PREVIOUSLY, IN MISTRAWhat. The. Fuck. She had managed to get them to the edge of Mistra, right at that place where the lush plains of the Surging Steppes with their swaying grass blades had never looked so beautiful. And then... Then they had appeared right here, at the edge of the Precipice. By this shrine with its swirling psychic energy and its memories of betrayal and deceit. Tuesday's brow furrows at the sight, but she's too tired and too hurt to bother with the thought of why the game keeps sending her back here. She sighs, smacking her lips, and in a display of swift decision-making, she allows herself to fall back to sit amongst the Precipice's pink flowers. She's still holding starlitlover up until that moment, letting him go and making it his choice if he wants to stay or leave. Ah, but, it's always his choice, isn't it? Because Adarsa always chooses whatever the hell he wants, especially when he's warned against certain actions... Actions like going to the motherfucking Corruption Zone."She's gone." Tuesday whispers, looking only at the chasm before her. "I warned you not to go there... I went there to help you and she's gone because of you."Her tone is quiet, steady, even, and cold, and beneath it all, her blood boils.

Adarsa was only passingly aware of everything that happened after Tuesday had grabbed him. Things had fallen into a blur, pain and blood soaked washes of color and movement. It was only when he was dropped, left to crumple atop pink wildflowers, that the pain became share, air seeping back into ravaged lungs.
The world steadied, pain in his chest sharpening around Tuesday's quiet words. But Adarsa didn't know her- He had never seen the whirlipede, didn't know she had been brought along. Even if he had? There were more important things to be mad about.
More vital things to have lost. "You-" His voice shook, frothy with pain. "You killed him! You- I thought you had come to help, but every step- You always make everything worse!" Tears blinded him as he lunged, weakly, for Tuesday, attempting to-
He didn't even know. Anything to convey how he was feeling to Mars. "Why- Why would you-"

Unmoving, she stares at him, golden eyes boring into blue ones. She stares at him and she blinks — as if to make sure that he's actually making these insane and illogical accusations. She killed him? She makes everything worse? The nerve. The motherfucking audacity. "I make everything worse?" Tuesday echoes, accusatory. "Look into a damn mirror, Ada." It's his fault. All of this is his fault. "I told you not to go into the Corruption Zone. I told you corruption is fucking dangerous. But, did you listen? Of course not, because when have you ever listened to me?" She doesn't move from where she sits among flowers, because she doesn't need to move. The shrine's energies wrap around her, slowly healing, and through it all, she simply stares at starlitlover, cruel, cold, accusatory, not once looking away from him as she speaks harsh truth after harsh truth. "I went there to help you because I knew the corruption would show you something fucked up, but you're right, I shouldn't have. I should have left you to go through all of that alone. You're an ungrateful little jerk and now my Pokémon is in the Everworld because of you. You did this to her. You killed her."She won't have it. Not today. Not ever.

It dawned on him, slowly, what Tuesday was talking about. He had just walked into his childhood home, where his father had died, to a pool of blood and Darcy- Darcy acting wrong, possessed or controlled or something. And Mars had killed him, stabbed him with that terrible knife, until there was nothing left. And Mars-
"Now my Pokémon is in the Everworld because of you. You did this to her. You killed her."
"You can't be serious-" His voice broke, a delirious laugh spilling out until his chest wheezes, and he fell into coughs. "You're mad about- about a pokemon? They- they aren't real! Darcy- Darcy is- He.. was..." Adarsa corrected, pain lancing his voice. "A real person. And you- you- you stabbed him. You killed him in front of me. And you- have the-" He gulped for air like he was still dying, which was exactly how he felt. "The audacity to blame me?"
He stumbled to his feet, wavering and unsteady, thin chest heaving from effort and pain. "I never asked for your help! I didn't want you to show up! But- you decided to stick your nose in, like you do every single time!" Adarsa sobbed, looking down at Tuesday. "And now Darcy's-" He broke into full sobs, then, taking in shaking air enough to hiss one last, final barb.
"I hate you, Mars."

"Darcy?" This time, she mocks. This time, she's cruel. This time the word comes out of her mouth with disdain and laced in an Alchemist's poison. She pretends she didn't hear what came next. She pretends to ignore the pang those words cause even when she had expected them. Of course Adarsa hates him, but that's not what matters. Not anymore. It shouldn't affect her.
"You thought that really was fucking Darcy?" It does affect her. It heightens her anger. Kindle to the flame that these days is often only ever-lit embers, but that at this moment grows hotter and hotter. Mars knows too damn well what that flame is like when it becomes wildfire. Mars knows it should be kept contained. And, yet...
"You said it yourself: it's a fucking game! I told you that wasn't actually Darcy, I explained it to you, but you don't listen." She looks at him with pure disgust, but she does not stand even then. He does not deserve to drive her away from this place that has grown to mean so much to her. If he wants to end this, he can leave himself. "...Should I have chosen you instead, Ada? Let that corruption monster kill you? Bet you'd be even more pissed then."
She laughs at him, a sound cold and lacking in any humour. That's when she looks away; when she looks back towards the abyss she knows so well.
"You were probably hoping I'd choose myself, huh? As if I'd ever sacrifice myself for you. There's no one worth that price, but you least of all. Hm... Yeah... Maybe I should've chosen you."
She had tried to protect Ada ever since the moment they were reunited. He hadn't thanked her once. Right here and now, Tuesday is fucking done.

She aims to hurt, and she does. Every mention of Darcy's name causes Adarsa to flinch, or pull his lips back in a grimace, or nearly cry again. But Tuesday was speaking nonsense- People were real, and the pokemon weren't. That was- that was obvious, basic shit.
And then she just kept talking.
Should I have chosen you instead, Ada? Let that corruption monster kill you?
"He wasn't going to kill me. He- He was my brother!" Adarsa yelled, shifting to wipe his face with a sleeve. "He- I- He wouldn't hurt me." Adarsa said, but his heart hurt. He- Darcy wouldn't, would he?
"Maybe you should have chosen yourself!" He snapped. What had he ever seen in Mars? Anything, beyond a pretty face? "Then you- You-"
But the rest of it never came, Adarsa simply crumpling. "He's gone." Adarsa whimpered. "Darcy's gone and I- I don't know-"

He just keeps going. He just keeps repeating the same bullshit that she had already explained isn't true at all. As if he knows more about the game than her. No... As if he were refusing to acknowledge that this is a game at all. Is he fucking insane? "Ha. He wouldn't hurt you? The brother you stopped talking to? The one you abandoned? The one who isn't proud of you? The one who just pointed a gun and you and told me he'd shoot you if I chose you?" She knows her words will cut, just as she also knows that back when Mars and Adarsa were together, all those years ago, Darcy had only been trying to protect Ada — even when Ada didn't understand it at all. He never understands. He never acknowledges how far people will go to protect him from harm. He never cares. What had he ever seen in Adarsa? He's nothing beyond a pretty face. He's immature and selfish and one of the worst fucking people Mars has ever met. Which, considering the kind of people that fill Martín Marzán's life, sure is an achievement. "You think I should have chosen myself, Adarsa? You wish I were dead?" Tuesday asks then, her tone gelid. Calm, she stands, towering over starlitlover when she looks at him again. "If that's what you want, then get the fuck out of my sight. Don't ever talk to me again. Don't ever look at me again. Don't ever even say my fucking name."He's unworthy of it. Both Mars' name and Tuesday's. He can go in the Corruption Zone again for all she cares. He can go and get himself hurt. She'll never be there for him again. Still, eyes of molten gold remained fixed on Starlitlover's gaze — unwavering and determined. "You're nothing but a useless little leech; feeding off those who let you in their lives and hurting them. A fucking parasite."Maybe that's the anger the Corruption Zone had awoken talking, but that's the thing, isn't it? Corruption sticks to you and it's hard to wash it off and pretend those dark feelings aren't there at all.

The words did cut. Adarsa drew his breath in sharply, eyes staring at Tuesday as she spoke, each word sinking into the pit of his stomach. He couldn't manage a word in defense, only capable of staring up at her. Every word cut, sinking into him. He could only stare up at her.
His thoughts circled uselessly, hooked onto Tuesday's words like snares. You wish I were dead?
Get the fuck out of my sight.
You're nothing but a useless little leech.
A fucking parasite.
For once, maybe the first time in his life, Adarsa was left entirely speechless. He swallowed, and broke eye contact with Tuesday to rub his eyes, shuddering. "I don't wish you were dead." He said, barely a whisper. "But I- Darcy would never hurt me. Not- No matter what I do. And I- If you cared at all, you're know that."
Would he, though? Would Mars know anything about how he felt about Darcy? Or just- Had he just complained to Mars? Only bitched about how he felt in the moment, never thinking beyond a minute's irritation? Had he always been so selfish?

Martín Marzán is a man who has countless reasons to be mad at the world, and when he and Adarsa were younger, that anger came to surface more than a few times. It was always directed towards others; towards people who meant nothing to him or who meant a lot of terrible things. Adarsa had heard the venomous words and had seen the physical altercations, but no matter how angry Mars sometimes was, that anger was never directed towards Ada. Never. No matter how many times they disagreed and even when they got into arguments, because see, Mars had loved Adarsa, and because he had loved him, even when angry he had never wanted to hurt him.
If even a speck of that love still remains in his heart all these years later, it's no longer somewhere where it can be found easily.
Tuesday wants to hurt Adarsa. Tuesday has hurt Adarsa. She can see it in his expression and she can hear it in his tone and words, and even though all of these things are true, she still feels no remorse at all. After all, even if no one else might see it or acknowledge it, he had hurt her too. Ada had hurt Mars too.
Is this what they call mutual assured destruction?
"No." Her response is as cold as it is dry, and even when Tuesday's voice is so different from Mars' own, the same tone is still there: the last word of an argument — cruel and final. She could do more, but instead she turns away, ready to leave him behind just as Mars had done years ago and hopefully never see him again.
"You're right, I don't care, because all you ever do is bitch about how awful everything is, even when people are trying to keep you from going through awful things. I respect myself too much to care about someone who acts like nothing I do is good enough."
She walks away, but it's those last words that linger in Mars' mind, forming a painful question: Is that why he had been so drawn to Adarsa all those years ago, because all of his life he had been surrounded by people who acted like he needed to do more for them, and in his fucked up mind, that's what love must have been like?
He's supposed to know better now.
