Josh's experience bar was so close to filling. He had already purchased a saddle for Goroh, though it looked more like a leather seat on a motorcycle than a saddle one would put on a typical ride Pokémon. There were also no reins that came with it; with a Cyclizar having steering bones much like the handlebars of a bicycle, he had no need for them. He just needed that bar to fill one more time, and he could strap his newly-purchased gear to the dragon-type and zoom.
It would be a way to ease into the world of truly high speeds; his harrowing ride on Raiden through the Surge Steppes was a reminder that he needed to ease himself into the blistering speeds he wanted to experience. Even with reduced pain thresholds, a fall was still going to cause very painful scrapes.
Josh reined his Zebstrika to an abrupt stop outside the grove, causing the electric-type to dramatically rear. Goroh, likewise, slammed on the brakes. If anyone was nearby, the sound of squealing rubber against the road may have drawn their attention.

Ever since she participated in the past two Quests, Aero didn't have time to truly relax on UNOVR. And after dealing with a lot of classes, exams, and homework lately, she needed something to slow down outside of Pokemon-related gameplay. Now that she thought about it, she was still curious about that riding player who invited her to those said Quests. She was amazed at how he was fearless when it came to riding Pokemon and despite his lack of experience in the game, he was able to ride her Type: Null whom she neglected to gain attention lately. Maybe if she has other Pokemon that she could ride on their backs, she might try Pokemon riding with him.
That aside, Aero decided the moment she logged back into UNOVR was to relax at Birchwood Grove. She has no interest in catching Pokemon there for a while. So she decided to take this time to stroll around with her Type: Null, Croconaw, and Braviery for some well-deserved break time.
At least that was the plan until she heard a noise akin to the squealing sound of a tire. She and her Pokemon rushed towards the source of the noise. But she stopped to see the devil himself. "Josh? What are you doing here?" Josh Devlin{Current Party}Coco the Croconaw (Tank) Ruffy the Braviery (Sweeper) Type: Null (TBD)

To his surprise, one of Josh's friends was out and about as he and his Cyclizar slowed to a stop near the grove's entrance. "Aero? Fancy seeing you out here," Josh returned the greeting. "I would ask much the same of you. As for me, I'm just going after a few more wild Pokémon to spar against. Finishing up this last level before I can hop on Goroh's back," he gestured toward the Cyclizar.
Josh slid off Raiden's back, expecting to battle with the Zebstrika. Standing next to the Paldean dragon, he clicked its grey "Mount" icon, only to be greeted with the following red UI message:
Error> You must be at least level 10 to craft a saddle for this Pokémon.
The scout let Raiden wander into the Tall Grass, ready to pick a fight while his trainer caught up with Aero. "So what's been new? Work's finally letting up on the overtime, so I can spend more time here."

Aero waved to her friend. "It's not much. I'm pretty much spent from school and I'm only here to relax for a while. So I'm pretty not much available for questing or adventuring at the moment." While Josh was focused on his Pokemon, Aero took this time to gingerly scratched her Type: Null's chin, much to their delight. As for her Croconaw and Braviery, the former started to wander around with Josh's Pokemon while the latter stayed by her side.
"Although, when it comes to new plans, I do have some plans like expanding my party beyond my specialties. I did say that I lacked some Electric-types before. I'm not sure where I can find them other than the usual spots." Aero hummed in thought. "Not to mention I really need to grind up to level up my Supports. Right now, that class is my one weakness and I do need it for a Colossal Battle rematch." Josh Devlin{Current Party}Coco the Croconaw (Tank) Ruffy the Braviery (Sweeper) Type: Null (TBD)

That was perfectly fair of Aero to want to just relax and socialize; Josh's Pokémon were strong enough that they didn't need his commands to defeat what was on the Route easily. He just needed to keep an eye on their HP to ensure none of them dropped on him. "That's okay; a lot has happened, and I'm just grinding out the last bit of this level. Talking to you will make it go by faster, if anything."
Raiden took down Grass-type after Grass-type with FLAME CHARGE, that experience bar inching closer to the right side with each victory. While each individual win was not worth much, it would add up. "I'm doing much the same, trying to find ride Pokémon not of traditional types for it. I'd love to find a ghost-type ride Pokémon, for instance," Josh bounced his own thoughts off what Aero was saying. "Oh, I had a rough time of one against a Wooloo; I only had one Pokémon left when I won. What ended up getting you?"

Aero smiled at his response. Sure, video games were mostly all about defeating bosses and solving puzzles. But for her, one of the best parts of a game was to enjoy the scenery and sounds without doing anything at all. Maybe that was one of the reasons she was attracted to UNOVR in the first place. "Well, that's another part of my UNOVR to-do list. Talking to another player outside of adventures and quests."
When the Colossal Battle topic continued, Aero frowned as she recalled vivid details about her encounter. "It was a Machoke at medium level. The Colossal Battle wasn't updated at that time since it occurred after the Zapdos raid. I thought I could get through it to prepare for it. But I got cocky and gave up before it knock me down along with my partners. After that, I became more careful at fights I don't know I could win." She then gestured for her Type: Null to sit down while she did the same right next to it. Josh Devlin{Current Party}Coco the Croconaw (Tank) Ruffy the Braviery (Sweeper) Type: Null (TBD)

Josh had his own way of enjoying the scenery, though it was at much higher speed. To him, there was nothing like sitting on a Pokémon's back and watching the terrain fly by. "Glad to see it! The social aspect of the game is another thing some players really enjoy. Meeting people in the game and adventuring with them, and pushing each other to grow stronger is part of the fun, too," Josh remarked, withdrawing Goroh for Raiden when the Cyclizar began to tire. The fights would be a little slower, what with Raiden not having as many favorable attacks against the forest's denizens, but how much longer could it take? They were so close, they thought they had heard the level-up fanfare already.
"The Zapdos raid was before my time," Josh said as he listened to Aero's Colossal Battle experience, and a tough loss at that. "How different were they back then? I haven't had any issues with any of the ones I've done." Aero chuckled with a smile. "I heard non-VR MMORPGs exist. And Wi-Fi multiplayer for the Pokemon games on 3DS and Switch. I guess the part about interesting is much more in UNOVR than the ones in my Switch ones," she said while stroking her Braviery's back. "But to be honest, I almost never talk to other players outside of quests, battles, and events. So just talking to you makes me feel better."
When Josh mentioned the Zapdos raid was before his "time", she slowly knew what he meant. "So you haven't signed up before or during, huh? It's not like any Dynamax and Tera Raid I've ever participated in. There were story beats I couldn't take my eyes off and consequences if we did something wrong during the raid. My Boon of Surging came from a Quest connected to that raid. I thought I would lose it when I had to save Zapdos, long story. But here we are, being the key to our Ultra Beast survival from that day." She then recalled the original topic and sighed. "Well, there were limited Pokemon I could choose. Only a Glaceon and a Machoke. I chose the latter on Medium difficulty and didn't take another one ever since. Again, I only took it in preparation for the Zapdos raid that time." "They do; I dabbled in a Korean one years and years ago on a private server." Those were games one had to play that game and only that game to get enjoyment out of. Even with the quintupled experience and money drops, it took Josh well over a year to be able to start doing endgame content and PVP. "Call me crazy, but I've always been more into the roleplay behind Pokémon than the mainline series, which is part of what got me excited to make an account here in the first place." There was just a certain thrill about having an entire belt of apex predators at one's command. Being on the back of the legendary electric tiger was, of course, the dream. A dream that would take an uncertain amount of time to realize.
Josh listened to the story of the Thunderfall raid as Aero told it, humming periodically as he shifted his eyes to the experience bar with just a few unfilled pixels remaining. Only a few more battles, and he would be able to do what he came here to do. "Sounds like I need to get a team raid-ready sooner than later," he mused.
The scout hummed again as the topic shifted to the Colossal Battle system. "Sounds like it used to be a lot more restrictive," Josh replied. "When I play a Pokémon game, I usually have a specific final team in mind. The new system makes it easier to go for a specific team. Sadly, I think the rest of the Pokémon I want are only obtainable through Hard battles. And I have a more important priority right now -- one that's going to require me to save up 2,000 BYTES."

In her honesty, while she heard about MMORPGs, she hadn't play them especially with the Korean ones. Maybe it has something to do with the pay-to-win allegations she heard on social media lately and the fact her parents wouldn't trust her with their credit cards for UNOVR. For the most part, she was basically playing without paying for premium currency. Or in gamer terms, a "F2P player". "I'm only got into UNOVR since I can walk around a new world without leaving my room. The latest games are mostly open-world similar to Breath of the Wild, so that's the only thing I enjoyed Pokemon so far. So that kinda counts for "role-playing", too."
Now that he mentioned it, Aero realized it had been a few months since the last raid. She was raving to go for another one. But at the same time, she wanted more time to level up her team as well us catching new Pokemon to balance it out. "You're not the only one who needs to grind right now. I did say I learned my lesson and I'm trying to catch up when it comes to meta or whatever. But at the same time, I need to figure out the story for this game as well." Josh was also a free-to-play player, though that might change depending on what premium items get introduced to the game. It was one of those games he had to commit to. "Can echo that," Josh replied as he watched Raiden trample over some stray grass-types with his FLAME CHARGE. "I've got close to 250 hours in Tears of the Kingdom myself. I joined UNOVR because I wanted to experience horseback riding. Where I'm from, there's no place to--"
Information> Josh reaches level 10.
The fanfare snapped him out of his conversation with Aero almost immediately. "...Finally!" Josh exclaimed, perhaps loudly enough to startle his friend. "I can at last get started. You have a Pokémon you've wanted to learn to ride with, but haven't?" he asked, withdrawing Raiden for Goroh, his Cyclizar. He excitedly worked on strapping the leather saddle to the dragon-type's back; while he could sit directly on the creature's scales, it seemed more comfortable to them both if there was a cushion between the two.

Aero's eyes widened as she watched Josh leveled up to his desired number. "Wow, congratulations!" Yet she wondered about his current location in real life. She could guess he might be living in a city or somewhere that didn't offer horseback rides to the public. Either way, she didn't want to ruin his excitement of reaching his goal right now. Besides, she quickly got caught off-guard with his question regarding if she has a Ride Pokemon with her.
"There's Ruffy and Type: Null. But not officially my mounts," she explained. "Most of the time, I mostly use fast travel or go to locations on foot. I kinda have a habit of walking around mindlessly after all." She didn't want to admit that part, but she didn't want to make any misunderstandings with Josh. Besides, it might have something to do with a condition her mother suspected. Maybe she might take her advice and go to a shrink to confirm it. "As for your question, I don't know if I have any other Pokemon that I can ride." Josh Devlin{Current Party}Coco the Croconaw (Tank) Ruffy the Braviery (Sweeper) Type: Null (TBD)

As Josh finished securing Goroh's cushion, Aero namedropped some of the rest of his team, many of which the scout was familiar with. "Both of them would be quite a bit faster than walking. Riding a Pokémon multiplies your speed. It'll be great for going to locations you can't fast travel to," he tried to sell his friend on his craft.
Josh skin tingled as he sat atop Goroh; he had seen how maddeningly fast Alicia Westfield 's Cyclizar was. As much as he loved going fast, this was one time he needed to exercise caution. Grabbing the normal-type's steering bones, he got ready to weave his way around hills and toward the woods. "Gonna join me, Aero?" he asked.

Aero hummed in thought. While walking wasn't much of a hindrance to her, riding a Pokemon would make it easier for her to travel around without relying too much on the fast travel function. "You know what? I'll try riding! You guys want to run around with me?" Her Type: Null and Braviery looked at each other in confusion for a while. "Don't worry. I will train you guys hard the same way Josh did! Plus, we might get our vengeance with the Colossal Battle with you guys around." Hearing this, they turned to their trainer and nodded in agreement. "Awesome! We'll be riding on high like a Pokemon cowgirl!"
Then upon hearing Josh's invitation, she knew what to do next. "Sure! I hope your Cyclizar won't might some extra weight." She carefully rode behind Josh on his Pokemon after recalling her Pokemon and prepared herself for the ride of a lifetime. "Alright! Time to get this show on the road!" Josh expected Aero to join him using his own Pokémon, not hop on behind him. Though it was somewhat of a tight fit, Goroh could seat two people if need be. At least the young lass had plenty of enthusiasm. "Riding Goroh will feel quite a bit different than being on a horse Pokémon, I imagine," Josh advised, knowing how Alicia Westfield 's Cyclizar moved. "If you like the cowgirl feel, I'd get a Pokémon with a bouncier gait, like a Zebstrika."
Once he felt Aero 's hold, Josh steeled himself for a run on the dragon-type's back. "Let's ride, Aero!" the scout cried. With a squeeze to Goroh's sides, the green Pokémon trotted, then cantered much like a horse would. Once the trio reached a certain speed, the Pokémon raised his four legs and coasted on his two large, wheel-like air sacs. His stomach rose and fell with the small hills, shredding grass behind them as they continued to pick up speed. "Goroh's like a living motorcycle. Great if you like going really fast, but the gait of a horse is a lot of fun, too."
