Giving Ares a great big hug as he jogged out of the Professor's Lab, Josh couldn't be happier. He had a Pokémon of his own, and one that, when fully grown, would become a great big dragon. The world would be at his fingertips. Though he could not fly high on such a behemoth, he could fly far, and more importantly, fast. As he was giving Ares a gentle rub on the head after setting the Charmander down, a prompt scrolled across the top of his HUD. At the same time, a new location was marked on his map:
Information> Obtained PARCEL x 1. New objective: Deliver PARCEL to its rightful owner.
The blonde, spiky-haired man rolled his eyes. Did the recipient have to be clear on the other side of town? Why couldn't he just have a Ponyta for a starter? That would have made this task a lot easier. And faster. Either way, he started walking straight, orienting the mini-map's destination marker directly at the top of the rotating compass.
As he would find out, there would be no straight path from the lab to his destination. Rose Garden

"I don't think I like this box." Rose frowned, the cardboard box dripping goop on the ground as she held it still. What did Bunya put in here? It was like she poured very sticky soup in the box! Except, it also seemed like it growled at her when she wasn't paying attention.
She really did not like this box. Shuddering, goosebumps spread across her skin. Rose instinctively went to drop it, only for her sticky fingers to keep it caught to her hand. Oops.
"Okay Rosie," She spoke to herself, mumbling as she looked at the map. "Where are we going to get rid of the goop box?" It growled again, and this time Rose just frowned. "You quit that! You're not gonna get there any faster, goop!"
The box grew silent again, and she sighed. The little girl supposed it was time to get going. Her little beetle wings fluttered furiously, hovering her off the ground by just barely an inch as she began to move. Only to immediately see someone else with a box in their hands too.
"Hey! Hey!" Rose immediately giggled, her feet plopping straight down on the floor as she held up her gross, dripping goo box to the man in front of her. "You're delivering the package too, yeah? Everyone does this at some point! I just, forgot. Whoops!"

Observing Rose in front of him after having to turn around and find an alternate way around a fenced park, Josh heard all of her complaining. There was nothing special about the parcel he had been assigned to take to the destination; perhaps it was supplies. "Wow, you really got the short end of the stick, didn't you?" he asked after Rose got his attention. "Yep! It's free quest experience. And you need all the experience you can get; I hear after the tutorial area, the early game spawns can be awful to deal with until you gain a few levels."
"Name's Josh, aspiring Pokémon racer," he introduced himself, not knowing if Rose had player-name tooltips on. "And this is Ares," he introduced the feisty Charmander.
"This is boring! When are we gonna go to Route 1 so I can roast some bugs alive?" Ares quipped.
"Soon enough," Josh sternly answered. "I'd rather not have my introduction to the game be a trip through the Everworld. Once I feel comfortable taking you out there, we'll go." Rose Garden

"Aww, why did Bunya give me the goop box, and not everyone else?" She frowned, just laughing quietly despite that. It continued to drip goop on the ground, and the contact with the grass made this horrific smell that nearly made her gag.
"I'm Rose, and-" She just slowly grew quiet. Her eyes would slowly shift over to Ares, the Charmander. Her frown only deepened, and her little beetle wings suddenly fluttered furiously behind her. "Hey! Those buggies are my friends! Don't go killing them, or I'll cover you in goo! Only bad guys!" Rose threateningly held the box out, more goop slopping down to the ground in a solid thunk.
"Anyways!" Her attention would shift right back to Josh. "I've been playing a long time! I've walked through town so often! It's like, the back of my hand!" She paused, suddenly wiping goo off her hand and then nodding. "Just follow me, Mr. Racer Man, Sir! I looked at my map, and I know where we gotta go!"
Rose would seemingly just casually kick off her shoes and seemingly toss them straight over the fence of the park. She'd step forwards, placing her bare feet against the fence and somehow stick straight to it as she walked right up and over. "Come on!" She'd giggle, suddenly dropping out of sight into the park.

The stench made Josh and even Ares cough, as well. The noise the fluttering wings made, if any, would have caused he and his Pokémon to flinch, drowning out any answer they wanted to give until the wingbeats stopped. Pinching his nose, Josh stepped in front of his energetic Charmander. "I'b sorry about dat," the young man tried to speak with his nose shut. "He's looking for oppodedts he cad win agaidst. He's really ubset he cad't seeb to win at all."
The newcomer tried to smile the best he could, appreciative of the guide. Once the smell wasn't quite so bad, he let go of his nose. "I'll tag along. Would be great having a second to help learn the town. I'm sure I'll be back here often, too. Mom's nagging me to check in periodically with her."
Josh raised an eyebrow when Rose started walking across the wilds barefoot, but didn't say anything about it. He had his weird quirks, too; when he got a Pokémon capable of it, he would ride anywhere the game permitted him to, even if it was for short distances. "Coming!" Josh chirped back, keeping some distance and trying to stay upwind to not have to deal with that awful smell as much.

Right across the fence, Rose would slip her shoes right back on. She wasn't entirely sure that she needed to take her shoes off to stick to the walls like her favorite bug-themed super heroes, but it certainly felt appropriate!
"Well, I can show you all around town! I've been eeeverywhere!" She'd giggle with excitement, shaking the gooey box in an attempt to get more of the goo off of it. When it touched the grass, it hissed angrily...
That probably wasn't a great sign, but oh well!
"So! All we gotta do is follow the markers! I think! It's like, you know! The normal games! Gotta give a box to someone before you can explore the world! Except- Well I already explored." She shrugged, walking right along the park fence so that they weren't really that far apart from each other. Sure enough, it wouldn't be long before the quest markers would lead them down a few blocks, before eventually directing them to walk straight through a local store front, and out the back door.
But that would be tresspassing! Right? Maybe it was the fastest way, but that would be super rude!
"Umm," Rose began to speak, glancing up at the taller player nearby her. "Maybe we should... find a way around. Ooh! We can climb over if you want! That sounds fun!" Because climbing on top of the store, was far less rude and illegal than walking through it. Certainly.

"That'd be great! Thank you!" Josh gratefully accepted Rose's offer, following her as she presumably gave him a guided tour. Knowing where things like the grocery store, the church, the upgrade shop, and the park were would be very helpful. He would also be able to form a route to learn with his ride Pokémon with when he was experienced enough to hop on them. Fast travel was convenient, yes, but it would skip out on the whole reason why he joined UNOVR in the first place: to saddle up.
Josh was especially confused when Rose suggested they go over the store in their way. Was it testing his ability to interact with doors? Probably. Why, then, would she want to go around it. "How, though? The wall is too slippery to climb up, and I'm not Mario," he jeered, referencing the flagship Nintendo series that Rose's player perhaps had some experience with. "Don't expect me to wall jump in the alley. Why not just use the door?"

"Because, umm, it's rude! I think? My auntie told me not to walk behind the counter at the bakery. The employees don't like it! So, we should just go over." She nodded her head, as if this was completely sage wisdom.
Wise beyond her years, clearly.
"But oh, climbing is really easy!" Rose would get the widest grin possible on her face, almost eager to show off her tricks some more. Once again, she seemingly took off her shoes, setting the box down for just a second as she did so. It continued to ooze, leaving a gross stain on the road that she hoped wouldn't be on her hands after this.
With a huff, Rose tied her shoes together before reeling back, and chucking it onto the roof of the store! Without any delay, she suddenly picked up the box again, her beetle wings unfurling from the shell on her back and fluttering furiously as she floated just a few inches off the ground as she moved over to the wall.
And then promptly just placed her bare feet right against the slick, slippery wall, and stuck instantly. Her wings stopped, and she ended up just standing completely perpendicular to the wall. "Tada!" She'd immediately wave one of her hands, almost dropping the box in the process as it slicked with some more goo.
"I can climb good! My buggy friends taught me how!" She'd finally offer somewhat of an explanation, beginning her ascent as she walked up slowly. "Do you think you can make it somehow? I got friends that can help if you can't! Gerana is very good at lifting people!"

Josh covered his ears as Rose's extremely loud wings fluttered. Was this what flying on a bug Pokémon would be like? It seemed like a bug-type would be the Pokémon he'd be able to fly on the soonest, but he wouldn't be able to hear a thing sitting mere feet from wings beating loudly enough to drown out all other noise, even from the distance he was at.
Josh clapped for Rose before shrugging and giving a sheepish reply to the eccentric child. "I... don't think I can climb that well," he answered. "Certainly not on a wall that slippery. And my flying Pokémon is too small to carry me. Might have to take you up on Gerana lifting me over. What kind of Pokémon are they?" Perhaps he should have asked that first; if Gerana was a bug-type that flew, his limbs might fall limp from the vibrations.
