"So here's the deal!" Bunya starts, swinging her shovel and chopping a skull in half with a cheerful crunch. All of a sudden, Domino feels queasy. These are human skulls. Surely they're not meant to represent all the people who have "died" (read: whited out) in Mistra, right? Surely it's just some ClanWar remnant graphics that fit the general Mistra "vibe" and thus were placed here. Yeah, that has to be it, that makes sense. Although... back when they had been told to introduce pickaxes and shovels as tools, had they purposefully been made powerful enough for a petite cat-enthusiast-scientist to easily smash bones to pieces? Disturbing, if so, but those are things for Hilda to ponder on, not Domino. The music, though... What the hell is up with the Christmas music?!"Yo... Do you hear that?" She asks the players nearby, standing from where she had been comfortably reclining on her Dudunsparce's back. Her sunglasses are lifted, looking at her surroundings. There's a few familiar faces, and she even spots Rook and Lord Darien Blackthorne, but it would seem that they're both entertained hanging out with friends and meeting new people, and it wouldn't be very cool of her to interrupt that right away — no matter how dire her concerns. Instead, her attention turns to the cute guy with a cute Litten ( Jian) whose comment she just so happened to overhear earlier. "You might be right with what you said. Better get our of here before we find out why there's Christmas music in January."Honestly, she wants to say that to all of them; to get herself a megaphone and shout it because this is just insane. Instead, she follows her own advice and grabs a shovel, because maybe, just maybe, this guy's right and if they do find fossils, they can get out of here sooner. Sure doesn't seem to work when another player nearby ( Hekate) finds a fossil, though. "Is it amber?" Domino asks her as the tip of her shovel meets the ground, her interest suddenly piqued. Fossil Pokémon had never really been her thing, but she will always undeniably be a huge Pokémon nerd. "Nice find. Aerodactyl's a pretty cool one."And just like that, suddenly while shoveling with the aid of a Dudunsparce that makes all this look way too easy, she also hits something.[Fossil]V_kXfJkZ1d15 DUDUNSPARCE || 300/350 1d15

The chatter of people, the sound of footsteps on tile, the beep of cash registers and rolling of carts all fill her ears. It prompts a twitch. The sounds are familiar, this is just another day at work and she's right in the middle of things.
She's slacking off. She shouldn't be doing that, she's at work.
Cypress continued to mine, the pickaxe providing a much needed difference in audio - clang, clang, clang...
The fear that rested inside her gut is turned to diligence, the familiar sounds pushing her forwards (she's working, she's at work, it's just another long shift and the tiredness in her bones is replaced with a metaphorical customer service smile and a chipper attitude as always! Occasionally, she'd glance over to Spearmint, checking on the mantis (concern filling her mind about the general malaise of the little mantis) before going back to her work.
Focus.
Focus.
The beat is still there, the rhythm is still there, just keep it going. You can't give up now.
Persistence and Great Service.

Lovely isn't exactly the word Tuesday would use to describe a Dunsparce, but it's a rare Pokémon with a decent coverage and good weakness distribution, and for that, she definitely approves of starlitlover's choice in companion. She does notice that he conveniently ignores her question about knowing Kazuki, though, and for that, she looks at the latter and rolls her eyes. "Of course whatever we find is covered in corruption. Lovely." Tuesday sighs when hearing Bunya's antics, and this use of the word 'lovely' is indeed nothing short of sarcastic. "Wait... Do you think that'll mean that whatever fossils we find will have the corruption type? The stats on that are pretty sick, not gonna lie... Ada, did you find one? Oh, never mind, that looks like a TM."Hard to obtain Pokémon? Exclusive type? That's all the speculation a power gamer like Tuesday needs to motivate herself, and sure enough, she swings her pickaxe. [Fossil]i70wDsf41d15 Yes, she's still very much alert and aware of this treacherous place and the ominous music all around, and her Pokémon is still very much instructed to keep watch, but... like... how can she say no to nice loot?Ah, the greed of an Alchemist. Adarsa frowned, stooping to pick up the... CD? Were there even CD players here? "TM?" He echoed, confusion on his face. What was a tee-emm? His gaze flicked to Tuesday 's patch of ash, blinking. "Is that a fossil?" He asked, sounding almost... giddy. "Let me see it!!"
Dahlia, left to her own devices, slowly eeked forward, flopping down heavily on another dig spot. Adarsa was oblivious- so this was her item, now.

"This game has a... interesting interpretation of archeology." Helios tells Rook and their Pokémon, inevitably chuckling when watching the little doctor lady dig things up while ranting on and on and on. It's sweet, and at least it looks like she's having a great time, which is what matters here. Archeology should be fun and exciting.Does he think the event will remain that way, though? Of course not. A lifetime of fantasy adventures had taught him better than to believe that a simple quest will remain a simple quest, and in this case, both the setting and the ambient music are ominous enough already. Is that jingle, even?"Odd choice of music aside..." He swings a pickaxe in a familiar motion once thought long-forgotten, not using excessive force out of natural concern for the state of whatever he might find and because... well... these old arms don't have the strength for that. Yet, while at this, his gaze wanders to walls around the valley they stand in. "...This place doesn't look like it was naturally formed. I wonder what happened... or what did this."There could be logical explanations, yes, but being that this is a game, his mind immediately goes to dragons and other sorts of giant monsters. Will they end up having to fight one of those? Honestly, he kind of hopes so.[Fossil]K78374iv1d15 FUECOCO || 300/350 HP 1d15

"A TM lets you teach certain Pokémon a specific move. Some can be really useful and some are kinda trash. Which one did you find?" Tuesday knows that the likelihood that starlitlover will actually listen to her explanation is minimal despite the fact that he asked, but how is he supposed to get any better at the game if he doesn't learn things like those? Of course, as should only be expected, her suspicions are immediately confirmed when his attention turns to the fossil she finds. In response, she sighs. Fossilized Dino (Arctozolt or Arctovish) Arctozolt? Arctovish? Neither are names she knows, which given the arguably-insane amount of research she had put into selecting the ideal Pokémon for her team based on rarity, type coverage, weaknesses, and aesthetic appeal, must mean that these are probably Pokémon that aren't good enough in her book. They either have bad type coverage or are ugly as fuck. "Here." She offers the fossil to Ada for him to have a look, and with another sigh, Tuesday searches on. [Fossil]oG2W7MzY1d15 Shouldn't she slow down a bit, though? She only has Linnear with her, and chances are that she may end up having to tell him to guard Ada, Rose, or even Kaz to keep them alive. Probably Ada, considering how much effort he's putting into digging. Damn. Honestly, she's almost proud; she has never seen this man work this hard for anything before. "Damn, you must really want a fossil. Take it easy, though... Hold up, the hell is that?"She means the spell tag[/] Ada had found. It looks useful.

None of it mattered. Not Alistair or his latest paramour, not the people clumped and clustered, not the children running amok. Not the so-called doctor, or the bizarre noise in the air.
All that mattered was the thrum of the earth, the way it sang in his bones. Potential. Clarity.
Remains [re-mains] n. any pieces, scraps, fragments, etc, that are left unused or still extant after use, consumption, the passage of time, etc.
Lacrimosa hummed, unnervingly at ease, bringing the weapon up and the down, as Bunya had, through a human skull with a sickening snap, a CD shattering as it was bent, a wooden board kicked enough to break.
And it would all break, and offer up what it knew.

Lucille listened intently to Dr. Bunya, the sound of crunching bone sending a shudder along her spine. It made sense that the top layer would be no good. They would have to clear some layers to get to the good stuff underneath. While she was only familiar with two generations of fossils, it made her wonder if they had come out with any more fossils since she had stopped playing the main games. Whatever they were, she hoped they were cool at least. Like a Tyrannosaurus Rex or a raptor, now raptors were some of her favorite dinosaurs. They looked cool, were intimidating, and could rip and tear flesh like no one's business. And the recent discoveries that they may have had feathers? Whew fluffy and deadly, sign her up. Now that Lucille thought about it, her Dragapult was almost prehistoric itself, being some kind of lizard-creature, it would make sense if that had been the case at some point. Pokémon did have a deep and rich history after all.
❝Byleth would you like to help me clear out the top layer? We might be able to get to something if you blast the ground with Dragon Darts. It would be like setting off dynamite. Just have to aim for the same spot. After that, I'll try the pickaxe to see what we find.❞ Lucille suggested, lifting her gaze to her draconic support companion. Byleth perking her head and nodding slowly before slinking her way down her trainer's back. The ghostly dragon shaking in anticipation as she took aim to an unoccupied spot and fired two sets of Dreepy-missiles, hoping the impact would shatter the ground enough to begin excavating for treasures that lurk beneath the depths.
Lucille lifted her hands up to cover her eyes from any debris and dust that came her way, waiting for the smoke to clear before she made her way to the impact site and began swinging her pickaxe, the distorted sleigh bells ringing in her ears insistently.

Adarsa looked sidelong at Tuesday. "Slow down with what? I'm not doing anything." Aside from looking at the fossil in his hands, slowly turning it this way and that in the dim light. "I- Mars, I think this is... um, fake. Like someone planted this." There was a spot on the spine where it went from tiny bones to. Big ones.
Thia was... two animals.
"Hmm?" He followed her gaze regardless, to Dahlia, a bit of paper stuck to her face. "Oh, sweetheart-" He cooed, pulling it off gently. More... useless stuff. Great.
CDs and paper and fake angel fossils. This whole thing was beginning to look like a scam. (Please pretend that was a cat pun.)
Adarsa huffed, tossing the pickaxe to the side, where it cleared another tile.

"More like it's the only thing that's... well, here," Josh answered, addressing Bee by name if his settings displayed it. He caught Granmarg's muscles twitching out of the corner of his eye; it was concerning. "This is my first time here. I don't think I could make it anywhere meaningful on my own until I get a stronger Pokémon and some more levels." Ah, the woes of early game hell. A lack of self-sustainability kept him from going anywhere. His only Support Pokémon was Ulysses, a Seel that could only move easily in water and on ice.
Time to get to work.
The music was... unsettling, to say the least. If Dr. Bunya was right, though, the only way to dig through the layers of rock would be in time with the music. A metronome appeared at the bottom of the young man's UI, though he didn't need it. He didn't play an instrument in-game or in the real world, but his music game experience outside the game let him remain within a tight timing window. There was something satisfying about seeing "Marvelous!!!" flash above the metronome with every impact of the pickaxe. Big Bee Open to interactions! Granmarg 450/500 [Fossil]joBfnI8X1d15 1d15

Adarsa had the whole of his attention on Dahlia, humming gently to the background music as he wiped her little face, unconsciously swaying in time with the beat. "There you go, sweetheart, isn't that better?" He cooed. He heard the dingy-noise, and glanced over at where his pickaxe was laying- Another fossil!
He scampered over, and picked it up- and frowned at the shape. It was an oval, with a band. It... kind of looked stupid, to be honest. Why were all the fossils here... bad?
At least, until his eyes flickered after movement- and some kid unearthed a fossil, a striking, beautiful feather, preserved perfectly. "Ah-" Adarsa's head snapped, looking at Tuesday. This- whatever that fossil was-
He needed it.
"Stay put, Dahlia-" He said, scrabbling over to grab the pickaxe. Dahlia, however, did not listen, slowly wiggling forward, and pitching down into another dig spot.

Alistair huffed out a sigh at Lacrimosa's dismissive reply- and then his immediate, icy focus on their surroundings. He frowned doubtfully at his boss. It was hard to argue with the man after his own experiences, but all the same he wasn't sure if he quite approved of this... obsession. But then, breaking into his thoughts like a ray of sun- Lord Darien Blackthorne arrived.
He grinned despite himself, hearing his pidove tsk from his shoulder and flutter off- perching instead on some jutting ribs. He ignored her.
"Lacrimosa said there was a story event here- he wanted me to come with," He responded, "I am glad you're here, though. If there are enough of us, I'm sure we'll at least be a little safer." At this he looked over the crowd, already breaking off into little groups. It may not be the best strategy to only stick near Sarthor who... honestly was not apt to actually help them when it came down to it. Alistair wouldn't leave the other man to fend for himself -not here- but a few more allies to make up for his boss's lack of altruism couldn't hurt.
There were plenty of players he didn't recognize, and hadn't seen yet. Events like these were probably as good of a time as any to make new friends and allies, if one wished. However, it was the familiar ones that got his attention. First was Kazuki, who was too sttriking to not notice- followed by Tuesday and... well, starlitlover, of course. Alistair blinked blandly at them. Kazuki and Tuesday were experienced players, and Alistair had liked them. The issue was having Ada anywhere near Sae. That felt like a disaster waiting to happen, so he needed to avoid it as long as possible.
He turned abruptly away from them, hoping they wouldn't notice him (despite his fiery red hair). "[b}Nevermind. Let's stick to this spot for a bit, [/b]" Words he immediately regretted as Dr. Bunya spoke up, and the eerie music seemed to swell as writhing, tinsel-like corruption squirmed in her hands. Alistair's stomach lurched at the sight of it. A sickening crunch followed from beside him, and Alistair slowly turned to look at the source of the sound. Sarthor was totally engrossed in his task, carving through bone, detritus, and remains with absolutely no remorse or concern. He seemed entirely focused, almost enthralled by the task, as though he were experiencing something different than the looming horror that everyone else seemed subject to. Alistair couldn't look away for a moment, an ominous premonition slithering through his thoughts- "< What an expression, Alistair! Is that horror, or adoration?>" The pidove crooned, and Alistair looked sharply at her. " That's enough. Keep an eye out, I don't like this." He kept the edge of fear from his voice fairly successfully, but the firm tone seemed to not concern the oft-malicious bird at all. She shook her wings out at him, a few ragged feathers scattering. He gave Sarthor an uncertain look, and then finally swung his pickaxe for the first time, breaking into the black earth to keep his mind from either of the impending disasters. [/blockquote]

But of course, the first thing to waltz past the giant ‘fuck off’ horse was starlitlover, and immediately the fires of hatred were lit and murderous intent settled where Kazuki had been mostly placated. It did not help when Tuesday tried to goad them further.
Perhaps life didn’t entirely hate him, however, because starlitlover quickly picked his poison latched onto Tuesday, and a third party—a familiar child called Rose Garden arrived, Kazuki reminded of little bugs and being smote by gods. All this ensured the two would be more than distracted enough for Kazuki to slip away.
<Are you sure you’re up for this?> Mudsdale hummed, shattering the rocks with her hooves. She moved at her usual slow pace, but was meticulous with where she kept the rubble, ensuring none of it would get in the way as they dug further down. The tar from her hooves and mane clumped them into manageable lumps.
“I’m fucking peachy.” Kazuki swung a pickaxe down, splitting a rotted femur in half, his fingers white from the force of his grip.
Mudsdale glanced over to the other humans, before shaking her head and continuing to work. <Try to keep the murder to a minimum. This place... it reeks.>
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’re wading through ancient dead and raw horror.”
Mudsdale shook her head again. <No. This pit reeks of bloodlust.> She sniffed. <And peppermint.>
Kazuki paused, hitting something. “Well, fuck. We’ll die in a candy cane cave-in. Move over here.”

He… might have fucked up. Approaching Nero was supposed to help the new player, but from his responses, it seemed all Saint had accomplished was making things awkward. The guy was already busy, and to be fair, there was no assurance that he even remembered the quest, or their brief interaction.
At least it seemed he had the hang of digging, and was even smiling when orioncayge had given him a thumbs up. Short-lived, though—maybe he didn’t like people seeing him smile?
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt. I’ll leave you to digging.” Saint nodded, pulling his collar up to cover his mouth. “I’ll be working nearby, though, so if you need anything, just holler.”
Gumball gave a curious honk as Saint turned around and walked to a better spot. At least this one was peaceful. He carefully pulled the pickaxe over his shoulder and began chipping away at the stone, pausing only when Bunya began her announcement and leaving them with the horrifying trivia that they were apparently digging through a layer of human remains.
Saint blanched, staring at his feet. “She’s just joking,” he mumbled, swinging faster. “Just joking.” The little white fragments in the ash were clearly just White Rabbit candies, and definitely did not resemble metatarsals.

“He, actually. And yes, Tibbles is not best pleased with his circumstances in life,” Rook chuckled, accepting the handshake, his own firm and well-practiced. “Rook. It’s a pleasure to meet someone who also appreciates a good excavation. Professionally?” The comment of a young man’s game brought to mind plenty of colleagues. This man was his own gold find, considering the target demographic of this game.
The two shared a laugh as they observed Dr. Bunya’s demonstration. “Whatever do you mean? Any self-respecting prospector would jump at the opportunity to sift through human bones.” A welcome change from blood-sucking.
Rook readied his pickaxe, pausing for a moment to look around the dismal pit as Helios pointed out the music. The ambience was undeniable. Nightmare at the Museum. “Really is too bad. If this game came out when I still dreamed of being a Mortician, it would be perfect.”
But it was not meant to be. He swung down, Tibbles squawking every time he made a big enough move to jostle him from his nest—which was every movement, unfortunately.
“I highly doubt Bunya had the equipment for drilling to this depth, not to mention the hostile environment itself would obliterate even state of the art draglines.” He paused, wiping ash from his mouth on the back of his hand. “A Pokémon, then. Look. That player, Laguna, has a massive snake made of ice. Scale that up a hundred-fold and you have a drill that can create Mponeng in a day.”
