Duraludon’s face, aiming to blind it with an impromptu Sand Attack. |

This one was proving to be tough. “Just! Fall! Down!” Taylor ordered as she pummelled the creature, this time grudgingly taking Tamara’s advice and using her staff rather than her fists. The occasional kick was thrown in too, but her knuckles were at least safe for now.
She’d been going to switch to her weapon after that first attack, but when Tamara teased her about it, it made her want to stick to the original, bad plan. She was feeling contrary today, but not contrary enough to risk broken hands!

“Good job, Eevee!” She called out in praise, before wincing as the Duraludon took a swipe at her Combusken. “You okay, Cinder?” She added now. “Do you need to heal?”
Realistically, yes, but Cinder had sunk into a stubborn enough headspace by this point that she wasn’t about to admit that. <I’m fine,> the dual-type gritted out, launching into another series of attacks, experimenting with using Detect to avoid further damage.

“Go,” Taylor hissed as she sidled up to the Combusken, her staff held out in two hands to block a blow. “Go heal. I’ll cover you.”
For some reason, this seemed to be enough to convince the dual-type, where Tamara’s suggestion had failed, and the started nodded sharply, stepping away and turning to his trainer.
A Sand Attack from Dinah and a Rock Smash from Bullseye aimed to exploit the opponent’s weaknesses, while Taylor kept it busy and distracted.

“Come on, we’ll heal and come back!” Tam called out. Although Cinder had been convinced, Decibelle and Eevee were still in the thick of it. The Eevee returned to her side easily enough, clearly unconvinced about being in this fight anyway, but the Audino seemed to decide that one last attack was needed before withdrawing!
Dashing in, she unleashed a Pound, striking the steel body of the beast.
