Once again Orion was back with a grim look on his face. It was rare he wound up in these parts unless he was freeing a lost soul left by someone else. Now, her was here for personal reason.
"SETA!" Orion barked. "DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH THE CRYPTIC BULLSHIT PREAMBLE. I'M HERE FOR ACHILLES, YES HE WANTS TO COME HOME SO WE CAN GET STRONGER AND PUNCH THAT WORM FUCKER IN THE MOUTH. OPEN THE DOOR AND LETS GET THIS SHIT OVER WITH."
He'd been to actual hell, this was a nice day trip in comparison, and if the future meant more expeditions there and kicking the shit out of that dark heart. They needed to grow, and this place would help both him and his partner grow through it's trials. He just had no patience for the pageantry.

Seta disappears, and there is a rushing sound as the bright gates and gleaming masks of the Everworld fly away from orioncayge, leaving him stranded in a void of infinite blackness.
Those who disregard the Everworld's process will never benefit from it, and the gatekeeper and guide of this place has left you to fend for yourself as requested.
This time there will be no talk. No preamble. No cryptic bullshit.

Man if this wasn’t just proving his fucking point real succinctly.
Orion’s initial shock of losing his senses, and his way like this was mixed with a searing spike of rage. Oooh wah, my name was Seta and I took offense to someone who already has his convictions set on surmounting your trial so I don’t want to quibble about what sort of lesson you're going to teach me this time. I already know I’m not coming back the same person, nor will my homie I’m saving because we’re going to get stronger from overcoming this challenge.
Boo fucking hoo.
His anger was lucky, honestly, because his sheer annoyance was searing away the absolute panic that would have boiled to the surface. The desert and the mist had both been ordeals yeah, but they were tangible ordeals to smash his skull against. Orion excelled if the problem was something he could pyrically flounder through, he was more than willing to expend his own suffering for the sake of others.
But maybe that was the lesson Seta was trying to pass on here.
This was one of those times he had to really think about this, use his noggin for more than cracking boards and sportin sick ass bandannas. That was all fine and dandy except he was basically in a sensory deprivation tank. In fact, he was fairly certain that this sort of thing was hella breaking any and all sorts of laws but he didn’t bother to fucking quibble the song and the dance so he really can’t fucking complain about that now could he?
Would hardly be sporting.
Plus if he stomped his feet and pissed and moaned it would probably only make that prissy ghost more smug. Oooooh, I thought you didn’t need any guidance, I thought this would be easy for someone like you? Gritting his teeth, Orion let out a soft growl.
“Fucker.”

Well if that wasn’t quite the treat, he could at least hear things, it was just real fucking quiet in here. He was just blind…he assumed at least. A quick tap of his fingers to his palms confirmed that while disoriented he still had his sense of touch as well. Smell and taste well…he honestly hoped he wouldn’t need to deal with those in this sort of situation.
At least he wouldn’t go mad from the silence, that was a nice little treat in this predicament. Taking a deep breath he did his best to banish the surface level annoyance and frustration from the forefront of his mind. He’d already gotten past the initial shock of the situation, and the rage had kept him swimming, but now cooler heads needed to figure out which way was shore. He would raise one foot up carefully and tap the floor with the toe of his foot.
Okay good, the floor was seemingly floor.
With that great revelation Orion took a few slow and measured steps forward, counting in his head and on his unseen hands the paces. His leg swept forward in and arc tap tap tapping away like a blind man’s cane making sure that everything in front of him was in fact still floor and not anything else, like not floor. This revealed to him a few things as he moved forward slightly. As he foot traced the floor he could detect grooves in the ground, seemingly the grout that one would find in between square tiles.
So he was somewhere, he just couldn’t see where.
Obviously, he didn’t think Hydance would just yeet him into the backrooms, or at least he hoped that was the case. Maybe John Hydance was some sick fuck who wanted to push people beyond their breaking point, and nobody like that Bryan guy on twitter could be nearly as wholesome as they seemed without having some fucked up skeletons in their kink closet.
His skin crawled at that notion, but he had to shove that aside. He had some work to do, and couldn’t let himself get distracted.
So the floor was covered in tiles, and based on his standard stride compared to the number of grooves on the ground he managed to to deduce that each step was about five tiles long. Five steps forward and he was twenty five tiles forward. If he could form the grid in his mind he could try and make some sort of mental map of what he encountered and try to navigate from there.
It would be tedious, but it was a way forward.

It was slow and grueling work, but Orion managed to fumble about for what felt like ages but could have been anywhere from five to fifty minutes in the absolute oblivion that was his current prison. It appeared he was in some sort of square room, roughly ten paces by ten paces. The wall he’d encountered seemed solid and smooth to the touch, he imagined it to be some sort of fancy marble, but for all he knew it was just one of those weird placeholder textures with the weird checkerboarded crosshatching.
Perks of making the player blind for such a challenge.
On one end of the room was some sort of hallway, wide enough for him to walk it with both hands out on either wall with his arms fully outstretched and tall enough that he couldn’t reach the ceiling even rising up onto his tippy toes. He hadn’t gone down it yet for fear of missing something in this room. What if there was some sort of secret key he needed for a door later down the road? Best to ensure he’d explored every nook and cranny of this place before moving onwards.
FOMO and all that.
The room was fifty tiles by fifty tiles, which left him two thousand and five hundred tiles to scour for any sorts of discernable secrets. Starting at what he would call the top left of the room, he went tile by tile on his hands and knees, letting his fingers dance over the smooth tile looking for any sort of rune or secret that had otherwise eluded him. It was slow grueling work, his arms and legs sore from holding his body up, but once he was done and satisfied that Seta hadn’t written Updog on the floor, he went to work checking over every inch of the wall of his current room in case of any lurking Ligmas.
Satisfied, Orion would turn to the hallway, take a deep breath, and start down it. All the while wondering where Achilles could be.

“What the fuck are you doing boss?”
Achilles stood befuddled as he watched his trainer seemingly stumble around blindly through what was otherwise a rather plain room. He seemed to be humming to himself and muttering as if he was deep in thought, his eyes clenched shut in concentration. He wasn’t quite sure what Orion was doing, all things considered, he was used to his boss being a little on the odd side but this was…well weird even for him.
The Big cat had tried multiple times to get his master’s attention, but it seemed like they were on some sort of…disconnect. Orion was seemingly intangible to him, his fingers would wave uselessly through Orion, and his words seemed to bounce off the man’s head. If he heard the cat, he made no sign of understanding. Clearly this was one of those Seta trials he’d heard his trainer talk about it the past, but if it was it seemed pretty straight forward.
Behind them was a hall with a simple fork in the road, one side led to another empty room with a table on it and…something, he hadn’t quite paid much attention to it because he couldn’t pick up whatever it was. The other way led to a door with a comically large lock on it. This should be straightforward, downright easy, yet here his master was crawling on his hands and knees muttering something about updog?
What the fuck is updog?

After a certain point Orion had decided that he wasn't going to continue on his hands and knees. If Seta or Hydance wanted him to prostrate himself before them in order to get Achilles back they could get fucking bent. He would reach into the ones and zeroes and tear the world asunder with his bare hands if he had to, but he wasn't going to fucking beg.
He was above that.
In fact, the longer he spent in the darkness the more indignant he got about the whole thing. Fucking Seta, Fucking Void, FUCKING MYSTRA. He gnashed his teeth, a feral growl leaving his lips that went unheard to him, but the vibrations of his seething rage rattled in the back of his throat, just enough sensation to prove he was alive, and if he was alive the fight wasn't over.
So he faced the unknown before him, sweeping his left leg in front of him like a blind mans cane, his arms were both outspread and planted on each wall, palms sliding frictionless on the mysterious surface. Slow and steady was the name of the game, the last thing he needed to do was get spun around and lose the mental map he had already forged. He would overcome this, he would adapt to the darkness, and soon it would be his greatest ally and strongest weapon. A manic grin spread across his face as he quickened his pace, this was starting to get eas-
His foot that hand been tap tap tapping away wall to wall failed to find wall on either side of him.
Motherfucker.

Orion had bite down on his lip in order to keep panic from rising in his throat. He'd conquered all of this already, he wasn't going to let this setback hold him down. His mouth filled with the telltale tinge of blood, shit, perhaps he'd bitten too hard. Something he would worry about when he could fucking see again. All he had to do was focus on some square breathing, steady his headspace, and not panic. Years spent in and out of his shrinks office had conditioned him to help keep his emotions in check, when he fucking felt like it.
He was like an emotional batman, with eight million tools tucked away in his tool belt for every kind of emotion and occasion.
Though the doc had never talked him through going blind, this was a new one. With both hands braced on the wall, he began to try and walk forward, keeping each hand firmly planted so not to lose himself in the void. Groping blindly with his feet, Orion tried his best to space out if this was another room or some sort of fork in the hallway. His shoes found purchase alongside a wall across from him, about...five feet in front of him. Alright, so it wasn't another room, but what was he dealing with? Letting go of the left wall, he would keep his right hand attached to the corner and swung out, planting his left hand on the other wall. Once he had a hand on both walls it was fairly apparent he was in some sort of...T crossway. His original hallway had run into another, perpendicular hallway.
Alright, that was easy enough he supposed.
So to his right was the hallway he'd come from, and the room he'd started in. So far as he knew there was nothing in there for him. Behind him the hallway continued into unexplored territory, and in front of him the hallway kept on going into the void. All he could do was put one foot in front of the other, and continue forward. As a very inspirational movie character had once said in his childhood.
Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming swimming swimming.

Several paces down the hallway Orion found himself at what he supposed would be a room. The walls of the hall gave way to open space, and no amount of blind fumbling while tethered to the wall revealed any other nearby walls. So either he was in a REALLY big hall, or another room, thought couldn't a big room be called a hall also? Whatever, that wasn't the point. The point was that it was something new, and this time Orion was ready for it. Keeping his right hand attached to the wall, he hugged the perimeter of the room as he slowly walked along the outline, using his foot to feel for anything within about two feet or so from the wall, revealing a grand total of jack and shit all for him to interact with. The room appeared to be square, or rectangular, he wasn't quite sure on his paces being a perfect measurement, but what he was sure was there were four walls and no other doors that he was aware of.
Once he'd discovered that he would begin to methodically paces back and forth with his arms out at shoulder height ready to catch the wall again on the off chance he managed to end up in the hallway again somehow. The room was about twenty paces deep and twenty two paces across, and it took him about five sweeps of the room before his foot smacked into something.
Jackpo-
The sound of porcelain wobbling filled his ears, one of the first sensations he'd experienced besides pain and the taste of blood in his mouth, and for a moment he was elated to hear something, anything, until a loud CRASH and the sound of shattering porcelain filled the air.
More like cracked pot.
By Orion's best guess, he was facing towards the hallway, and was somewhere towards the center of the room. Using this information to orient himself, he tried to crabwalk over to what appeared to be the wreckage, carefully sweeping with his feet to see what he could find. First his feet found some sort of...something. It was long and on the skinnier side of things, and based on a good handsy handling he could safely sat it was some sort of column or pedestal, perhaps a plinth even. It had fallen on it's side, dumping whatever had been on top of it and shattering it.
Carefully he would feel along the ground until he found the wreckage of whatever this mysterious object had been. Right now it was nothing but a pile of fragments that he was blindly and very carefully trying to sift through. Clearly this...whatever it was could hold some sort of clue to his trial. Fumbling, and doing his best not to cut himself, the fighter felt around for anything of note. After a few minor nicks that he was sure were bleeding of some variety, he managed to catch the faint jingle of something as he shifted a few pieces around. A few more shifts and jingles and Orion had some sort of...ring in his hands. It was cold, and rough, like some sort of old timey wrought iron art piece, wide enough that he could stick his hand through it with no problem. Along the bottom were several larger pieces of metal, and through some contextual touching Orion managed to deduce that this was some sort of old timey jailors keyring.
Jackpot. Now they were cooking with cook stuff.

Have you ever been in an escape room?
They tend to run the gamut from amazing to mediocre, and to really develop a great experience takes a lot of time and passion. Yet they have this one thing in common, which is a general sense of urgency involved as one puzzles through the various...puzzles and riddles in order to escape. A sense of racing against the clock that tends to lead to a bit of panic which confuses the brain and drains ones self of simple logic. The greatest minds known to man can flub basic arithmetic if put on the spot.
2+2=4 is really hard with a gun pointed at your forehead.
Yet that same panicky energy could be converted into raw adrenaline towards the end as things managed to click together. The various pieces of the puzzle blending together to form a beautiful pony galloping through a crisp spring meadow. The sheer thrill of racing against the clock and winning, dashing out of some perceived danger, making the perfect escape. So as Orion picked up speed back down the hall he couldn't help but feel like he was on to something. Which was a bit...eager on his part, but considering he didn't have any fucking eyes right now he couldn't imagine the developers making this whole ordeal particularly long. At the very least he found the obvious use for the keys at the other end of the hall as he almost slammed into a comically large metal door. A few moments spent groping around and he found what he could only describe as an absurdly large lock, a massive plate of cold metal that the lockpicking lawyer could probably use their fingers to open.
Alas, Orion couldn't see shit, so that route was not going to work for him.
Instead he did his best to fumble blindly through the keys, working methodically one by one to find the slot to the lock and work them in. He would try turning it left or right, then take the key out and rotate it and try again. One by one, sending the duds to gay baby jail on the other side of the ring where he had a finger quarantining the dud keys from ones he hadn't tried yet. After what felt like forever, the lock finally clicked open, and Orion let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding. Keeping the key ring on the off chance he needed it again, he pulled the door open and stepped across the threshold.

It's a strange thing, having your vision taken from you.
It's not something most people ever end up having to deal with, and to some it's their greatest fear. To be robbed of their sight, the one of six major senses that allow the brain to experience and interpret the world around them, to lose a bit of their agency. Yet, blind people continue on their lives in spite of their conditions, a great deal of them adapting and improvising all of the time to navigate the tricky art of say, finding a lightswitch. Most people have no problem, they can fucking see it. Yet for the visually impaired all of life's little acts become infinitely trickier. Hell, as Orion stepped forward through the door and into the light, he realized in retrospect that the trial had been incredibly straight forward.
Walk out of a room, down a hall, take a right and get a key ring, turn around and march to a door at the other end of the hall, open it, leave.
So as his vision came back to him, the world rendering in slowly to reveal he was back in Seta's lobby, he couldn't help but chuckle. All of that struggle, panic, and fear for something as simple as that. Soon that chuckle grew into a chortle, and then a full blown laugh as the absurdity of what had just been levied at him really sank in. Sinking to his knees, Orion would shake his head and really take in the details of the floor. The nice glossy sheen of the tile, they way the light reflected off of it ever so slightly so he could just barely see his bloodied face. Holding his nicked up hands in front of him he really took some time to survey the damage he had done, feeling through the ceramic, noticing small paper thin cuts that he hadn't really felt. It was amazing, being able to see his own hands again.
Speaking of hands, a furry pair of mitts grabbed Orion's shoulders.
"Boss! Boss! Can you hear me?"
Orion would turned to see the panicked Incineroar behind him, had he always been there? That seemed to fit Seta's MO honestly. Giving him a big grin, Orion would take an offered paw and let the lion lift him to his feet.
"Yeah man! Good to see you again buddy!"
The concern on the felines face washed away in an instant, replaced with relief as he pulled his master into a hug. "Man you were stumbling around there for what felt like an hour!"
"I couldn't see shit dawg."
"Ah!" The cat quipped, nodding sagely. "Speaking of Dogs, what the fuck is updog?"
"Nothing much man, how about you?"

"Our minds can become numb to the mundane," says Seta from behind you. "To the point where we forget what it is like to live without something."
You turn to try and face Seta, but their voice is always coming from just past the limits of your peripherals. "But be it sight, guidance, or even a close friend. There is always a way through the unknown."
"You have passed the Trial of the Void."
The golden voice at the edge of your vision fades away, leaving you and your partner alone in the vermillion halls. Red gates fill the sky, and Seta is nowhere to be found, though their words echo in your mind long after you leave the halls.
"Nothing leaves the Everworld unchanged."
Incineroar has been returned to orioncayge. Incineroar has learned Trick Room!
