FREEFORM BATTLE
Even after her intense battle with Alicia Westfield , Shalin wanted more. All those Huge Seals wouldn't pay for themselves! Thinking of who else on her friends list was available (and approximately her level), she saw Altair was busy in some Instance and unreachable. Josh was way above her, both in skill and in development. That left one person she could reach out to. She created an unlisted room in the Arena and sent the redhead a notice:
DIRECT MESSAGE> I'm looking to get some Arena Points to put together a saddled Mew. Interested in getting some practice in before the next raid?

He was in the middle of scrambling resources to unlock the Ironsmith class (so he could get a physical weapon back in some form); because looking down at things, equipping the Fighter subclass gave him access to close-quarters, physical combat with the use of his fists and legs.
(The Ironsmith gave him access to a weapon, and he missed having the feeling of swinging one around! Though the last time, he’d done an axe… what would he do this time around, though?)
He would stare at the message for a while, before realizing that between himself and all the other friends that they’d made online they were the closest to each other in terms of power.
‘Hey, I wouldn’t mind having a showdown like that. How many Pokémon do you have with you that you can use?’
There, that message should be sufficient.
At the same time, he would make his way over to the battle location to meet up with the greenette.

Seeing that Alkaid was already on the way to the arena, Shalin waited until the redhead arrived before answering his question in person. "Hey, Alkaid ! I've got a full belt of six, though one of them is classless. Just haven't assigned them yet -- the capture is that recent."
Once the two had met up, they were whisked from the Arena's lobby to their destination, Shalin immediately starting to shiver. "I... f-f-forgot how c-c-cold the desert gets at night..." she said as she hurled two of her stronger Pokémon into the center of the arena: Flit the Yanma and Nymris the Pheromosa. The bug-type Invasive Species buzzed his wings menacingly, the air current blowing up a whirlwind of glass dust!

“You really starting with the big guns, right out of the gate?” he would chuckle the moment he saw the Pheromosa hit the field.
“Guess I should hit you as well with mine, too.”
The Celesteela—easily the single largest Pokémon he owned so far—would make her grand appearance, rocket ‘arms’ unfurling from the beam of red light.
The invasive species’ companion for today would be Max, the overly-friendly Growlithe who would immediately make a mad dash for him first; wanting pets and chin scratches!
“Wha—whoa, Max, not now! We have to practice battling first!” he yelped as the Growlithe then began slobbering all over his hands the moment the Fire-type had yeeted themselves straight at him.
“Sorry! Overly friendly canine here!” he would apologize her way once he’d managed to calm the excitable Growlithe down and send him back towards the ‘arena’…
He then belatedly realized…
“Let me guess, you don’t have any levels in Kindler?”
No wonder he didn’t feel the cold at all.

This would be quite the uphill battle, Shalin now realizing that Alkaid had many levels in Kindler. With her team's glaring weakness to fire, this was going to be over in a hurry, she expected. While insects were clever, there was only so much they could do in an environment where evasion was impossible. "They all need the ex-ex-experience!" Shalin shivered. "Why not?"
Before Shalin could answer the redhead's question, Flit zipped toward the center of the battleground and buzzed loudly, looking to take advantage of the dog Pokémon's sensitivity to sound by overwhelming Max's ears with a SUPERSONIC shockwave. Perhaps it would also grab the Celesteela's attention while Nymris was busy MARKING the Ultra Beast as his target...

The ringing noise would catch the Growlithe by surprise; yelping as the loud noise got to them. For a few moments, they would totter around drunkenly, before trying to blast the Yanma out of the air with a surprise Flamethrower!
However with the way the Growlithe were wobbling, the flames would completely and totally miss the point; which was because the Fire-type had reacted on instinct.
The Celesteela, on the other hand, would move before he could even say anything, attempting to drop a boulder on the Pheromosa in an attempt to Smack it downwards!
What was up with his own Pokémon doing things before he could even give orders? Was today an, oh, I don’t know, ‘fuck around and find out’ kind of mood?
Growlithe; take an action on reflex Celesteela; act without orders

Just because Pokémon attacks couldn't miss didn't mean they didn't have to be properly aimed. The FLAMETHROWER was fired so far off target that the Yanma never had a chance to fly into it. Unfortunately for the bug-type, there were not one, but two attacks aimed at it. The hulking Ultra Beast crashed into the much smaller Pokémon and flattened him against the glassy dunes. Were it not a PVP match, the amount of damage the SMACK DOWN inflicted would have been enough for Flit to be in danger of a trip to Seta's realm. Instead, the hyper-effective attack resulted in a mere knockout.
The Celesteela's typing was something she didn't have a good out to. All she could do was wear the Invasive Species out over time. Reluctantly, she lobbed Saria's Poké Ball into the air. "Saria, LEECH SEED!" While it didn't seem intuitive, perhaps the seeds, if fired with sufficient force, could take root between the living missile's plates and sever some circuitry inside.
If there were none, Nymris would create some, sprinting toward the steel-type and leaping into it with a whirling TRIPLE KICK!

“Max! Can you hear me?!” he would shout over the Celesteela’s whistling noise that had started acting up again… holy hellballs, what the fuck.
The Celesteela had seen the incoming attack and made to swing one of their rocket arms towards the incoming attack—was it even possible to block something like this—before the entire body started moving in an attempt to land a Heavy Slam on the incoming—the spindly roach on two legs!
(What, there was nothing else to it!)
“And now you’re laser-firing on one of my ‘mons? Really, girl?” he would cackle, unimpressed at the strategy—all it would take would be for the Growlithe to shake his head a few times; before swinging his head around and attempting to catch both Pokémon that were attempting to converge on his Celesteela with another Flamethrower attack!
At the same time, he would whistle, and bark at the gigantic rocket-ship, [tangent=“Fly!”]“Voler!”[/tangent] and hoping that it wasn’t a fluke he’d experienced several times during the Asper Cup.
He was hoping to at least get one of his two Pokémon higher into the air and hopefully start raining down attacks on the next pass…

Shalin, too, was deafened from the loud whistling coming from the Invasive Species. She couldn't hear anything, and she expected that neither of her Pokémon would be able to, either. As the hulking Celesteela body slammed Nymris, the resulting CRITICAL HIT prompted a "Close Call!" message to flash on Shalin's UI, indicating that the Ultra Beast had survived an otherwise lethal attack with a single hit point. It mattered little, the Kindler's Growlithe lining up to catch both of her Pokémon in a destructive gout of FLAMETHROWER that led to both her partners becoming badly singed. Saria only looked less worse for wear from the LEECH SEED siphoning the fire-type's stamina away, both indirectly sharing the pain of the fire attack.
Even as Shalin withdrew her fallen bug-type for Ellie, she doubted the Phanpy could hear anything over that awful screeching noise. Her Pokémon both took matters into their own hands, the Bulbasaur expelling a toxic cloud of POISON POWDER from her bud as Ellie attempted to ram and trample the fire-type with a nasty BULLDOZE attack.

In due time, the Celesteela would finally take off from the ground—which all but confirmed his suspicion: maybe his own invasive species wasn’t inclined to communicate in English—when he got around to that point.
(That would be a very interesting development should that be the case.)
The Growlithe, on the other hand, would start sneezing the moment he’d inhaled the… uh-oh. One sneeze became two, which would become three, which would then—
The shaking of the ground would catch Max off-guard as well as the sneezing, and so now he knew he was on a timer—all things considered.
“Max! Don’t waste more energy than you have to!” he would warn the canid Pokémon, who was now clearly fighting through the pain brought by the noxious spores he’d inhaled. Despite the urge to bark like crazy at the Bulbasaur, a vortex of fire would come from the canid’s maw; an attempt to trap either one of both of them in a Flame Wheel attack!
Meanwhile, the Celesteela, now airborne—would cause even more of a racket with a nails-on-chalkboard, screaming, screeching Metal Sound effect!
“Ow!” he would hiss, gritting his teeth through the really loud noise that shook the entire arena.
Growlithe; fight through the pain Celesteela; create a loud sound

Shalin was forced to cover her ears as the METAL SOUND ravaged the ears of all present. Though Ellie stood strong, Saria was wilting, even her bulb turning a sickly orange-yellow color. On her last legs, the ground-type ran interference for her, trying to lure both of Alkaid 's Pokémon toward her lashing VINE WHIPS...
...only for the WONDER ROOM to kick in. The Phanpy did a completely 180 as all controls became inverted, banging her head against an invisible wall and leaving her stunned. The VINE WHIPS that were to lash toward her foe's two partners instead violently cracked against the glass floor. All had not been lost, though; the two crackers sliced and shattered a small section of the dunes, causing glass to go flying toward them both at whistling velocities!

It wouldn’t take long before the—whoa, what happened to the Phanpy?
Luckily, he was familiar with this phenomenon happening (having already encountered it in a dungeon previously) and was wise to whistle sharply in the direction of his Growlithe, at least.
(He knew his Celesteela was off in the skies, doing their own thing, so he’d get to that later.)
“Max! Don’t go forward—go backward! And not left—go right!” he would warn the canid Pokémon, who was now barking like mad a t the Bulbasaur—if this was going to be a double knock-out, then so be it. Making sure to adjust to how his human companion wanted him to move, the canid Pokémon’s body would wreathe itself in blazing flame, before charging in the direction he’d mentioned—which would have the opposite effect since Wonder Room was in effect—
A literal comet of fire on four legs would then come slamming into the Bulbasaur, a literal Flare Blitz of desperation. While the Vine Whip attacks would lash at it, the radiating heat would incinerate them into ashes as the canine barreled closer and closer to their intended target—
While this would produce the intended effect, it would also knock out the Growlithe as well; which he would then recall not too long afterward.
“You did well, Max. You’re up.”
The next beam of red light would then transform into—
‘You wake me up, for this?’
“I know, I know,” he would sigh in the Murkrow’s direction. “Look sharp, will you?”
From up above, the circling Celesteela would then drop Leech Seeds towards the ground; pelting them at random to wherever it would land on the opposite side of the battle arena.
The flying shards of glass were not missed, either!
“Whoa, be careful!” he would yelp in the greenette’s direction, raising up his arms to shield himself from whatever glass shards had made it through the heat haze left behind in the knocked-out Growlithe’s wake.

No amount of LEECH SEEDS would let Saria contain Max's grotesquely powerful fire attack turned up to eleven. As flames raced down the lashing Bulbasaur's vines toward her core, Shalin promptly withdrew the burning grass-type from the battle. Though it would be a bit unconventional to fight a Celesteela with, the Pokémon Shalin would send out to contend the Ultra Beast with was Rumble, her Onix.
Alkaid had timed his LEECH SEED command perfectly, seeding both of the girl's ground-type Pokémon. Knowing she was on a timer, Shalin ordered her Phanpy to curl up. "ROLLOUT, Ellie! Knock that Murkrow out of the air!" she shouted, bracing herself against the glass flying at her by covering her face. Curling into a ball, the ground-type caught air on one of the dunes just as the WONDER ROOM faded, looking to ground the small bird.
Rumble took a much more direct approach, throwing his body at the Celesteela. Were he able to catch onto the Ultra Beast with the ROCK THROW attack, he would rattle his tail to try to short-circuit the creature's interior workings. Though it was a long shot for the rock tail to shake the Pokémon to incapacitation, it was all she had!
