"Isn't it a bit early fo—"
Oz wouldn't get to finish saying what he was saying.
He was crowned with a somewhat matching white Santa hat with golden bells (lopsided thanks to the dragon horns atop of his head), given a sack of presents to deliver, and quite literally kicked out the door of the messy laboratory with nothing but a quest pop up to tell him what to do next. And, well, that's that, then... Not even through their chimneys? Not particularly Christmas-lore accurate, but Oz definitely prefers this simpler way. Kind of makes him like an AMZN delivery guy, right? Sure would be a shame if this were to end up like those American 'porch pirate' compilations.
But, anyway, he waits... He waits and waits and waits... Not even for that long at all, but Oz is prone to exaggerating. So, yeah, he waits until finally the quest updates when a stranger appears, and of course, they're greeted with a slight smile and a nod.
"Yo, you got dragged into this too? I'm Oz, good to meet ya."

William had decided to tackle the tutorials in order; this was the second suggested tutorial so here he was. Such a strangely festive tutorial for autumn he thought as he noticed the other player who had arrived before him.
"Indeed," he said with a smile, "I'm William, it's nice to meet you." He offered his hand for the other player to shake, a little glad that the tutorials included other players. It made him feel a little better knowing that he wasn't the only one starting out, though he wondered if returning players or people with multiple characters also had to play through these.
"I'm quite new to games in general, I hope you don't mind," he added sheepishly

"Hey, William." Oz echoes the offered name, a hint of intricate tattoos peeking beneath a sleeve when he reaches out for a quick and firm handshake. Oz himself is usually more a fist bumping guy, but when in Rome... Or, well, when in Briarbane? Neat name. "Are you really? That's fuckin' awesome. Like, bet UNOVR is one hell of an introduction. Literally deep diving into it, eh?" With a chuckle, an stereotypically Canadian interjection, and a hearty pat on the back, Oz welcomes his quest partner to the game. He shifts his hold on the sack of gifts then, carrying it over his shoulder to make things easier. "If you have any questions, just let me know, yeah? I'm new to UNOVR too, but I've been gaming like... all my life, pretty much." Now, as for the tutorial... Oz's gaze falls upon his quest tracker, and tapping on the air, he opens his UI's menu at reduced opacity. "Hmm... Okay. Houses we gotta deliver gifts to are marked on our maps, so that's easy enough. Typical tutorial stuff. I guess this one is geared towards helping new players figure out how to find their way around the game and all that."

William was a bit surprised by the... Vulgar pleasantness. It actually made him chuckle a little as he offered a smile and a nod. "Indeed, I don't think I've ever even tried on the headset thing before," he admitted, "It's quite overwhelming I must say, especially with how realistic everything feels. It caught me completely off guard; I had no idea technology had come this far."
"It did take me some time to learn how to navigate the little map thing. It was very distracting to have it constantly floating about in the beginning," he admitted sheepishly as he adjusted his own bag of gifts. He'd played santa when Lucy had been young, so it was rather pleasant to go about giving gifts again. The closest he got to "surprise" gifts these days were the office christmas parties with secret santa at work and this year he wouldn't even be doing that. He veru quickly pushed those thoughts away and smiled. "I quite appriciate the game having different tutorials for different things, even if all the menus and such are a bit overwhelming for now."
"Shall we head to the nearest one then?" William asked as he eyes the map. There were a few spots to drop gifts by, but none seemed to me unreasonably far.

It's kind of funny how different people can be, right? Oz himself has always had videogames as a part of his life. Yeah, sure, it's not like he has ever been locked in his room gaming all day (he has always been way too active to be able to do that), but he is undoubtedly what most would call a gamer. On the other hand, Will reminds him more of... well, how his dad would react if he ever played UNOVR. Yet, here they are, two completely different people playing the same game, and that's fucking awesome to him. "Oh yeah, for sure. Tutorials are like... designed for people who are just getting into it and stuff. Bet that's helpful as hell, huh? There's a lot to figure for sure, but just just poking around through your UI is good to learn what kind of stuff you can do. Eh... Your menu, that is."As they talk, Oz begins to walk, having opened his map to try to figure out a good route for this delivery. Since its a tutorial, he assumes the goal here is teaching some basic game navigation skills: following location marks, finding routes, looking up a destination, etc. Simple enough. Easy. No problem! They've got this! "Looks like that's one of the houses." He says, nodding towards a notoriously gothic building with gargoyles at the porch and everything. It's very Addams Family, but then again, that's half of Briarbane, with the other being Westworld and Woody from Toy Story (Yes, these are barely-millenial Oz's main points of reference for all things western). "Should we just... Leave it at the porch? That feels kinda wrong."Oz is all for contactless deliveries, but he isn't about to get blamed for a gift being stolen and then sent to Asper County Jail. No thanks!

Willaim could only smile and nod in agreement; they were indeed helpful and he was quite thankful for them. He was already so lost, he could only imagine how much more so he'd be without all the handholding. "You seem quite knowledgable about games in general," William noted as they made their way towards the first house, "is there a reason you're doing the tutorials too? Oh, I suppose each game probably has different menus and such." As he practically answered his own question, he scratched his chin with his free hand before adjusting the bag over his shoulder once more.
"Is stealing from porches a thing in VR too?" William asked, surprised. Such an absurd level of realism, he thought as he lowered his own bag. "Perhaps we can do a semi-contactless delivery where we ring the bell and leave the yard. This way we can make sure the package gets delivered without getting caught up in a chat with the recipient? That's usually how they'd deliver small packages to the office where I worked at."
Since there were other packages to deliver, it just seemed like the most logical answer to their issue; this way they could make sure everything was safely delivered without possibly wasting time. Not that he specifically minded chatting with the characters marked as NPC's, but he assumed Oz too was planning on completing the other tutorials too and he'd hate to hold the other player up just because he could talk about the weather for a few hours with a stranger if that made the other person happy.

"They do, yeah, though a lot of it becomes kinda intuitive when you've been playing games for a while." Oz admits with a chuckle and a smirk as he walks by Will's side. "Still, in games like UNOVR there's stuff that you gotta do the tutorials to unlock, like the running shoes and the golden Pokéball and so on. You also gotta do them for star and title requirements, and to unlock certain classes, so it's kinda good practice to just finish them all."Now, see, Oz is not here to overwhelm Will with information or anything, and he doubts most new players would look into most of that stuff, but he mentions it anyway because it's useful stuff to know. Plus, might as well make small talk while they do their deliveries, right? This might take a while, although it seems Will has a solution for that. "Oh... Yeah, good idea. I like that." Oz smiles, a white dragon's tail giving one long swish behind his back. He reaches into his bag then, taking a moment to find the parcel meant for this one particular address. "Jesus, why is there a Cerulean Boulevard, a Cerulean Street, Cerulean Road, and Cerulean Lane? Who the hell came up with that" He sighs, but finally a parcel is brought out and left at the door before the bell is rung. "Alright! Where to next?"

"There's certainly no running out of things to do here from the sound of it," William noted with a chuckle. He found it all quite overwhelming; even picking a class during the character creation had seemed like such a strange concept to him so hearing there were more of them than just the three introduced in the beginning was surprising. He couldn't help but to wonder what class his kid had picked and if they'd had goals relating to the additional classes offered in the game.
"I quite like the naming convention, it makes it clear that these areas are nearby," William admitted as they waited for a person to appear to take the package inside. He gave a smile and a wave to the young man who opened the door, clearly pleased to have received the package. "Or at least I assume these areas are near each other?" he continued, "otherwise I must agree for it to be rather confusing."
With the first package delivered, William took a look at the map to try and spot the next marker. It felt a little weird to be able to see himself on the map even when moving; he was used to paper maps from when he'd been young. At least that made him quite comfortable with maps in general, even if they were weird and futuristic. "The next one doesn't seem to be too far at all. It seems we can get there faster by walking through a field."

Filled with a deeply rooted desire to excel that sadly never transferred to academics, Oz is one of those people who tends to look up a lot of information about a game before he even starts playing, so that his gameplay will be optimal and there is no time wasted. ...Does that make him an impatient person? Well, if judging by the way he simply fiddles with his UI while waiting for someone to open the door and pick up package, the answer is 'no', but that may or may not have to do with the fact that he had prepared for this when deciding to do a tutorial. Then again, like many professions, being a tattoo artist does require a high degree of patience. "Judging by the map, it's one big street that goes across most of the settlement. It even ends up leading to Mom's House and the trade shop." He tells Will about Cerulean Boulevard once the package has been safely delivered, beginning to walk to the next destination with his own map still open before him at a diminished opacity — like a strange overlay above the sight of the Briarbane's rather busy streets. "Oh. You're right, there's a shortcut." Oz smiles at that, glad for it. "Let's head that way, then. We might run into some kind of obstacle there, so keep a close eye on things."Then again, it could be that the tutorial just wants them to find the most optimal route, but he still closes his UI and makes sure to have a Pokéball at the ready... just in case.

"Skipping through a field to save time makes me think back to my college days," William chuckled as they turned tail and headed towards the field. He'd always been a good student but for a while, he'd really struggled with getting out of bed in the mornings. He'd been so self-critical and kicked himself over it for so long, only to see the nurse and find out he'd been suffering from iron deficiency; it had been so glaringly obvious in the end he'd been genuinely embarrassed for not having realized it sooner. He shook his head slightly at the memory.
"You mentioned the possibility of an obstacle. What kind of obstacles are common in a game like this?" William found himself wondering, "I do remember kids in school making jokes about tiny trees and bushes being roadblocks in the old games but I assume it's something a bit more... sophisticated?" English was still his second language so immediately after saying it, William wondered if 'sophisticated' was even a word that fit in the sentence and made sense. He really hoped ozone wouldn't think he was just trying to sound smart, that would be so embarrassing. It just genuinely happened to be the first word that had popped into his mind; the small pause and the tone of his voice should have indicated some sort of uncertainty with the choice of word but he still worried about being taken the wrong way.

"Yeah? Bet you were a great student, eh? You have that vibe to you. As for myself... I was more likely to skip through a field to cut class back in college." Oz laughs, perhaps entirely too honest, but there's no shame when thinking back to those days, and his only real regret is actually having enrolled in Engineering school in the first place. It was what his father had always wanted for him, but as for his own wishes... well... Those thoughts of days that are behind him keep Oz occupied as they walk through the field, but he'll happy to toss them aside when a question is thrown his way. Crossing his arms and somehow still managing to hold firmly onto the sack of packages while doing so, he ponders on the matter before giving Will a response: "Sophisticated, huh?" He chuckles as that, although not at all mocking. "I'm pretty sure the days of needing the Cut move to get past branches along the road are long behind us, thankfully. Buuut... it could totally be something blocking the way or even a Pokémon jumping out to attack us. How are you in a fight, Will?"A smile shines when he meets his companion's gaze. Whatever their obstacle may be, Oz clearly isn't concerned.

"You're telling me I look like a nerd?" William asked with a light laugh. He'd heard that before and took no offence, he was just teasing ozone a bit. "I feel like I took my studies a bit too seriously at times, back then missing a class or getting a bad score really felt like the end of the world sometimes." Of course, even he had had his fair share of nights out and hangovers on school days, just less frequently than a lot of other students.
"I, oh, I'm not very good," William immediately admitted when Ozone brought up the possibility of a battle, "but I'd of course try my best regardless. I picked a support class for my Snivy so hopefully, I'd be able to offer some help if it came to that at least." It was very obvious that Ozone was a lot more confident about whatever the game had planned for them than he was. It was always a little embarrassing when people clearly younger than him were better at what could be considered basics of the game than him. Of course, he'd never hold that against himself and only try to use such silly feelings for motivation to do better in the future.
"You mentioned before you've been playing games for a long time. Does that mean you've been a fan of the Pokemon franchise for a long time too then?"

"Ha! Nothing wrong with being a nerd, though. Hell, I wish I had cared a little more about school" He smiles, but it's not exactly the truth. Just about everyone in Oz's life had wanted and expected him to care about his studies and excel at school, and perhaps to rebel against those wishes or perhaps out of his sheer nature, he had done the exact opposite. By contrast, Will gives him the air of someone who has his life together, and as someone who definitely didn't have his life together for a long time, Oz knows to value that. "Hey, support's pretty helpful. I've been playing Pokémon since I was a kid, but—" Oz would have gone on to explain how he has always favourite multiplayer formats over playing games alone, and so, instead of having fond childhood memories of playing Pokémon FireRed or whatever other game in the core series, his happy memories are of beating his sister at Pokémon Stadium 2 on their Nintendo 64 over and over. He would have gone on to say all that, had he not been stunned to silence by the sight of the field suddenly and abruptly ending a few metres ahead. A cliff? No. A step closer makes the truth clear to him: it's a ledge. "Damn, these never looked nearly this deep in the games." It's kind of a brutal fall as far as ledges go, a meter or two at least, but it's doable enough (or it is in the mind of this parkour enthusiast), and if Will isn't up for it, they can always go around it like they do in the games, right? When Oz turns to his left, he notices ruffling in the grass. Pokémon are beginning to gather, probably drawn out by the sound of their conversation, the smell of whatever goods are in their bags, or more realistically, the cruel programming that relates to this tutorial. "Alright, Will, jump or fight. Your call!" Despite the sudden dire shift in circumstances, Oz gives him a smile. Clearly, he's having fun. It's almost like he's saying: 'Ha! I knew there'd be an obstacle!'

William too was clearly caught off guard by the sudden change in terrain. For a man whose last time hiking or doing anything related to getting down steep surfaces such as this, he admittedly wasn't the biggest fan of the idea of jumping down. "Oh, to be young and athletic," he said sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. "I do not think I'd be able to get down this without hurting myself."
While speaking, he too was alerted to the ruffling in the nearby grass; it was tall enough to seemingly hide whatever Pokemon was approaching, or perhaps it was an intended feature to build tension. Either way, William wasn't really a fan of either idea, but it felt like he had very little choice in the matter. At least ozone seemed to be having a good time, just enjoying the game as it was intended. It did make him feel a little silly.
"I've not battled against a wild Pokemon before. I'm afraid you'll have to guide me through the basics," he admitted, hoping the younger man wouldn't mind.

A light laugh escapes Oz's lips and rises in the air carelessly, truly unbothered by the situation they're in. Then again, little seems capable of bothering Oz, and that's even more true in a game like this one. He always takes it all in stride."Nah, don't sweat it. We totally got this. Though, for the record, I'm pretty sure you can reduce your pain settings if you wanna run around without having to worry about hurting yourself or about old man pains." He smirks at that last part, teasing Will just so slightly. A Pokéball is chucked towards the grass there and then, and in a flash of light, a small blue penguin appears before them. "Yo, Peri. Show these things who's boss and beat the shit out of 'em!" Is this the sort of vocabulary that he should be teaching to his young and impressionable starter Pokémon? Probably not, but when accounting for Oz's own behaviour, how Very Peri acts then should come as no surprise: <'Oh, yeah? You think you're tough, eh?'> Peri speaks menacingly at... the grass, waving one of his flippers to point at the rustling verdant blades. <'Yeah, you! I'm talking to you, bruh! You picked the wrong Piplup to mess with, fool!'>What follows is a WATER GUN and in its pressure, a small Patrat being shot out of the grass. Oz looks like he's trying his best to resist the urge to laugh at his Pokémon's weird mannerisms, perhaps for the sake of Peri's pride, if anything.
