This wasn't the first time she moved, but it was certainly the most memorable. San Francisco was such a strange city. Her old home back in Quebec had nothing on all the accessibility options, and wheelchair-friendly public transportation here.
It felt good in such a foreign way.
This was her new home.
Her new apartment was nothing to write home about. Fairly bland and not exactly cheap, but it was pretty accessible. The view wasn't anything to write home about either. A look down at the roads below, and taller buildings surrounding. Her first meal had been pretty garbage pizza, paired with a dozen crappy juice boxes that made her stomach uneasy.
And yet, she had never been so happy and excited at the same time.
When she had first moved into the place, tears of genuine joy had begun dripping down her cheeks. After over a year of spending her time wasting away in a virtual world, a world that did not influence the real one, did not change her situation, yet made her happy. A world where she escaped from her trauma, forged friendships, bonds with people, and forgot her worries.
But now, everything was different. She was working for Hydance.
The company was smaller than she expected, given all of its fame. She had expected to try and get a job using her artistic skills, not her management or people skills. Those had been, well, long forgotten until recently. She was going to be working as an Event Coordinator. Even if it was a diversity hire given her disability, Laguna couldn't care any less.
All her time put into the game, caring about it, and trying her hardest to make it better, wasn't wasted, nor had she been wasting herself. She was going to be working with so, so many others who had been influenced by the game, touched by it, and changed for the better. And she couldn't wait to be an even greater part of it.
Picking up her new lanyard and ID, Laguna readied herself for her first actual, full day. All dressed and ready to go, she adjusted her wheelchair and almost rolled straight out the door, before realizing her phone was still on her bed. Carefully making her way back towards it, she picked it up and instantly smiled softly as she stared at the lock screen.
The doodles of her Pokemon, from that very depressive day when she first got out of bed and started applying for jobs. Smiling, happy faces, she couldn't help but smile right back.
"... I'll see you guys after work." She spoke to herself, gently tucking it into her purse, and finally made her way out the door.
