Since our Beta launch we've been hard at work adding, tweaking, and fixing. Patch 0.2 is all about quality of life improvements and getting the site running as smooth as Silcoon. You can check it out here!

Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

Not that he really needed them, but, well he just wanted them. Besides, maybe Bethany would get something else in stock at some point. He wasn’t quite sure what it was that he traded for this last time, other than ‘magic fox’ but that sounded pretty neat. Manish wandered through the jungle, a trail of mushrooms following behind him until he found his favorite spot to fish. It was quiet, secluded, and there was a convenient sunbeam to nap in. He set up his pole and then took out the new pokeball. No time like the present to meet his new pokemon. He pressed the button and with a flash, a little black fox appeared in front of him. “Oh. Oh wow, oh my, you’re uh, wow you’re really cute.” Manish said, crouching down next to the fox. The Zorua shook his head for a moment before staring deeply at Manish. “Um. Is uh, is everything okay? I’m uh, I’m Manish? You’re um, well, I guess I’m your trainer now if that’s okay with you?” With a small gasp, the Zorua kneeled down in front of Manish <I am Manish’s call to adventure!> “Uhhhh…I um, I don’t know what that means? But um, you don’t need to uh, kneel? I'd actually uh, well, really prefer it if you didn't? Please?” Oh man, Manish was not happy about this, the Zorua kneeling in front of him reminded of one of the nannies he had as a kid who would bow and always treated him like he was glass. <But you’re the chosen one!> The Zorua leapt up and bounded around Manish in joy. “Um, wow, uh, geeze no, no I’m really uh, not. I’m not chosen for anything. Please” Stress mushrooms were starting to form around Manish’s feet. <But you are! I know it. I’ve been waiting for you, you are going to free us all!> “Free…free you? Free you from what?” <From our chains of servitude! I am Manish’s beating heart, ready to guide you towards victory. Oh what an honor it is to be in your presence.> “Servitude? What? No, wait, no no no, I’m really really not who you think I am. Wait, servitude? So you don’t want to, uh, be a pokemon? Or, um, you don’t want a trainer?” <Of course I want you! You’re the chosen one.> “Again, I am super not chosen. For anything. I really think you got the wrong guy. I am just uh, you know, fishing?” Manish pointed to his fishing pole. <Ah! A fine quest to test my strength with! I understand, before you can accept me as Manish’s sense of justice, I must prove myself!> “Oh geeze, oh man, okay, no. I mean, well, if you want me to be your trainer, I will, but geeze, oh no, uh, no I’m really not anything special." The Zorua was about to start on another rant when the pole twitched. Both Manish and his new fox ran over to the pole.

He took a step back before glancing at the Zorua. “Do uh, look, I know that you want um, the liberation? Of pokemon? Um, but you don’t have to fight if you don’t want to.” <The chosen one is truly great…> “Not chosen.” <...For giving his loyal subjects…> “What? No, not loyal subjects!” <...A choice in their fights! The integrity! The honor!> Manish and the Magikarp shared a look while the Zorua went off on his rant. Manish could just sigh and shrug sadly at the fish. In commiseration the Magikarp gave a little flop before moving closer to the Zorua. “Um, does that mean you want to fight? Or?” <Yes! I will prove my worthiness!> Manish grimaced. “You really don’t need to…oh whatever. Um, okay, lemme see…Scratch?” <I am Manish’s claws! I am a tool for the chosen one's success!> “Please don’t.” Zorua dashed forward and jumped into the air, sharp claws popping out of his little paws as he descended on the Magikarp.

Zorua’s hit landed true and his claws sunk deep into the fish. <You are in the way of the chosen one’s mighty rise!> he screamed down at the confused fish. Manish tried to ignore the words, clearly there was no reasoning with the fox. His best hope was to get this fight done as quickly as possible and then maybe take a break or something. He didn’t need the pressure of being a chosen one, he was fairly certain that ‘chosen ones’ didn’t often have a happy ending. He just wanted a few friends, not to be a hero. “Um, uh, I don’t actually have a name for you? Uh, but uh, go ahead and use Fury Swipes?” <You’re blood will be the first noble sacrifice to the chosen one’s conquest! Be proud of such a destiny!> “Oh please don’t…oh. Oh no. Oh geeze you’re already tearing into it. Oh I think I’m gonna be sick.” Manish turned away and gagged while the Zorua let loose his claws into the held down Magikarp. He didn't know if blood was a feature of the game and he really didn't feel like finding out.

Did I do it? Did I earn my place by your side?> Manish stared down at the fox with a grimace. “You really didn’t need to do that, you uh, I would have kept you, um, regardless.” Zorua started jumping around Manish in joy. <I have been selected! I am on the path to glory!> Despite the very uncomfortable feeling in his stomach. Manish smiled at the fox. When he wasn’t going on mildly terrifying rants or attacking pokemon, he really was cute. “Um, hold on just a second. I have to catch the Magikarp.” <Wow! The chosen one taking a fallen enemy as his own! You will bring about our victory for sure!> Manish grimaced again and tapped a pokeball onto the ‘fallen’ Magikarp. “Okay, look, uh, I guess I should name you?” <A title given to me by the chosen one? An honor of the highest degree!> “Sure. Um, right. You kinda do that whole thing, you know, like when Father had a job and was like, not real? But not Father’s job, the person he worked with. Uh, anyway, how about Narrator?” <I am Manish’s Narrator!> “Uh. Yeah. Yeah sure.”
