OUT OF THE GAME Dear Diary,
Today, my physical therapist recommended a video game today. It wasn't any official diagnosis or medical recommendation, but they said they had seen research going on involving the deep-dive virtual reality technology proving beneficial for patients that struggled with motor skills. That being able to move a limb in this so-called virtual world would help their mind become used to functioning as it should, in a body seemingly free of their disorder.
It seems a little bit strange, but the reasoning seems sound. I can't imagine how it would help my muscular dystrophy, but so long as I don't use the Worldscreen for long sessions, I should be fine.
I'll return after I give it a go.
Dear Diary,
UNOVR has opened my eyes, and not in the way that I was expecting to. I have spent decades of my life wondering the purpose of it all. Attempting to understand the fabric of our reality. Religion, spirituality, occultic and pagan mythos, nothing has ever hit home or felt like some kind of awakening or understanding.
This did.
This is a world filled with seemingly sentient artificial intelligence, some so smart that I genuinely struggled to comprehend that they were programmed to be this way. I had a long conversation with this woman who claimed to be my Mother, about what it meant to exist. And they, somehow beyond all means, had an outlook of total hope and excitement for the future.
These NPCs, or "Non-Player Characters," as the game refers to them as, are incredibly intelligent. This world is inhabited by these small digital monsters that are equally incredibly sentient and intelligent, able to make their own choices, create their own future.
I need some time to think.
Dear Diary,
If the world UNOVR exists within, can somehow hold completely artificial sentience that is indistinguishable from true sentience, how are we to pretend that there is no possibility that we are in fact, the same? These NPCs are seemingly programmed in a way that they are incapable of comprehending "The Real World." But what is to say, that we are even "real?" If that word holds any weight to it anymore?
We exist, they exist, are we not both in fact, real? How can we pretend that we exist on any higher level of intelligence or existence than they do?
What if we are simply 'programmed' not to recognize the flaws in our world, or those who come from beyond, either?
I'm not saying our world is the Matrix, nor do I intend to imply that we are simply digital beings, who created digital beings. But the truth of the reality lies that we, mundane average humans, have created an entirely new universe. Multiple of them, different servers. Different outcomes, different worlds.
There is no way to confirm that we are not the same. A fabrication of something else, something above us. Is there a higher power facilitating this? Some eldritch being we couldn't possibly comprehend, because we have simply been programmed not to? Our conscious minds incapable of understanding the true nature of our world.
I'm coming to believe that it's entirely possible that there are many.
But right now, the only Eldritch Entities that I see right now are Humans.
I intend to figure out the depth of this world as much as I possibly can. I'll return when I have something else to say. | INSIDE THE GAME Dear Diary,
The European Servers are in shambles. I originally joined it because it aligned with my early to rise, early to sleep schedule, but they have become broken. The war between the Princess and the Prince have grown beyond dangerous, and little is to be recovered from in this world. Many 'players' blame each other, but the truth is, they don't understand.
They're not playing a game. They are people messing with a world they do not understand.
That said, the Legendary's of this World have my immediate interest. We, humankind, as constructs of this reality, decided to give it Gods. Higher Powers, because we couldn't conceive a world without them, I suppose.
Is it odd that my first instincts were to align myself with the Princess? The Dream is an odd sensation, floaty, but for a brief moment, I am allowed to escape my troubles and simply, exist. To allow my brain to exist free of my mortal shell. No recognition or even conception of pain. It was nice. How often do people create narratives for us, that we are intended to enjoy? Books, movies, video games, we have constantly attempted to find new and better ways to immerse yourself within a story. I find it funny to me that so many people are objecting to that idea, especially when many still treat this as a game they are playing.
People are just used to being the Protagonist in their own stories, I suppose. Dreams however seem to be a fairly recurring theme in much of the Eldritch mythology that I keep reading. Makes me wonder if there is any potential truth of reality to be discovered there?
Regardless, it seems there is quite a lot of talk about escaping to other servers. Abandoning these individuals within this world because it did not go according to their plan. The "Video Game" has increased in difficulty, and for some it is no longer fun.
Fun. What an odd word. I can't fathom why so many continue to treat this world as nothing more than a Game. It well and truly boggles the mind in ways I can't describe.
Despite that, I believe I will be joining them. I've heard that the American servers are quite interesting as of late. And I can hardly call myself a researcher if I don't learn about how this is different than the one I know.
Perhaps I will grow closer to my understanding of the nature of both our worlds in time. It is an interesting experience to be sure. Perhaps one day I'll publish my thoughts and discoveries somewhere, but today is not that day. No reason to spread panic, people are quick to hate that which scares them.
This time, I'll make my avatar far more true to myself. I have grown tired of pretending to be anything more than I truly am. I think I'll even make an effort to bond with the Pokemon some more. They are sentient creatures, after all. Many more intelligent then people I know. Perhaps I can convince one of the truth eventually. I wonder just how difficult it is to truly break that block on their programming after all. | FACE CLAIMS IRL CHARACTER
