#s://i~imgur~com/QuIo3YX~png Ruby waited, watching the battle take place. The fate of UNOVR was in the Dreamer's hands.
And for a second, it was easy to forget that she was among them. Just another player in the game, just with her own role to play. A role that she enjoyed, wholeheartedly.
She knew what King Articuno meant as soon as he shared his first message with the Dreamers, and they were sent back to fight. He meant to sacrifice himself.
But not just himself, Moltres, Zapdos, their deaths to serve the future of the world, purging the corruption they could not beat before.
When he spoke again to her, Queen Rubella sat silently atop her small throne of pillows, listening to his words. She dared not interrupt his final goodbye.
Only that it wouldn't be a goodbye.
Despite his words, he never faded. Despite his message, despite his intentions, nothing happened.
And yet, the genuine tone of his voice had melted Ruby's heart.
The young girl had climbed up from her seat, the large mirror on the ground still showcasing the final confrontation through the eyes of her Munna. People had decided to not sacrifice, to instead, trust that there was another way.
"... My King," Ruby began, slowly walking over towards his throne. "You do not need to thank me. For the time spent together has been nothing but enlightening. I have learned so much, and will forever keep learning. But, if there is one thing I do know-" She'd wave a hand to the mirror, it shimmering like a pool as Zapdos flew away, the cannons destroyed, the people cheering. "Is that it is not yet time to go."
She'd finally approach the foot of his throne, eyes gazing up from his frost-covered beard, to those warm eyes of his. "The Dreamers have made up their mind. They have decided upon a different path. They chose a path beyond sacrifice."
She lets out a deep breath, reaching out to take hold of his presumably cold hand, hers still warm, full of life and energy. "I know you are trapped here, but- I still think you are a hero." Her own smile would spread, such softness and kindness in her own eyes. "Dreams may be temporary, but memories are forever. Never lost, only forgotten."
"With the Dreamers, this world is always changing. It is no longer just your fantasy, it is part of something far more grand." She'd squeeze his hand as she spoke. "It is a place where the Dreamers themselves are shaping the world, and there is a magic to that."
"Your kindness, your generosity, your desire to see the world a better place, is worth so much more than you could ever know. So, I beg of you, do not feel disheartened. The Dreamers will find a way, we must have faith. Your wisdom can help guide them."
She turns, looking at the mirror once more. Her Munna peeking over the shoulder of a certain child (Rose Garden), Zapdo's poem on full display on the paper in her hands.
"The world is forever making itself a better place. And if we are to exist in nothing more than a dream, let us be a place where these warriors may rest. Where their souls will find comfort, love, and joy. Where those who dream to make the world a better place, will find nothing but encouragement."
She'd finally turn around again, speaking in that same soft voice. "I want to throw another banquet. One filled with laughter and joy. Dancing, music, games, works of art. This time, one free of fear. Just, a time to celebrate their victories..." She pauses for a bit, eyes slowly glancing over some of the walls, many still barren and boring.
"... Besides. This place could use some life in it. Whether you desire to join me or not, is up to you, of course, Your Majesty, but I think it will bring you joy to speak with the Dreamers. So, come, let us prepare. There is work to be done. Won't you join me?"

#s://a~l3n~co/i/BmU0ma~png Articuno nods slowly, his mind far away. "It is not my time." His voice is soft as powder snow; subdued but not sad. "Not yet." He rises, and holds out an arm for you to take. The preparation for death and then sudden reversal of fortune have left him disconnected and pensive. He looks over at the mirror on the wall.
"Do you know what we just saw?" he asks. "Not a battle. Not a victory or defeat. We saw a delta." He spreads the fingers on one hand. Five pale fingers diverge from his steady hand. "The trainers, the Dreamers, my brother, the professor...we are all rocks tossed into the river of time. We are natural obstructions that change the path of the water. But we can't see our impact until we are downstream."
The fog in his expression clears, and he looks along the barren walls. "For years I've dreamt of this day. Of my last day. But it appears that they were no more prophetic than a fortune cookie. The dreams were merely that: dreams. Wishful thinking." He touches a spot on one wall and vibrant colors spread outwards. The silver crack of lightning, the jagged gold of his brother, and a hundred splashes of trainers and Pokemon. The image shifts, showing a hundred permutations. Worlds that could have been. A burst of yellow as Zapdos electrocutes everyone. A slash of crimson as he is impaled by his own shrine. Blue fury as a humanoid Zapdos breaks his staff in two. Orange fire bathing the battlefield as the sun overhead explodes. Black corruption overtaking the conflict like an oil spill.
White. A battlefield frozen by the emergence of a titanic glacier.
The image on the wall shifts and shifts again, never settling. Like dreams it is restless, tinged in spreading fancy and fuzzy edges. "A Delta," Zapdos says. "A glimpse at would might have been, and a necessary splash of color." He looks out across all the empty spaces in the grand palace. "I leave it to you and the dreamers to fill in the rest."

#s://i~imgur~com/QuIo3YX~png Ruby didn't need to be a psychologist with a PHD to see how troubled Articuno was. But she was, and as he held out an arm for her, she took it gladly, intending to keep him company for as long as he desired.
She listened calmly, politely as he explained. A delta. Describing the flow of time like a river made sense. That we all might influence it, but we'll never be able to truly predict what might happen until the time arrives.
He was so prepared for death, so prepared to make his sacrifice. It was genuinely heartbreaking, seeing the fog in his expression.
However, when he reached out to touch one of the walls, Ruby was in awe. Visions of entirely possible futures dashed before her eyes, ever changing. Never settling into one path. She witnessed the flash of lightning, the burning flames, and the frozen landscape. To think that these beings, these Legendary Pokémon were capable of such strength, and still failed against the corruption was almost mindboggling.
And yet, despite all that power, he was still an old man, ready to be free. A man who had thought he knew what was going to happen, so ready for his moment. Given all that had happened, she had almost expected him to be taking it worse. Most mortal men would have cracked under the inevitable jaws of fate. Perhaps he was simply hiding his emotions well, it was truly hard to gauge.
When he motioned to the other empty spaces, Ruby finally nodded her head. Gently squeezing his arm, she stood back a few steps before speaking. "I believe I understand. Every choice we make changes our trajectory, our path through life. Nobody knows where it takes us and nobody can ever truly know. So the only thing we can do, is our very best. Anything and Everything we do, matters to the world, just not how we ever might expect. To linger on the past, to presume we know what shall happen because of our actions, good or bad, is flawed. For we must always look to the future, knowing and expecting change."
She turns around, glancing at all the empty spaces with a soft sigh. "I promise you, I shall always do my best. For the realm of dreams to mean anything at all, we should make our dreams real too." Her broken crown floated around her head, the jewels glimmering in the light of the Delta wall. "I'll see it done, My King."
