After that nightmare of a cat-hunt, he finally decided to make the most out of the Beta Island Ticket that he’d purchased back then; now sitting pretty in his inventory and—
He blinked. Honest to goodness, he had to blink.
Never had he been at a place like this—well, in the real world at least! Back in Eorzea the only time that he and Sidra would hit the ‘beaches’ was when they went to their FC’s house at one of the summery locations… and that was a hard-fought auction, geez.
(Roulette auctions sucked!)
Anyway, now that he was out here—
He was accompanied this time by his tiny little Pidove, who wouldn’t stop flying in circles around his head.
“Hey, hey, you’ve got the zoomies.”
‘The what?’
“Excess energy!”

‘What do you mean excess energy? I just like flying!’
“Oh, shit, don’t tell me you’re going to be like Kyouya, huh?”
‘Who, that temperamental idiot bird? I’ll have you know, I’m much more reliable than he is!’
“Ooh, feuding already?” he couldn’t help but crack.
‘I mean, you did tell everyone about what happened in that… that place you explored right?’
“Fair.”
The two continued walking along the beach, wondering what they were going to stumble upon today. He could only hope and pray that they could find something good today!

Sometimes it was a bane to be ‘fully’ human; what with them not being able to take on avian characteristics (yet) like improved eyesight.
The Totodile that wandered into range would growl and snap at them—much as he wanted to catch them now, he had to hold back.
‘What? Not getting it?’
“Not yet… I’m out here for a particular one.”
‘Don’t tell me it’s an Oshawott?’
“That would be nice, but maybe down the road. I’m looking for something else.”
‘But you already have a Greninja, right?’
“That I do.”
‘What’re you looking for, then?’
“You’ll see.”

‘Oh, you’re going to try and get all the Wter-types?’
“Well… that would ideally be the plan. Problem is, there’s not enough storage space for everyone, so. I have to be really careful with what I pick.”
‘But isn’t that going to be a problem?’
“I know,” he would sigh as the Totodile ran off. “I want to petition for more storage space, because look—specializing in Water, Flying, and Dragon-types is going to be a major pain in the ass!”
‘And why’s that?’
“Okay, a few things. Water and Flying, are apparently the most numerous kind of Pokémon types that exist out here.”
‘You know what, fair.’
It wouldn’t take them too long to notice a… what in the world was that? There was something flying not too far away; and it was a…
“Wait. Why are there toucans out here?!”
‘Because we’re on a tropical island!’
Little did he know that he’d spotted a Toucannon out in the wild for the very first time…

This time, something else would come shooting out from a nearby bush, shell shining so brightly it almost blinded both him and the Pidove for a few moments.
‘I’ll take care of this one!’ and off the Pidove flew, shooing the Squirtle away; while he was blinking to get the retinal burn out of his eyeballs. Yikes, that shell was incredibly well-polished! How blinding!
In no time flat the two would be alone again…

“How’d it go?”
‘Too noisy!’ the Pidove would exclaim, shaking their head once they’d returned from chasing the Squirtle off.
‘Apparently they were trying to sell something, but I kept screeching that I wasn’t interested!’
“What, are you for real?!” he would exclaim while the Pidove nodded.
“Yikes. Disaster averted, in any case,” he would chuckle as they continued their walk down the shoreline.

The next encounter—which would be a strange looking, almost crying Water-type, would eventually be chased away by the Pidove in no time flat.
‘Too much of a crybaby!’ he would hear the avian Pokémon remark.
“What made you say?”
‘They looked like they were ready to bawl their eyes out!’
“Maybe they were terrified?”
‘I have no idea!’
He would sigh, before pinching the bridge of his nose and looking down the sandy stretch of beach. Would they be able to find what they were looking for this time?

It didn’t take too long before the ‘salesman Squirtle’ would return—did it bring friends?
From the looks of it: yes.
‘Oh no, not you again!’
“Wait, is this the one from earlier?”
‘Yes! I’m sure of it! And this time they’re not alone!’
He then watched as the Pidove flew off from his shoulder, screeching all manner of—well, he didn’t want to know—and watched the scene unfold with bemusement on his features…
Hopefully this time the Squirtle would get the hint and leave them alone!

After the Squirtle had left with their companion Water-types, well…
‘Hopefully they don’t come back in a group and start pestering us. That would be a mess to deal with.’
“…for once you’re right,” he would nod in agreement as the Pidove would take off and fly slightly ahead of him this time.
‘Dealing with one is bad enough. But dealing with like, four, five of the same species? Yeah no.’
“Can see why, too many targets to hit,” he would joke with the Pidove, who would turn around and give him a bombastic ‘side eye’, before breaking out into snickering laughter.

Huh. Were they walking back down the same stretch they came by earlier?
He blinked—he was pretty sure they were going in a random line down the beach, not looping over in the same spot twice… for one thing, he’d have noticed if he passed the same bare-branch coconut tree from earlier.
“Again?”
‘Unfortunately. Let me take care of this.’
At least the Pidove had initiative; which was good going for him. In no time flat the Totodile would be sent packing.
‘And for the record, no, we’re not in a massively glitched area. It just so happened that they love chasing us down.’

The sand was starting to feel a little too warm for him; and he hoped to be able to get out of range soon.
With the way things were going, he hoped that they hadn’t stumbled into some kind of game-breaking glitch, one way or antother…

He’d noticed something—while his Greninja was the quiet, pragmatic sort of individual, Qu the Pidove on the other hand had… well, for lack of a better word the Pidove had no filter at all.
Well, going off the most recent interaction so far!
He idly wondered how his Nidoran-F would be like, all things considered. But then again, they had to find the damned thing they were looking for…
‘Again?!’
“What?”
‘It’s not the Salesman, it’s the alligator! I’ll take care of this.’
And off the Pidove flew.
Yeah, he was definitely assertive, that was for certain.

He’d walked on some distance ahead before he heard the fluttering of wings following him.
“How was it?”
‘Nothing too hard.’
“Well, that’s a relief.”
The two would continue their beach stroll—discussing a myriad of strange things between them.
(Although it was just mostly Qu sniping him about his non-existent Murkrow’s feet around his eyes.)
Assertive and sassy, he would not to himself as they continued their search.

“West? I forgot, the two sides of Sinnoh are easy to mix up!”
‘You’re excused,’ the Pidove would tease, to which he would roll his eyes.
(Honestly, they were getting really close; just that they needed a certain bird so they could get out of here!)
They would then leave the Shellos alone as they continued their journey.

He was wondering if this search was going to take as long as the other time that he and Josh Devlin had camped out at the beginner’s grounds for that stupid cat—

‘The one where it took you almost half a day to find a Pidove!’
“Oh, don’t get me started,” he would grumble back as he waved his hands dismissively; he didn’t want to think too hard on that. It was… the thought of that was just absolutely terrifying if he was going to be honest.
