Who knew that the cloak he’d picked up would prove to be inherently really useful?
There was just one little problem though—while he technically had enough Grass-types to go around, he had deliberately chosen not to specialize in Gardener this time around.
(You know, set boundaries between the past and present; that sort of thing.)
He knew by memory recall, that there was another one of the species that leaned towards one of the four type specializations that he wanted to pursue this time around, however fact of the matter was that they also happened to be an ‘invasive’ species as well, so there was that.
The size comparison between this one and his Celesteela was absurdly ridiculous. Almost comic, to a degree.
The good thing was that, he’d reached some kind of accord with aforementioned Celesteela—or at least he hoped to think that this was the case—
At least they were following some distance behind him, he made sure to check. There was also this mental reminder to always speak in French around the Celesteela, too, since out of the languages he knew, that was the only one they seemed to comprehend.
[tangent=“What is it?”]“Qu'est-ce que c'est?”[/tangent] he would ask quietly.
The whistling noise had since stopped ever since he started addressing them in French, so that was a good sign…

The Celesteela was still following behind him, but there was no noise of acknowledgement—had they perhaps spotted something?
He would turn around and raise his eyebrows in silent question, because what else was there? Instead, he would see that the gigantic… companion had come to a stop and had raised one of the rocket arms, pointing to something in the distance.
While it was still too far away to see whatever it was, fact of the matter was that it was fast approaching—would they be sucked into a battle right away?
(There was… possibly, a one in three shot of getting this right, he hoped.)
[tangent=“Get ready,”]“Se préparer,”[/tangent] he would warn the Celesteela in case whatever it was streaking their way on the horizon was something that they had to handle!

The thing that would come barreling their way—well, while it wasn’t the clown he shuddered as that took three tries before they found them) it was…
Oh, no.
[tangent=“Knock it away!”]“Frappez-le!”[/tangent] he would yell, getting ready to duck because he did not want to be in the way of those arms throwing who-knew-how-powerful punches from out of nowhere!
The Celesteela would screech—not at him, but at the Buzzwole, before one of the rocket arms would indeed come swinging around in what he guessed was the Celesteela’s attempt at a roundhouse punch, or something similar of the sort.
The loud clanging and crashing would make him bite down on his tongue; because the noise recoil as simply horrifying.
[tangent=“Don’t get hurt too much!”]“Ne vous blessez pas trop!”[/tangent] he would follow up, hoping against hope that the Celesteela would be able to blast the Buzzwole away—he knew just how pesky the big, buff bug was from the original games—almost cost him two hours’ worth of work to be ruined had he not stocked up on enough Revives and shit.
Yikes, why did it seem like all the Pokémon—or whatever they were called—were out for blood today?!

Thankfully, the Buzzwole would be discouraged from following them further as both rocket arms of the Celesteela swung out wide—like really, really wide—and he had to lie down flat on the grass because getting hit by at least one of those swinging, bulky limbs would be more than enough for him to end up a smear of pixels on the ground!
He kept his hands over his head, because he had no way of telling how the coast was clear—he would have to rely on his sense of hearing. Eventually, the din of the buzzing noise would leave the two alone—and the strange, screeching call would echo out over the area.
[tangent=“Is it safe now?”]“Est-ce que c'est sûr maintenant?”[/tangent] he would ask, looking up and hoping that whatever they’d done hadn’t drawn the attention of the other beasts—species—that lurked out here!

Unfortunately, the sound of what was like rumbling thunder would reach his ears, and he had to remain prone on the ground as—something else came screaming their way!
From the way the air suddenly smelled like there was an electrical fire nearby—if he had to guess, this was the literal walking bunch of wires.
(Oh, if only he’d been online at a certain time, he’d have been witness to something else in the Abandoned Laboratory in this area!)
[tangent=“Shit,”]“Merde,”[/tangent] he hissed as his guess was right—this was a Xurkitree that had come raining on their parade! While it wasn’t as aggressive as the Buzzwole from earlier, fact of the matter was that the way the air was ionized meant something bad would happen if they lingered out here for too long.
[tangent=“Make it quick,”]“Faites vite,”[/tangent] he continued; keeping his head down as he heard the familiar ‘whoosh’ing noise of the Celesteela’s arms swinging around in an extremely wide arc once more above his head.

There was one thing his Celesteela was good at—it was knocking things away with her colossal, rocket-sized arms.
So at least, they could fight whenever they got cornered. Just that getting a face-full of rocket engine fire was definitely fatal, if not outright stupid.
One, two… if memory serves me right there should be one more… he thought; going over the mental notes he’d taken about which invasive species spawned where—there were only three locations, but the way they were spread out made him concerned.
[tangent=“What’s coming?”]“Qu'est-ce qui arrive?”[/tangent] he would ask once he dared look up after the rumbling noise had long faded—and the air didn’t smell like a burnt wet toaster.
Hopefully it would be the one that—the one that they were looking for…

Unfortunately, the big, buff bug from before would be back for more! There was a very distinct buzzing noise on the air, and he groaned.
Guess I’m staying down here in the grass… he thought with a quiet sigh as he braced his arms over his head again, and whistled exactly once.
The Celesteela would turn in the direction of the buzzing noise; and despite the cackling grin on her face she would let out an angry shrieking noise that sounded like a kettle gone to black on the stove; before swinging out both arms this time around in a one-two swinging motion!
The faster they could get rid of the Buzzwole, the better shit would be.
Because this wasn’t what they came out here for. Maybe the one they were looking for was so small they’d gotten themselves incinerated in the fumes of the Ceelsteela’s rocket hands-exhaust?!

He idly wondered if, somehow, once these strange—these strange ones could talk, he could possibly… maybe, ask his Celesteela why she was so inclined to violence?
(She didn’t behave like this in the Asper Cup, after all! Maybe with the whistling noise and sheer size, but… honestly!)
He thought he heard the sounds of pixels exploding some time later, but kept his head down in the grass; arms braced above his head—in case the Buzzwole decided to come after him instead of the Celesteela.
Just how much time were they going to spend out here, anyway? He wondered if the one he was searching for even actually existed…

The same shriek from earlier would warn him to stay down and hidden in the grass, because holy shit there was no way he was going to risk his neck peeking up to see what had attracted the Celesteela’s attention!
He would instead rely on his sense of hearing—what the hell? Had they stumbled upon a bug’s nest by any chance?
Just how many Buzzwole were out here today?!
[tangent=“You handle it,”]“Tu t'en occupes,”[/tangent] he would mutter quietly; for some reason he had a feeling that despite the Celesteela’s comically gigantic size, they had a very keen sense of hearing.
(Ask and you shall receive, they say. Wait, wasn’t that like some kind of a verse from…?)
The Celesteela would let out the same shrill shrieking noise, making her gigantic rocket ‘arms’ move from their solitary position—swinging out in a violently powerful arc and catching the incoming Buzzwole just as it had taken a leap towards where they had spotted the human hiding in the very low grass line!
[tangent=“But please, be careful,”]“Mais s'il vous plaît, soyez prudent,”[/tangent] he would add a few moments later.

The rumbling noise that was the Celesteela’s ‘arms’ swinging in motion would eventually come to a stop, and he thought he heard another loud crunching—or was it splatting—noise once again.
Yikes. Okay, he would make a mental note to himself to never piss off the Celesteela—who knew how she could move while she was pissed off?!
Once the ringing noise had stopped, he would risk another peek up from where he was prone on the ground, coughing a little bit because of the dust clouds that had been left in the Buzzwole’s wake.
“Honestly. When you want something, it’s not there,” he would mumble, bleeding soft complaints and hoping that his companion didn’t notice he’d slipped into English for a little—
The strange whistling noise would start up again.
[tangent=“Sorry, sorry!”]“Désolé, désolé!”[/tangent] he would apologize. Hopefully that would calm her down.
And another note to self: don’t slip into another language while she’s around! he thought as he mentally slapped himself for that slip-up.

Little did he know that the thing that they were looking for was going to come hurtling straight at them—
In a completely and totally unexpected manner.
He’d been crouched down for so long on the grass, he thought of raising his head up from the low grass line to look around—since when had it become deathly quiet? Wait, since she’d managed to scare away the Buzzwole, did that mean—
There was no scent of ionized, electrically-charged air either, so that meant—
A sudden, sharp pain would lance across the right side of his forehead—which made him suddenly start spitting out a garbled mess of both French and Italian swear words—what the fuck had just hit him?!
[tangent=“What the fuck!”]“Che cazzo!”[/tangent] he roared, quickly pressing a hand to his forehead; he could already tell his field of vision was getting obscured by the blood that was pouring out of the cut on his forehead—
[tangent=“Where is it, can you see it?”]“Où est-il, pouvez-vous le voir?”[/tangent] he yelled as he switched to French once more, lest the obnoxious whistling started to pick up once again. He would look around wildly, trying to determine just where the damned thing had—
Wait, wait, that meant—
Whatever the fuck had tried to cut his head open—
There was a Kartana nearby!
[tangent=“Find them!”]“Trouvez-les!”[/tangent] he would shout a few moments afterward, now forced to press both his palms to the cut on his forehead; for the blood wouldn’t stop drip, drip, dripping—

Why did he have to run out of bandages at the single worst possible time, why did this have to happen now—
He could only see out of one eye for now; he was forced to squeeze his right eye shut, if but to stop the blood from obscuring his field of vision—oh shit, what was his Celesteela doing out there while he’d run to the Thunderfall Shrine—
He would return to a scene of chaos; the Celesteela was shrieking like a mad person possessed as the rocket ‘arms’ were now firing indiscriminately all over the place.
All manner of Flash Cannon as well as boulders being throw in random directions would be the first sight he would see (out of his reduced field of vision, anyway) as he whistled a very sharp note to get the Celesteela’s attention.
[tangent=“Don’t attack recklessly!”]“N’attaquez pas imprudemment!”[/tangent] he would warn her.
[tangent=“Focus! You’ll hear—something! I know you can hear me all the way down here so I don’t need to shout, so listen really hard to your surroundings!”]“Concentre-toi! Tu vas entendre quelque chose! Je sais que tu peux m’entendre d’ici, donc je n’ai pas besoin de crier, alors écoute très attentivement ce qui se passe autour de toi!”[/tangent] he added; hoping that she wouldn’t give in to blind rage and torch the entire location to swat the ridiculously-tiny Kartana out of the air.

The good thing was, the Celesteela was listening to him—for now. This was… this was going to be another test to see how much he could communicate with her when the strange species was driven by rage, and not understanding—
Several more boulders of random size would suddenly be dropped at seemingly random angles—and for a few moments, there was silence.
And then, the sound of said boulders being cut by what was arguably, the smallest blade in existence would ring out.
[tangent=“Over there!”]“Là-bas!”[/tangent] he would continue, tilting his head in the general direction where the boulders had been cleaved in half seemingly in thin air.
[tangent=“Follow the sound of the blades!”]“Suivez le son des lames!”[/tangent] he added; mentally crossing his fingers while pressing his palms as hard as he possibly could into the wound on his forehead that was still bleeding freely.
Why had the Kartana gone after him instead of the Celesteela, though?
Was there a different thought process out here?

The good thing about this was that, at the very least, his flimsy theory was holding up—all things considered.
The Celesteela, at least in his head—only responded to his commands in French, and no other language. Anything else set her on fire. Plus, there was also that funny little quirk he’d noticed—despite her comically enormous size, she had a very keen sense of hearing.
At least he didn’t have to shout all the time around her, which was a relief!
The sight of more boulders being cut would be the sign that his Celesteela was managing to keep track of where the Kartana was—but ridiculous as this entire thing was, his own strange ‘invasive species’ was making headway with trying to swat the tiniest one of their species out of the air!
[tangent=“Keep it up, you’re doing great!”]“Continue comme ça, tu es très doué!”[/tangent] he would complement the Celesteela; wincing as more blood pulsed out of the cut on his forehead—geez, just how deep did the Kartana cut into him, anyway? Had it scraped the bone?!
Hopefully not…

Okay, note to self: stock up on bandages and disinfectant when you get back to civilization! he would make a mental note as he ignored the oozing sensation of blood dripping down his face; if he took his right hand away from where he was applying pressure to the wound, he was afraid of just how bad the injury really was.
Wouldn’t this make an interesting story when he got around to meeting everyone else again, eh?
Another series of seemingly-randomly flung boulders (which was actually the Celesteela’s Smack Down being fired off in an attempt to locate the Kartana) would rain down from out of nowhere—and then another thought passed in his mind; was it possible for Celesteela to learn Rock Slide; since that had a wider coverage than Smack Down did?
Another loud slicing sound would reach his ears, and he grit his teeth. It would be best to leave this to the ‘expert’ around these parts as one of the rocket ‘arms’ came rising up again; another attempt to fire a close-range Flash Cannon at the tiny little murder paper!
Murder paper? Why yes, the damned Kartana had definitely earned that moniker!
