This entire race was mad chaos, if he was being honest. Like, really?
Despite being near the very back of the pack, heâd only moved up⌠he didnât have time to think of how many places heâd moved; as long as he gained some ground.
However, he was sure that any other moves he would do, he needed to save for the final stretchâwhich was slowly but surely coming up.
âCome on, hang on⌠donât fuck up on me now, weâre getting closeââ
The good thing about this at least, was that the whistling hadnât started back up; so everyoneâs eardrums would be spared the loud whistling noise.
âGo!â he would shout, hearing the loud exhaust ârocketsâ roaring as they charged forwardâŚ

After the harrowing experience of narrowly avoiding becoming a pancake against the giant right-turn sign, Josh glanced back to see Alicia Westfield 's Bayleef, wreathed in purple electricity. Did she just say Electro Drift? How in the world did a Bayleef learn such a move? With that kind of speed boost, a legendary one at that, he couldn't let off the gas at all.
Grunting after a long and sharp left turn farther down the course, he saw a rainbow-colored strip of track that a tutorial told him was a pit zone. Staying within its winding, narrow path would give Raiden a second wind, but due to how much it twisted back and forth across the course, he opted not to utilize it. "We gotta gun it, Raiden! If she does that again, she'll overtake us for sure!" Josh urged. Electro Drift, in his eyes, was a Z-strength speed boost without the limitation of it being once per race. If he gave the girl an inch, she would take a mile.

Seeing the Bayleef in front of her weaving around the rainbow-colored Pit Zone, the opportunistic Shalin shouted toward Alicia Westfield and her Bayleef, "Don't think I haven't forgotten about my word!" She wasn't kidding, either; the glitch hunter, perched on the Pheromosa's wing, leaned into the wind. "Nymris, AGILITY!" she ordered, bracing herself for the worst.
The Ultra Beast's strides were so rapid that to those who had their framerates set lower, it may have looked like he had just a few frames of animation. To those with higher framerates, his spindly legs were a blur, not unlike a PokĂŠmon's would appear while using the move Extreme Speed. With every dip in the course, she could feel her gut rising toward her throat; with every incline, she could feel it slamming toward her rear. Paralyzed from the surreal sustained speed, all she could do was lean as low as possible to avoid being blown off the wing and suffering a similar fate to her friend.

Why did he have a feeling that everyone was literally going to release their hold on the gas pedal on the next round?
Might as well put as much distance as he could between everyone else who was behind him!
âAlright, letâs get this pedal on the metal! Letâs go fast!â he would cheer the Onix onward; which was the sign for the dual-type to use Rock Polish to start gaining speed!
However, the question wasâhow fast and how far were they going to get, all things considering that the next lap was the last one?!

Asper Cup: Thunder Road
NEW AUDIO: Osc-Sync Carnival
As the grueling challenge continued on, many racers began to realize the importance of pacing. Particularly Alicia Westfield and her BAYLEEF, the grass-type coming off the high of a MIRAIDON's speed burst. Sensing her starter's lethargy, the Gardener reined her toward the energizing strip... briefly falling off her mount.
After a pep talk, she was back in the saddle, but not before losing position to ACE SHEEKE's CHARIZARD and Shalin Nariya 's PHEROMOSA. The two fiercely battled along the inside, every spurt of AGILITY matched by a purple tail flame fueling the fire-type's DRAGON DANCE.
Upon seeing the blinking-red ERON IUNIS and his tired ABSOL wisely utilizing the winding strip to recover, those behind him made their moves. Altair 's ONIX utilized ROCK POLISH to slide down the backs of hills while lunging up their fronts, while ARAVAN ESCHER's KYOGRE continued to swish its AQUA TAIL vigorously. A skillful exit left the two in front of Alkaid 's CELESTEELA by several lengths,.
As the rest of the field rounded the final corners well behind Josh Devlin and his ZEBSTRIKA in peak form, a waving white flag would show up on the top of their HUDs. It was an indication that this was the last circuit around the track. In the run-up to the start of the final lap, the BLUE ORB secured in front of the saddle ARAVAN ESCHER was seated in began glowing a deep azure...
FINAL LAP | OBSTACLE 1
Prompt: After a long straightaway meant to build speed was an uphill, semi-blind, right-angle left turn. Even PokĂŠmon that were tall enough to see over the hill might find the curve a challenge; with its slope being level instead of rounded, it would be quite easy to slip both entering and exiting the turn. Faster PokĂŠmon might need to ease off their high-end top speeds to avoid a nasty impact. Competitors needed to be ready for more right-angle turns afterward, only having a second or two to get into position for them!
Target Number: 120 (Reaction)
Special: PokĂŠmon do not apply ranks in Speed to this Obstacle.

Crackling with energy from Tikaniâs recovery Drift, Alicia cracked a smirk of her own. Everything may have hurt, but with the surge the Bayleef was experiencing⌠She had a feeling they were about to get right back into this. âAlicia⌠please, no matter what, tell me if you canât take any moreâŚâ Tikani called back to her, risking a glance back. âIâm still strong.â Alicia assured, grinning. âSo letâs win this.âââŚâ Tikani went quiet, refocusing on the track ahead. How much would her partner try to hide from her, thoughâŚ? She could tell Alicia was in pain from this now. She had seen what the lightning of her full force Electro Drift had done... Did she have to fear losing her partner, the way she herself was once lostâŚ? In any case, while they were now in the back half of the front runners, Aliciaâs fall hadnât actually left them that far behind their opponents. This was recoverable, especially given what she saw coming up. While Shalin and Nymris were likely to whip through with nary a concern⌠there was a chance that Josh and Ace were going to lose time here. Lightning crackled. The Bayleef felt her trainer pressing close to her back. Trusting her with navigating what was coming up. The humanâs reaction speed, while great in its own right, didnât hold a candle to what Tikani had now. It would be insufficient for the half-blind turns coming, and so Alicia let the reins slacken. She focused entirely on staying seated. Time itself seemed to slow as the Bayleef tapped the electrifying power again. Not to surge, this was not the time. But to enhance her reflexes and cognitive speed. Extending one or two seconds into twenty, thirty, or even more. Plenty of time to look the situations she was in over, catalogue the information, and run through her options mentally. To others, it might seem that Tikani would have prior knowledge of this segment of course. The Bayleef moved, skidding into each turn and kicking off. She cut lines that strayed extremely close to the inside corners of the turns. Twisting herself through the winding path like a professional. Sacrificing almost nothing in both speed and control. If the camera were to zoom in on them in these moments, they might have seen the Bayleefâs eyes hum and glow with electricity while flicking almost wildly over every pertinent detail she was presented. A hint of the effect that was actually letting her cut such corners and charge through at nearly her top speed. âââââââââââââââââââââââ ROLL RESULT: 182 -40 to target [Reaction Obstacle/2 ranks] {Entrant}Pokemon: Tikani (BAYLEEF)

This was it. Shalin was in a duel with the fire-type dragon for what was effectively first place. Josh Devlin and his speeding Zebstrika seemed almost unreachable, but they would have a good guide to follow. With how long their trail of sparks were, the glitch hunter could use them as a guideline of when to start turning. It would make the blind turn just a bit easier, and she needed all the help she could get.
The heat from being near the Kindler and his Charizard was starting to impair her own reaction time, and her mount's frame blinking red was starting to get distracting. Compensating for her Pheromosa's stronger turning, Shalin gave Nymris' left antenna a tug later than the leader did. With good timing, would attempt to pull away from the Charizard and get into a more open part of the course. If she could get out of traffic, she felt her second place position would hold!

Josh and Raiden had a clear lead going into the final lap. They could coast through most of the final lap and bask in the glory of the checkered flag, if they desired. Having played and mastered a variety of racing games, including a series that advertised itself as the fastest in the galaxy, merely winning was not enough for him. He wanted to humiliate the field. "HYPERSONIC..."
Rings of white Z-POWER formed around Josh's Z-GLOVE and his mount's hooves, putting his complete trust in Raiden. He set the horse's reins down and spread his arms at a wide angle.
"...PLASMA CHARGE!!!"
He grabbed the reins once more not a moment too soon, the Z-Energy the duo had built up releasing itself in a Z-MOVE: BREAKNECK BLITZ that felt like a cheat code in the brief time it lasted. It was as though Josh didn't even need to steer the horse; Raiden seemed to follow the course on his own, without any input from his rider, and at whiplash-inducing speeds at that. After exiting the turn, a cone of air surrounded the speed demon. Only his newly-obtained BOLTER class let him withstand the fastest PokĂŠmon move an ordinary PokĂŠmon could learn.

âWeâre not too far now, but⌠you know?â he would begin, looking down at the Onixâs rocky head while hanging onto the head horn for deer fucking life.
âWe did our best. Sorry if I fucked up somewhere.â
He would continue squinting out at the horizon; before realizing that this was going to be the last lapâmaybe now was the best time to let loose?
âAlright, no more brakes, letâs fucking go!â he would cheer the Onix on.
âStep on the gas, now!â he continued; before feeling his center of gravity shift and suddenly speed up as the Onix then chained their movements into a sudden burst of Rock Polish!

Asper Cup: Thunder Road
Audio: Osc-Sync Carnival - Final Lap
A white flag waved beneath the lap indicator on the HUDs of all racers: a continuous indication that it was crunch time. The last time around the long and challenging course. The curves shaped like lightning were little trouble for the field, having had two laps to get used to them. They were steadily making up time on Josh Devlin , cutting into his lead one hundredth at a time.
Altair and Alkaid , both feeling the pressure after landing from the course's first jump, were poised to make moves. The redhead's CELESTEELA, disconnected from their trainer, fired their AUTOTOMIZED thrusters a bit too hot. Even with a perfectly-timed turn, the Ultra Beast was simply going too fast, bouncing off the guardrail harshly and rocking their rider. The move Altair 's ONIX made was more deliberate, recklessly dashing ahead on a perfectly smooth, ROCK POLISHED underside.
He couldn't have picked a worse time to floor it.
At the speed they hurtled ahead, no amount of agility, barring a Z-Move, would let them avoid an earthquake-like impact with the outer rail. Had it not been for the rock-type's reflexes, latching on with his tail, the Sky Trainer would have tumbled off the course completely. Even so, the consequences of his foolhardy move were dire; the ONIX began to flash red, their breathing growing more laborious in the last half-lap.
In almost perfect unison, ACE SHEEKE and ERON IUNIS raised their MEGA ACCESSORIES skyward, their PokĂŠmon simultaneously MEGA EVOLVING. The fiery racer's dragon, in their apex form, boasted a much more limber body, with elongated wings and tail that let them make buttery smooth turns compared to the clumsy flight they had before. The white-haired competitor's ABSOL sprouted wings along their shoulders. While they could not use them to fly, they did improve the PokĂŠmon's overall racing performance.
Seeing his rivals make their moves, ARAVAN ESCHER took one hand off his KYOGRE's reins to raise his BLUE ORB above his head. The legendary PokĂŠmon glowed a much deeper blue, the field from front to back able to feel a wave of horrific energy pass through them amidst the leviathan's PRIMAL REVERSION. With a much stronger tail, the creature could turn on a dime, the oceanographer hurled to the right side of his saddle in a nearly consciousness-robbing motion. All three of the transformed PokĂŠmon whizzed past Shalin Nariya , though there was still a great distance between her and Altair behind her. She would be able to feel the rumbling and shaking of her unusual, glitched mount's wings, and at one of the worst possible times, too.
The MEGA EVOLVED PokĂŠmon served as a further incentive for Alicia Westfield and her BAYLEEF to remain strong. The whites of their eyes glowed yellow with electricity, making it appear as though the female rider was a BOLTER. With superb reaction time, she was able to cut ERON IUNIS off, preventing him from passing her.
As Josh Devlin and his ZEBSTRIKA zoomed around the blind curve with fluid grace and precision, an announcer sound bite echoed from all around him:
"POUR IT ON! YOU'RE WAY OUT IN FRONT!"
Little did he know how much of a curse trying to blow away the rest of the field would be... for what racing title was without rubberband mechanics? All seven of the racers behind him would find themselves filled with vim and vigor down the home stretch...
FINAL LAP | OBSTACLE 2
Prompt: In the waning seconds of the race, the course's final true challenge was before the competition. After one last chance to pit seconds earlier, the course takes a sharp, flat left that almost certainly requires braking to navigate successfully. Immediately after that is a section of wavy road. Unlike the pit area, these waves are uneven, higher on one side than the other. Even the course itself is tilted at an angle, making it easy to slip and fall into the rail!
Target Number: 170 (Reaction)
Special: PokĂŠmon also apply half their Ranks in Endurance (no rounding) to this Obstacle. TP gained on this Obstacle is increased by 25%, rounded up, per racer that is in front of them.

The crackling bursts of multiple Mega Evolutions made Aliciaâs eyes widen. And she chanced a look back, gulping audibly. Eron, Ace, and Aravan were all hot on hers and Tikaniâs heels. The white-haired riderâs mount was practically nipping at them! It was only Tikaniâs near precognitive reflex that kept the Mega Absol from passing them right then and there. But that wouldnât last forever if they couldnât keep up the pace. And Joshâs use of a Z-Move at this instant made her curse, she was hoping that last obstacle was going to twist him up somewhat. But with the overwhelmingly powerful speed boost, he was able to simply disregard the obstacleâs difficulty. He was far enough ahead that her only remaining hope of a first place finish was for him to be tripped up by something, anything coming up. Unfortunately, Tikani now couldnât afford to keep the speed going. Sharpened reflexes only mattered when physics actually allowed one to make the turn at speed. The turn that came up simply didnât allow that, forcing Tikani to skid harshly as she tried to bleed off enough speed to avoid a potentially devastating crash. Though the surge of vigor helped her get back up to speed, her mass was enough that it took her more to get going than most. Mindful of her own waning strength, Tikani was forced to take things slower than sheâd desired. But as she did, she crackled one more time. The final dash was moments away. And she had enough âgas in the tankâ for one more powerful Drift⌠It had to be enough. After all theyâd dealt with, Tikani was determined to make it be enough. âââââââââââââââââââââââ ROLL RESULT: 115 [RESULT: 75 + 40 Speed/4 ranks] -40 to target [Reaction Obstacle/2 ranks] - 20 to target [SPECIAL Endurance/2 ranks HALF] Pokemon: Tikani (BAYLEEF)

Are⌠are you kidding me?
From what he thought was a perfectly-executed jump over the obstacle and hopefully propelling themselves into âmanifest destinyâ, sadly the exact fucking opposite happened!
âWHOA!â he yelped; very nearly getting thrown off had he not been holding on like a madman onto the Onixâs head horn.
âGee, this place is absolutely fucked up,â he would growl, hanging on by an arm in mid-air before forcing himself to use his arm as leverage and swing around to get back on âsolid groundâ, a.k.a. the top of the Onixâs head.
âGuess that was not the right time to do⌠are you kidding me?!â he would yell a few moments later.
His original plan was to boost on every single stage of this lap, but the fact he was down one Speed boost now threw a colossal-sized monkey wrench into his plans!
(Why couldnât he masterâoh, thatâs right, Aviator he may be, he was not riding a Flying-type mount, which was why. Maybe if heâd entered with a Flying-type mount then everyone would tremble in fear at the sight of him fully âairborneâ and on his preferred mount of choice.)
âNuts,â he would grumble a few moments later, before squaring his shoulders.
âWell⌠letâs just get on with it.â
And they would continue from where they had left off.

Nymris couldn't have picked a worse time to start buzzing Shalin. Unable to see thanks to the fluttering wings, the Beta Tester had no idea how to time her turn. "Why now?" she thought as her surroundings disappeared into a sea of black, yellow, and amber, with hints of green, blue, and white from Alicia Westfield and the MEGA EVOLVED PokĂŠmon in front of her.
Doing her best to approximate the time it would have taken her to get to the start of the curve from what she could remember, the explorer began counting in her head. At the end of her count, she yanked left on the Pheromosa's left antenna and mentally crossed her fingers. What would normally have been a simple turn for him came down to whether fortune smiled upon her.
