The heat was almost unbearable, the desert sun almost scorching down on the hybrid as she made her way through the dunes - the hollow echos of skyscrapers towering over her as Cypress made her way through the suburbian paradise that this once was.
She had never really explored this area in its entirety, and there was almost something a tad nostalgic about moving her way through the once-neighborhood.
An abandoned playground caught her attention, worn over the depths of time forgotten, the chains of swings intertwined with rust.
Beside her, a Mudkip and a Houndour followed close behind, both seeming unfazed by the heat. As both Water and Fire type walked alongside each other, they'd occasionally glance to the small things in the area - a skyscraper here, a rusted over street sign there.
Huck was the first one to speak between the two.
"This area feels...kinda lonely, huh."
Paprika tilted his head, eyes moving to the mud skipper, voice raspy in tone. "What ever do you mean?"
"All these rusted signs, the abandoned area, these kinda skyscrapers," The Mudkip continued, tail twitching occasionally. "There's just somethin' about all this that feels...lonely. Like it's a shell of its former self and all that." He'd exhale, making a motion with a foreleg as he continued to walk.
"It...does sort of feel like that." Cypress would add in, walking speed slowing to be at pace with her Pokemon. "I guess its because of what this could have been? This could have been a city, all full of life...at least we can assume that with," A hand motion to a sandblasted YIELD sign, the shape the only indicator of what it once was, what it could have been. "So seeing it all empty like this? With no one really around? It's no wonder things could feel lonely."
Huck would give a calm nod, and Paprika would exhale a small ember of flame, as the trio kept up their trek through the dunes.

Alicia wheeled around, breaking away from a language training session with Venex. And she knew Ronda couldn’t pass up a chance to make a run through such a wide open area where he could really run his bio-wheels. She was planning on heading back to Asper at that point. But then she caught a flash of movement out in the sands and ruins. A person and a pair of regular Pokemon. While the pokemon were fairly small, Alicia did know that in UNOVR evolution stage wasn’t everything. It could easily be a scenario where the player chose not to evolve them. Still, on the off chance it was a ‘can’t’ and not a ‘won’t’ reason, she made her call. ”Detour time, Ronda!” She warned her Cyclizar, before leaning and pulling firmly on her dragon’s innate handles. ”Whoa-ho!” Ronda bellowed in response as he went into a sharp skis to reorient his direction. Then with a grin, the Cyclizar’s legs worked quickly to gallop back to full speed towards their new destination. A quick whistle from Alicia caught Venex’s attention, and the Naganadel pivoted to rejoin his trainer, fluttering close. Thus did the trio intercept Cypress, Huck, and Paprika. Crossing behind them, she pulled Ronda into a more gradual turn to pull up beside the… wolf-hybrid!? ”Don’t squee, don’t squee, her avatar’s adorable but DON’T SQUEE!” Alicia thought to herself strongly as she took a breath. That was possible to do with an in-game avatar in UNOVR!? That was precious! ”Hey there!” the Gardener called at last, smiling. ”It’s pretty dangerous in these parts. Is this your first time trekking through Ostellia?””Spotted ya from afar, the lady decided to swing by! At the appearance of the motocycle lizard, Naganadel and the other woman, Cypress would raise her hand in greeting, before thinking about the question itself.
"Uh - yeah! This is basically my first time really exploring around here."
It was the truth - she never really had explored Ostellia before, and the patch notes when she got the game had gotten her intrigued about the area...sand filled, as it may be. There was a subtle eerieness to the sight of the skyscrapers, though. A feeling of something...foreboding. (ignore it, ignore it...)
Her ear twitched as she opted to ask a question.
"What about you, what are you doing around here?"
The Mudkip beside her would smile at the Cyclizar in a polite effort to be friendly, with the Houndour beside the starter returning the greeting with a simple nod. "Well, pleased t' make your acquaintance too."

Alicia smiled softly, nodding before pointing a thumb towards Venex. ”I’d been working with this bundle of poison and stabbing. Trying to establish communication with him. Was about to return to Asper for a bit when I saw you.”Venex then chittered and hissed insistently, making Alicia’s eyes widen. She’d spotted it as well but wasn’t one hundred percent certain. But if Venex was reacting... ”Gun it, Ronda!””I see it!” Ronda replied, lunging towards Cypress’ group. The Gardener grabbed the hybrid and hauled her onto the Cyclizar’s back with her. A tight fit, but a temporary one. Ronda then grabbed Huck in his, fortunately fangless, maw. And Venex swooped to pick Paprika up in both clawed hands, quickly beating his wings to backpedal away. Ronda in turn squealed his wheel sacs as he bailed from the area. Just in time too, a behemoth of animated stones had just emerged, coming crashing down like an avalanche on Cypress’ prior location. ”Sorry about being so rough!” Alicia called back. ”I didn’t have time to actually warn you. A friend of mine got caught out like that so I’ve been paying attention to suspicious rock piles. Add Venex’s chittered warning and… yeah…”Fortunately, even overloaded like this Ronda was able to beat feet fast enough to make the Stakataka decide against pursuing them. So when they were far enough away, Alicia pulled Ronda over so everyone could get off and re-settled. She did worry that Paprika might’ve had issues with an abrupt trip on Air Naganadel. But it was better than being crushed by a Super-Effective attack and potentially ending up in the Everworld… ”Anyways…” Alicia began, huffing a sigh. ”Ostellia is dangerous right now. A small nod mixed with a noise of affirmation would be Cypress's response, as she'd begin to think. She hadn't noticed there were Ultra Beasts here before, and since in Ultra Sun, they came from different habitats, it did make sense communication would be hard. It did sound interesting though. "That sounds pretty cool! What kind of methods have you-?" The Nagadanel chittering and hissing got the hybrid's attention, and before she could ask-
"!"
"Eh-?"
"Good heavens-!"
The trio were picked up by Player, Dragon and Ultra Beast alike and sped away - as a Stakataka slammed into her previous location.
For a second, Cypress didn't say anything - that was...really close. Once the trio had stopped though, Paprika had hopped out of the Ultra Beast's grip and Huck was out of the dragon's maw as the other girl took a moment to breathe.
"No...no, it's OK. You've explored this area more than me, how could I be mad?" She'd manage, before glancing around the dunes.
”Ostellia is dangerous right now. Until you know the spawn points well enough, keep your eyes peeled for anything."
Her eyes would widen slightly, as a glint of something in the distance would catch her attention. Metal? A bit of squinting made it focus a bit more - something was getting closer...and at a fast pace. "Speaking of anything...something's coming this way."
The sound of something firing off caught her attention next - it sounded like a engine of somesort.
Or a booster.
If Ultra Beasts are here, there was only one Ultra Beast that would make sense - the word immediately came to mind. "A Celesteela."
Immediately, the Houndour would fire off an Ember to attempt to hit the metal...'Celesteela' in one of the boosters, as Huck watched as it approached with a wary eye, preparing to move at a moment's notice.

”To answer the question you were going to ask…” Alicia began once they were relatively safer. ”I’d taught him a few key whistles so I can at least tell him ‘come here’, ‘go there’, ‘target that’, ‘yes’, and ‘no’. But more importantly I’ve been going through the pain-staking process of teaching him the English language. It’s… touch and go. And sometimes I wonder if he’s even getting it at all. But I have to keep trying. Otherwise we’ll never get anywhere.”And then Cypress mentioned that something else was incoming. Looking in the direction she indicated, she cursed softly. ”Ronda can only outrun something like that at optimum load capacity. Overloaded as all of us would make him, it’s going to catch up to someone!””Then we fight!” Ronda chimed, whipping himself around. ”At your ready, Alicia!””Gun it!” the hero aspirant replied. Then she whistles sharply, pointing at the incoming Celesteela. With her dragons, she surged towards the frontline, intending to take the brunt of the Beast’s attention onto herself. ”Quick Attack!””Hrrraagh!” Blurring into action, the Cyclizar leaped, body slamming the Celesteela to interrupt it’s approach. Cypress would nod at the question's response, a little smile forming on her face. "That's...pretty admirable - your determination, I mean." She'd amend the statement, ears twitching slightly in thought. "I know learning another language can be difficult...and it's good you're teaching him, however long it may take."
At the comment of potentially being able to catch up to somebody, Cypress would also seem to quietly curse, gritting her teeth. Watching the motorcycle lizard turn around with a fire in their eyes, the hybrid would also begin to run after Alicia and her dragons at the shout of 'Gun it!'
"Right behind you! Paprika, Huck! Try and hit it if you can!"
"You got it, kiddo!"
"Understood."
At her sides, the Fire and Water types nodded before attacking - the mud skipper launching spheres of rock at the living rocket, and the skull dog firing off Ember after Ember - the flames appearing hotter and hotter in intensity as both Pokemon attempted to assist the two dragons in their collective assault.
Paprika would grit his teeth after the next Ember. His flames needed to be hotter - if he was to assist in battle...then...then he had to try harder. He had to do this. He had to.
Thus, the part-Dark type would inhale sharply and-
Paprika used Incinerate!
A jet of flame would erupt from the canine's maw, attempting to strike the rocket.
At that sudden flame, Cypress's eyes would widen before letting out a excited cheer - Huck even stopping in his throws for a moment to look at the Houndour with a hint of pride, before going back to his throwing.
Even Paprika looked a tad surprised at his attack before letting out a proud laugh.

”Nice shot, Paprika!” Alicia called from Ronda’s back as they continued to tear through the desert to hedge the rocket ship Beast in. While it was still able to fling ranged attacks, the amount of power Alicia’s crew was also bringing to the field was undeniable and the beast had to respect that. In fact, checking its HP… ”Cypress! Pokeball at the ready, it’s almost down! Ronda, get us in there!””Let ‘er rip!” Ronda replied, charging in. This time, Alicia took things into her own hand. Raising it skyward, the searing rays began to coalesce as she called upon her maxed rank Gardener Class. Her Cyclizar leaped again, rushing in a Quick Attack. Alicia joined his rush with a solar energy infused punch, driving the Celesteela down to the ground and giving her a chance to slap her own Golden Pokeball down. "Gotcha!" Cypress would take out her Golden Pokeball as she ran alongside the dragon tamer, gripping it tight in her hand as she followed along, both Pokemon in tow. She couldn't help but let out a excited cheer at the sight of the solar-infused punch, throwing her own Pokeball against the living rocket.
After a moment, when the creature was caught, the hybrid would exhale more through her teeth than anything - heart racing like a rabbit in her chest.
"That was...that was a rush."
"I agree." The Houndour would state as well, finally slowing down to stand beside his trainer. Cypress would scratch behind the canine's ears with a grin on her face. "Nice one there, though! You got two really good hits on it."

”Ultra Beast battles always are.” Alicia agreed as she and Ronda pulled up beside Cypress. ”I’m assuming this is your first Ultra Beast capture, so I’m going to warn you now. Do not let it out outside of Ostellia. They’re crazy when taken out of this region. Venex, for one, gets very stabby. "I think I'll take that offer of escort - thanks." Cypress exhales, storing the information of 'Do NOT let Celesteela out anywhere but here' for later use. She didn't want to think about what a living rocket could do to her...especially if it got erratic.
"Ok, everyone - back in the ball?"
Both Houndour and Mudkip nodded, as Cypress would recall both member of the team, put the Pokeball away, and take the escort offered to her - and yet, her mind still wondered.
'How could I talk to it?'
