All right. He had a Water-type and a Fire-type... but no Grass-type or Electric-type.
Adrien pulled up his UI, but it looked like after the Tower run, he still had a little bit of time to kill before his stream, so he figured it would be worthwhile to look to fill out his team a little more. (Although, he supposed, to be fair, it was kind of his own fault for why he didn't have an Electric-type. After all, he'd been the one to pass over Shinx in favor of his signature Skitty. But he'd had to, what with how little recognition he'd gotten so far.) Thoughtfully, he browsed through his options with a frown.
Nothing really had both options - but after a moment of thought, he'd made his choice, tapping on the element-
Only for nothing to happen. He blinked, staring dumbly at the display as his tail swished, but when he tapped it a couple more times, he still didn't see the distortion around him.
... Well crap. It looked like skipping that first quest really had messed with the game, huh. His ears flattening back against his head, he frowned, before sighing and tapping the button to increase his HP again and allowing himself to be teleported back to the Surge Steppes.
ooc: look, i'm not including the skitty since he doesn't have it yet. chronologically, this thread is just set after his tower thread, hence why it's mentioned even if i'm not including it. (disclaimer included for casual readers who pop in a "hey wait a minute" and also for me, so i can't forget

Heaving in a deep breath and letting it out again, Adrien considered the Pokeballs at his belt before he decided to simply wade into the swaying grass around him. Exochomper had been doing most of the battling so far, and that was fine, but he'd like to get a little more power on his Ponyta if he could. Wildfyre would need the boost if he was going to keep going forward, especially if he was going to try to cover for his Totodile's weak points, and that meant battling to level up. He'd just need to see exactly what it was he was facing off against first before he picked which of his team he wanted to work on this time.
He heard a Rufflet's cry and turned about, one ear twitching, only to catch sight of it flying too far off to even target with his UI. (Huh. He wondered if Nintendo was planning on doing a version a Pokemon Snap with this program - it would be a fairly interesting rework of the game, all things considered.) Considering it just as good a direction as any, he started winding his way through the grass in that direction, to see what popped out at him before he got there.

Out of all the things he expected to see pop out at him, the very side of a nearby cliff face prying itself out of the rock with a low groan was decidedly not one of them. The fur of his tail puffing up as he skittered back a few steps instinctively, ears flattened against his skull and eyes bright and wide, he found his heart racing as his first instinct was to run.
But he steeled himself, forcing himself to stand his ground. It was just a game. It couldn't hurt him. And besides, it looked like it was made of metal, based on how it gleaned in the sunlight, so... it was probably a Steel-type. Perfect for training his Ponyta on. Come on, Adri, you can do this. Remember, you're a lone wolf right now.
"Wildfyre! Go!" he urged, tossing his Pokeball and letting it burst forward to reveal the Ponyta who snorted, pawing at the ground and pausing when she caught sight of the Duraludon. She seemed just as bewildered to be seeing such a large threat before she snorted, little plumes of fire flaring from her nostrils, and rushed forward with a Flame Charge before her Trainer could even give her a command.
ooc: wtf is this luck lol i just wanted some nidoran-

The Duraludon was faster than it seemed, veering itself out of the way of the Ponyta's charge forward at the last moment, so that only the edges of her flames caught its body. She let out a loud cry as she barreled forward, slamming into the wall it had pulled itself out of and stumbling back. "Wildfyre!" Adrien cried, but she just shook herself out, mane flaring back to life again.
She pawed at the ground for a moment before darting forwards again in another Flame Charge, as though she were the Tauros they'd recently caught rather than a simple Ponyta.
ooc: oh no okay that's the luck lol. god-like spawn roll, terrible damage roll, i see where this is going, dice-

And Wildfyre would underestimate her opponent's speed again as it lumbered out of the way - not quite as quickly as before, true, but still quick enough to avoid the brunt of the fire burning from her charge. "Slow down, Wildfyre!" Adrien called as she stumbled, hoof getting caught in a hole for a moment before she could pry herself free with a snort. "You're just-"
But she was already gone, darting forward for a third Flame Charge, just as hot-heated as her name implied.

"-going to keep missing," he sighed loudly as she did exactly that, the Duraludon repeating the exact same manuver it had before to avoid the Ponyta's flames.
Honestly, at this rate, the other Pokemon wasn't even going to have to attack to win the battle, and Adrien huffed, his tail flicking behind him irritably at the thought. "Focus, Wildfyre, focus!" he called out. "Use an Ember this time, if it's just going to keep dodging you!"

For a long moment, he almost thought she was going to listen to him, but finally, just when he was starting to reach for her Pokeball, the Ponyta snorted and kicked up a bit of the flaming grass she had set ablaze during her earlier charges.
And to great effect, it turned out, as the wild Pokemon turned around only to blunder directly into the flames, crying out as it made impact with its body and- oh yeah. That was definitely a steel type, judging by how some of the metal was melting from the impact. "Do it again!" he called, excited by the visible progress in the battle, and she snorted, shooting him a look but obeying nonetheless, seeing as how his command had made a clear difference in the fight.

The Duraludon was prepared this time, when the flaming grasses were flung its way, and it lumbered out of the way as best it could - but not good enough, as even the edges of the grasses that nicked the outer side of the Steel-type Pokemon were enough to make it cry out, sporting another burn on its side. "Give it another Ember!" the Trainer instructed. "After that, you'll probably have slowed it down to actually hit it!"
<Ta!> Wildfyre snorted and kicked up another wave of grasses, as instructed, flinging them up into the air in a mockery of a smokescreen, to give herself a bit of cover.

Except that, unfortunately for her, the Duradulon really had grown wise to the trick - and was more than angry enough at this point to fight back. It thrust itself through the burning grass, ignoring the pain of the fire landing on it, to claw at the Ponyta's head just as she was lowering it down in preparation of charging forward. She cried out sharply, but even so, she still carried through with the movement.
The remaining bits of embered grass bounced harmlessly off her fur, repelled by her own fire, as she charged forwards through the flames, like a nightmare pulled directly from the depths of the bowels of the earth. Her own fires flared up around her, accenting the effect, as she cried out and threw herself directly at the Steel-type in a Flame Charge.

"Man, I really wish I had a screenshot command for this," Adrien murmured as he watched his Pokemon burst through into that powerful Flame Charge - and it really was powerful, as she slammed directly into the other Pokemon to a loud sizzle of metal turning molten around her, burning the skin underneath.
But her attack didn't come without a price. It put her directly in range of those powerful arms, and the Duradulon roared as it slammed them into her, claws glinting with a light that-
Oh. Oh, it was a Dragon type. Huh.
Wincing as he heard Wildfyre scream out as she darted back, his ears flattening against his skull, he reconsidered his approach. "Use a Leer, then another Ember! Keep your distance!"
<Ta,> she agreed, lifting her head to shoot her opponent a nasty look before she breathed out another low burst of flames into the grasses around the Duradulon.

Except that the Duradulon really had been learning. It darted out of the way of the burning grasses in a rush forwards, slamming into Wildfyre and sending her skidding backwards in the dirt - but amazingly, she held her ground, digging her hooves in as though she were a Tauros instead of a little Ponyta, glaring back at her opponent with all the strength and fire she could muster.
And then, before Adrien could react, she was shooting out another burst of flames in an Ember - her own vicious payback for the damage it had left on her with its charge.

Almost as soon as he'd managed to heal Wildfyre back up again, he tapped through the prompts to warp back to The Surge Steppes - after all, sure, he already knew that warping to heal didn't cause the Pokemon to despawn, but he didn't know if there was some kind of time limit or anything on that, so he wasn't particularly eager to push that.
No harm, no foul. When he let Wildfyre back out of her Pokeball, she snorted and pawed at the ground, seemingly none the worse for wear for her experience. If anything, she had that same foul look in her eyes from earlier - if it wasn't a Leer, Adrien was pretty sure he didn't know what one was - before she darted forwards in another Flame Charge, ready to repay her opponent for the earlier knockout.

She charged wide again. Because of course she charged wide again. Adrien sighed and shook his head as he watched her wheel wide, though she thankfully didn't seem to hurt from the exchange, like two knights charging at each other in a joust - and she managed to stop herself short before she slammed into the wall again, which was honestly an improvement.
"Give it another go!" he encouraged, deciding to roll with it. If she thought she could do more damage by charging at the Duraludon like that, who was he to argue? "Flame Charge!"

Another rush, coming together before parting again, two jousters leaving their wounds on each other-
But like the previous charges before, the Duraludon grew wise to the tactic and used it against the Ponyta, planting itself and raking its claws down her side again. She cried out even as she rounded out the charge, her flanks heaving and blood showing from the sides, even if it didn't drip down from that - too graphic, apparently, for a Pokemon game.
"Let's try another Ember this time!" he instructed, to her incredulous snort. "C'mon, you made progress with that!
The Ponyta snorted, but she supposed he did have a point, so with a deep breath in, she then breathed out a flurry of embers back into the grasses.

The wind shifted as Wildfyre breathed out the sparks, seeing her snort as they shot back towards her - thankfully bouncing harmlessly off her pelt, though Adrien visibly winced and shrunk behind her with his tail darting close to his legs and ears flickering back. Shaking herself out from the little fires, she cantered a few steps to the side, where the wind was better in her favor, before she blew out another string of Embers towards the Steel-type.
"Hey, hey, be careful!" Adrien yelped, hurriedly stepping back away from her. "Not all of us are fireproof you know!"
