He could only whistle out of annoyance—why was the Tower of Birds not open yet?!
But no matter, no biggie… should he idle around long enough here, the place would open. Eventually. It had to at some point, right?
Right?
“Well, here goes nothing, then,” he would psych himself up by squaring his shoulders and preparing himself.
For one thing—there was only really one Pokémon he was after—because it evolved into a part-Dragon type, so he figured, why not try to get his hands on one as soon as feasibly possible?
So here he was.

The first thing that would come screaming down was a Pidgey that looked really hungry and intent on eating the poor—hey, what the fuck?
“Whoa there,” he would remark; looking over to his Greninja—who let out a quiet little nod before letting loose with a barrage of Water Shuriken to get the party started.
Little did he know he was going to be walking straight into a trap, because holy shit that incoming flock of wild bird Pokémon looked rather rabid hungry…
Well, surely he could do his part and keep all the larvae here safe, right?

Thankfully, the first ‘invader’ had been repelled without further incident, only to be followed up by a—
“Are you kidding me?” he would sigh out of exasperation as this time, a Pidgeotto of all things would come in screaming after the Pidgey from earlier; and boy did those claws look highly dangerous on the wrong end of it!
‘Not today!’ the Greninja would huff, before suddenly stopping on a dime and then using Aerial Ace to catch it off-guard; an attempt to repel it back because…
Aww, the Caterpie from before was actually waiting for a few friends to come by, and now they’d arrived!
Ain’t that a cute sight to see?
And boy did that Pidgeotto look hungry enough to gobble up the poor Caterpies!

The next Pidgeotto made to dive for the bugs. And this time it was just fast enough to be able to do some damage before Altair’s Greninja could react. It would appear like this challenge was over before it even got anywhere.
”Giyun!”
”Right-o, Boss!”
The bird squawked in surprise and panic as a hulking tower of steel and scale landed nearby from being called out to battle. The Duraludon answered the bird’s cry with a powerful Breaking Swipe of his tail, sending it tumbling away and out of the Tower.
Alicia smirked as she put a hand on her hip, waving to the other player and his Greninja. ”Looked like you were in a pinch there. Mind if I muscle in on this?”
Mentally, she quickly chastised herself on her word choice. That had to sound so cheesy, didn’t it? Maybe if she could keep her expression straight she could take attention from how cringe-y she felt.
They had some birds in the air and metaphorical stones in hand after all.

The birds were more cautious now. Before when it was just Altair there was a slight chance that they could eventually overwhelm him with sheer numbers. But an allied newcomer tipped the odds in his favor now. But the prompt that came up for the next segment… might have been an issue normally.
”Flock’s still pretty thick… Tikani?” Alicia mused, tossing her starter out into the area. Giyun took a step back to almost fade into the background as the Bayleef appeared and took center stage.
”I’ll get them all nice and tangled.” The leaf dinosaur quipped with a grin. She whipped her head leaf around, flinging seeds at a few of the birds that strayed a little too close. Several of them let out piercing cries as the seeds made contact and erupted with their characteristic speed, wrapping the draining vines around their bodies enough that they could no longer fly straight.
Alicia nodded as a number of them hit the floor. More were still coming, of course, but she had confidence that the two of them could handle just about anything that could come their way.

“Hey—Alicia, right?” he would confirm; hard to forget a face with a big-ass Dragon Pokémon like that! Although, the draconids he wanted to acquire were more… intersecting with the Flying type. Mostly.
“Yeah, sure, I could use a hand—some of these birds are just outright nasty,” he would remark before this time, a flock of hungry Fearow that had spotted the group of Caterpie who were still dawdling not too far away were coming in, and fast!
‘I’ll take care of—’
He could only blink in surprise as this time, both him and the Greninja watched as the female Nidoran decided to make an appearance from out of nowhere; diving for the nearest rock and then using Double Kick on the biggest one she set her eyes on—
An attempt to try to swat the flock of wild Fearow coming down fast!
“Yeesh, and I wonder why the Tower of Birds isn’t open yet. I would definitely want to go poking around in that tower when it does open, though,” he added with a laugh.

”That’s me~.” Alicia chimed with a grin. It was working! People were actually remembering her from time to time! Whether it was because of her choice of avatar design or the big dragon at her side, she didn’t particularly care. Someone actually recognized her after a time apart…
Helen may have been so unremarkable as to fade from memory far too quickly. But Alicia was, for whatever reason, memorable as can be.
”Boss? Birds?” Giyun chimed with a quirked eyebrow. Alicia squeaked in response and shook her head, looking at the situation again.
”Right, right, Tikani, another wave of Leech Seeds if you will?” The Gardener mused with a flush of embarrassment. How undignified to get lost in her own head even for a moment…
Tikani let out a wordless chuckle and flung another set of seeds at the wave of Fearow that Altair’s Nidoran had disoriented with a well placed rock. The birds let out shrieks as they were entangled and drained, crashing to the ground again.
”I imagine both of the towers have cooldowns. As well as any others that open up. Probably a capacity issue? Can only run so many rooms concurrently? By the way, what Pokemon were you planning on getting from this?” Alicia answered, posing her own curious question in the same breath.

“Your guess is as good as mine,” he would tilt his head to one side; as this time the female Nidoran would come in screaming with the Bite attack; gnashing those jaws and baring the fangs at the incoming birds; even if it pained him so much to drive them away.
“To be fair, if and when the tower of Birds opens up I’m going to be there most of the time… but then again it depends on whatever Pokémon come out of it when it does open,” he mused, unable to resist the brief peal of laughter that escaped him.
“Although a tower of Dragons would be cool too,” he added with a look of bemusement on his face.
As for what Pokémon he wanted out of this entire mess?
“You’re not going to believe it, but Applin,” he mused.
Wonder if she would understand why it was that one, out of all the options that existed in here.

”I would be surprised if dragons got their own little instance area like this. The majority of them are kind of overwhelming.” Alicia mused with a hum. As the next prompt popped up, she smirked. ”Metal Sound, give ‘em something to scream over.”
Giyun responded, opening his maw and uttering a grating roar and sending ripples through the air. As the noise reached the avian raiders, several were sent packing with pained shrieks and squawks.
”Applin, huh?” Alicia mused, before shrugging. ”If I remember what I read on the ‘net correctly, isn’t that a Grass/Dragon type? Which makes it a bit of a stand out regarding a tower based mostly around Bug types…”
Then again, Onix was here as well and was a much more immediately imposing beast. Maybe her read was wrong…

The moment the Metal Sound rippled through the space, he bit his teeth and cringed—it sounded more like nails scraping across a chalkboard more than anything, if he was being honest.
“Oof, that sounds much more… terrifying than how the original games depict it,” he would grimace; before some of the other incoming avians would be repelled and dissuaded from coming forward—yet there were still more of them coming!
“Are you kidding me,” he would sigh—quickly swapping out his Nidoran-F for a Pidove.
“Ironic, I know, but he has just the move to repel those away,” and with that the tiny little Pidove would then let loose with an Air Slash from its mighty little wings!
As for why Applin?
“Yeah, that’s pretty much why I’m after it. Though. How can an apple become a Pokémon in the first place, isn’t that strange… or is there something else to it?” he would quietly cackle.

”Yeah, that was… sharper than I gave it credit for.” Alicia agreed, wincing over the Metal Sound. She was going to be more judicious with that one later on.
She did smile on seeing the Pidove. ”Fight fire with fire is absolutely a valid tactic here. It’s not like Normal and Flying resist themselves.”
But they were finally seeing the end of the road. Only a handful of those pesky birds were left, and Alicia flashed a smirk.
”End it with a bang, Giyun. Breaking Swipe.”
”Come and get it ya bird-brains!”
Just like she started her contribution to this challenge, she ended it with her best Pokemon taking a stance between the last few birds and their intended prey. As desperation overcomes them and they rush the dragon, Giyun roared in challenge and swung his tail, swiping them with such force that they were flung from the tower’s confines.
”How can a pile of sludge become a Pokemon? Or a random ball? Or an ice cream cone?” Alicia asked in return when Altair wondered about an apple Pokemon. Just as the game systems were getting ready to congratulate them.
…
At this rate she was going to need that presumable Dragon type Base Class to unlock soon…

Thankfully it was just a horde of perpetually hungry wild Pidgey that were soaring above their heads—and now that they’d cleared the first obstacle; they’d gotten their hands on an Applin.
“Well, one of each for the both of us, right? Nothing too shabby,” he would nod as this time, he would pop out a Shellos—
While he was internally screaming that he wasn’t able to find a Piplup when he’d visited the Beta Island coastline, he hoped that there would be a way to correct this fatal oversight somewhere down the line…
And the Shellos would start sniping the closest Pidgey out of mid-air with a well-timed Water Gun attack!

Alicia had actually been a little concerned when the next prompt came up. She wasn’t going to be able to fill that one, and there was another Pokemon she had wanted from this. And she could hardly ask-
And that was a Shellos that had just appeared at Altair’s side and started headshot’ing additional birds. Looks like she wasn’t going to have to come back later, it seems!
”Something else you’re looking for?” Alicia asked with a smile, while mentally wishing Altair said ‘an Onix’. But the next prompt made her blink.
”… Tikani?” she address her first partner, smiling. ”Razor Leaf, please, but… just a warning shot.”
”… Pardon?” the Bayleef intoned, confused.
”Deliberately miss.” Alicia clarified.
”Uh… okay…” Tikani finished with a shrug. Then she flicked her head leaf around, sending a flurry of leaves flying towards a set of Pidgey, spooking them with metaphorical buzzcuts.

Ahh, the idiosyncracies of how Pokémon were made. Strange shit abound again, as always.
Thankfully, they would come to the rescue with a move that spooked the wild Pidgey; but apparently that wasn’t going to be enough!
Withdrawing the Shellos, he would swap the dual-type out for Qu the Pidove once more; who would screech in disapproval at the incoming flock of birds and then unleash mass mayhem in the form of an Air Slash attack!
