Meandering around THE THUNDERWORKS were a series of metallic crossways once used to traverse the power station before its operation became run largely by machines. Since then, the concourse had been converted into a course for the most daring to compete upon. Having discovered them in recent months while on the hunt for a Ponyta, it was the perfect place for a high-octane Pokémon race. Though the thunderclouds blocked much of the locale's sunlight, lightning flashed so frequently that the course was bright as day.
Discovery> A new Scenario has been discovered! ASPER CUP: Thunder Road
Featuring right-angle turns, ramps, high jumps, and narrow passes, the course would test the mettle of anyone who challenged it, from beginner to expert. Having practiced with Raiden, his Zebstrika, on the Surge Steppes, the blonde was ready for his first truly fast run on the electric horse. And what a place to do it, against a potential field of a dozen or more racers! Releasing Raiden from his Poké Ball, Josh scurried into the saddle and spurred him into a run. His time trial would be denied by a red pop-up right in the middle of his field of vision:
Error> Light Party required. A minimum of four characters must be in your party to proceed.
Disappointed that practice would not be allowed, Josh went on global event chat in UNOVR's servers and posted the discovery of THUNDER ROAD.
I'm at the Thunderworks at the back of the Surge Steppes. There's this sick looking race track out here, and I'd love to organize a friendly Pokémon race. You have to be able to sit on your Pokémon - no carts or other vehicles! Can I get any takers? We need at least four racers for it to fire. Tagging some potentially interested parties: Altair Alicia Westfield Aero . WHAT TO EXPECTThis thread will fulfill the requirements of entering a Pokémon race for the BOLTER subclass, while providing an experience that is intended to mirror the high-octane gameplay of a futuristic racing game such as Wipeout or F-Zero.
To prepare for the Scenario, you must register a single Pokémon that your character can ride on, whether on land or in the air. Characters actively using the SWIMMER class may enter aquatic Pokémon into the race.
Once the registration deadline has passed, your Pokémon's choices will be locked in and static; you may not upgrade mid-thread. It is strongly recommended, but not required, that your Pokémon has a move that can be reasonably used to put on a burst of speed. Such moves include, but are not limited to: moves that raise Speed, moves that raise Evasion, and Priority moves. Creativity is encouraged! If you have any questions, ping or DM RaikouRider on Discord.
The first round will not require rolling, but future rounds will. Simply post your introduction, and include your Pokémon in a SPOILER TAG in your post notes.
This Scenario is expected to last approximately eleven weeks. Expect mod posts WEEKLY when applicable. Deadlines will be strict to keep the Scenario moving. If all characters post early, I reserve the right to make a mod post prior to the deadline. The first round and the final round will be purely social rounds, while the nine rounds in between will each feature a challenge to overcome.
This Scenario will use dice rolls and mechanics that are largely independent from site systems. Using a Pokémon with higher Rarity will not impact the outcome of the race. Pokémon that can Mega Evolve or that can use a Z-Move may have a slight advantage over those that cannot.
THERE IS A SMALL CHANCE that racers could be ELIMINATED from the competition before the finish line. If your character is eliminated early, they will still be permitted to post from the sidelines, but are not required to do so to receive event participation rewards.
Signups will be open until July 8 at 11:59 PM CDT. Josh Devlin will be participating in the Scenario. If there are not at least four signups by the deadline, signups will be extended until four characters, including Josh Devlin , have registered. I will not be able to start the Scenario early, for I will be traveling out of state the week before signups close. Signups will tentatively be uncapped, but please mind your ability to post within somewhat tight deadlines. I reserve the right to ask players to limit the number of characters they sign up with if the roster gets large.
There will be no set posting order.
Please include a TL;DR in your post notes summarizing your character's important actions.
Characters that miss multiple posting rounds risk being DISQUALIFIED FROM THE RACE.
Further directions for each round of the Scenario will be listed within each mod post.
All participants will receive a strand of ZAPDOS DNA at the completion of the Scenario. RACING MECHANICS
Please note that this section is written more in the style of a reference document. Though there is a lot here, it is meant to be comprehensive.
{OVERVIEW}The ASPER CUP will be heavily using DICE ROLLS to determine outcomes. Pokémon types will have no bearing on the outcome of the race. For each round with an Obstacle, before you post, you will need to post in the STORY MODE ROLLING THREAD with the following items: 1) The Obstacle's number (provided in the mod post) 2) Your Pokémon 3) Any actions your Pokémon is taking (Using a move, Mega Evolution, etc.) 4) The appropriate dice roll, usually 2d100 As you make your IC post, you will need provide a link to your roll in your post notes. If you make a mistake, please let me know as soon as possible, and I will compromise on a solution. Abuse of this system will lead to your character's DISQUALIFICATION WITHOUT PRIZE. The guidelines have been designed so that players can make informed decisions and understand how the race will be moderated FAIRLY AND CONSISTENTLY. Additionally, balancing is still a work-in-progress and there may be imperfections. Data used from this race will be used to make tweaks for future races, if there is interest.
{ASPER CUP GENERAL RULES} PLEASE HEED the following rules below: - While Pokémon moves can be used in creative ways mid-race, attacking or otherwise sabotaging other racers is PROHIBITED. - Teleportation and portals are PROHIBITED in all races. - Pokémon that land outside the course's bounds (outside the concourse, etc.) will be DISQUALIFIED. - Mega Evolution and Z-Moves may be used ONCE EACH during the race. You MAY NOT overlap their use. - Moves such as Quick Attack, Agility, Double Team, etc. that raise Speed, Evasion, or otherwise could reasonably subject the user to a burst of speed MAY NOT BE USED DURING THE FIRST LAP (the first three Obstacles). These will be collectively referred to as "Boost moves". - Racers who miss a posting round will have their rolls for the round made by the Moderator, with no Boost being used (if applicable). This roll will be completed by the Moderator in the STORY MODE ROLLING THREAD. Racers who miss a second posting round will receive a roll of 2 for that round. Racers who miss a third posting round will be DISQUALIFIED WITHOUT PRIZE.
{RACING PARAMETERS}Pokémon will be ranked in three skills. Each Pokémon will have a total of 8 ranks to distribute into them, with no more than 5 ranks in any one skill. The player determines this distribution at sign-up, and can be changed at any time prior to the sign-up deadline. Once the sign-up deadline has passed, these distributions will be locked in. The three skills are listed below:
Each Pokémon will be ranked in the above three skills on a scale of E, D, C, B, A, and S, where E is the worst and S is the best. Each rank buys one letter grade.
{SCORING}RACERS' POSITION WILL BE TRACKED using a Track Point system. For more details on how scoring relates to the race structure, see the section below.
AT THE END OF EVERY OBSTACLE, the Obstacle's Target Number, including modifiers from Endurance or Reaction ranks, is subtracted from the player's roll, including modifiers from Speed ranks and any Special modifiers that apply from the Obstacle itself. If the difference is a positive number, that many Track Points are added to the player's score. If this difference is negative, twice that many Track Points are deducted from the player's score. Total scores can be negative.
100 TRACK POINTS corresponds to roughly one second of time differential ICly.
{BOOSTING AND GIMMICKS}Each Pokémon will be able to use Boost moves a number of times equal to its number of ranks in Endurance, plus one. (This is a change from events run on other forums using this system.)
After the first lap has been completed, Boost moves will be permitted. Please note that the use of MEGA EVOLUTION is not considered Boosting, and may be used on the first lap.
Boosting during a Speed-based Obstacle will allow the player to roll with ADVANTAGE, making four rolls instead of two and applying the two highest rolls.
Boosting during a Reaction or Endurance-based Obstacle will impose DISADVANTAGE, making four rolls instead of two and applying the two lowest rolls. If this roll still passes the Obstacle, calculations for Track Points gained will use the highest two rolls instead.
At the cost of one use of Boost, a Pokémon that can MEGA EVOLVE may do so mid-race. Mega Evolution will last for three Obstacles, and will grant the user three temporary Ranks in Speed, Endurance, and/or Reaction, divided as the user sees fit. This may cause total Ranks in a single stat to exceed 5, but not exceed 6. This may be used concurrently with a normal Boost, if the user has sufficient Boost uses available.
At the cost of two uses of Boost, a Pokémon that knows a Z-Move that can reasonably be used as an extreme burst of speed can use that Z-Move. The user will NOT roll for the current Obstacle, and instead will receive an automatic roll of 200, the maximum possible roll, for that Obstacle. A Z-Move may not be used on the first lap.
You may perform Mega Evolution and a Z-Move ONCE EACH during a race. You MAY NOT overlap their use with one another; you must wait for one to run out before using another.
{RACE STRUCTURE}Each player will be required to ROLL 2d100 in the STORY MODE ROLLING THREAD and link to their roll in their IC post. The sum is noted, then modified according to the Pokémon’s skills. At the start of the race, the Moderator will post the first course OBSTACLE: a prompt that presents a challenge for the racers to overcome. There will be one obstacle per posting round. Each obstacle will list the following information: - TARGET NUMBER: This is the number the racers need to roll at or above to overcome the obstacle without penalty. By default, a racer will lose 2 Track Points per point the Target Number is missed by. It is uncommon, but Obstacles can have multiple Target Numbers. - INTENDED SKILL: This is the skill that will overcome the Obstacle (Speed, Endurance, or Reaction). - SPECIAL: Some Obstacles may favor certain kinds of Pokémon and/or carry penalties beyond loss of position. Any deviations from standard procedure while resolving Obstacles will be noted here. Conditions that risk a racer to be removed from the race completely will be marked in red. AFTER EACH OBSTACLE, a graphic showing teams' current position, time differential, and remaining Boosts will be shown. A text-table version of the standings will also be posted for accessibility purposes. AFTER NINE OBSTACLES, players' total Track Points will determine finishing order. Ties will be broken by a roll-off in the STORY MODE ROLLING THREAD.
{SAMPLE OBSTACLE} Prompt: The track starts out with a bang--a sharp, 135-degree left turn mere tens of meters from the starting line. The width of the turn itself makes recovering from a misjudged angle easier, but the track quickly narrows up again afterward. A guardrail on the outside keeps Pokémon from sliding off the course, but there is no such guardrail on the inside, and there’s a shallow stream that looks time-consuming for Pokémon to climb out of!
Target Number: 130 (Reaction)
Special: If the roll misses the Target Number by more than 30, an additional 2 Track Points are deducted for each point in excess of 30 the Target Number was missed by.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to RAIKOURIDER on Discord! I have been running and refining this racing system on various forums for the better part of a decade, and can answer any questions you may have.

Alicia could only chuckle as she noticed the new message in the chat. Leave it to the speed demon to find a race track that hadn’t been used in who knew how long. And then she double-took, noticing that Josh had tagged her specifically. … She had expressed interest in trying such a thing out before, now that she thought about it… ”See something funny?” Tikani asked curiously, smiling. ”Josh is being very… Josh.” Alicia replied. ”Ahuh. Going to take him up on it?” the Bayleef continued. ”Don’t know. Things have gotten a little complicated since then.” the would-be hero sighed out, looking up to the sky. ”If there’s enough of a turnout, I can’t think of a better place to… show off.” Tikani noted, letting sparks play across her leaves. Alicia’s skin tingled at the proximity. But she couldn’t deny that Tikani had a point. A big race would be the perfect place to put a positive spin on the results of her work in the Everworld. As amazing as it was, she hadn’t ever intended to use it openly without very good reason. She still felt a bit of emotional sting because of what had to happen to pave that road in the first place. ”Take Ronda up there first, wouldn’t do to ruin the surprise so quickly.” her starter advised. She knew she needed to do a bit of prep before hand. Which did require her to log out for a brief moment. But soon enough she’d be back in. And then, in short order, the Cyclizar would be released. Recalling Tikani for the moment, she had Ronda gun it for speed and tore off for the Thunderworks. Of course, she didn’t want to give any mistaken impressions on who she was bringing. So she brought her draconic ride to a stop before anyone could see her. Recalling the Cyclizar, she walked the rest of the way. ”Somehow I’m not surprised it was you who stumbled across something like this.” Alicia noted with a wave to the scout. ——————————————————————— {Entrant}Pokemon: Tikani (BAYLEEF)

Receiving the notice of a Pokémon race on global chat, as well as overhearing it from Josh Devlin in the Drowned Harbor, Shalin did some legwork. It would be in a distanc corner of the Surge Steppes: the metal walkways surrounding the power plant complex known as the Thunderworks. Having unlocked the Beta Tester class recently, this would be her first time putting it to true use.
Shalin clicked open the Poké Ball containing Nymris, her Pheromosa from the Drowned Harbor, unaware that she might have major issues controlling him. She was aware that they could not communicate verbally, but she didn't have to do that. Alicia Westfield and Josh Devlin , if they were watching, may have wondered how Shalin was going to enter such a spindly creature in a Pokémon race? It didn't look like he could even carry her bridal style. Even if he could, it had to be incredibly uncomfortable.
Unbeknownst to her, she had cracked the code she had been looking to bust wide open.
As she touched Nymris, the bug-type began to kick like he was in combat, in every direction other than Shalin's. She waved both her hands downward in an effort to get the erratic Ultra Beast to calm down. After a RAPID SPIN, he did as his trainer gestured. She stood next to the giant bug like one would mount a Pokémon. Resting her hands upon his long wings, a white saddle appeared around halfway down one of them. Sitting in it, the wing was somehow able to support her! It didn't look quite properly attached, the edges of the saddle jutting out over the wing, but it appeared to be functional! In an even more bizarre fashion, she grabbed the bug-type's lengthy antennae, holding them as though they were reins.
The sensation was as alien as the Ultra Beast she rode upon.
"Ready to race, you two?" she gestured toward her two friends.

The field began to fill as Alicia Westfield showed up at the course illuminated artificially by the power plant's lighting system, as well as naturally by the frequent flashes of lightning. Raiden loved it; his mane strobed between yellow and white fast enough to trigger anti-seizure smoothing. With how nasty the weather was, this was the first time he could let loose and go truly fast. Having trained with Goroh some made Josh used to the higher speeds, too. This would be their first real test of whether the scout had the core strength to zip and zoom across a course for minutes at a time. He reined the electric horse to a stop near where the entrants were gathering.
"Lookin' mighty fine there!" Josh replied to Alicia Westfield , glancing toward Ronda. He knew full well the kind of speed a Cyclizar could put on, both from the Arena and from his own training. They would ironically be easier to follow the motions of on this course, due to both of them going fast together. Strangely enough, despite parts of the course being made out of mesh, the floor hitbox was completely solid, as far as he could tell. "Of course it was me. You should be happy I haven't tracked down a Raikou yet. One of these days, Alicia, I'll race you with a Raikou."
His eyes shifted toward Shalin Nariya in utter disbelief. She had so many questions for the glitch hunter, but could not bring himself to approach her. "...I'm completely confused. How is she even doing that?" he asked Alicia. "And how is she not just going to black out from even lowered pain thresholds? The moment that wing vibrates..." he trailed off before stammering incoherently.

Okay, normally—when one thought of the player named ‘Altair’, the first thing that would come to mind would be Water and Flying-type Pokémon…
So how come, in all the deities of Eorzea, was there an Onix rumbling up towards where the ‘race track’ had been sighted?
And riding atop said Onix, which granted him an eagle-eyed view of some part of the race course was—
“Hey!” he would call out, standing up once the Onix had come rumbling to a stop. If Alicia would notice, this was definitely the same Onix they’d gotten from the Tower of Worms, all things aside.
“I saw the message, so here I am. This is crazy, you know?” he cackled, as the Onix then lowered themselves enough for him to slide down from the Rock-type’s back and find himself on the ground—huh, he was in the company of people he all knew?
Well, there would definitely be room for trash-talking!
“So. It’s just us crazy people out here going to do some even crazier shit, huh?” he blinked.

So, apparently he wasn’t the only idiot entering with a…
[tangent=“Stop making that noise!”]“Smettila di fare quel rumore!”[/tangent] he exclaimed as the single largest… entrant of the race so far would come flying in—or well, glitching in would be the more appropriate description because he was riding a fucking Celesteela of all things, and then there was the warning of bringing these particular beasts outside of Ostellia…
[tangent=“Why are you acting up like this now,”]“Perché ti comporti così adesso,”[/tangent] he sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose and realized that… well, the two idiots he’d encountered (one in the tutorial area, and another out in the glitch areas) were here.
“Mamma mia,” he continued as he resisted the urge to smack not just one, but both palms to his forehead as he came jumping down from the gigantic rocketship’s back…
“Yeah. Sorry. She was the only one I could wrangle up in time… but I can tell this is going to be going in with a slight disadvantage,” he began by way of introduction.

Alicia hummed softly as she looked around. A couple others were turning up. Altair with the Onix he got from their time in the legacy Worm Tree. She gave him a wave and chuckled. ”I was going to say I was the craziest of us all for my choice. But then she rolled up.” the Gardener commented, pointing a thumb to Shalin.
Then there was another individual hollering in… Italian? Thanks to a certain plumber, ‘Mamma mia’ was pretty strongly associated with Italian speech in her head. She’d have to ask him later. Assuming he could speak English. At least, she was pretty confident he could speak- and there’s the confirmation. ”I wish you good luck. At least your Celesteela isn’t trying to murder everything? Venex gets stabby I’ve found out…”
And then there was Shalin herself. What in Arceus’ name was she thinking? That thing couldn’t carry- … the nut job did it. She only went and freaking did it. ”Please don’t blow things up, I’m enjoying my time here…”
And by this point, unless they were about to have a sudden upswing in entrants, it was about to time to show who she was really going to be using. Likely to Josh’s, and maybe Shalin’s, shock she would recall her Cyclizar and bring out Tikani.
”Is it almost time…?” the Bayleef asked as Alicia mounted up on her back.
”I think so, my friend. I think so.” Alicia replied with a knowing smirk.

Asper Cup: Thunder Road
Audio: Osc-Sync Carnival
As the five racers conversed amongst themselves, Shalin Nariya 's PHEROMOSA in particular drawing their attention, three more competitors rode toward them, making quite the entrance at that. First was a platinum-haired, pale-skinned, short teen holding the reins of an ABSOL. Second was a tall man that towered over even Josh Devlin , seated on the back of a mean-looking CHARIZARD. Looking like a stereotypical high school bully, he looked like he was taking the race way too seriously. Last, and most intimidating of all, was a blue-haired young man that proactively introduced himself. He would have been the most approachable of the three were it not for his TINY SEAL KYOGRE steed. Even with the size-reducing item, the Sea Basin Pokémon was still big.
"Aravan Escher. It's a pleasure for Poseidon and I to meet you all." His attention would be fixated upon Alicia Westfield 's BAYLEEF. He had seen the CYCLIZAR she had withdrawn and was curious as to why she would use the grass-type over a dragon known for speed and ease of control, but kept his thoughts to himself. The red-head gave Alkaid and Altair a dismissive side-eye.
Were the other racers to select the other two last-minute entrants and load their profiles, they would find their names to be ERON IUNIS and ACE SHEEKE. Anyone who approached and addressed the platinum-haired teen would be greeted with only a wave. Was he shy about being on camera? The race was being broadcast on in-game sports services, after all.
After having some time to exchange pleasantries with one another, a prompt would guide the eight racers, their Pokémon tightly, but not uncomfortably, filling the width of the starting line. Their starting positions were randomly determined, though the difference in time from being on the left versus the right would be negligible. If the prompt was not heeded in the allotted time, those who registered would find themselves teleported to the starting line.
Once the group of eight had aseembled, their HUDs would change modes. While Pokémon health would still be prominently visible, racers would be able to see other important information, such as position, race time, lap time, a mini-map, and a speedometer. An artistic banner of the area would fade into the center of their eyesight, showing the course's name, difficulty, and record alongside an adrenaline-pumping fanfare.
THUNDERWORKS Thunder Road Difficulty: ★★★★★☆ COURSE RECORD: 06'17"332
Once all eight racers had given a ready signal, the countdown would be on!

Shalin noticed the Onix that Altair was astride, remembering getting hers from the Tower of Worms they had challenged together. "It's as crazy as you want to make it out to be," the girl atop the Pheromosa's wing answered. "I'm a little concerned about the course's difficulty rating...it might be a small miracle if we finish. If we do this again, maybe we should look for a course that's a bit easier... or even make one ourselves. What's stopping us from doing that?"
Organization, that's what. It would take a lot of organization and resources to put together even a rudimentary track, let alone this one built into the metallic spans of a power plant.
Shalin waved toward Alkaid and his giant, fast-looking ride. "Slick mount you've got there!" she greeted, seeing just how many exhaust pipes were built into the Celesteela's tail. "I bet no one's stopping you on the straightaways!" One concern when controlling a Pokémon like that, at least of the extent to which an Invasive Species could be controlled, was the extreme speeds of their explosive thrusters would make turning difficult. With how sharp some of the turns were, maintaining control might be a challenge for a Celesteela.
Alicia Westfield seemed to be either teasing Shalin for her choice of steed, or was genuinely concerned. "How is Nymris going to blow things up?" she asked. "I don't think Pheromosa can learn any explo--"
Briefly losing control of her Pheromosa, Shalin let out a distorted squeal as Nymris' wings silently fluttered. The world seemed to split into two, the girl quickly reaching the maximum feedback her reduced thresholds would allow. To those watching her, it looked like they were multiple illusory copies of her from how fast the wings were flapping. For the few seconds the wild ride lasted, she looked like she was in heaven, squinting and smiling wider than any human face had the right to. "Wow, that's fast!" she exhaled, regaining her focus for the countdown that would be starting any moment...

The strange, high-pitched whistling noise would continue, and all he could do was sigh.
[tangent=“Looks like we’re in for some trouble,”]“Sembra che avremo qualche problema,”[/tangent] he would continue quietly as his own strange ‘invasive species’ was glitching in and out of the picture. Man, who knew those warnings really meant to be heeded?!
(But what other choice did he have at the moment?)
Turning to one of the other entrants (Alicia Westfield) he would let out this noise of mirth for a few moments.
“Well, you hear that constant strange whistling noise? That’s the ‘glitch’ thing that my companion is making since, you know. Can’t take them out of Ostellia for some weird-ass reason that nobody really knows why it can’t be done.”
He could only hope that the Celesteela would listen to him since the ‘noise’ was going to get to him far longer before it annoyed pretty much everyone else.
He didn’t miss the side-eye, and instead gave the coldest glare he could muster before guiding his Celesteela to the starting line. Due to the sheer girth of his ‘mount’, he easily took up a rather sizable portion of the starting line; and all he could afford to the other racers (the ones he was familiar with, at least) was an apologetic look.

Moment he saw the teeny Kyogre, he would let out a whistle.
“Whew, looks like we’re not the only crazy people here! Don’t make it rain otherwise we’re all going to have visibility problems out here!” he continued in jest, gesturing towards the area in general—it really did remind him of a certain locale in a certain game where there was a certain side quest he absolutely detested due to the sheer stupidity of it.
(Read: avoiding lightning strikes 200 times in a row. All this for one Celestial Weapon upgrade.)
Thankfully, his Onix was lightning-resistant if shit hit the fan—thankfully. So maybe it was a good thing he entered with this Pokémon rather than whatever else he was planning—he was actually torn and he wanted a Gyarados so bad, but with their current location that wasn’t going to be too feasible for now.
Moment he spotted the Celesteela, though, he would let out another whistle—this time, of appreciation.
(And maybe envy?)
“Oh. Oh, shit. I may not have played past Kalos, but I want that. I want one of those…” he would trail off as he looked at the older man’s positively enormous mount.
However, why was there a constant whistling noise seemingly coming from it?
What the hell was up with that?

Alicia perked up a bit, nodding as a couple more individuals turned up. Including… someone with a Kyogre!? Well that was not a mon she was expecting to see turn up here! And it seemed Aravan had his own thoughts of surprise with her own choice. If he saw who she rolled up on, it made sense. No one in their right mind would pick a normal Bayleef over a Cyclizar. ”Cheers, Aravan! Showing off quite a bit there, hmm?”The Absol was a small surprise as well, but nothing anywhere close to the surprise the Kyogre had invoked. The Charizard was about the most normal extra that she could think of. She could tell that Eron was shy and nervous so she didn’t approach and possibly make things worse. She knew that kind of stage fright intimately. In fact, if it wasn’t for this persona she’d crafted for herself she imagined she would’ve wilted significantly at the thought of the race being broadcast. … She felt a little numb even despite that. And Tikani, sensing her trainer’s distress, raised a vine and wrapped it around Alicia’s wrist, giving a reassuring squeeze. The pinkette flashed a small smile, whispering, ”Thanks…”When Shalin mentioned the difficulty, she couldn’t help but nod in agreement. A hell of a start to what they were going to experience. It didn’t get too much harder from the looks of it. ”Logistics, access to suitable paving materials, manpower, and a number of other factors.” Alicia answered the glitch hunter’s question. ”But keep your wits about you and you might be surprised about how smoothly the course will go. Hand-eye coordination will be critical.”And then Shalin got buzzed. And not in the alcoholic sense either! Alicia’s set up, at least, was entirely unprepared for the audio rendering of Shalin’s squeal while Nymris’s wings fluttered, causing quite a bit of audio screech for her. To say nothing of the visuals. Shalin’s model and info window looked to be tennis balls with how de-synced they had become in the buzzing. The glitch hunter was at the crest of one part of the vibration, but the window that was supposed to stick to her was at the trough of the same, and they kept flipping places at a dizzying rate as the window kept trying to ‘snap’ to her new position. ”Ow. And I mean blow up the servers and crash the game.” Alicia commented after Nymris’ momentary spazz attack subsided. And then there was the Celesteela. Alicia winced a bit as the whistling note became more apparent. ”I see what you’re talking about now. It’s fine for me for now, but I imagine I’ll be sick of it by the time this race is done…”Heaving a sigh, Alicia gave Tikani a nudge, and they walked over to their assigned start position. The Bayleef’s leaves crackled in anticipation as Tikani took a readying breath and smiled. The looks on everyone’s faces when she kept pace, and maybe even outran, some of these other competitors was going to be glorious… ——————————————————————— {Entrant}Pokemon: Tikani (BAYLEEF)

The Kyogre was a shock to Josh for multiple reasons. First, the legendary sea behemoth was wearing a saddle. Josh could believe ordinary Pokémon wearing saddles, but the gods allowing themselves to be subject to the whims of their riders? It was at first a bit much for him to comprehend. Kyogre weren't known for their speed, but the creature was also legendary. Their parameters seemed to be on a whole different level. He couldn't underestimate Aravan. Even so, he would be remiss not to greet the Kyogre's rider.
"Great to meet you, Aravan," Josh waved, leaving the other two alone. Ace's Charizard was a reminder of what Ares was capable of becoming, though saddling one was a ways off... let alone any legendary. Aravan had to be one of the highest leveled characters in UNOVR. Had be been playing since the game's launch?
The Pheromosa's vibrations made Josh wince for Shalin's safety. He had so many questions. First, how did the wing not snap beneath her? Second, how did her body not turn to paste from the vibrations? The list went on. He would have a conversation with her about it at some point.
The Celesteela's whistling made Josh's skin tingle. With thrusters on its underside, the steel-type invasive species could move fast. "I... I feel really outclassed here. I thought Raiden was fast, but these Pokémon y'all have are something else." Their conversations would be cut short, though, as the signal to begin would be imminent, the mini-map, timer, and standings appearing on the sides of his HUD. The start of UNOVR's first race of the Asper Cup was imminent...

Asper Cup: Thunder Road
Audio: Osc-Sync Carnival
The eight Pokémon looked ready to run, swim, and fly about the winding course composed of dense, metallic mesh. There would be no danger of tripping on its holes, but it would be enough to let flashes from lightning through. ERON IUNIS and ARAVAN ESCHER looked worried for Shalin Nariya and Alkaid ; what were they thinking, using unreliable Invasive Species in such a competition? They both possessed amazing speed, but was it worth the price of control? In-game media outlets would certainly have questions for both of them, particularly Shalin Nariya after her PHEROMOSA buzzed her.
ARAVAN ESCHER's KYOGRE looked fierce, garnering a whistle from Altair , expressions of Josh Devlin 's self-perceived inadequacy, and some compliments from Alicia Westfield . "Poseidon just happens to be the fastest Pokémon I've got," the blue-haired oceanographer replied, the most talkative of the three last-minute signups. ACE SHEEKE looked focused, while ERON IUNIS clearly had nerves setting in. Perhaps he was unsure how well his ABSOL's stamina would hold up on such a long course. "Good luck to all of you, and may the best racer win."
Once the eight Pokémon were lined up, three still images of the legendary Pokémon Raikou, running at top speed, appeared on the starting arch's wide monitor. Behind them was an orange "GET READY" prompt, the competition tensing their legs to spur their mounts off the line at high speed. The first of the three depictions of Raikou began to fade alongside a loud squawk from the monitor's speakers. A second, then a third followed. When the final picture had completely faded, the prompt changed to a green "GO", with a longer-lasting, higher-pitched squawk an aural indicator that the race was starting. Timers ran and speedometers climbed on the racers' HUDs as hooves and paws pounded at the metallic passes, wings beating, tails swishing, and exhaust forming above it.
LAP 1 | OBSTACLE 1
Prompt: The opening thirty seconds of the course consisted of long straightaways ideal for getting up to speed, separated by four extremely wide, nearly right-angle turns: a left, followed by three rights. The sheer width of the course made it almost impossible to crash unless a racer deliberately tried, but it made rounding the corner ever more important; getting that far outside could cost entire seconds! The lane wouldn't be so wide forever, though; after the fourth turn, the course would narrow to three-wide! Better be close to the center of the track at the end!
Target Number: 0 (Speed)
Special: Each Pokémon will also apply half its Reaction ranks (no rounding) to this Obstacle as though they were additional ranks in Speed.

Alicia chuckled as she just caught Altair’s whistle and commentary about the Kyogre. She hadn’t even thought about that. Though now that she had, she was getting some flashbacks to a frustrating side quest as well. Little did she know, it was the same one Altair had in mind. But with that out of the way, Alicia took a steadying breath. Her Bayleef offer more silent reassurance, which brought a smile to the would be hero’s face. And then the count down began. ”Here goes!” Alicia called as the race was started. Much to Josh Devlin ‘s and other’s likely surprise, the Bayleef surged off the starting line. The last time the scout had seen Alicia ride Tikani, they had had trouble keeping up with Raiden’s casual speed. Sprinting had been required just to keep pace, to say nothing of how Raiden left them in the dust with lightning-aided Quick Attacks. Now? Now Tikani was much faster. Despite obviously not putting the metaphorical pedal all the way to the metal yet, the Bayleef had a velocity to her that was unheard of in the species as a whole. And if this was only a moderate effort from Alicia’s starter… did that mean she now outstripped the hero’s Cyclizar in speed? ——————————————————————— ROLL RESULT: 177 (77 [Result] + 40 [4 ranks in Speed] + 40 [Speed Obstacle/4 ranks] + 20 [SPECIAL: 2 ranks in Reaction halved]) {Entrant}Pokemon: Tikani (BAYLEEF)
