#s://media~discordapp~net/attachments/355418129385390081/1145721204548841513/image~png Kasey frowned at the gatchapon machine. Their previous failures laid arrayes in their bag. A plush kricketot, a sandyghast, a grovile, a weedle, a doduo, and a combusken. They were all good, cute pokemon. But they weren't the ones Kasey had wanted. The signs said tou could get any pokemon, and that was what Kasey wanted to do.
Win a type: null plush.
They slid another coin into the slot, and pulled the handle. And prayed.
Klunk! A large plastic pokeball fell down, Kasey stooping to retrieve it.

#s://media~discordapp~net/attachments/355418129385390081/1145721204548841513/image~png It was a spoink, complete with a soft glittery gemstone orb atop its head. Kasey sighed, and tucked that plush into their bag too.
They- there were pangs of guilt. But the Rookery was massive, and felt endless. And... they could always leave behind the plushes they didn't want, and hopefully make someone's day.
And... there were pangs of something else. This was the first day! And Kasey still had to eat, and maybe there would be something else they liked, and it really wasn't like them to do something like this, but...
But Kintsugi felt important. Was important. So, they... bought a few more Rookery tokens. And then they'd be done!

#s://media~discordapp~net/attachments/355418129385390081/1145721204548841513/image~png There was a blue stringy guy, a salamance with floppy wings, a litwick, a green one with a flower hairpin, a... fire monkey, and a brown one with springy legs and no mouth. None of them were even pokemon they had, let alone Kintsugi.
Kasey felt their chest grow tight, which sent a wave of panic- which was spurring tears on all the faster. Of course this had been a dumb idea! The- the chances of a type null were... less than one percent? And there were probably duplicates of really popular pokemon, like pikachu or- or porygon.
Kasey gathere their little hoard retreated to an unclaimed bench, and wiped their face and tried to calm down. An adult having a meltdown over. Over a video game stuffed animal.
They didn't hear their phone beep, screen pulsing gently.

#s://i~imgur~com/wtkp15v~png "...Gachapon? Really? Can't you just buy whatever merch you want?"She talks quietly, all too aware that there are eyes on her. Of course there are, she might as well be wearing a giant 'Look at me!' sign, and that's exactly the reason why they had both agreed that she should wear a small earbud instead of a proper earpiece to talk to him. It's less 'I'm up to something serious' and more 'I'm just a particularly busy and particularly sociable cosplayer'. "Ha! I'm surprised that you even know what gacha is." Even if it's just an earbud, she can clearly hear his voice — their line of communication flawless. The best that money can buy, obviously. "There's some stuff that's only available at the Rookery Gachapon, so might as well try our luck, right? Plus, you can just give anything I don't want to the people nearby."Her concern is that she's all too familiar with her boss' greed, and that she wouldn't be surprised if it even extends to Pokémon plushies. Still, Ariel makes her way to the High Tide stage as asked, beelining for the strange yet obvious vending machines in the room. They have cute drawings of eggs all over them. "Hm. I'll start with five."EC8IXCLq1-100 Her first pull is something green and round, apparently not a Pokémon Mars cares for or likes. He dismisses it without even telling her what its supposed to be. 1-100 Her second pull looks like some kind of turtle, but Mars also doesn't care for it at all. Ah yes, her boss is greedy, but he's incredibly picky too. Ariel rolls her eyes, knowing he can't see her expression. 1-100 By her third pull, he interrupts her, not waiting until she sees her prize: "Wait, Ari. Turn around." He must have seen something in the app's Location Tracker or map, but when she turns, all she sees is what looks like a teenager who's having a bit of a breakdown. "Go over to that kid and ask if they're okay."She doesn't get it, but she also doesn't bother with questioning it. It's not her job to question him about these things. So, she grabs her three prizes and walks over to this stranger, every step of her red heels resounding. "Hey..." She greets once standing before them, her tone calm and steady. Blue eyes gaze down upon them, her expression a mask of concern, but she even musters a warm smile for them. "Are you alright?" 1-100·1-100·1-100

#s://media~discordapp~net/attachments/355418129385390081/1145721204548841513/image~png Kasey heard the clack of shoes, but didn't pay the sound much mind- until the soft voice reached for them. They looked up, sharply, eyes going wide. "I-" It- it was her. It was like she had stepped out of the game itself. Kasey could only gawk, a moment, and wiped their eyes again. "Tuesday?" They choked out, baffled, too sideswiped by the gatcha-related failure and the real life location and the Tuesday to even be upset properly.
"I- U-m- I'm okay. I... I'm just..." They let out a sad, pathetic laugh. "I wanted to get a plush of Kintsugi... But I... I... don't think it'll happen." Data entry wasn't exactly. The highest paying job. And they'd just paid rent before heading out on this trip, and.... and with every additional plush that wasn't Kintsugi, it felt more and more hopeless. "Um, but- but it's okay. I- I'll be okay." They said, offering a smile. "I'm just- just still tired from the flight over. And the time change."

#s://i~imgur~com/wtkp15v~png "Kintsugi." She echoes as if giving the matter serious thought. In reality, she's merely buying a second or two; enough time for Mars to explain to her what this stranger is talking about and what she should do.
Sure enough, an answer is conveyed via an earbud hidden behind a strand of luscious strawberry blonde hair:
"Kintsugi is the name of one of their Pokémon. A Type: Null. Hm...The plushie must be a rare one. Help them out, Ari. They're my friend."
This is one of Mr Marzán's online friends? Curious.
Her smile remains, of course, and reaching into her purse, she offers a handkerchief to this person whose name she does not know. Despite its floral pattern, it smells faintly of Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, because Ariel has always favoured fragrances like those.
"How about we give it a few more tries, then? My treat." She offers, extending a hand for Tuesday's friend to take. She wears opera gloves of a soft and vibrantly scarlet fabric. "If we try together, we'll have double the luck, right?"
Ariel doesn't actually believe this at all, and she knows well that Mars himself scoffs whenever someone even mentions luck to him, disliking the mere concept, but it feels like the right thing to say in this moment, so she says it, smiling.

#s://media~discordapp~net/attachments/355418129385390081/1145721204548841513/image~png Kasey gave a sad, pathetic little nod at the echo of their pokemon's name. They didn't want a plush of any of their other pokemon- not even Phoenix! Their starter!- but they were... as determined as their wallet would allow. Which wasn't very much. Should they favor one pokemon so far over the others? Was that right?
But Tuesday's radiant smile softened the thoughts, and she even proffered a handkerchief, perfumed and decorated in neat little pink flowers, which Kasey accepted with gratitude and awe. "Thank you..." They murmured, gently dabbing at their face.
And then came the equally radiant offer- If we try together, we'll have double the luck, right?- and even after everything- Kasey blinked, and fought not to cry. Again. Instantly after they stopped crying. "I- You don't- I mean- it's not- You don't have to-" Kasey got out, looking up at Tuesday with wide eyes. "But I- I appreciate it- That's... really kind." They wiped their face again, sniffling a bit. Making an incredible, wonderful first impression.
"Um... what... did you want me to call you?"

#s://i~imgur~com/wtkp15v~png "Um... what... did you want me to call you?"A simple question to which there is no simple answer; offering the actual name is Tuesday's player is out of the question and Ariel certainly has no intention of doxing herself at a nerdy convention. However, among the many many scenarios Mr. Marzán had prepared Ariel for, this had been one of the most expected ones. She smiles at Silvermoon. "Oh, you can just keep calling me Tuesday, don't worry about that. Or maybe T, like tea." There's a laugh, melodious and as perfect concocted as everything else about this persona. "I'm a very private person, you see? I'd be in a bit of a pickle if people were to find out who I am."These words are purposefully chosen to keep the mystery of Tuesday alive, but they're also true in every aspect and potential interpretation: it'd be a problem if people were to find out Tuesday's real identity, and it'd also be a problem if people were to find out who Ariel is. Admittedly, as much as she dislikes this whole costume, Ariel is thankful for how different she looks when wearing it — a whole new identity. Now, of course, listening to all of this, Mars knows well that Silvermoon might feel as if Tuesday is unwilling to tell them her name because of everything that has happened, but he says nothing about it. He simply watches as they both walk back to the Rookery Gachapon, noting the nearby stamp kiosk. Which one is that one? The Seer Stamp? Good thing Ariel had already collected that one for him, or he'd feel compelled to interrupt the moment. "Now, let's see..." "Tuesday" says, standing before the gachapon machine. She gracefully reaches for a token from her purse and enters in it the respective slot. "I'll try one. You can try the next few, yes?"zAJJKcxJ1-100Lights flash, but after all of the machine's spectacle, all it reveals is... some kind of pink thing with a plush hammer? "Tinkaton.""Oh! Tinkaton! Look at it, so cute.""I guess we can keep that one, Tuesday has a Tinkatink... I've been meaning to evolve her." Ariel has no idea what he's talking about, but she smiles at the plushie before giving Silvermoon their tokens. 1-100

#s://media~discordapp~net/attachments/355418129385390081/1145721204548841513/image~png Kasey listened as Tuesday answered, deflecting back to her username and online nickname- T, like tea. They gave a little smile, and nodded. "Of course," They said, content with that answer. People had specific personas for specific people- Kasey didn't mind one way or the other what they were called, here- but they wouldn't feel the same if their mother was in attendance. And... this felt right for Tuesday.
They trailed after the older trainer, watching as she trid her luck- revealing a pokemon they didn't know. "Tinkaton..." They echoed. It was a cute pokemon...
Their thoughts were inturrupted as Tuesday slid the rest of her tokens into Kasey's hands. "I- um, right-" It felt like too many...
I2TdgqVX1-100 The first was a little cream and pink kitten. Cute- cute enough to keep, despite Kasey not having one.
1-100 Then a fuzzy woobat, like the ones all over Briarbane- it made sense for those to be common here, too...
1-100 And then a mostly flat green spider, with a face on its back. Kasey didn't like spiders, but... this one was okay. It wasn't scsry, at least....
1-100 And the last one- a white deer, something distant and noble about its expression. Kasey frowned at it- it reminded them of Verai, somehow. Maybe he'd like it? But he probably wasnt the type of person to go to these...
They looked up at Tuesday- and smiled. "Um- thank you. For... for trying. No- um, for helping. I... I do really appreciate it. And, um... I'm sorry." 1-100·1-100·1-100·1-100

#s://i~imgur~com/wtkp15v~png I'm sorry. What does this kid have to be sorry for? Not managing to find the luck within themselves to win the prize they wanted with Ariel's tokens? That's silly. It's a game of luck, after all. Yet, in all of her wisdom and knowledge of interpersonal relationships, Ariel suspects that there is a deeper meaning to that apology. What is it? What had happened between this kid and Tuesday? "...Tell them it's fine and offer to give it another shot... Call them Sil." The voice of her boss interrupts Ariel's thoughts, and so Ariel calls a gentle and slight smile to her lips, putting a gloved hand on Silvermoon's shoulder and giving the lightest squeeze. "It's fine, Sil. How about we give it another shot?"She doesn't add anything else for now, but her curiosity remains. Is a toy of a Pokémon really that important? Do people who play this game really form such deep connections with the AI that are their Pokémon? Has her boss done so too? } 'Ha. If Alexa could get jealous, she would.' Ariel thinks in passing.

#s://files~catbox~moe/dlh6ad~png Kasey just stared up at Tuesday, a gasp escaping them at her words.
It’s fine, Sil. How about we give it another shot?
“I-” Kasey fought to not cry, and failed. “Thank you, I- Thank you so much. For- for everything.” They sniffled, hesitating a momoent, looking whale-eyed at Tuesday- before feeling brave enough to surge forward, giving the woman a hug.
“Thank you,” They cried. “Thank you, but I- I can’t let you pay for anything else. I- Thank you, though.” Kasey said, reaching to wipe their eyes. They took a long, slow breath trying to soothe their emotions.
They looked up at Tuesday again, and smiled. “Um, I- I’m glad to have met you. Here, I mean.”

#s://i~imgur~com/wtkp15v~png Thank you so much. For everything.People are often thankful to Martín Marzán. Thankful for his time, his attention, his presence, his company, his advice, his knowledge of the industry, his myriad of contacts, his influence and how he may decide to use it to aid someone, and above all else, they're thankful for whatever money they're able to convince him to spend for their sakes. When he was much younger, no more than a boy, other children were often thankful to Mars as well; even back then being his friend came with the added benefits of his popularity and the potential sharing in all of the luxuries provided by the Marzán family's wealth. I'm glad to have met you. Ariel knows all of this. She had seen countless people voice their thanks to that boy that insisted on stubbornly smiling despite all the pain and hardship, and later on, she had seen countless more voice their thanks to the successful man that boy had grown to become. This is different from most of those thanks. This child — this 'Sil' — is not thanking Tuesday for anything she might be able to do for them, but simply for being herself. For being here for them. For being their friend. No sound comes through the earpiece, her boss is silent, and Ariel understands the reason for that as well. It all makes sense now; why a game like UNOVR is so important to a man like Martín Marzán. "Thank you too." She quietly says then, softly returning the hug even though Ariel has never favoured such forms of physical contact. Some exceptions can be made, as are the words themselves. She's not sure that it's exactly what Tuesday would actually say, after all, but it's what she thinks her boss must feel, and in part, it's also an expression of her own thankfulness. "I'm glad that we're friends, Sil."She smiles at them when pulling away, and she means every word she says. She's glad that Mars has UNOVR, and that through Tuesday, he has friends like Silvermoon. Friendships like these are perhaps the closest to genuine affection that can exist in the life of a man like him.
