Ruby had stumbled into the Dream World as fast as her feet could carry her, and her usual Kimono was notably absent. Instead, a set of leather armor would suddenly cover her in a purple shade as if the world itself knew her intentions. This was not a moment to sit idly by and rest until the confrontations began. This was a time for preperations.
To ready for War.
She had rushed back to her chambers, where her eggs remained sitting atop her bed. Long had she laid with them, hoping that one day they would simply hatch, awaken through no effort of her own. Waiting, and doing nothing, however, was not the solution to any problem. Nor would it be the one to this.
She kneeled down, and reverently picked up her Articuno egg, the shell shimmering in the soft pastel lights that illuminated her room from the clouds that flowed through the ceiling, diffusing and scattering the soft lights to form a gentle atmosphere. Only now, they were suddenly crackling with thunder, as if attuned to her very mood itself.
"My dearest child, it is time for you to wake. Even such that you shall be too young, too new to this world to fight, your power shall bless us all." She'd hold them close, and finally step out of the room to expose them to something greater. Little have she ever taken them beyond the castle walls, the Kingdom. Today, she showed them the entire world.
She stepped out of the walls of the palace, and before her laid a dozen paths. Ahead, the vision of the reality shifted with every slight twist of the head, every slight change in perception. Realities upon realities, ideas upon ideas, and dreams upon dreams. The endless infinite of the mind, and the space where all could be.
Ruby simply held the egg up, allowing them to be blessed with the sight. To allow the moment to mean something, to matter to them. They would inherit this Kingdom, one day.
Suddenly, Ruby felt a hand atop her shoulder. She didn't need to look to know who it was, she already knew.
It was a heavily armored hand, clanking with a familiar sound. "Earl Slamson of Breakcourt, you're up. I didn't expect you to be."

Ruby would finally glance back, and suddenly the familiar form of the Earl was replaced with the sensation of the Indeedee placing their hand against her waist.
"Darling told me you can speak to us now." Dear suddenly spoke, the ever so gentlemanly butler Pokemon standing tall and calm, but their eyes betrayed their emotions. Curious, hopeful, and intrigued nonetheless. "Is that so?"
Ruby let out a soft sigh, reaching over to place her free hand upon the Indeedee's horn to share her emotions better than words ever could, especially in this world of waking dreams, where anything could be reality. "It is true. I'm sorry I have never tried before. I was... scared."
Dear just smiles, leaning against Ruby's hand with a gentle motion. "Do not be scared. I am simply happy. Do you require my assistance?"
"No no, you're quite Dear. You are free to- Actually, can you fetch me my Pillow?"
"The special one?"
"Of course."
"It shall be done." The gentlemanly butler bowed his head, and began to walk away, even as Ruby swore she could continue to hear the sounds of metal greaves clanking upon the ground. She simply followed suit, moving back towards the castle and stepping back inside. Instead of appearing back within the large halls of the entrance, the doorway carried her mysteriously back to her room.
Precisely where she found Dear had set up her Dreamcatcher Cushion, resting atop a small seat. "Here it is, your majesty. May it serve you well."
"Goodness, you're so formal, aren't you?" Ruby would finally chuckle, picking up the pillow and gently cradling the Articuno egg within it, hoping that some of her own dreams would be shown to the unhatched child within.
"Always." And with that, he seemed to take pride in his work. "Shall I inform the King you have returned?"
"No, no need. I shall write him a message."
"Understood. If you need me, simply call for me, and I shall always be here for you."
Ruby just smiled, and once again patted the Indeedee's horns. "I'll never forget, not now, not ever."

A message indeed. She'd carefully make her way towards the throne room, descending from a staircase of clouds from the stained glass window that led from the true exit of her room.
It depicted the very moment that both her and King Articuno were crowned King and Queen. Him of course, rightfully again as he should be, and her for the first time, to rule alongside, to help guide and connect with the people.
It felt like such a lifetime ago, that it had simply become truth. Reality. Memories of the time before felt like a whole different world.
She stepped into the Throne room, finding it empty for now. Her throne of pillows across from the classic storybook throne of stone of Articuno's, and the large pool-like mirror that laid on the ground between. With a soft smile, she'd gently place the egg down beside the throne, where Articuno spent their time. "Embrace the moment, when you hatch, I'll make room upon my throne for you to join me. A special pillow, just for you. Please wait for a moment, I need to write something."
She'd flick her wrist, and a small scroll and quill formed before her, writing down her note.
She'd glance down at the egg, and hummed softly in thought. She swore she hadn't placed her pillow on top of the throne, but she supposed this place had a weird way of acting upon her true intents, and not just her actions. To bond with the power of their father.
"Come down, little one." She'd speak to the egg, picking up her pillow. "The King's throne is his. You can use mine." With a quiet chuckle, she'd finally place her scroll down and walk over to her own throne.

Ruby would sit down atop her own throne, letting out a soft sigh as she finally relaxed. There would come a time to just sit back and breathe, and perhaps she was stressing herself too intensely, but she could only but hope everything she had shared, everything she had learned, would be enough to help.
The egg remained cool in her hands, and yet Ruby couldn't get comfortable.
The throne, for perhaps the first time, wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world.
She supposed that was simply the drive to act, the nerves that demanded she get up and moved. Continued to work, continued to fight, but there was little that could be done before the conflict.
Except, prepare this little one for the world they'd grow up in. With a long sigh, she'd continue to cradle them gentle as words spilled from her lips. "I can't promise that I'll be the perfect mother to you. And I can't promise that the world you will be born into will be safe."
"But I can promise, that it is beautiful."
She'd wave her hand, and her own memories would showcase upon the mirror below. Visions of walking through the streets of Briarbane, the beautiful ocean view of the sunrise across Beta Island, the stunning floating islands that floated across the Steppes. This world was filled with such beauty, such intensity, she couldn't imagine anyone ever finding it boring.
"... Wait a minute." Ruby suddenly spoke, leaping to her feet. "Why am I simply showing you visions of the world? When I can just, take you there?" Her eyes would widen with excitement at the idea, and with a grin, she'd carefully pluck the egg off the pillow.
"We're going on a quick adventure. Just, hang on tight." And with that, she'd step forwards and fall straight through the mirror to return back to the world of the waking.

Ruby would appear within the waking world, just a few steps away from the Precipice Shrine. She took in a breath of fresh air, the wildflowers blooming, the sun shining overhead through the brief rain clouds that sprinkled across the timberlands.
It was a cold day, and slightly wet, but it brought her such joy. That every day was somehow ever more real, ever more true.
Or perhaps, it was simply easier to mistake it for the truth. Ruby didn't know, but at this stage in her life, she supposed it no longer mattered.
The egg rested carefully in her hands as she walked quietly, proceeding through the trees. "We're going to one of my favorite places. It's called Mirror Lake. It looks like ruins from above, but the lake holds a secret. I won't spoil it for you, you'll just have to hatch and find it out for yourself."
She'd step quietly forwards a few steps, only to suddenly stop. Something wasn't right.
Her eyes narrowed, scanning the scene before her. Something was off. She traveled this path all the time, she trusted her gut to know that something was afoot.
As if on pure instinct, suddenly horns twisted and curled out from beneath her hair, the emotion sensitive horns of an Indeedee, just like Dear she had seen mere moments ago. A mess of emotions filled her mind, sensing them from beings around her, but something pierced through the haze of all of them. Something stronger, something she couldn't comprehend or even define.
Her eyes glimpsed into the shadows of the forest, only to see a glowing eye form and reveal itself, and then another, and another, until a dozen formed as an oozing mass of corruption pressed through into the open clearing. It had horrific long claws, a black goo dripping from them. Whatever this used to be, it barely resembled its original self.
The old Ruby, just a few hours ago, might have immediately ran. With the fury of war swiftly flowing through her veins, Ruby clutched the egg closer to her chest and held out one arm. "Leave! I'm giving you a warning!"
It sought no parley, simply lunging forth with an intense speed.

The corrupted beast pounced and Ruby just barely had the time to slide out of the way, as long oozing claws ripped up the ground where she had stood. The non-newtonian mass slumped across the ground, rolling and reforming a shape that seemed vaguely similar. Perhaps a poor Sneasel?
Fear gripped her heart, an intense worry forming for her egg, the child that might never be born.
Sneasels already had an Egg-based diet. A corrupted one was almost certainly targeting her, solely because of her egg, what other answer was there? She put it in danger, she was the one who stepped here, she brought it here. It was her fault.
But just as before, within that damned tomb of a cave, she found her strength. She found that anger that carried her forwards, strengthened her resolve. She could not have known it was here, the only thing she could do was fix the problem, and fast.
"I said-" She'd suck in air, her form shuddering and shaking, twisting and reforming as she shrank to that of a familiar form.
Dear was not here, and yet here he seemed to stand now, holding the egg as the Pokemon stared the corrupted beast down.
"LEAVE!" The voice was distinctly Ruby's, but it suddenly carried the intensity of a Pokemon move. Disarming Voice echoed across the area, the force ripping off globs of corruption off the beast and the move briefly stunning it to give her some more time to ready herself.
Ruby as the Indeedee, stood her ground, a golden aura forming across her body. The Articuno egg held above her head in a protective manner, energy swiftly flooding into her form.
The corrupted beast finally recovered, and twisting its form in 270 degrees turn at what could possibly be considered a waist, it lunged once again.
"Never again!" Ruby shouted out loud, her heart pounding as further energy began to glow brighter and brighter-
And then a massive golden star fired forth, slamming into the corrupted beast with such force, it carried it far, far into the treeline. The move Last Resort. It left a dramatic claw marks into the ground, as if it had attempted to resist being launched back, but soon enough, it was gone, far from sight. Perhaps it was truly slain, launched too far it couldn't find her, or perhaps just sought an easier prey, but it was gone.
She stood there, waiting, and waiting, and as the minutes passed Ruby finally relaxed. It was gone. Hopefully, for good. With a strong exhale, her form suddenly shifted all over again. Skin stretching, bones growing, and horns retreating to reform herself just as she was.
Ruby had known power, the freedom to twist the Dreamworld to her own desires, but that, that was powerful. Is that what it felt like to actually be a Pokemon? She couldn't help but laugh right away, grinning widely as tears of joy dripped down her cheeks as she immediately hugged the egg close.
"F-fuck! I did that, I did that. Oh my god, I did that. Myself, me, all myself. I was scared, but I stood here, and I did it, I- Goodness, I have to tell Dear thanks, and he'll have no idea what I mean. But-"
CRACK
Ruby blinked, the loud sound immediately ripping her away from her rambles to look around. What the hell was that?
Crack.
Her eyes finally glimpsed down, a large crack had formed against the shell, splitting open and mist pouring forth at such an intense rate, it pooled down around her feet.
Ruby simply laughed.

Mist pooled from the egg, slowly drifting down into the shrine behind them to join the rest below. It was the first time Ruby was watching an egg hatch, and she was enraptured.
It was not the fact that it was simply that of a Legendary Pokemon, resembling that of her King, but the miracle of life alone that had her stunned. That something so beautiful, could come after such fear, as if spurred by her own growth, she'd never forget this moment.
Never in all of her life.
No matter how long she lived, or what world she was in.
So much mist poured out of the egg in her hands, that eventually she could no longer see the egg before her, but eventually a blinding light poured forth piercing the mist, bright blue eyes piercing through the fog.
And suddenly, the weight in her hands was gone.
The mist faded, and Ruby's eyes widened at the sight before her. Purple feathers, a long flowing tail, and a gaze that could make blood run cold. It did not flap its wings, simply floating within the air as if frozen in both time and space.
Eventually, their head tilted, and words spilled from their beak. An almost melodic tone, yet somehow filled with the confidence of someone who had lived a thousand lifetimes already.
"And who, are you?" They began, wings slowly stretched outwards, the white feathers slowly glowing. "I know who I am."
Ruby was in awe, a nervous smile on her face as she stretched out a hand. "I'm Ruby, I took care of your egg, and hatched you. I was blessed with DNA, and helped grant you life."
The Articuno paused, as if somehow that name rang a bell, in a way that it shouldn't. Perception of their existence as an egg was little, if any at all, and leaving the Dream World certainly would not help memories either. And yet, here they remained, trusting that name implicitly. It only seemed right. Something, somehow, encouraged them to believe them, despite how absurd it sounded.
"Then, who are you?" Ruby replied softly, smiling a bit wider. The Articuno slowly landed upon her arm, the talons gripping carefully. No claw would pierce skin, but her eyes pierced through Ruby's, judging if she was worthy.
And swiftly finding that kind smile of the human something special to behold.
"I am who I am. For I am my father's progeny, and my mother's beloved daughter. A Princess, unless I am mistaken."
