The blinking map marker was still there on his phone, but it had moved to a different part of the venue. "Aw man, he can teleport?" Kenny asked, head popping up from behind the Jeep Wrangler display. He tried tapping 'Attack' on the app just in case, but encountered an error. Target out of range.
Well, it was easy to tell where C0D13_2 had gone to— if the map didn't give it away, the crowds of people running towards the merch store did. Kenny realized what this meant just in time and his jaw dropped. "Oh, crap! The merch!"
He and Summer had already raided the merch shop on Day 1 of the convention and loaded up on character goods, so it wasn't like they were losing anything (also, this wasn't real) but he couldn't stand the idea of the boss destroying all those cute little figurines with its laser blasts. "We gotta get over there! C'mon, guys!"
He sprinted down the hall towards the merchandise shop, seeing blaster marks on the Pokemon Center signs through his AR glasses. They must be close! He squeezed into the shop just in time to get a glimpse of C0D13_2 swallowing a row of Litten plushies. What the heck?! That's so mean! What would Tigger think?
"Painter stamp, boom!" He unleashed the poison-type stamp he'd gotten with orioncayge at the Artist's Corner and fistpumped when purple liquid burst all over the boss, coating the nearby 'Back to School' UNOVR collection as well. Kenny grinned sheepishly, still tapping the screen. "Oops, didn't mean to do that!"
Then he did a double take, seeing who was next to him. "What the hoop? Aren't you Verai?" Either that or a very convincing cosplayer! "You helped me with my cat! Hey, Summer!" He looked around for his little sister, but couldn't find her in the crowd. "Where are you? This is the guy who helped with Whiskers!" Uh-oh, had she gotten lost?

It wasn't his fault, it was his manager chewing him out for something that he felt was utterly not worthy of being scolded for so long, and because of that, he only reached the tail end of a super massive raid! For a prize! He only learned about it through the notification! He cursed as he put on the AR Glasses (replacing them with the fake ones he was wearing) and ran to where the map was telling him to go, which seemed to be...at the Pokemon Center?! It was a little confusing to see both the real life items (and people who were just happily not participating in the event) and those that were scrambling with their phones, sending out attacks in order to hit the giant Polygon 2.
It was quick to obliterate what Vernon assumed was a line of adorable Litten plushies (Littens were that popular? What about Sprigagito, which was the current Gen catto?) Other than that, it seemed way too focused on wreaking havoc rather than attacking any players directly (and he did think about this, because he couldn't get the Thunderfall Raid out of his mind). This one seemed to be a more straightforward challenge, so he swiped through the five stamps he collected and chose the one that was super effective against the boss' current typing, which happened to be Poison.
❝Right, here goes nothing!❞ he pressed the Psychic attack and sent AR translucent shockwaves at the Porygon 2.

Well, he was actually near the end of his final shift when the boss battle was announced. His temporary boss wouldn't mind if he skedaddled to participate, right? So there were people around who witnessed a Piplup raise his head ever so slightly before waddling off in a hurry, almost tripping over himself, before retreating to one of the staff rooms in the back. Shedding the costume was always one of his favorite parts of the job, just because of that cool rush of air that welcomed him (though, he didn't like the smell...he had to grab some kind of air freshener for himself). Once he had gotten himself looking a little more presentable (and he had also stored the costume), he ran back out with the AR glasses he had with his things.
And there was the Porygon...2? Not quite C0D13. Not the one he met on the Beta Island, anyway. It was comically large and ready to rumble as it sucked in all of the virtual merch in the Pokemon Center. Plushies were a particular target - and he wondered where it all went (into data, if he was thinking literally) - and oh no, the Pokemon stationary, featuring various summer themes and many Alolan Pokemon! Wasn't that super pointy?
Anyway, there was a mention about how the boss' type changed every time it got hit. Last it refreshed, it was currently a type. Good thing he had the stamp just for it and that he had been studying Pokemon matchups for a while now. He swiped to the stamps he had and pressed  , sending a flurry of void-like balls at the target.

C0D13_2 disappears in a flash of annoyed pixels, leaving the AR Pokemon Center in disarray.
The voice of Booth Bethany comes through the loudspeakers once more. "ATTENTION TRAINERS! C0D13_2 has been sighted in the Dream Kingdom Lounge! He's heading for the John. B Hydance Cryo-Pod!"
The screens throughout the convention switch to a shot of a nature-themed rest lounge, where the startlingly pink visage of C0D13_2 floats menacingly through the hall towards a set of glowing pods at the far end.
"Hurry! We can't let him wake up Mr. Hydance!"

THUNK.
Orion smashed his dome against the well built and sturdy side view mirror as he jolted upwards to find new cover. It, like all of the car, was built wrangler tough and was significantly harder than Orion's dome, leaving nary a ding or scratch in the paint. Orion, on the other hand, was not fueled by crazy video game energy or shitty flute music, so he was rather human. Humans don't like getting clunked on the head by most things, ESPECIALLY not a built tough Jeep wrangler sideview mirror.
THUNK.
The fighter landed on his ass dazed for a moment, one of the nearby staff practically shitting their Wrangler Jorts as they darted over to help attend to the dazed dude. Everything moved as a blur as other players dashed and dodged imaginary projectiles and digital devils, Orion did his best to center himself but one of the medics who'd been rightfully on standby quickly found him and went to work doing their best to put UNOVRs star memester back into the mix.
Needless to say Orion had to sit out the whole phase two of the fight, much to his chagrin. Something about tapping on a flashing phone when potentially concussed was off the table according the medic.
Fucking stick in the mud.
Anyways, with the all clear from the doc, a cold bottle of water, a band-aid and an icepack to prevent any swelling, Orion was back into the mix. He quickly hunted down Yggy Br00ks and gave his hair a tussle as the two hauled ass to the next stage of the fight. All around him were familiar faces, or at least he thought maybe they were at least. Was that actually @kallisto ? or just a really convincing cosplay? Passing by a glowing pod that had seemingly risen out from some hidden hatch in the floor labeled Orama (RIP best prez you were a real one) he slid into place and posed in front of Codie.

Rose honestly, didn't quite seem to understand what was going on. Her phone was absolutely a hand-me-down from her cousin, and the app didn't quite work so well. But she had just finally got it working in time to suddenly see a massive Porygon 2 floating down the hallway.
"Woah!" She blinked, grinning widely to herself in shock. These AR glasses were so neat!
"Umm- Okay, how do I-" She mumbled to herself, glancing up at the Pokemon boss, back down to her phone. Did she really only have one attack? She pressed the button, and the animation of a smack appeared on screen like a cute graphic. Or maybe more of a tackle? It was hard to tell! Still, the HP went down, so it must have worked!
"Ooh, good! You're going down, meanie! Don't wake up Mr. John! He's sleeping! You can't wake someone up when they are sleeping, that's rude! Bad boy! You might also wake up. Ms. Naptime! You can't wake her up, she's a sleepy!"
Of course, her attention was immediately drawn to the man suddenly yelling about killing the Porygon2. Were they supposed to kill? A look of immediate confusion, worry, and fear spread across her face. She'd never killed a Pokemon before! That would be wrong!
"Uh, excuse me, Mister?" She spoke towards orioncayge , her little legs quickly running to catch up with the crowd. "Uh, don't Pokemon faint?"

Damn it, he had nothing for the other typings! Vernon ran with the other players to the Dream Lounge, but he had no idea who Hydance was (besides the fact that he was the name of the company--he supposed he played a part during the beta, perhaps? Why was he in a cyro-pod? Wasn't there a mention about one of the guild leaders who was also woken up by a cryo-pod??)
Anyway, he happened to be nearby a little girl without her parents (where were her parents? Guardians? Anybody??) who was also joining in on the raid. Somehow, she seemed to be more comfortable and understood the situation more than Vernon did. Was it possible that she was actually a player like many of the people here? Then again, there were a lot of younger people running around, and Aster was also pretending to be one, so...
He decided to chime in with Rose Garden , ❝Uh, what she said! Hydance can't wake up! (I don't know why though!)❞ it was also hard to miss orioncayge yelling his heart out - it was clear that 1) he and that Porygon 2 have serious beef, and 2) wait a minute, wasn't this dude in the Thunderfall Raid, shouting up a storm? He was one of the original players, wasn't he? Damn, that was amazing! (He looked injured though). He clicked his tongue when the boss changed to Electric (and as far as he knew, there were no ground type stamps), so he choose a random stamp and let the attack fly. That turned out to be a series of phantom fists, pummeling the boss.

At least until he heard the announcement regarding a strange boss named "COD13_2" having run rampant around the convention center. At first, he was skeptical about it. But after getting text messages from his friends who were visiting with him for the last day, he wore the glasses and his jaw dropped to see the large Porygon2.
"That's something you don't see every day." He looked around and saw a familiar face in the crowd of people nearby. Shiro rushed to Vernon's (@comet) side as he took out his phone and heard what he said. He vaguely recalled there was an urban legend about Hydance's head being frozen or something, but that's something he rather not question at this time. "Hey, let me help you guys a bit," Shiro offered. "No clue what's going on, but I can't just leave this alone, can't I?"
From the instructions, having stamps might be important for the boss battle. He did recall getting a stamp before the Clanwars 2 announcement, so he decided to use it while the giant Porygon2 was distracted.

M'Foxy had hauled ass when C0D13_2 had vanished, scampering after the malevolent duck-shapped apparition.
Destruction of merch was one thing- but reviving the sleeping gods in the hall's posession? That was too far.
She ran to get in a good defensive postion, skittering past @comet and Morpheus to whirl, a nine-tailed last line of defense. There would be no awakening of John Hydance, no resurrection of Barack Orama, and Ms. Naptime was staying put.
Looking defiantly at the massive Porygon2, M'Foxy raised her hands, power thrumming between them (via the app). She locked eyes with the foul creature, power building.
"Mind Crush!" She yelled, magenta energy swarming the boss.

Orion stopped dead as he turned back to the little girl. Wait, was that...? Oh shit this wasn't the game it definitely did NOT censor his shit for the little homies. No wonder he'd been getting dirty looks from parents all trip. Party fuckin foul dude. He would turn to Rose and shake his head slightly. "Oh Sh-" he realized he was about to do it again and totally pivoted gracefully to another word. "Schnap. Oh Schnap lil homie you're right! Porygon! Not uh...whatever it was I just said mhmmm." He would nod his head a little too eagerly.
"Why don't we team up and throw down with him together Rosie! I'm right here to keep you safe from the big bad mon!"
He frantically scanned the crowd for some sort of parental figure, hoping desperately that he wasn't just talking to some lost little girl and about to get accused of being some sort of creeper. Unsure, he figured it was better to keep an eye on her so nobody else tried anything...weird.
Keeping one eye on the child, he would turn back to the game. Ah yes, he was currently weak to grass type! He would organize a push! "BANDANNADITOS! ASSEMBLE UNDER THE CRYO POD OF JOHN BOFA HYDACE! WE SHALL UNITE IN ONE FINAL GLORIOUS STAND! HIT EM WITH THE MEAN GREEN!"
Orion and several of his fellow Cayge Match Impersonators gathered together and began rapidly tapping their phones dramatically while one guy played the NFL on FOX theme over a Bluetooth speaker.

Atsushi looked up to stare at them as if they were dumb as shit— which was ridiculous, of course, because he was the one who thought wearing a Moltres costume would get him closer to his online crush.
“Fuck no? This isn’t a video game.”
Ren snorted, leaning their elbows on his head. They were riding his shoulders now, because using your legs is an L. “Then your gains ain’t shit, boy! We could be landing crits right now.” They pointed to orioncayge and the Great Wall of Bulking Bandanettes. “See that? If we could get all those screamers in line, I bet we could chuck Hydance's pod at the duck. Johnny Crash us some loot.”
“I am not paying off your property damage again, you little shit. Just get your points and bounce.”
“I could bounce a quarter off this balding head of yours,” Ren sneered from behind their mask, ignoring Atsushi’s immediate squawk of protest in order to whip out their jailbroken fully-modded Goldfish Le Billion 5GS Luxor Deluxe Cobra phone and press the attack button at 400APM.

William was still a complete newbie to the game and had absolutely no idea how it was meant to be played; he had yet to finish any tutorials or try battling in general. Despite all of it, he'd seen a popup about the event ending today and had desperately wanted to give it a shot. He just hoped he wouldn't be too much of a drag to the other players due to his obvious lack of experience.
Finally making it to the right area, William saw several people attacking the duck-looking Pokemon at once. He supposed it was getting near the end now, seeing as there were mere hours left until the end. He'd expected to see people with their Pokemons, landing attacks and so forth, but instead, he was faced with a sea of people on their phones? Confused, and admittedly too embarrassed to ask, William realized this was less of a Pokemon battle and more of a group clicking game. That was probably for the better he thought as he navigated himself to the attack button and curiously pressed down on it. He could see that the ducks HP was already on the red, so it could have been that he was too late to participate; at least he'd tried in that case.

Oh good, Logan wasn't the only one getting here at the eleventh hour, or who looked a bit confused about what exactly was going on here; he saw at least one other person in the area who looked every bit as confused as Logan felt, and Logan felt a strange sense of superiority as he was able to pull up his own version of the UNOVRCon a bit quicker than the other person--the other player--had pulled up his before.
Maybe if he had been in the Dream Kingdom Lounge earlier... but Logan felt self-conscious enough crossplaying as Bunya, and adding his very pink and feminine user avatar to the mix had felt like a bridge too far for him, before he's heard that there was some excitement involved, and maybe even some in-game loot to boot.
Was he too late to get in on the action? Well, even if he was, he'd get a STAMP out of the deal at least, thanks to a helpful if tired-looking Hydance employee at the stamp booth nearby. It was better than nothing, at the very least. And hey, sometimes with this sort of thing, every last bit helped... even from a player who perpetually felt like he was running one step behind...

His automated voice has slowed to a crawl and it sounds like watching a video on 0.5x speed. <You have acquired additional loot boxes.> Sparks crackle across his body, and his weightless form tilts to one side. <If you are satisfied with this battle, please fill out the satisfaction survey in the official UNOVRCON app.>
And then C0D13_2 explodes, filling the VR space with confetti, sparks, RAM, and flying 1's and 0's.
The garden becomes a symphony of notification pings from the UNOVR app. Anyone trying to get a quick nap nearby has given up by now.

John Hydance's cryo pod is safe, and the crowd moves off in the direction of Bethany's Booth.
