After the raid, Comet saw the Surge Steppes
And thought, âThis could be a wicked Mario Kart track.â
And UNOVR said, Let there be roads: and there were roads
(And ramps and floating boxes and coins flowed)
And UNOVR saw the kart track, and it was good; and UNOVR invited players to make merry and do some sick drifts
BIRD CUP: THE SURGE STEPPES
Welcome to the impromptu installation of Pokemon Kart! The first course features the Surge Steppes in celebration of Thunderfall Raidâs completion. All players are free (and encouraged) to join in for some go karting fun! The landscape of this location will revert back to normal after the event, so thereâs no worry about any wanton destruction you may cause along the way. Itâs perfectly safe!
To Cometâs absolute disappointment, he and his Pokemon have been relegated as commentators. Donât let that stop you from enjoying yourself, even if heâs glaring at you while youâre setting up your vehicle.How to Participate
NEW! The scenario will accommodate a maximum of five characters. Once five characters have met the requirements, the scenario will close.
To give flexibility to the players, there are no timed rounds in this event. Instead, you are given a list of prompts to write about with your character and/or Pokemon. For each of these prompts, you must roll a d100 somewhere in your post. The lower your number, the âbetterâ your result.
Placing is determined by adding all of your d100 rolls by the end of the event and dividing it by the number of prompts you fulfilled (ex. 100 + 100 + 100 divided by 3).
Requirements
- You must complete a minimum of
TWOprompts in order to qualify for placing.- Your first post must contain a written or visual description of your kart or bike. Feel free to use Mario Kart 8âs page for inspiration.
Additional Notes
- You can post in the thread without fulfilling a prompt (ex. to reply or react to another player).
- There is no posting order, but please avoid double posting when possible.
- You can opt not to roll if you donât want to risk increasing your total, but you must have a minimum of two rolls youâll be submitting for placing.
Can my player bring their Pokemon?
A maximum of TWO Pokemon can be brought out for this event, but they must realistically be able to fit in/on your vehicle. They are also not allowed to attack other players, karts, or manipulate the terrain around them to sabotage other players intentionally. They can instead be used to speed up your vehicle, protect it from obstacles, and do other creative things (like cheer your player on, idk).
What about my vehicle?
UNOVR's leaving it up to your imagination, no mechanical knowledge required! It'll pop right in front of you and you can customize it freely before locking it in. Remember though that you're making a kart or a bike, so they must resemble either of these.

TRACK INFORMATION
{THEME}{MAP and GEN INFO}
Right click and open the image for the original size!
Taking place entirely on a reconstructed part of Route 3, the terrain is filled with spires, plains, and mountainous slopes. The entire track has a low barrier that a player can bounce off from without flipping over, but it does slow them down considerably. There are a few areas that do not have barriers, so players can go out of bounds or fall if they're not careful. Wild Pokemon have been displaced and plopped into the track for flavor, but try to avoid hitting them!
Note that orange boost tiles will speed you up a bit, while the blue boost tiles will give you a big boost, allowing you to open your glider and soar for a bit! Yellow dots denote "coins", which give you a tiny boost, while "purple diamonds" are item boxes.{LAP 1}
Segment 1 (Red)
The beginning is a maw of spires, jutting from the ground for some really cool appeal!
Segment 2 (Yellow)
Hey so remember when majority of the players in Thunderfall decided to wallop some Duraludon? They're kind of pissed about it, so now they're stomping around this area. Watch out!
Segment 3 (Green)Shortcut!There's a ramp to the side, but you'll slow down quite a bit going off the road like that. If you were lucky enough to nab something that can boost you (coins aren't enough!), you can make it through and let your glider out for a bit! Otherwise, take advantage of the orange boosts and the coins in front of it!
Segment 4 (Pink)
You've hopped onto a part of Mythstar's wagon tracks! While you're not in danger of getting hit by one of the guild's wagon carts, somehow the lasers from the Mile-High event managed to get their way here, and they're active! And targeting players! That blue boost doesn't seem to be a safe idea...{LAP 2}
Segment 1 (Red)
This part is pretty chill, but after exiting the tracks you notice that the road is starting to head downward, and into...another a mountain? No wait, a tunnel!
Segment 2 (Yellow)
You're inside the tunnel! You're watching out for two things here: Woobats are flying around in a panic, and if you're not careful, your face might get a ball of fluff and wings! There's also some Drilbur here that are still digging tunnels, and an Excadrill that isn't all too happy about all of the commotion!
Segment 3 (Green)
You're starting to ascend through the tunnel! Ride on those boosts to really speed you up, and at the end of the tunnel is an open maw where you can hop onto the next segment!
Segment 4 (Pink)
Holy shit you can fall here?? Use the boosts to help you jump across the flat pillars, which should be stable enough to handle you, your vehicle, and hopefully a number of explosions! Some Magnemites float around here, and if you're lucky, you may spot a Magneton or even a Magnezone!Shortcut!Your player can attempt to do a sharp turn to jump into another pillow, but you need a boost to make the leap without falling!{LAP 3}
Segment 1 (Red)
Whew, you made it through the pillars! You're descending down again to the plains. There's Ponyta grazing around here, but if they get spooked, they may stampede into the course!
Segment 2 (Yellow)
This segment shows off where theGiant Shrineused to be! You can either drive around it or glide over. Be careful since you can fall in the hole if you're not careful (or get hit!)
Segment 3 (Green)Anti-Gravity!You have less friction here and if you bump into another player, you actually gain a boost! Mareeps can be spotted here in big herds. Maybe if you had a way to harness electricity, you can get them to charge your vehicle..? (the same goes for the spires!)
Segment 4 (Pink)
The start of this segment is a big ramp that lets you soar with your glider! You go out of Anti-Gravity though, and you need to make a sharp right turn before crossing the finish line. Last push!ITEMS
{Items}Whatâs a Pokemon Kart game without items to throw at your opponents? When doing the item prompt, roll a d8 first to determine which item you get. Please use this list for reference:
1 - Three Tropius Banana Peels 2 - Squirtle Shell 3 - Wartortle Shell 4 - Inkay Bomb Toss them anywhere on the field and an unlucky chap might slip on them! This shell travels far, rapid spinning anyone that gets in the way and can even bounce on walls! This shell has honing capabilities! It tries spins to the nearest player and douses them with a cold Water Gun! Throw it on the ground and itâll create a slippery mess, on another player, well⌠5 - Chain Machamp 6 - Three Salac Berries 7 - Light Ball 8 - Luck Incense For around ten seconds, a Machamp will suddenly appear in front of your kart and pull you really fast! Hold on tight! Activate a berry to give you a speed boost, which can help you get ahead or clear a shortcut without slowing down! For around ten seconds, you will be invincible and move really fast! Thereâs no additional effect when you bump into players though. Also, you can still fall! Automatically consumed. This makes you very lucky! Lucky in what? Not in rolls, unfortunately, but maybe elsewhere? FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
{FAQ}Q: What if I donât want to drive?
A: You can be a spectator instead and cheer on the racers! The race is streamed on a specific channel, so everyone, even those who arenât near the Surge Steppes, can watch the action go down!
Q: Can I do the item prompt only once? / How many items can my player hold?
A: You can catch multiple item boxes across the three laps, but you only do a d100 roll the first time you complete the prompt (any others donât count). Like Mario Kart, your player can only hold on two items at a time.
Q: What if I canât drive?!
A: No problem! The karts have a SmartDriving AI that you can turn on, all youâd have to do is step on the pedal. The AI will mainly activate to keep you on course and try its best to avoid obstacles. Alternatively, if your Pokemon has appendages that let them hold the wheel, they can drive!
Q: Wait, whereâs the safety in this?!
A: All players participating will be outfitted with fancy vests that will deploy a protective bubble around them once a crash has been detected! Please keep this on at all times, else we will not be responsible for a possible white out :3
Q: What if I crash?!
A: Youâre totally open to flip over your kart and keep going, provided it hasnât been totaled and youâre not injured. Otherwise, it might be best to give up!
Q: What if I fall??
A: Metagrosses are on standby throughout the track to lift you up before certain death, and theyâll place you back on the road!
