STORY QUEST: MODERN REVIVAL #fossils #palenyantology #nyanethicalscience Dr. Bunya, previously a cute twenty-something year old academic, is now a figure cut from writhing darkness. The shadowy miasma of Dr. Bunya's new form swirls around her like a stain, infecting the very air of the lab.
"Great nyews everynyan! The experimyent was a complete success!" Bunya says, as she spins in her chair. Darkness spills over the sides of her computer chair like chilled ink, taking long seconds to stretch down to the linoleum. "Nyat only did we unearth some nyew fossils," she continues, "but I shed my corporenyal form! Just look!" There is a soft whump as Bunya disappears from her chair. She reappears on the other side of the lab beside an abomination of engineering.
The homemade Fossil Revival Machine glows and beeps in all the wrong places. Fire alarms and Christmas lights adorn the chassis of what is unmistakably a Husqvarna YTH18542 lawnmower. Bunya punches in the activation sequence on the Nokia phone front panel, and a battery of drone propellers whir to life on the sides. The lawnmower innards churn, making the whole construction jitter unsteadily on its two-dozen tricycle wheels.
Giggling with dark delight, Bunya waits for the machine to spin up to full power. When the Christmas lights turn all green she pulls open the top of the machine. She hefts her bag of fossils fresh from the dig-site and tries to cram in a huge bone sphere that's far too big. "Nyan of a bitch!" she exclaims, giving up and settling for what looks like a human femur. She slams the lid shut. "Watch this!"
The machine chugs like a dishwasher full of custard. The lights in the lab dim as power is rerouted, and a flash of black lightning sizzles around the rim. Suddenly, there is a ding! and the lid pops open. Out climbs a young man, screaming and disoriented.
"Nyalright, who's nyext!"

Sae- Um, Lord Blackthorne had filed in to Bunya's lab with everyone else. It was- odd. An event had never ended like that before, and the office was in a bit of chaos- Apparently some data had been lost. Reports had come in of some players losing items- Sae figured from what he could glean that it was all tied to Bunya's event. Some players just... respawned and had nothing to show for it.
Maybe he was lucky, then. Blackthorne pulled up his ui, tabbing to his inventory. There was a Spell Tag, which he had certainly never picked up, and an Armor Fossil. Which he had.... also not picked up. Had quest rewards been scrambled? Was there a player out there with things he had gained? Someone probably quite happy to have an Arctozolt, which... well, they weren't his favorite.
But, also, neither were Shieldon. He pulled the fossil out, looking at it, and paused to look around the room. A bunch of other players were there... including one holding a Plume Fossil.
Sae just stared at him. Alistair... loved Archen. Adored him. He liked a lot of bird pokemon, of course, but Archen was special. And he'd said in texts that he was looking for one. And one was... right there. Sae swallowed. He- He could do this. He could be brave.
Summoning his courage, he walked over to Big Bee, taking a breath and smiling. "Excuse me- I have to say, I don't quite think that suits you." Blackthorne said, eyes flicking to the kind of small Plume Fossil. "Perhaps... something a bit tankier would be better?" He mused, holding up the curved edge of the Armor Fossil.

"It doesn't?" Big Bee asked, tilting his head to the side in an accidental imitation of an ancient Archen. He looked down at the perfectly fossilized feather. "I guess you're right, but since it's what I got from the event I was just going to hang on to it."
Bee had been kicked from the event like everyone else. Neither his ultra-fast internet nor having a hardline to the servers had saved him from the crash. They'd just ensured that he'd seen the error message with 0 latency.
"I could trade it, sure!" he said, lighting up as Lord Darien Blackthorne offered the Armor Fossil. "I'm am a bit of a tank main," he admitted. It's possible that Darien had even seen him protecting newer players during the event. Was he developing a reputation? Or was there something about his look that tended towards a tank vibe? Maybe that extra thirty minutes at the gym each Tuesday was paying off.
Big Bee handed over his Plume Fossil, and the trade complete notification pinged in the corner of his UI. "Maybe I can even trade it up to something wild," he mused, "like that guy with the red paperclip."

Watching as some players spawned in to revive fossils and others spawned in to check their loot, Cypress would slowly approach the machine, both fossils in hand.
It was honestly a scary moment when the noises grew louder and louder in Mistra, the sudden ringing in her ears as suddenly, everything seemed to cut out with a error and connection lost pop-up. But then, just as things seemed to go still, there was a sudden rush of colour - she had appeared in Briarbane, small cuts quickly healing all over her person (so much like the small cuts she'd get on her hands when she was picking up pine branches during the gentle heat of summer, laughing with-) and cold snow atop her head and shoulders to snap her out of a fleeting memory. It was at this moment she remembered to take a breath, shaky as it may be, and send out Spearmint. Just to check if something had happened (she didn't want anything to have happened, please no, please don't let her be-)
The good news out of all of this was that the Fomantis was not only with her, but also was none the worse for wear - just shaken up a bit (and really, the wolf hybrid couldn't blame her - in an environment like that, and dealing with the slow encroachment of Corruption, anyone would have been shaken up.) But still, the chance that something could have happened, that Spearmint or her could have been hurt by whatever the Corruption was or worse...it frightened her. Deeply. In a way she had felt only once before-
...No. No.
Somehow, someway, Cypress wanted to protect those close to her. There could be - no, there had to be a way for her to protect those she held dear; both her team, and her potential allies. But how? For now, the answer would lay a mystery.
A mystery even more so than Professor Bunya's appearance now - having shed her 'corpornyal form', she still seemed the same, cheerful and willing to do science. But still, the creation of that lawnmower-based fossil machine, the lights darkening for only a moment, the screaming of a scared man as he ran for the hills - this didn't feel safe.
But if this is the only way to revive the fossils, what does she have to lose?
So, with a shaky heart, and shaking hands, Cypress would move the fossils to be carefully held in an arm, open the lid, and with a shaky inhale and exhale, place the Claw Fossil first,
Lights darkened, lightning flashed, and with a 'ding', it was done, the lid opening almost in perfect sync. REVIVAL SUCCESS!
And from it, stepped out a pokemon. Or, more specifically, scuttled out. A strange looking crab (for that was the only way to really describe it) with white and red feathers on its sides, looked around the lab for a moment, as if it wasn't believing it was real, before their eyes focused on her. For a moment, neither being said anything. Until finally, the Old Shrimp spoke. "Who are ya, lass?"
"Ah - um," Cypress began, ears unknowingly flattening to the sides of her head - she wasn't expecting a sudden barrage of questions. "Well - currently, we're in the Professor's lab...and my name's Cypress." "Cypress..." The Anorith began, seemingly turning the word around in their mind. "Cypress. A strong name. Wonderful - a pleasure to meet ya'." "Likewise." Seeing the success of the Claw Fossil, the Anorith opting to skitter about around the hybrid, Cypress's eyes moved to the other fossil in her hand - a simple little sail, encased in blue. With a inhale and exhale, it too was placed into the machine, and with a ding, another Pokemon stepped out. A small cyan dinosaur with rounded sapphire eyes, sails glowing a curious yellow as it too, glanced around the area almost timidly, before hiding behind the Anorith, who blinked in surprise. "W-Where am I?" "Yer in a...Professor Lab, from what I've learned," The shrimp began, motioning with a pincer. "That strong lady over there's named Cypress, she's the one who helped you out."
The Amaura peeks from around the Old Shrimp, looking up into odd eyes with a cheerful green-yellow glow to the sails ("Nice to meet you, um...miss Cypress!") before returning to their hiding place.
Silence encroaches once again, and this time it is broken ever so quickly, the two fossil 'mon approaching seemingly as one (the anorith first and the amaura following behind them, the moon reflecting the sun, so much like how you were on your first day, nervously shadowing the other new hire-) "Where 'ya going after this?" A blink and a seemingly automatic response. "Anywhere." "Anywhere?" A realization, and yet despite it, a little smile. "Yeah! There's so much outside the lab to see and do! Would you...do you want to come with me?"
The Anorith appeared to think about it for a few moments, before nodding. "Anythin' beats laying in a ocean forever. What about you?" They turned to the Amaura. "What are you gonna do now?" "I...I'm not sure. The Tundra Pokemon began, looking down to the floor as their sails turned blue. "I don't know. I'm not even sure what I'm going to do, and..."
Cypress crouched down to the dino's level, a idea on what to say lighting up within her. "Well, why don't you come with me and Anorith here? There's lots to see and do on the open road, maybe we'll find what you want to do there!"
The fossil pokemon seemed to ponder it, before coming out from behind the Anorith completely. "Y-Yeah!" The dinosaur chirped, sails returning to a cream and pink hue, before turning emerald green. in happiness "Let's go on the open road together!"
The bug type chuckled at seeing their new allies socialize together. "Couldn't have said it any better myself. 'Right then, let's walk this road."
And with that, two Pokemon were caught.
Amaura and Anorith have been revived!

When was the last time he saw Dr. Bunya? That felt⊠it felt like an eon or so ago, when he was still wet behind the ears.
Now that heâd gotten some experience down, though, he had toâhuh, wait, who was that homogenous, Father-like blob that had glowing eldritch purpleâ
âGeez, that happened to you, huh,â he would blink as he sighed; watching and waiting while others went ahead before him to use the clearly⊠well, it was a MacGyverâd âfossil revival machineâ that was for sure.
How the fuck is this supposed to revive these? he thought idly as he looked down at the Dome Fossil and the unfamiliar oneâwondering what would come out of the strange one; since he was already familiar with the one that would transform into a Kabuto once he yeeted it into the machine after the last person had gone on ahead.
(Of course he would insert the Dome Fossil in first, since he was familiar with what this one would turn into once the⊠strange contraption was done. Several loud banging noises later, he would look up and see a Kabuto skittering out of the opposite end.
âHey⊠over here,â he would wave in the Kabutoâs direction; who would shake off the disorientation before he made a gesture to the Kabuto to wait where they were as he inserted the second fossil into the opening and⊠damn, a Nokia phone?
(He hoped it was not a 3310 because man those things were nigh-indestructible.)
âWho are you?â he would hear the Kabuto through several clicking mandiblesâokay, the voice was alright but the multiple clicking âmandiblesâ was starting to creep him out.
âWell⊠you can call me Altair,â he would introduce himself while the same selfsane noises would ring out from the machine, and he tried not to pay too much attention as it got louder and louder and LOUDERâ
Before the same dinging noise echoed throughout the space once more.
âOne second,â he would apologize in the Kabutoâs direction; before opening the hatch on the other side and very nearly missing the one that flew straight out of theâ
Whoa, what was that?
âAh. It would seem I am not alone,â the Kabuto would remark.
âNope,â he would concede as the form of somethingâhe didnât recognize (stopped at Generation Six games) so he had to look it upâand blinked because this one was a Dreepy.
What made him glow up was the fact that this one was a Dragon-type; most excellent!
âHihihihihihihi whoâreyouwhoâreyouwhoâreyou?â the hyperactive little⊠semi-spectral child would chitter, thousand miles a minuteâ
Oh, no.
âOkay, one thing, letâs get out of the way, someone else is going to use the machine, soâŠâ he would continue as he herded the Kabuto and the Dreepy off to one side.
Looking over to the âeldritchâ form of Dr. Bunya, he couldnât help but ask, âWhat happened to you?!â
welcome to the âfamilyâ, Kabuto & Dreepy!

Blackthorne tried to not obviously brighten like a giddy child when Big Bee traded the plume fossil for his own. He took it gently, just looking at it, distantly realizing that the other player was still talking. "Ah- well- maybe, I'm sure!" He said, about instantly fumbling teh bag now that he'd stopped focusing on his Lordly Persona. He tried to recover. "Maybe you'll be able to trade up to a legendary." Blackthorne offered a smile.
Plume fossil in hand, Blackthorne patiently waited his turn, almost reluctantly holding his fossil up to Bunya- watching as the void-shape snatched it up, and squinted at it. He almost swore she mumbled something as she looked at it- "A snyack?"- but it was too fast for him to catch, and soon enough the fossil was dropped in the machine, which roared with a terrible noise.
At the point where Blackthorne started worrying for the safety of everyone in the lab, the machine quieted, a little beaked face pushing the lid open, a small and incredibly naked archen falling out, and instantly starting to cry.

Post by Nero on Jun 8, 2024 22:18:10 GMT 9
The lab was busy. That shouldn't really be a surprise given the confusion that had followed the abrupt end to an already strange event though. Nero imagined that most of the people here were searching for answers just like he was. This was where the professor who had started the story quest was known to reside after all, and given how confused all of the actual players of the game seemed to be, this NPC was the best lead they had.
Nero hadn't headed straight to the lab though, a little too dazed and disoriented at first to really think about searching for answers to what had happened. He'd assumed it was his own system at fault, perhaps his internet briefly losing connection or just a glitch in the hardware. It wasn't until he noticed other confused players that he eventually opened the chat and saw floods of messages about something going wrong with the quest. Someone had mentioned finding things in their inventory too, so Nero had checked his own to see the old amber that he'd picked up while digging and another lump of rock that he didn't recognise listed under his owned items. A quick check that his Elektrike was okay too, and he'd decided to log off for a while to clear away the strange feeling that the events of the day had left in the pit of his stomach.
When he'd eventually logged back on, the story quest was still the most talked about topic, various theories and claims swirling about all over the place, and Nero's curiosity had eventually gotten the best of him. Hoping that most people would have already visited the lab and left by now, he'd been disappointed to see so many other players packed into the small space already. Despite this being an MMORPG, Nero tended to stay away from other players as much as possible, wishing this could be a single player experience sometimes, especially when people tried to talk to and befriend him. Sometimes he just wanted to brood in peace, okay?
He tried to edge around the room, looking out for the NPC label that would tell him where the prof- oh sweet fuck what had happened to her? The professor was... was there something wrong with her avatar? Had it just not loaded properly? Or was it supposed to look like that, some leftover fragment of the strange energy from the quest low lingering with her...
Actually, you know what, he didn't want answers that much. Something weird had happened to the professor, the quest had ended, that was fine, that was all he needed. He didn't want his own game file getting corrupted from hanging out around her for too long.
He had been about to sneak back out when discussions of fossils and revival caught his attention, a label floating over a bizarre looking concoction of a machine suddenly expanding to explain the process of reviving fossils like the two in his inventory. The two in his... oh, the items from the quest! He pulled out the rock that he'd somehow ended up with, and when there was a gap in people bustling around the machine, he moved close to it and opened the lid. He was probably supposed to go through Bunya for these rather than use the machine directly himself, but he really didn't want to interact with... that right now. She didn't seem to notice though, perhaps too engaged with other players or perhaps glitched out so much that she didn't even notice he was there. Whatever the case, the machine dinged and whirred for him and after a while, a compartment popped open and revealed... A Kabuto! Oh cool, these really were fossils then!
He tapped the golden Pokeball onto the little crab creature and quickly put the old amber in as well, frowning to himself as he wondered how a creature as big as an Aerodactyl was going to come out of this thing... The answer was as a little baby it seemed! The tiny dinosaur was wrapped up in its own wings as the compartment opened, slowly unfurling itself to croak at its surroundings before Nero captured it inside the ball as well.
Two pretty decent Pokemon came out of this disaster of a quest then. Not a bad haul overall, and part of him wondered if they might have missed out on some much worse consequences that would have played out if the story had actually gotten to its end... His Electrike had been struggling already after all, and he'd been able to feel the strange atmosphere too... and just look at Bunya... Would that have happened to players who lingered too?
Whatever, they were out of there now, and there were too many people here for Nero's liking. He slunk back along the walls and out towards the entrance, hoping to find a space to interact with his newest teammates to see what they could do.
Aerodactyl & Kabuto have been revived from their fossils!

"Maybe I can even trade it up to something wild, like that guy with the red paperclip." "What the hell are you talking about?" asked Jade from somewhere behind Big Bee, scowling like a teen dragged along to a family picnic. "Talk straight, bandana guy, you still owe me for that thing with the aliens out on the pier."
The scanty ninja character was standing in the middle of the room with her arms folded over her chest, hands clamped protectively in both armpits like she'd been stuffed into an invisible straitjacket. Jade generally liked the default temperature in this game, which is why it had been a shock to spawn back in covered in snow. If she'd known there would be a winter level she'd have crafted her character wearing a damn jacket.
Was she freaked out? Oh, you better believe it.
First thing she'd checked on respawn was her Pokemon. Goose was fine, and everyone else was there too. No talk of this Everworld or whatever spooky afterlife people were always talking about. Second thing she'd checked was herself: covered in scratches and prickles, sure, but even creepier that she watched them vanish before her eyes. That's just unnatural. Then again, nothing about any of this was natural.
"So if we're just gonna stand here and not worry about all thisâ" she jerked her head at the weird, dark shadow that had once been a weird, magical catgirlâ "Or that guy..." She was referring to the live human man who'd popped out of the machine during the demonstration. "Or that bone thing..." What kinda fossil was shaped like a ball? "...then I guess I'm next."
She stood in line, taking longer than necessary to fish what felt like literal bricks out of her inventory. That was 90% of the reason she'd shown up hereâ the fossils hadn't let her throw them away (some kinda inventory management mechanic), which for Jade on Realistic meant they just kept showing back up in her pack.
Guess I'll try this one, she thought, picking on a whim and putting the slightly smaller Claw Fossil into the hood of the bastardized lawnmower first. She leapt back like a startled cat, skin prickling, as shadowy electricity sparked all around the device. "Is this safe?!" she demanded, flinching visibly as the Fossil Machine dinged like a rice cooker to show it was done.
Gingerly, she pried it open again. To her relief, the result was not anything human, but instead a bug Pokemon with big googly eyes. "Aw..." she said, heart instantly melting, then stopped herself before picking it up. Her heart pounded like a startled rabbit.
What am I doing?
What was this game doing to her? Seeing giant bugs as cute? What was next, getting a pet tarantula?
Congratulations! ANORITH has been revived! Sassy nature. Very finicky. The Anorith peered skeptically up at her. If it wasn't clearly below eye level, Jade might think it was looking down on her. <So this is the future, huh?> it said. <I thought it would be more... well, never mind.>
"Mmm, join the group," Jade said. She collected the bug and stepped out of line for a sec to recombombulate. It'd take her a minute to get out her Jaw Fossil anyway, since it had re-spawned itself at the bottom of her backpack.
Next time she looked at the Anorith, she did a double-take and bit back a swear. There were three more of them now, smaller ones swarming around the original. "Where'd you come from?" she asked incredulously, wondering if she'd have to feed all of them.
<Oh, this is my posse,> said the Anorith, as if that was obvious. <They're my friends.> She said it as if to emphasize Jade was not part of that select group. The Catcher hitched her mouth to the side, weighing up whether to be annoyed or not, and decided it wasn't worth it.
"Gotta ask Roger what to name you."
<Um, I already have a name? And it's Megan.>
"Megan. Great." Jade blew a strand of hair out of her eyes, wondering whether it was even worth reviving the second one.

"I'm talking about that guy with the red paperclip!" Big Bee said, emphasizing their name as if he were talking about a president or movie star and not some niche micro-celebrity from a now defunct swap meet website. "He had this red paperclip and he traded up and up, only swapping with people who overvalued what he had. Paperclip for notebook, notebook for stapler, and so on. Until he ended up with a motorbike! Then he traded the motorbike for a house!" He punctuated the story by holding the armor fossil aloft.
"So what do you say? I'll trade you this pristine, brand new fossil for that jaw bone." He grinned. To him the armor fossil was just a step on the trade to a house, but maybe for Jade Jager it would be the final stop. "As an apology for the thing with the aliens."
Trade complete, Bee inspected his jawbone. He'd been planning on trading again, maybe to get an Old Amber, but something about that strong jaw reminded him of his bro orioncayge, or even the face-shielding on Jam. What would it be? How big would its teeth and head be? Would it be a good friend to his other Pokemon? "Maybe I'll keep this little guy or gal," he mused, dreaming of some big-jawed beast running around with Jam and the others.
He hustled over to the revival machine. There was a line now, and as each person received their steaming, screaming prize his heart pounded faster in his chest. When it was his turn he tenderly placed the jaw in the machine.
There was a hiss, and a crackle of ancient darkness, and a background hum like a microwave turning in the dark. With a loud ding the lid popped open, and Bee reached in to pick up his new friend.
Teeth the size of laundry pegs chomped down on his hand.
"Ah!" Bee cried, mostly in shock because the bite didn't hurt. The creature chomped down lightly a few times, as if it were feeling his hand with its mouth, teeth, and tongue. He cautiously reached in with his other hand and scooped up the little creature, letting it gnaw lightly on his hand. "Hey little buddy!" he said, cradling the baby Tyrunt. Its scales were still soft from the machine.
At the sound of his voice the Pokemon turned to him, mouth still in hand. Her eyes were huge, reptilian and fully dilated, and he could feel her imprinting with his face. "I'm Big Bee, what's your name?" he asked gently.
She tried to say something, but her mouth was still full. He slowly extricated his hand, and her lower jaw dropped open as she panted like a dog. Her thick tail slapped against Bee's back, the outlet for her excitement.
"Hey!!" she said, her giant eyes looking all around the light lab. "My name's Parker!!"

With Parker cradled in one arm, Bee hopped back in line. With so many new, screaming Pokemon it felt like he was in line to drop someone off at a daycare, or to attend a Wiggles concert.
"Where are we??" asked the big-jawed baby. "Why is it so light??"
"It's a lab! You were...revived here I guess? Do you remember anything from before?"
"No!!" she squawked. She leaned forward, and Bee let her gnaw happily on his hand while they waited for a chance to revive Relicanth.
Now at the front of the line, Bee tenderly placed the gill fossil in the machine. The curved lines of rock and bone looked almost like an ancient wi-fi signal. He shut the lid one-handed, and stepped back.
After the machine's now familiar humming, the lid popped, and before Bee had a chance to reach in a massive, rocky head pushed the lid fully open. Relicanth swam languidly up and out of the machine. Its body was studded with patches of opal scales that glimmered in the lab lights. The ancient fish swam in slow circles around him, and Bee tried to follow it for a few laps before getting nauseous. "I'm Big Bee," he said, turning his head. "What's your name?"
"....I still remember the Before Times. Vainly swimming in the endless dark..."
That was a shock. What did this Pokemon know? Was it talking about what happened to Lentimas? "Wow really? What was in the Before Times? Other Pokemon? People?"
"...Well I don't know. It was dark, wasn't it?" replied the creature. It huffed air out of its stony gills in little puffs of grating laughter.
"Okay great. Well what's your name?"
"...You may call me...Odyssey."

Lucille found herself flitted away to a rather busy looking Laboratory, the insistent ringing of bells slowly fading in her ears. Clutching a singular round piece of fossilized Amber to her chest, she whipped her head back and forth wildly in search of her ghostly companion, a feeling of dread settling in her chest as the large draconic creature was nowhere to be seen âByleth?! Byleth!â She remembered digging through charcoal black ashes and bits of fragmented bone before a flashing red error alarmed and swarmed her UI then things faded to black.
A rumble at her hip caught her attention, lifting her jacket to take a closer look before breathing a sigh of relief and plucking the sphere of her ghostly emotional support dragon from her belt. Byleth must have been resent to her luxuryball with the whole black out situation. Lucille gave the capsule a gentle toss into the air, watching it burst and let out the towering Dragapult.
Byleth let out a yawn, sleepily rubbing her eyes before floating over and nestling her chin against her trainers head, using it as a nice comfortable pillow, causing the ivory haired woman to look up at her âYeah, glad you're okay too.â She let out an amused snort of air from her nostrils before heading into the laboratory to take her turn with the Fossil reviving machine.
Lucille lowered her gaze to the fiery orange colored resin resting in her palm, studying the smooth surface with bits of ancient bone buried deep within, she had to wonder what Pokémon would come from such a thing. She felt eyes on her, many other trainers in the room were waiting for her to revive her fossil so that they could get to theirs. Swallowing thickly, her eyes shifted to the machine before her, reaching out a gloved-hand to tap a button to pop open the lid to lower her piece of Old Amber inside. Closing the lid and watching as the machine jolted and whirred to life, energy swirling like dark tendrils reaching out from under the rim of the lid. It was horrifyingly intriguing, but after what felt like a good few moments of rumbling about like a washing machine with a brick in it, the machine stilled. Smoke arising from the lid as it popped back open.
A whooshing sound pierced through the idle chatter of the room as a pale colored PokĂ©mon leapt from the fossil machine, the prehistoric PokĂ©mon swooping and circling above the woman's head before lowering into a landing, wings tattered and a scar marring the bridge of his nose. It seemed that this Aerodactyl had seen many-a-battle in ancient times. The beast stared with narrow charcoal irises, skin dampened with fluids from the restoration process. Aerodactyl shook the excess liquids off before tucking his wings in and turning his attention to the snow-haired woman standing with a bewildered expression on her face âWhere am I?â
âA la-laboratory, Doctor Bunya's to be exact.â Lucille answered after shaking herself out of her stupor âYou've been asleep for quite a long time. How are you feeling?â
âI don't remember much... I feel stiff and dazed. Also who is that with you?â The Dino asked while pointing a singular digit towards the sleepy Dragapult resting upon the Kindlers head âWho are you?â
Lucille lifted her head and blinked âThis is Byleth, she has been with me since she was a little hatchling. We've been through quite a lot here and she helps calm me down when I'm anxious.â She responded softly before reaching her hand and giving Byleth's head a light pat, not wanting to disturb her too much. The dragon-ghost type briefly opening one of her eyes and groggily waving her ghostly tail at the newcomer before nuzzling against her trainers icy locks. Lucille then lowered her hand and pointed towards herself âI'm Lucille, I'm a PokĂ©mon trainer that travels around a lot and makes friends with PokĂ©mon like you. What about you? do you have a name?â Lucille introduced herself.
The battle-scarred Aerodactyl let out a gruff hum in thought, his eyes wandering around the surroundings as if trying to find something that would make him remember his own name. He slowly shook his head and lowered it in disappointment âI can't recall... Much of my life seems to be a blank to me since waking up in this strange place.â
âHey! That's ok, there's no rush to remember right away. Maybe you could come and travel with me? We may find ways to help you with your memory. What do you think?â Lucille suggested as she leaned forward to reach out her hand towards the prehistoric pokemon. The newly revived pokemon's gaze lowered to the hand presented to him, furrowing his eyebrows for a few moments before he tentatively placed his wing-hand in Lucille's with a nodâ
âDon't see what other choice I have, this world is unfamiliar to me. I shall trust myself to you, Lucille... and hope that we can find answers together.â

"So what do you say? I'll trade you this pristine, brand new fossil for that jaw bone. As an apology for the thing with the aliens." Jenny had a real problem saying no to people, especially when she had no good reason to. "It's mine! I dug it up fair and square!" and "But I really want to keep this one specific Pokemon I've never heard of!" weren't very strong excuses, and lying never even crossed her mind.
Grimacing, eying Big Bee like she could still yoink it back at any second, she held out the cinderblock-heavy chunk of jawbone. "Sure, whatever. Let's swap, see if you can get a house out of it. ...Actually, hell, if you do, I get dibs on a spare room. Deal?" Couldn't be anything but an upgrade from Russell's trailer.
The Armor Fossil or whatever the hell was even heavier than the jaw one had been, and Jade found herself counting down the seconds in her head as she waited in line for the creepy machine to revive it. When she finally found herself at the front again, she lugged the rock forwards, propping it up against her hip while she slapped with her elbow at the lawnmower hood to pop it open.
<Wow, you might want to like, work on your technique,> said Megan the Anorith, followed by a chorus of <Yeeeeah!>s from the peanut gallery. Jade shot them a dirty look and managed to tip the fossil into the machine, closing the lid after it.
When it reopened (postâactivation sequence), a little sauropod with a large, polished black face blinked up at her.
Congratulations! SHIELDON has been revived! Sassy nature. Sturdy body. "Hey little buddy," Jade said, bending down to peer at it a bit closer. "You're sure aâ"
<Ew, oh my god,> it said, in a voice eerily similar to Megan's. Jade felt her stomach sink into a pool of terrible, terrible dread. <Where am I? This is weird.>
Another one? Are you goddamn serious?
The Shieldon clambered out of the Revival Machine, jumping down onto the litter-strewn linoleum. <Hello?? Where's my posse at?>
"No. Nono!" Jade cut the dinosaur off, attempting to seize it around the middle like a small dog and hoist it off the ground. It was every bit as heavy as it had been as a fossil and she found herself staggering. "You're not gonna call a bunch of mini-mes. I don't got enough Pokemon chow to feed all of you, so you're just gonna have to tell the rest of your little clique toâ"
<Um, she's with us?> Megan interrupted. The Shieldon saw her and brightened immediately. <Hey girl!>
<Oh my god, hey girl!! It's been like, 10 billion years?>
"I wanna sign out," said Jade, looking for an exit.

There was horror. Horror was something Alicia was vaguely aware of. It wasnât her preferred choice of media to indulge in, so she wasnât super familiar with it. But she acknowledged its existence.
Then there was what happened to the mad Dr. BunyaâŠ
âBUNYA!?â Alicia yelped out in fear at the sight of the stand-in âprofessorâ. âOh heavens, what happened to you out there!?â
She was only partially aware of the⊠hodge-podge construction of the âfossil revival machineâ, more focused on her concern over Bunyaâs ethereal state. But when no further interaction on that front was possible, Alicia realized she would have to focus on what this section was actually meant for.
âŠ
Becoming a pure shadow of Corruption in a Bunya-shaped form had definitely not helped the mad doctorâs⊠eccentric-ness. Especially since she seemed to see fit to revive an ancient HUMAN who was understandably distressed!
She wasnât entirely sure that she trusted the contraption yet, so she proceeded to step aside and let others work the machine first. And then she ended up finding herself almost crowded out as more and more players took to the fossil revival. As well as hearing a real slew of personalities be brought to life once more.
âŠ
Including some really schoolgirl clique-y individuals!? What even!? And a really hyper active little one. That little dragon looked so cute!
âRight, letâs get in now.â Alicia mused, pulling her Carbon Fossil out and coming back up to pass the relic to the incarnated shade. She wasnât sure if she wanted to do anything with the other fossil she decided to pick up. But this one? This one she had ideas for now, if she could at least convince the Pokemon that came out to agree to the idea.
With a quick snatch and a toss, her Carbon Fossil was in the machine and the engine thrummed. With a new ding, the little coal mon came rolling out.
âWhat⊠what is happening? Why is everything so big? Wh-â the newly reborn Rolycoly began, before jumping at the sight of himself in a reflection. âNo! Iâm starting from zero again!?â
âUm⊠G-good morning?â Alicia tried, uncertain. Remembering what she was hearing from a few other recently revived Pokemon, she felt like she had to ask. âDo you have a name, MrâŠ?â
The Rolycoly shifted over to look up and regard Alicia. â⊠In my time names were⊠unnecessary. I simply was and my presence demanded respect. The titans were unmistakable. Facts of life. Inviolable.â
Then the carbon cart huffed a smoky sigh. âBut no longer, I seeâŠâ
Alicia couldnât help but feel a pang of sorrow. With the fact that many of her Pokemon were coming from more recent generations, sheâd started going more in depth into various things. Including the gimmicks thereof. Galarâs Gigantamax gimmick seemed to be relevant here. âYou used to tower over everything, huh?â
The Rolycoly nodded. âThe earth shuddered at my every footfall. The less fortunate scattered in my wake. I had few equals.â
â⊠Stick with me then, Fumar. While I might not be able to make you a titan again, if youâre ready to work with me I can put all the effort I can into making you strong once more.â Alicia offered, picking the carbon cart up.
âThat is to be the moniker I am known by?â Fumar asked of his new name. âLet us make the most of this new era then.â
> Congratulations! Rolycoly has been revived!
Swiping the pop-up away, Alicia smiled. âLetâs go and get you introduced to everyone else.

Dr. Bunya shedding her corporeal form was creepy, but it was also a relief to see her be human again instead of a ghost. The huge bag of fossils became Pokémon he imagined had never seen before on UNOVR; he was quite jealous of Nero 's Aerodactyl. The rock-type fossil Pokémon possessed incredible speed, though he was uncertain how much of that speed he would be able to utilize, given UNOVR's height limit in the air.
As he would find out in due time, the Pokémon he revived from the PLUME FOSSIL would be able to carry him into the sky once he jumped through a few hoops: evolution and a trip to the Identity Parlor. All his plans seemed to revolve around that seedy place in the back alleys of Briarbane, didn't it?
When the Professor asked who was next, Josh raided his hand, handing over the fossil when prompted. The dimming lights and lightning coming from the device made the scout flinch, nearly getting singed by a stray bolt before the machine dinged, revealing a small Archen that came to rest on the Pokémon racer's head. "Welcome to the team, Terry," Josh named the rock-type.
"I waited eleven thousand years to be with a crazy like you?!" the cranky bird screeched, Josh not expecting the fossil Pokémon to speak to him. "I see that Liepard outside; how can you treat her like that?" he continued to rant, positively disgusted at the sight of a saddle that was obviously too small for the trainer to even sit in. To him, it wasn't right!
Reviving the Plume Fossil into Terry the Archen!

"Nyan of a what?" Rose blinked, the censoring function of her game still perfectly functional.
Rose's own fossils were sitting atop a little red wagon that she dragged behind her. They were sitting on little pillows, like they were being carefully taken care of and already treated like the gems they probably were, far before she could even hatch.
She politely waited her turn, giddy as could be. She didn't know what was up with that weird man who crawled out of the lawnmower, but she did watch as Pokémon after Pokémon got revived from it! It was exciting, she was going to get a new friend and she had no idea what it was going to be!
When it was her turn, she immediately clapped with excitement, quickly grabbing the handle of her wagon and dragging it over to the machine. Grabbing the first fossil, a Fossilized Drake, she'd shove it in the machine and closed the door. She went to turn it on, watching with wide eyes as the machine hummed to life, only to without warning seemingly stumble. The engine shuddered, a small puff of smoke as the door just reopened, her fossil the same as before.
A sudden UI prompt flashed in front of her face, making a huge frown immediately spread across her face.
ERROR Secondary Fossil Required. Missing Fossilized Bird or Fossilized Fish. ERROR
"W-what?" She frowned deeper, reaching in to grab the Fossil. It was just the same, nothing changed. She glanced back at her wagon, seeing the Jaw Fossil there. That wasn't the fossil she needed to revive her new friend! She didn't know she needed two to make one friend!
How could she dream of reviving only her other fossil, and leave this friend to never live again? It made her so sad!
She placed her Fossilized Drake down, a deep frown on her face as she picked up the Jaw Fossil. "Umm, e-excuse me!" Rose called out to anyone who might still be waiting in line, her voice quivering. "D-does anyone have a Fish or Bird? I can't make my new friend! I'll trade this one for it!" Wide eyes locked onto orioncayge, frowning heavily as she held onto hope.
