Patch 0.1 is here, and with it, the opening of Beta Island! This glorious, sunlit isle is just a hop, skip and a shipwreck away from the Asper mainland, and is full of lush, untextured jungle, buggy beaches, and Pokemon that run according to their programming.

She was bouncing back and forth in her seat at school, staring at the clock. It wasn't even noon yet, and she was already so eager to go home! She had already finished her math work for the moment, and Miss Daniels had told her she had the time to draw or read before recess, but she was too impatient to focus! She had a Raid to go home to today! It was a massive World Event day! Huge stuff apparently about some giant evil bat? She didn't know, and she didn't care, it was going to be a blast! She was going to take her car right down and have a great time! She was just staring at the clock, sighing heavily before looking around the room to find something else to distract her. Keightlyn was still working on their math work, she remembered the girl struggled multiplying by 8s, which she always found a little funny. Jason was doodling all over the back of his paper, probably drawing little murder death skulls again, because his older brother taught him how to do so. He had bragged about it for weeks! Sally had her nose in a book, but that wasn't anything new. She was always reading! Even on the bus! With another quiet sigh, her eyes glimpsed over at the small little plants along the windowsill. They had migrated from little cups to proper small pots by now, and the sight of her own little pot, the small plant blooming brighter and taller than all the others in her class. Seta was right. It really was waiting for the right cup. Other people began to finish their work, and recess was approaching soon, but all she could think about was heading home to play! She had to help her friends! She idly wondered if the spooky cat lady, or the not-mom would be there. They were always super funny and nice- "Alright class!" Miss Daniels suddenly spoke up, gathering the attention of all the students. "Time is up, we can continue our work when we come back inside after recess and lunch. Everyone, line up!" She stood, but for perhaps the first day, she wasn't rushing to the front of the line. She had other places to be in her mind than playing tag or shark attack today!

The wind carried her hair up and around as she swinged on the swingset. Something about being so high up in the air, really reminded her of being part of Thunderfall! Flying through the air in her own little UFO ship! Oh, how she wished she could have kept that vehicle too. It was so fun! Dwelling in her memories, Rose didn't even notice someone was approaching her until they shouted her name. "Roseanne!" The little girl shouted, eyes apparently sparking and grin a mile wide. "Do you have more stories for me?" "Yeah! Always!" She skidded to a stop, her feet dragging in the mulch beneath the swing. "Me and Winnie when on another trip to the Canopy! I planted a few more seeds, and I talked with a lot of his wormy friends!" Rose was always telling her friends about her time in UNOVR. Many of them didn't have the game, or weren't allowed to play it for very long, if even at all. Her grand stories seemed to always inspire such awe in wonder in the other kids that cared! "I wanna hear more car stories!" The girl continued to grin, clasping her hands together. "Can we-" "Excuse me Zofia, can I talk to Roseanne alone for a moment?" Miss Daniels suddenly approached, causing both of the little girls to blink in confusion. "Uh- Yeah. Is she in trouble?" Zofia asked innocently, looking almost upset for her friend. "No dear, her father just called, and we need to talk for a moment." Miss Daniels explained with a soft smile, although... Rose swore she could see a hint of something more behind those eyes. If she had never played UNOVR, never interacted and made friends with people way beyond her age, maybe she never would have noticed. But now, she did. Miss Daniels actually seemed sad. "It's okay, Zofia." Rose hopped up from her swing seat, stepping over towards Miss Daniels. "I'll tell you more stories later!" Satisfied with that answer for now, although only just, the little girl walked off, leaving the two alone. "Is everything okay?" Rose would then immediately follow up with, a slight tilt to her head. "Everything is fine, yes. Your dad will just be coming to pick you up from school in a few moments. Can you grab your things and wait with me in the office?" Miss Daniels gently took Rose's hand, who offered it happily, even though her face seemed to immediately fall. Dad never picked her up at school unless she got in trouble... She wasn't going to be playing in the big Raid tonight, was she? "... Yeah. I can do that."

Even still, she hugged her backpack as her legs swung back and forth. She didn't know what she did wrong! She had even cleaned up her room, even though nobody else ever went in her room! Across the office, Rose could hear Miss Daniels and the Guidance Counselor talking right around the corner. They did that a lot when she was around them, although she didn't really understand why. It definitely wasn't normal, she knew that much from her friends who actually got in trouble at school. "Roseanne?" Mrs. Walters, the Guidance Counselor suddenly spoke up, as Miss Daniels walked out of the room. "Can you come in here?" "Uhuh." Rose mumbled, standing up to her feet and continued carrying her backpack in her arms as she walked. It was, overall, a pretty boring backpack. A hand-me-down she got a few years ago, and used since she started school. Still, her cousins got her a few little charms to attach to the zippers. A little Sprigatito, and a Metapod. It made her happy. She missed them. Once in the counselor's room, she hopped up onto the small couch, looking up at her. She was an older woman, and Rose had heard a few rumors from the other students that she was dying any day now, but that seemed rude. No, Rose liked the way they smiled, it was so genuine. They had the cute wrinkles that always made her giggle. There was no smile on her face today, and that made Rose's heart sink. "Do you know why your father is picking you up today?" Miss Walters spoke softly, sitting down on a chair nearby to look Rose in the eye. "Umm... Because I did something bad?" Rose replied on instinct, and she could swear she heard the older woman's heart drop. "I didn't even get in trouble! I-" "No, no, hon. You're not in trouble, Daniels didn't lie." Walters immediately responded, shaking her head slowly. "Your mother is in the hospital." "... Oh." Rose replied blankly, not sure what to make of that as she looked up at her. She looked so lost, emotions in turmoil in her chest as she didn't have any remote clue how to respond to such a fact. "She was escorted there early today, apparently just after you left for school. The baby is already on its way-" "What?!?!" Rose immediately shouted out with wide eyes, her loud outburst breaking the otherwise quiet and hesitant mood Rose had been in. Stunned, she leaped up to her feet, dropping her backpack to the floor where it collapsed with a thud. Slightly unzipped, some of her colored pencils scattered out. Once again, her emotions were swiftly in turmoil, a swirling, broiling mess of chaos within her stomach that refused to settle down. "I know, I know, it must be so excit-" Miss Walters began with a very soft voice, clearly understanding the deeper implications that never went spoken, only for Rose to suddenly interrupt her. "Mom never told me she was having a baby! I- I-" Come to think of it... Rose didn't even remember the last time she had spent any time with her Mom. It must have been months since Mom even wanted to spend time with her and it was just for the family reunion. She had never even had the chance to see any belly like she knew pregnant women had, when Miss Crocker across the hall from her homeroom had her baby. Any excitement she might have had, was lost swiftly as she finally processed it all. "I- I-" She stuttered, struggling to speak. And suddenly, Rose started to cry.
