"I think you're onto something," Big Bee said, tossing Taka a congratulatory steak. "Something feels off about this whole thing. We take ONE Sobble out of the ecosystem and suddenly there are roaming gangs of Fennekin? I'm no biologist, but that doesn't seem very logical."
"Uh, or biological," he added, grabbing the obvious pun before someone else did.
He scanned the crater, searching for signs of Fennekin. Fluffy ears, temporary housing, fiery displays, anything.
The name 'crater' was a bit of a misnomer. The heart of the zone was situated in the caldera of a dormant volcano. It should have been called calder instead. Crater implied a crat-ee, an impact-er, something to have struck the location and left the crate, as it were.
Instead, the vast, sizzling bowl was free of anything cratuitous, cretaceous, or crustacean.
"I'm hungry," Taka said through mouthfuls of steak.
"How? You're still eating!"
"Seafood."
"No! Eat your Perfect Steak and let's look for some more Fennekin. I'll check over here," Big Bee said to Lucky Guy and Yggy Br00ks . He pointed towards a stack of volcanic rocks piled around a burnt out tree. It looked like a makeshift fort, make by kids with too much spare time, or Pokemon with a creative flair.
The tree in the middle of the pile rose like a black tower from a set of castle ruins. At least that's how it would look to a one foot tall Fennelin. "This looks very suspicious."

Lucky's adventure took him throughout the nearby area wherein the two partners he was working with were within eyeshot. In so doing, he logged things he could find for later. A particularly strange set of patterned scorches along the ground, a set of small holes in the ground that were dug out by paws and a strange pebble. It seemed to be glitched halfway into the ground like an improper texture. How scandalous! Lucky would definitely be logging this in a bug report later. Yet there was nothing asides from the small signs of Pokémon instinct stood out to him. He tried other means to figure out whether anything was strange, yet the hidden seemed to elude him. Even as Lucky strode over to Big Bee 's side to check out what he was doing, he opened up the minimap of all things, just to see if he could find any inconspicuous holes in it that would imply OoB or a secret dungeon in the land. "Suspicious? What do you mean? Heck, what did you even find here..?"

While the others investigated for clues, Yggy was tugging at the glitchy pebble Lucky Guy had found, trying to yoink it out of the ground like a turnip. "...Hey, it's coming out!"
He pulled out the stone, failing to unlock a dungeon or anything interesting by doing so. "Aww," he said, scratching his head. He looked around, still holding the rock. "I wonder where all those Fennekyn went..."The inconsistency which had so struck Lucky and Big Bee hadn't resonated with Yggy at all. He was happy to hang out with his bro Big Bee and his lucky friend Lucky, but he just didn't see the big deal. It was like asking why there were so many pigeons or mosquitoes in real life. Either they were drawn to people or there were just a lot based on the weather or something. Wasn't that normal? "I've never caught a Sobble!" Yggy said to Big Bee, missing the point. "...What are you guys looking at?" He followed the other two trainers' line of sight and finally noticed the twisted black tree in the rocks. "Oh heck yeah, that must be their den! Let's go inside!"Never one to hesitate, Yggy flopped down on his belly, army-crawling forward towards the rock pile. He couldn't see an entrance, but he figured there had to be one. Right? "Y'know, they say cats can fit anywhere they can get their whiskers! I bet the Fennekyn are kinda like that," he said, muffled. "Or bats! There used to be some nesting at my house. They can squeeze in anywhere! My cat caught one and brought it inside and I caught it in an old shoe under the kitty litter scooper, but it actually squeezed through the like, slats in the scooper. It almost got me!" He craned his head, finding a crack in the stone that maybe a limber Fennekin could wriggle through. " Yep! I bet we can get inside if we move this rock," he said, scooting back on his hands and knees. "Anyone have Strength?"

"Oh wow, uh, right through the scoop?" Big Bee said, laughing at the mental image, only instead of a bat squeezing through the cheap plastic it was Yggy. If there were any Fennekyn still in the rock fort they would be seeing something similar right about now.
"No Strength, but Taka can help you out. Go Taka! Help Yggy get in deeper!"
Taka took one look at the crawling youth and blasted him with a wave of compressed water. Rocks rumbled as the high-pressure spray pushed dirt and rubble out of the way, carrying Yggy further into the fort.
"YOU JUST SAY WHEN!" Big Bee called above the sound of the blasting spray.

"AUUUUGHBLUBLUBLUBLU--"Yelling and bubbling came from the rock as Yggy slipped head-first down the now-exposed tunnel, which had become a waterslide. Pieces of rock debris and slurry flew in all directions from the mouth of the hole as his cool Running Shoes disappeared down the passage as if being swallowed by some enormous beast. If there were any Fennekin waiting at the bottom, they surely scattered as the sound of rushing water preceded his arrival. Groaning, his voice echoing around the underground cavern, Yggy combed grit and gravel off of his tongue and sat up. "I'm okay!" was the first thing he called. I can't see anything... wish I had a Charmander or something to light the way. Were there any Pokemon moves that just like, passively let off light? "But it's like, super dark down here."Still, even without light, his HUD was indicating different things in this chamber. An exclamation point marker had appeared overlaying something in front of him, maybe 30 feet away. It didn't seem dangerous. Just... unusual. "Hey guys, there's something weird down here!"QUEST PROMPT:[Prompt]K4|M1mDW1d100As Yggy crept through the dark towards the quest marker, there was a faint slither and pop. Something rattled on the ground, bouncing off of dry pebbles and rolling across the uneven ground. It plunged into a crevice with a final, decisive ping! Huh? Did I drop something?Within the cavern, the ground began to shake. 1d100

An ominous trembling roiled beneath the steps of the three men within the crater's silt. The bean began to work and work beyond the sight of what the two could see. Before the eyes of the three a single sprout peacefully grew with neither water nor light, a testament to the magic within the bean. It was a simple warning of what was about to come afterwards. A few moments passed and nothing came. It was clear that, contrary to what comedic timing would dictate, the plant was not about to skyrocket into the air and become a giant beanstalk that pierced the very heavens itself, nor would it lead to some strange and fantastical cloud dominion. What was the point of any of this, then? Some magic this bean had. Lucky himself began to complain, "What a load of help that's been to the old nerves," before sharply being cut off by the event of something entirely different happening to the fortress. While the plant itself did not grow large, the magic appeared to all be in how the roots themselves grew. The bean was growing-and it was growing down. The ground began to split and crack, giving Yggy Br00ks and his friends precious few moments to scramble back and away from the once small scenery of the Fennekin-sized fortress as the ground itself began to give way. Roots twisted into spiraling and jagged diagonal towers of the underground world, creating a jagged network of support structures that could roughly be called a traversable path. Where it traversed was anyone's guess-the ever darkening pit below grew further and further from the sight of man, all the way till the rumbling of the earth itself stopped. All that remained was a bottomless hole of roots and crumbling earth, singed and cracked from the sheer temperatures beneath the top layer of the world... That, and the curious mystery of what could possibly lie within such a strange place.

As the shaking from the bean's titanic growth settled down, Big Bee felt his stomach twist with worry. "Little Y? You okay down there man?" he called into the hole. "You good?" he asked, but after one second without a reply from his little bro he forged ahead. "I'm gonna check on him," he said, forcing his adult body into the teen-sized crawlspace.
He stopped, shoulders stuck on the rock walls. "Oh goddami- LITTLE Y!" he shouted, hoping the echoes would carry his worried voice deeper. His stomach churned, his heart thudded against the rock, and all he could picture was the little blond teen falling into darkness down some fissure. "You all good man?!" He wriggled forward, smacking and grazing his shoulders as he squeezed through into the open area beyond.
And what an area.
He emerged on a rocky ledge, and clung tight to the outcropping as the ground beyond opened into an abyss. Tangled roots stretched between the walls of the lava tube, making twisting, botanical beams that crisscrossed as far down as he could see. Which wasn't far. The shaft faded into darkness long before it reached any sort of ground.
Big Bee opened his Settings and turned the brightness way up, so that the greys became white and black became a vast array of distinguishable shades. He peered over the edge, and this time spotted several crags, caves, and passageways leading from the shaft, each of them draped in darkness. He still couldn't see bottom.
"You here Yggy Br00ks?" he called once more, but his voice was swallowed by the vastness of the shaft.

Yggy woke up. It's cool that seriously nothing happens when you die in this game, he thought, sitting up and rubbing his eyes as the words YOU WHITED OUT! finished fading from his vision. But what the heck killed me?Falling rocks? Giant roots? Plunging into an infinite crevice into the core of the earth? At least THE RIVAL hadn't been down there this time, that had been seriously wack when he and manish had fallen through the world the last time. Yggy spawned back into the Crater after Big Bee had already plunged into the hole looking for him. The blonde teen appeared at Lucky Guy's elbow, blinking owlishly and squinting against the sudden daylight. "Man, something crazy happened in there!" he said, rubbing the back of his head. Ever since he'd fallen down and bonked the back of his head one time he'd had his Pain settings turned way down, but even so, something still hurt. "Where'd Big Bee go? Aw, man..."He ran forward to shout down the passage. "Hey, I'm back out here! Something instakilled me in there, be careful bro!"That said, Yggy flopped down on his tummy again and began to wiggle back into the crevice. It was no use wondering where his courage came from. He was as cheerful as ever. "C'mon, Lucky! I wanna see what killed me. I bet it's cool."By the time he slid down again, landing next to Big Bee with a shower of Kindler sparks, the entire cavern had been transformed. That didn't make it any easier for him to see. Lacking Big Bee's game hack foresight, Yggy squinted in the darkness. "Hang on, I'm sure I got this. Go, Fennekyn!" Yggy tossed out one of the foxes they'd just caught from the Swarm. "Quick, uh, burn... this!" The teen began to wrench at a nearby root, trying to break it off so the fox could use it as a makeshift torch. Below, the pillars of massive roots stirred and shuddered, groaning like a city before an earthquake. Fennekin tucked his tail behind his legs and whined anxiously. Yggy dropped the root, eyes widening. "Oops. Okay, uh, never mind! Y'know what, I have a better idea. I got this magic bean from a like, bean-salesman. I'll plant it and see if it lights this place up!"Yggy began to search his pockets for his magic bean. His face crumpled. "Huh? It's gone!"

"Yeah, Yggy, I'm sure you've got those magic beans all under wraps. Every one of 'em. What's say we take a look before this gets any worse?" Lucky asks as he, too had arrived in the cave at this point. He wasn't intending on waiting for an answer from them to take a look himself. He took steps into the dark unknown nigh immediately, walking into the well of darkness and roots. He had no fear to spare this exploration.
Nor did he need any. His footsteps themselves were supported by the roots of the grand pillar that made up the cavern. Lucky sure did need to take it slow, but that was all he needed. A careful slide of the foot forward would tell him all he needed to know on whether the path was safe, whether that be from the root already there for him or the growing tendrils that rose to support him should he move his foot to the sky.
It was hardly fair at all, being a gardener in this place. "I'm making a new path, you two! Find a way to light and follow when you can!" The daredevil in question called up to the entrance without a care in the world to the rumbling of the cavern.
